A traditional ruler in Ise, Ibeju Lekki area of Lagos State, Taibu Ogunbanjo, has crushed his wife to death with his jeep. Ogunbanjo is currently in police detention.

The baale runs a block-moulding factory at Folu, a community in Ibeju Lekki.

According to reporter Taibu and his wife, Rotimi Ogunbanjo, got married three years ago, but the marriage had been fraught with misunderstanding and fights.

The couple reportedly had a disagreement on Thursday, December 7, 2017, after which Rotimi was said to have gone to the Baale’s factory and damaged some blocks on the premises.

Ogunbanjo was said to have entered his Toyota Highlander, and was driving out of the premises in anger when he knocked down his wife.

A community leader, Akinsipe told the newspaper that the wife died on the spot, adding that the corpse had been deposited at the Epe General Hospital.

He said, “He (Taibu) is the baale of the community. He and his wife had been having issues since they got married. I did not know what actually happened between them on that day, but I learnt that they had a disagreement in the morning.

Palestinians protest over Donald Trump’s Jerusalem announcement. Palestinians switched off Christmas lights at Jesus’ traditional birthplace in Bethlehem on Wednesday night in protest at U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

A Christmas tree adorned with lights outside Bethlehem’s Church of the Nativity, where Christians believe Jesus was born, and another in Ramallah, next to the burial site of former Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, were plunged into darkness.

“The Christmas tree was switched off on the order of the mayor today in protest at Trump’s decision,” said Fady Ghattas, Bethlehem’s municipal media officer.

He said it was unclear whether the illuminations would be turned on again before the main Christmas festivities.

In a speech in Washington, Trump said he had decided to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and move the U.S. embassy to the city.

Lagos youths renounce cultism celebrate with hemp smoking. There was a mild drama at Imota, Lagos State, on Wednesday, as some youths smoked a substance suspected to be Indian hemp to celebrate their cultism renunciation

The act was observed by our correspondent shortly after the state Acting Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, addressed the press in company with the two former leaders of the Eye and Aiye confraternities.

The renunciation was held at the palace of Ranodu of Imota, Oba Ajibade Bakare-Agoro, and was presided over by Imohimi, who displayed guns, cutlasses and axes recovered from the residents.

The youths moved around the community, displaying banners with the inscriptions, ‘Say no to crime, drug abuse and cultism’ and ‘Say no to crime, rape, stealing and cultism.’

The two groups also chanted their respective fraternal songs and exchanged occult pleasantries after the renunciation.

Earlier, while speaking to journalists, Imohimi said the renunciation was the outcome of the state police command’s emphasis on community policing.

He recalled that a similar event was held at Ijede, Ikorodu recently, where about 500 persons renounced cultism, urging other communities in the state to follow suit.

The CP said, “Over 120 youths have voluntarily renounced cultism and handed over their weapons to the police. The significant thing about this process is not the number of those renouncing cultism or the quantity of arms they tendered.........

ASUU faults Governor Yahaya Bello over 135 sacked Kogi State University lecturers. The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Abuja zone. Has criticised Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State for allegedly refusing to reinstate the 135 sacked lecturers of the Kogi State University.

The ASUU Abuja Zonal Coordinator, Dr Theophilus Lagi, who addressed news men on Monday at the University of Abuja, said. The state government must obey a court judgment ordering the reinstatement of the lecturers.

Lagi said the failure to do such was a violation of the rule of law.

The union also criticised the state government for failing to pay the workers’ salaries despite. “The huge monthly revenue of N8bn accruing to the state.”

The state government had on August 14 sacked the striking lecturers for their refusal to return to work.

The sacking followed the proscription of the ASUU KSU chapter by the governor after the institution resumed from a seven-month strike. The lecturers had allegedly refused to resume work after the strike........

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and publicity, Garba Shehu, revealed this in a statement issued on Sunday.

This is just as he renewed Buhari’s commitment to ensure that all the Chibok girls still held hostage by the Boko Haram terrorists are returned to their parents safely.

“In line with, the President has approved payment of the sum of N164,763,759 (one hundred and sixty four million, seven hundred and sixty-three naira) for the second semester school fees of the 106 Chibok girls at the American University of Nigeria, AUN in Yola,” the statement read........
