Apologies for my sabbatical leave. May God give me the grace to continue blogging. *sigh* Anyway you guessed right. I have been at Shiloh along with other single women approaching menopause. LoL. My ex boyfriends warned me of this day but I never took them serious. Now look at me today below.....LoL Anyway, I also honoured another invitation to a friend’s church yesterday where prayers were specifically held for singles. Preacher said before 2014 runs out, we will meet our spouses. Guess whose amen was the loudest? To top it all, the preacher also told those of us who were job hunting to come to the altar and receive grace for a 360 turn of events. Guess who was the Usain Bolt amongst us? Service ended. I felt renewed as I stood outside the church, patiently waiting for a vehicle to flag down. About three commercial buses passed by but they all refused to let me in when I showed them a N1000 note which was the only denomination I had. Finally, an empty registered cab stops. The driver agreed to give me a lift at no cost when I presented the N100 note I had. “How church been dey?” He asked. “Fine.” “So wetin be your name?” *Sigh* Nothing I dread most than cab drivers and okada riders that find it difficult to just shut up and drive. But I had act polite to show my gratitude for his free ride. Good thing I was going to get rid of him fast as there was no traffic. I estimated a ten minutes drive at most. “I’m Krajak.” I said. That was the first name that came to my mind when I sighted an empty packet of krajak biscuit. You can’t blame me, he had no business knowing my real name. “Krajak? Which kind name be dat? You be Edo abi Calabar?” “Calabar name” “You fine well well. I go like make we become friends.” “Thanks.” “The former girl wey been dey sell for my joint na calabar girl sef. As she don go school, I dey find person to replace am. U fit?” “I’m not looking for a job. I school too.” I lied. “Ehennnn okay oh.” he quipped disappointedly. When we got to the nearest bus stop at my house, he gripped my palm and demanded for my phone number. “But I don’t know you. I don’t give out my number like that.” I said to him. “Na why I dey ask for your number so I go know you. I wan make we become close friends. You sef no even ask me my name.” I pretended not to hear him. As I made to alight from the vehicle, he pulled me back and asked, “Krajak wey my N150?” in a tone completely eroded of the mannerism he depicted earlier. My surprise at the new turn of events had me speaking pidgin this time. “But you talk sey you go carry me for free.” . “Oh, so you don enjoy my motor but to give me your GSM dey hard you.” I took out the N1000 and flung it at him. He ransacked his pockets for change. When he couldn’t come up with my balance, he went out of the car, bought N150 worth of groundnuts from a roadside hawker and shoved my balance into my palm. “Yeye girl! You think say na only you sabi osho free. Fine you no even fine.” So much for the miracle job and husband I was hesspecting this week.

Another man was stoned to death for adultery in Iraq New photos have emerged on social media showing Islamic State fighters carrying out horrific executions in accordance of their radical interpretation of Sharia law. The extremist group have released photos showing the stoning to death of a couple who were accused of committing adultery, as well as the beheading of four men for blasphemy in Syria. The stoning happened in the small Syrian town of Manbij, in the province of Aleppo. It is believed to be the ninth time that Islamic State has documented a stoning and posted the photographs online. According to the statement which accompanied the photos, a married man and a married woman were found guilty of committing adultery and were punished by stoning, a punishment known as the "Hadd of Zina". The photos show a huge crowd, consisting almost entirely of men and children, watching the shocking event from the slopes of a roadside. Masked fighters, carrying their weapons can be seen among the hordes of people. Masked fighters, carrying their weapons can be seen among the hordes of people. The photos come just days after a man was stoned to death for adultery in the Islamic State held province of al-Furat in Iraq. Photos show a man with his hands tied behind his back and a white blindfold over his eyes. He is seen kneeling in a large trench, dug out from the rocky earth. Another photo shows how a crowd of locals gathered to watch the horrific event. Several Islamic State soldiers in military fatigues are shown holding large rocks in their hands. They are photographed hurling rocks at the man in the trench until he is dead. As well as the stoning of adulterers, Islamic State have regularly beheaded anyone who insults Islam. Images have been circulating since yesterday, showing the beheading of four men, accused of committing blasphemy. The beheading were carried out in a small village in the Syrian province of Images circulating since yesterday show the beheading of four men accused of blasphemy. The killings were carried out in a small village in the Syrian province of Homs. The photos show a crowd of men and young boys watching the event at an open paved square. An Islamic State fighter announces the crimes of the victims before the executions are carried out. All four of the men are shown with their hands tied behind their back and a chequered scarf covering their eyes. The executioner, wearing all black and with his face covered by a hood, can be seen in the photograph, swinging a large cleaver-like blade. The final photos, showing the beheaded bodies lying on the ground, are too graphic to be published. Alongside the photos, a statement reads: "Those who annoy Allah and His Messenger, Allah has cursed them in this world and the Hereafter, and has prepared for them a humiliating punishment."

Party open to other ideas By Olawale Olaleye As negotiations and intrigues continue in the effort to pick the running mate for the presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress, General Muhammadu Buhari, it has emerged that the long-speculated vice presidential ambition of former Lagos State Governor Bola Tinubu is still on the cards. THISDAY has learnt at the weekend that Tinubu, to whom Buhari may have conceded the privilege to recommend his running mate, has in addition to himself also presented for consideration former Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, and Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, with a caveat that they are "open to other ideas and candidates" from the party in their efforts to "forge a winning ticket for the presidential elections", ahead of Thursday's deadline for submission of nominations to the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC). Buhari emerged candidate of APC on Thursday after defeating Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha, and newspaper publisher Sam Nda-Isaiah at the presidential primary held in Lagos. Series of meetings have been held by leaders of the party since Thursday to try to find a suitable running mate for the former Head of State. Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola, his Rivers and Edo states counterparts, Rotimi Amaechi and Adams Oshiomhole, respectively, and Osinbajo had, reportedly, been pencilled in for the vice presidential post. But the list has continued to be pruned and adjusted based on several factors, including geopolitical and religious configurations. But the Tinubu shortlist of Tinubu, Osinbajo and Oshiomhole is expected before the party leadership today. Tinubu had always nursed the ambition of becoming a running mate to Buhari, but the idea of presenting a Muslim/Muslim ticket, in a country where the religious tensions have been made worse by the Boko Haram insurgency, continues to be a divisive topic had made that pairing a difficult one for APC. According to Vice President Atiku Abubakar, in an interview with THISDAY, the National Executive Committee of party appeared to have resolved not to allow the Muslim/Muslim combination for the presidential elections before last Thursday’s primary election. But the reappearance of the issue has surprised many APC stakeholders. Atiku confirming the disquiet in the party over the reappearance of the religious debate said, “In fact, the party passed a resolution at the National Working Committee that there would not be a Muslim/Muslim ticket. But to announce it, somebody is afraid to announce it. It is there on record. I don’t know. The NWC of the party passed a resolution that there would not be a Muslim/Muslim ticket. So, go and announce it.” Tinubu's supporters in the party leadership are alleged to have ensured that the NWC’s decision on a Muslim/Muslim ticket was kept under wraps. Now that Tinubu has rekindled his interest in the office, it has become difficult for the APC leadership to pick a vice presidential candidate outside of himself. Moreover, the party feels somewhat indebted to Tinubu due to his role in the emergence of Buhari as the APC presidential candidate. The APC national leader is said to have been instrumental to the assembling of the bloc votes from the South-west and other geopolitical zones that aided Buhari at the primary. In fact, Tinubu is said to be particularly against Amaechi’s nomination for the vice presidential position because the governor was the first party man that had confronted him at a meeting to shelve the idea of a Muslim/Muslim ticket because it would hurt the party. Amaechi had insisted that the party should pick a running mate from among Christians in the South to ensure geographical and religious balance. But there are other dimensions to the difficulty trailing the attempt to choose a running mate for Buhari. THISDAY learnt that the Progressive Governors Forum, an association of APC governors, wants one of its own as running mate. And members of the New Peoples Democratic Party, the group that had staged a walkout from the mini convention of Peoples Democratic Party on August 31 last year to form a new party, are also seeking to be given a real stake in APC by being considered for the position of vice president. The APC governors are arguing that they were the ones that actually mobilised the funds and delegates that made Buhari’s candidacy possible and deserve to be compensated. New PDP members also seek compensation for the sacrifice they made to swell the ranks of the opposition party. One of the arrowheads of the New PDP demand is Senator Bukola Saraki, who is believed to be eyeing the post of senate president next year, should APC win majority of seats in the upper chamber. APC has until December 18 to submit its vice presidential candidate for next year’s election to the Independent National Electoral Commission. There are fears the party may not meet the deadline if the current controversy lingers. A top APC source told THISDAY, “It is still very contentious ... But that is not a problem because we might just put in a dummy candidate and still explore the chances of a peaceful resolution of the matter within the 30 days we have for substitution.” Another national officer said, “The reason this has become so contentious is because it is clear to every member of the APC that the chances of seizing power next year is very likely. In fact, it is a 60/40 ratio in favour of the APC, so, everyone now sees an opening to make history, especially since Buhari who becomes 72 years of age in three days on Wednesday 17th December, is seen by many as a one-term president. So whoever is his running mate stands a chance of becoming president should the APC win the next elections." http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/tinubu-Osinbajo-oshiomhole-make-vp-shortlist/196668/ |
