The World Health Organization has warned the public to cultivate the use of condoms during sex as it's becoming dangerous for those who take part in MouthAction.
It warns that if someone contracts gonorrhea through MouthAction, it's now much harder to treat, and in some cases impossible.
Experts say the situation was “fairly grim” with few new drugs on the horizon as the sexually transmitted infection is rapidly developing resistance to antibiotics.
According to WHO, about 78 million people pick up the STI each year risking infertility, while analysed data from 77 countries have shown gonorrhea's resistance to antibiotics was widespread
.
Dr. Teodora Wi, from the WHO, said there had even been three cases – in Japan, France, and Spain – where the infection was completely untreatable.
She said: “Gonorrhea is a very smart bug, every time you introduce a new class of antibiotics to treat gonorrhea, the bug becomes resistant.”
Worryingly, the vast majority of gonorrhea infections are in poor countries where resistance is harder to detect. “These cases may just be the tip of the iceberg,” she added.
According to her, Gonorrhea can infect the genitals, rectum, and throat, but it is the last that is most concerning health officials.
Dr. Wi said antibiotics could lead to bacteria in the back of the throat, including relatives of gonorrhea, developing resistance.
She said: “When you use antibiotics to treat infections like a normal sore throat, this mixes with the Neisseria species in your throat and this results in resistance.” Adding that 'In the US, resistance [to an antibiotic] came from men having sex with men because of pharyngeal infection.
The Organization also warned that thrusting gonorrhea bacteria into this environment through MouthAction can lead to super-gonorrhea if there is a decline in condom use.
They are now calling on countries to monitor the spread of resistant gonorrhea and to invest in new drugs.
In the report, Dr. Manica Balasegaram, from the Global Antibiotic Research and Development Partnership, said: “The situation is fairly grim. “There are only three drug candidates in the entire drug [development] pipeline and no guarantee any will make it out.”
But ultimately, the WHO said vaccines would be needed to stop gonorrhea.
Reacting to the report, Prof Richard Stabler, from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, said:

“Ever since the introduction of penicillin, hailed as a reliable and quick cure, gonorrhea has developed resistance to all therapeutic antibiotics.

“In the past 15 years, therapy has had to change three times following increasing rates of resistance worldwide.

“We are now at a point where we are using the drugs of last resort, but there are worrying signs of treatment failure due to resistant strains has been documented.”

Australian senator breastfeeds baby while moving a motion in Parliament (photos)

An Australian MP addressed Parliament while breastfeeding her baby. It will be the first time ever such will happen in Australia. Larissa Waters, a Greens Party member from Queensland, Australia, stood to address the chamber, with her 14-week-old daughter, Alia Joy, latched onto her breast, while the mother spoke about black lung disease, a condition affecting coal miners.



This will not be the first time the MP is taking her baby with her to Parliament neither will it be the first time she's breastfed the infant in Parliament. Earlier on in May 2017, she had tweeted a photo of her breastfeeding her daughter in Australia's Parliament and since then, she regularly takes the child with her to the Australia's Senate, or Upper House. However, it is the first time Waters has ever breastfed while moving a motion in Parliament with all eyes on her.


The MP's decision to breastfeed while moving the motion was met with smiles from her colleagues. Soon after, she shared the photo on Twitter and wrote:

There was, however, someone who did not agree with her and the person sent her a message which Larissa shared on her Twitter timeline.

A North Carolina charter school Math teacher, Erin McAuliffe, 25, was arrested last Thursday for allegedly having sex with three male students: two 17-year-olds and a 16-year-old. The Rocky Mount Preparatory teacher was charged with "three counts of sexual activity with a student and one count of indecent liberties with a minor".
Police officially launched an investigation into McAuliffe on May 5, when school officials reported alleged misconduct. The day before the report from officials, McAuliffe was fired from the charter school over the suspicions.
After detectives conducted numerous interviews with both students and staff members, a warrant for the teacher's arrest was issued, and she was arrested shortly thereafter.

It was then determined by police that McAuliffe's alleged sexual interactions with the three boys took place off school property.
The Rocky Mount Prep job was the first time McAuliffe worked as a teacher full-time, according to her Linkedin profile.
According to her resume, at Rocky Mount, McAuliffe taught math III, advanced functions and pre-calculus. She also offered “after-school tutoring to help struggling students improve their critical thinking and problem-solving skills.”
McAuliffe also worked to “develop alternate enrichment activities and modifications in student programs to increase student understanding.”
The school said Friday she was removed from the school on May 4 and fired on May 8, after school administrators learned about the accusations against her and reported them to police.

“We have been fully cooperative with local law enforcement during the course of their handling of this matter,” a statement from the school to WITN-TV said.

Her sister is also a teacher at Rocky Mount Prep.

McAuliffe is being held at Carteret County Jail on a $20,000 bond; her first court appearance was yesterday, June 12.

McAuliffe was hired at the prep school in August of 2016 and sacked in May 2017.
