Politics › Twitter's Ceo Urges Bitcoin Donations To Fight Police Brutality In Nigeria by okeyglm(op): 10:52am On Oct 15, 2020
The CEO of Twitter and Square, Jack Dorsey, has urged his followers to donate Bitcoin to the #endSARS cause, which The CEO of Twitter and Square, Jack Dorsey, has urged his followers to donate Bitcoin to the #endSARS cause, which aims to end police brutality in Nigeria.
The crypto donation site he linked to is run by a group of Nigerian feminists fighting against the police’s Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) through protests, fundraising, and social media.
A series of demonstrations began in Nigeria on October 4 with thousands taking to the streets to protest against police brutality in Nigeria and call for the disbanding of SARS, with the #endSARS hashtag trending.
Various crypto startups like BuyCoins and Busha have also donated to the cause.
Ray Youssef, CEO of Peer-to-peer Bitcoin marketplace Paxful, which is popular across Africa, also embraced the #endSARS hashtag, accusing police of unfairly targeting young people for using cryptocurrency. He said the situation was a “real crisis of human rights happening now!”
Jack Dorsey has been a longstanding Bitcoin supporter. In the past, he has said Bitcoin is “probably the best” native currency of the internet due it being "consensus-driven" and "built by everyone."

Portblueholland:
I would like to share my experience about SA. First of all for those trying to live there on a visit VISA I will advice you DON'T do it!!! You will be stuck and stranded because it is almost IMPOSSIBLE for you to change your status when you are in the country, they will refer you to go back to your country of origin to get a residence permit. I have been to SA four times 3 times on visit visa and finally the last time on student visa. I didn't really want to study anyway my aim is to go to Europe since my wife is European and the fact that I have been denied several times by European embassies in Nigeria (Germany Sweden 2x and Greece).

The first time I went there my mind was blown away immediately! This country is one of the BEST place to ever live. I have been living in Europe for the past 4 years and SA especially Western Cape is better than many European countries especially Eastern European countries. You can get decent accommodation in a nice neighbourhood for around $500-$600 per month. I used to live around the city center and its a bus ride from my school CPUT. The roads are clean and neat (European standard) and there is a-lot of activities to do there. You can also actually work and earn a good salary provided you have the required experience and degree because most South African companies prefer to hire foreigners than South African citizens. South African citizens usually depend on the government for assistance and they do get paid monthly even when they are not working.

I met the man who connected me to my school here on Nairaland. He had links to the school as he had previously studied there and he helped me pay for my insurance and also secured my accommodation. My application was approved at the Abuja embassy after only 7 days. I included the basic requirements like bank statement insurance etc and the application was very straight forward. I was issued a 2 years visa and I only spent five months in SA before migrating to Europe. If you want to migrate elsewhere (America Canada Australia etc) and you are having issues getting a visa or permit in Nigeria, then SA is your best route. They don't travel much and the embassies over there do not get work overload or cases of visa fraud.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in SA and we visited twice since we moved here. Amazing country and amazing people. I am actually planning to either migrate back there or Dubai next year once I am through with my citizenship application. . Peace!
if I marry south African citizen with my visit visa . I won't be issued permit , will they ask me to go back

it's you that has no business of being poor. This is the price of limestone on the international market. If you live in Enugu and think something should be done about mining limestone go do it.

You can easily take a pick axe and hammer remove a ton and put it for sale on Alibaba, it will change your life and you're here talking about the government. You're the lazy one.

If you don't want to solve 'the problem' stop talking about it. If you want it solved go solve it, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. 90% of the 'government should __________' in this form are all people giving the government their business ideas. ridiculous.
same reason we ain't moving forward. why selling to Chinese when you can convert it to value chain. how will the state develop when you sell all ur crude resources to oversea. those Chinese will refine it and sell millions of naira. Nigeria will sell crude oil for 40 dollars and buy the refined for 200 dollars. this is lazy mentality.

Ibeto doesn't mine? Dangote doesn't mine? Isn't Shell and Agip mining? When Nigerians learn at add limestone to their cement they will build roads that last 100 years. Until then we will continue making excuses as to why the government isn't adopting our business plans.
Nigeria governors are very lazy , including my state Governor. Enugu state has no business of being poor if make use of what is available. coal only is the cheapest source of electricity. we can be power house of this country with clusters of power generating firms . let's not talk about road construction with coal ashes and fertilisers production.

mining limestone, ironstone and co aren't government projects. They're business ideas. If the ones complaining these industries 'are dead' will go into actually collecting these free stones and selling them for their market value, their lives would change.
oga, federal government has given state that power to mine there mineral resources. do you know the value chain of coal. if ondo state can do it . Enugu state can also do the same.

The current condition of Enugu airport is a sorry sight and not befitting a state like Enugu which is over 100yrs, when other states created same time with it like Kano, Kaduna, Rivers, etc, all have befitting functional international airports.

Why can't the present government in Enugu do something to at least give Enugu state a befitting airport, since it has become clear that the airport is more or less a state airport.

What has Enugu state done in areas of bringing investments and industrialisation to the state? The state cannot continue to be a civil servants state, when other states created same time with it have all become major economic power houses. What will be the situation of Enugu state when this country is restructured economically?

Enugu state should start preparing for the post oil derivation economy, because it won't be long before this country is restructured and every state will have to depend on what it can produce to survive, either natural resources, industrialisation etc.

Dalu nu
dalu nna, Enugu State has most docile governors in recent time. coal is in comatose, ironstone dead, limestone same too. in wonder those people clamouring for restoration of Biafra do they think how will the state survive without oil.
presently the governor of ondo state has revitalised bitumen deposits across the state. they even partnered with private sector for asphalt development . now coming to Enugu , all the inustries created by okpala are all dead. we need serious deliverance in Enugu State.

This is wrong. Nigeria government during the time of obasanjo govt and yaradua govt, acquired vast nautical miles from world governing bodies of ocean marine. please get your information. Through that a lot of crude oil where discovered. nevertheless, in case of break up, all those resources away from coastal line will be shares among the nations that consists former Nigeria.

Why would you call such great initiative a misplaced priority?! Really?? Firstly, I have never been a fan of Ugwuanyi because I believe he is a mediocre just like Ikpeazu of Abia state. However, this is a noble concept from him. The world is now being propelled digitally and is where the money is now with potentials for job creation.

Cheap and accessible internet connection can lead to a digital revolution in Enugu. Haven't you heard of apps that were developed by young people only to be sold for millions of dollars? What about tech startups? Freelancers? Even down to students conducting research. The potentials are limitless!

Talking about education, enrollment figures in all SE states except maybe Ebonyi, is relatively very high, and government schools from primary to secondary is free the last time I checked.

You can tell him to also work on roads, pipe borne water etc. but please don't condemning such initiative because it's indeed a great idea.
coal city WiFi has been in existence during the sullivan time. this is not notable feat by ugwuani. ugwuanyi is still a monumental failure in governance.
