THE All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has described the comments credited to the senator representing Oyo South senatorial district, Senator Olufemi Lanlehin, against the party-led government as a failed attempt to justify what it called his “less than noble” action of defecting from the party.

The party, in a statement issued in Ibadan, on Thursday, by its state chairman, Chief Akin Oke, said Lanlehin was behaving true to type by his recent action of dumping the APC for Accord Party, a move, it said, would continue to haunt him for as long as he remained in politics.

APC’s statement was a reaction to a media report quoting Lanlehin to have said that the party lacked ideology.

“Senator Lanlehin has again exhibited his penchant for speaking with both sides of his mouth. At what point did he discover the APC as lacking in ideology when he had claimed he was never a member of the party in the first instance?

“If the senator, who has never spent a single term with any political party since he started his political career, now thinks he can worm himself into the people’s heart and gain political recognition by attacking the APC and Governor Abiola Ajimobi in the media after committing the political suicide of leaving the APC, then he should be told in plain language that he is merely deceiving himself.

Meanwhile, the vice chairman, Senate Committee on National Planning, Economic Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Senator Olufemi Lanlehin, has disowned the caption and part of a statement credited to him in a story published by a national daily on Thursday.

He was quoted as describing the APC as a party lacking in ideology.

Lanlehin, in a statement he personally issued and made available to journalists on Thursday, said he was embarrassed by the story, which he described as merely sensational.

“Therefore, I wish to state categorically that I granted The Punch correspondent a brief interview at Senator Rashidi Ladoja’s Ibadan home last Sunday where he came to cover the presentation of two new buses I made to the party - Accord. But in the course of the said interview, I never spoke against the APC as a party, let alone describing it as lacking in ideology.

“To set the record straight, I still have quite a large number of friends in the APC till today despite the fact that I declined to be part of it as expected of every member of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and we remain good friends till tomorrow. More so, I am an individual who does not fan ember of enmity as I believe in playing politics with decency and decorum.

Xfactoria: Spot on! Sometimes I wonder why people forget so easily the kind of person that man is.

PDP may not be a good party, but the ACN is surely not better. ACN leader; Tinubu is only a pretender. Even the party itself is comprised of questionable, disgruntled and out-of-favour politicians from the PDP like Tom Ikimi, Ibikunle Amosu etc. The recent congress of the ACN in Lagos ended in a row because some members protested Tinubu's alleged imposition of candidates on the party. Tinubu as a person does not fancy primary elections simply because he never emerged as a candidate through one. In 1999, Funsho Williams defeated him in the AD guber primaries but the Adesanyas of this world foisted him on the party as a compensation for his alleged support for NADECO with proceeds of his illicit drug trades. Again, in 2003, he used the power of incubency to make sure the party disqualified all opposing candidates for him to emerge unopposed as the guber candidate. He later out-rigged Funsho Williams in the general elections. In 2007, he muscled out all opposing candidates to his protege - Fashola and made sure he emerged as the sole candidate of the party in a kangaroo primary.

Tinubu has never believed in internal democracy within a party; the same mistake the AD made in 2003 and lost out big time to the PDP (never mind the PDP rigged, because they - the AD/ACN also rigged). The PDP victory in Ikorodu might just be signalling the imminent implosion of the ACN in Lagos because a good number of their members are seriously aggrieved by Tinubu's dictatorship and the lack of fair play in choosing candidates for the party.

What is obvious in all these is that all the political parties are the same except for a few like the late Gani's NCP who are not bouyant enough to make any impact. The general trend is that when they are getting large, they prove unable to manage their big size because their undemocratic principles like the imposition of candidates, the idea of consensus candidates without primaries are not sustainable. The consequence is the the shameful cross-carpetting that we witness every now and then.

ACN's governance of Lagos State is very fragile. They need to do more in the interiors. We know that the ACN has a budget for buying the press and that is why many of the respected journalists and newspapers do not report the shameful state of bad roads in the remote part of the state.

Gbawe: Not neccessarily . The ACN can easily avoid becoming like the PDP if the Party adheres to a policy of giving good guys, achievers and progressives a fair chance in a genuinely democratic environment. It is that simple . PDP , under OBJ , did the opposite i.e good guys and achievers were bullied out of the way for criminals and mediocre individuals.

Lets not forget that OBJ changed the thinking and modus Operandi of the PDP for the worse to the extent that some of the Parties founding fathers have now stated that the PDP is doomed as long as OBJ remains influential within the Party . Actions such as the OBJ-led impeachment of Peter Obi and the subsequent bullying of everyone out of the way callously and unfairly to make OBJ's Personal assistant (Andy Ubah) Governor of Anambra State shows that the PDP's current identity was created by the inactions of those who let OBJ define the Party in his own dark and "do-or-die" image. This is why the drive towards genuine democracy is important . Genuine democracies tend to self-correct themselves with good buffers of checks and balances . If the ACN keeps promoting internal democracy I don't see how they can ever become as bad as the PDP.

Why are u making this a big news? Every Lagosian that has been monitoring d political map of Lagos state shud know that this area is one of the few strongholds PDP has tenaciously held on to since 1999.

ACN is too arrogant, complacence, loud-mouthed, and the owner of the party-Tinubu, too dictatorial. Can you belief that up till now, the party doesn't have gov candidates, and for other positions. The dummies including Fashola, are all waiting for Baba Tinubu to pronounce them as candidates.

This is my analysis on Jimi Agbaje.

Jimi in PDP or APC as "Gubernatorial candidate" (emphasizes on " as Gubernatorial candidate"wink will spell doom for both parties. If he goes to PDP and he is chosen as a candidate, people will decamp atomatically, only Bode George will be left. I mean, how can they be working just so one man will come and eat all their sweat. As the APC, the same. People like Senator GOS, Hamzat, Banire etc will leave.

Jimi needs to work from the ground up and not just sit somewhere for people to cook and when food is ready, gbam, he'll simply come and eat.

Also,
Grassroot still see Jimi and Fashola as "same ni". In the sense that all these "fine English" and certificates means he will be like Fashola if given the chance. Jimi in PDP will be Great for both Jimi and PDP. The only way for Jimi is to meet ALL the stakeholders in PDP and both should reach a compromise.

barcanista: Mr man, I know the personalities and Characters of both men. Jimi is ego-centric like George. Jimi left AC because he doesn't see himself as a "boy" to anybody. George want his followers to be "loyal" 2 him. In 2007, George preferred "Hilda Williams" to Koro and Ogunlewe. In 2011, George's boys preferred an unpopular Ade Dosunmu. Someone of Jimi's Character and integrity will most likely be relunctant to be "loyal" to George. The problem of Lagos PDP is not Tinubu nor APC, it is always internal with George at the center.

UchihaMadara: Wow, I wasn't aware that the seized bikes were sold, that's not cool. Even if they sold them because of some law, it would be nice if the money was returned to them.
With that said though, I still believe they should campaign with futuristic ideas, as opposed to bringing back bikes.
They can extend the BRT scheme, have legitimate bus stops that show the routes of the BRT busses based on their numbers, they could even take that a step further by providing estimated arrival times.
Also the PDP should at least try to convince us that they can progress with the Lagos rail faster than the APC.
Regardless of Faholas flaws, I have always viewed the BRT scheme and Light rail system as commendable though not thorough enough.

Where do you think ten of thousands of seized okadas go to? Fashola's backyard? LOL. Its RE-SOLD to generate money. Where this money goes to, I don't know. Whether to Tinubu or Fashola or Lastma.

PDP knows they have to perform when they are in. Lagos state citizens are too enlightened for any nonsense. They must OUT-PERFORM Fashola to remain in Government after 2019. THEY MUST and THEY KNOW!!! Any thing short of that and Tinubu continues to rule.

I have no problem if PDP says they want to do away with the toll on Ozumba, but with regards to bringing bikes back though, I believe they can proffer better, more elegant solutions.
I wish for us to be competing, so to speak, with the likes of U.S, U.K, U.A.E, Italy, Canda.... not really India.

Each country has its own innovative solution that works best with its given population density. Okadas, yes, they are not elegant but hey, it reduces unemployment. Do you know how it feels to be done with University so as to ride okada and make ends meet? Yet, one man in Ikeja will just send his boys to seize them, just to resale them in neighboring states. YES, the seized okadas are re-sold to citizens of Ogun state and Oyo state. We masses are no fools.

I believe PDP has a good and balanced policy concerning mass transportation. I will be attentive when they spell out their manifesto.

But the truth is any PDP candidate except Obanikoro will and MUST win Lagos from Tinu-ole.

pro01: OK. Let us assume, for one moment, that Jimi Agbaje is out of the question. Who should the PDP field as its candidate? Obanikoro? I can't readily think of any other prominent prospect at this point. I suspect Ganiyu Solomon would decamp from the APC at some point, but I doubt the Lagos PDP would be willing to give him the party's ticket.

Not that it matters though. . .ANY PDP candidate would win the election by a landslide. The Lagos masses are simply fed up with the elitist Fashola and everything he represents (including his party).

Forget Obanikoro. God Forbid. If they pick Obanikoro, they have just handed Tinu-ole another 8 years. There is nothing wrong with Dr Ade Dosunmu. He is from Isale Eko, well educated but too soft spoken, he needs to voice up. But Jimi needs to come to PDP, there is something for him there. They need someone like him in their camp.
