Politics / Dear Nigerian Youths by oladapoa1(m): 1:05pm On Dec 19, 2016
Dear Nigerian Youth who wants to die for Nigerian politicians especially that youth who will fight everyone when his political hero is criticized, come closer. I have a message for you.

Inside this private jet, you will see the billionaire son Ahmed Indimi of billionaire Mohammed Indimi (he is the one in front to the right looking at the camera) who just married Zahra, Buhari's daughter, to his left, also in front, is his brother, Maikanti, who is married to Aisha Dangote and behind them in light blue is Babagana Sherrif, he is the brother of former Borno governor Ali Modu Sheriff and he is married to president Buhari's daughter, Halima, the one who just finished from law school.

Take a second look at your destiny as the children of the politicians have already arranged their own destinies. In this photo, you will see people from PDP and APC background from different tribes from different states but they are all united because the elite is all one big family. They do not care about any religious, political, tribal or ethnic difference, the only thing they care about is whatever agenda that will secure their future & guarantee their own prosperity & of their generations unborn.

So before you die for your APC or PDP hero, or before you fight the entire community because of any of the artificial divisions created by the intelligent humans to control and subjugate others, rethink your life. Nobody send you o...-.

Please my sister meet up with the cut off point for psychology. But while going through her subject combinations in utme. I realised that she didn't do biology. Reading through again, some said she wouldn't have been scored if she had the wrong combination in utme. Advise. Thanks

Education / Increasing Literacy: It Goes Beyond Free Meals by oladapoa1(m): 11:48am On Mar 23, 2016
UNESCO describes literacy as a fundamental human right and the foundation for lifelong learning. It also ascribed it as being paramount to social and human development in its ability to transform lives.

It wasn’t surprising when Kaduna States commissioner for education, science and technology, Dr. Shehu Adamu disclosed to news men that “pupils had developed habit of leaving school immediately after meal under the guise of going to drink water.” My conclusion towards this report was, “what on earth does the commissioner expects.”

Increasing literacy is actually beyond opting for free meals. The primacies should have been more intense, at least these suggested questions should have been addressed: Do we have the adequate infrastructure and facilities to encourage learning? Are the teachers motivated? And do we have plans for after school.

A keen look into these questions will aid achieve the goals of literacy. You can imagine giving out free meals in dilapidated classrooms. Another case of attracting pupils with free meals to schools where teachers are yet to be paid their salaries – what a miss.

The first question posed will go a long way to encourage learning. We will all agree with me that all our citadels of learning (from the primary to the university level) are in a state of mockery. There have been cases whereby, students are mandated to buy chalks, broom, dusters and yet government taught it wise to have chosen free meals as its priority. Even in the tertiary institutions, most especially the science based courses, materials to carryout researches are not readily available, and in some cases students opt for stores in advance countries to have access to these materials. Enough cases of pupils eating the free meals in classes without chairs or under the tree have also been reported.

It has also been reported that the large span of land that has been allocated to schools are now been sold to raise residential buildings, neglecting the fact that a school constitute not just classrooms, but also farm lands and recreational atmosphere. Government should consider setting up policies that will reshape the educational system.

Are the teachers motivated? No, I choose. Motivation of teachers in this contexts goes beyond their basic salaries it includes allowances such as medical, house, cars etc. We know of some states where teachers’ salaries are yet to be paid for months and yet pupils’ feeding still goes on. We found ourselves in a society where teachers are left to languish in poverty and government policies don’t extends its roots to this nation builders. Government should incorporate all these allowances into their schemes.

In addition, free seminars and workshops should be put in place to update the teachers. The type of teaching method adopted globally now is pedagogy; they should be exposed to this. Furthermore, teachers are not motivated when they realize that their research ends up on the shelf. Government should make use of the researches and promote its quality. Our researchers make finding nowadays just for promotion and not to solve the imminent problem. They can’t be blamed, at least the cobwebs on their previous finding is not a good story to tell.

After school? This question in its diverse construction among the Nigerian youths, government has taken with a hand of flippancy. Who wants to commit years to learning when you see political thugs better than Mr. B who holds three master degrees? Apart from this, our society has been so frustrating, that you find a situation where a trained medical doctor opts for a banking sector, a botanist opts for a construction company only to mention but a few, just because the government refuses to set its priorities right. Employment now carries this slogan “you have to know somebody that knows somebody somewhere”. All this have complicated our society, branding it more illiterate just because our spanners are in the hands of the geographers while our accounts are being managed by the biochemists.

On this note I strongly conform to the resolution of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) urging the federal government to declare a state of emergency in the educational sector, relinquishing the free meals and taking up imminent problems hindering literacy.

Education / Fg To Make French Nation's Second Official Language by oladapoa1(m): 8:33am On Feb 01, 2016
Students from primary to tertiary institutions will henceforth learn French language compulsorily, the federal government said at the weekend.

It said it will embark on intensive training of more French teachers in its bid to make it the nation’s second official language.

The Minister of State for Education, Prof Anthony Anwukah, stated these in Abuja yesterday when the French Ambassador to Nigeria, Denys Gaver, paid him a courtesy call.

Anwukah said: “French language is a matter of necessity. We have to because we have Cameroon, Niger, Chad, Benin Republic, Togo Guinea, and Ivory Coast surrounding us and so there is need for us to get more Nigerians to become proficient in French language.

“This is good for the continent; it is good for us as a nation. It is good for our brothers at the borders because it will enable us to communicate with them effectively.

Speaking to the envoy on the need to have more French teachers, the minister said: “We plead that you consider it a lot more expedient in helping us train our teachers in French both for the primary school level, secondary level and tertiary level.

“So far, we have demonstrated the enthusiasm to foster the teaching and learning of French in Nigerian schools which are the tertiary, basic and secondary levels and our main concern now is the training of sufficient number of French teachers within our school system.”

The minister also flagged off the French Clinic Project in Federal Government Boys College Apo, Abuja.

Speaking on the project, Anwukah said: “The ministry is geared towards establishing French clinics in 104 government colleges, unity schools.

“We are keen and motivated by the need to actualise our dream of making French language our second language of business in Nigeria.

“The clinic is expected to improve the listening, speaking, reading and writing skills of students.

“It is expected that with these skills, our students will fare better in their examinations and in the world of worth.

Gaver said in the absence of sufficient French teachers, the internet can be employed as a tool for training teachers.

Education / Uncertainty And Significant Figures by oladapoa1(m): 7:37pm On Jan 22, 2016
Measurements always have uncertainties. If you measure the thickness of the cover of a hardbound book using an ordinary ruler, your measurement is reliable only to the nearest millimeter. Take for instance, if your result 3 mm, It would be wrong to state this result as 3.00 mm; given the limitations of the measuring device, you can’t tell whether the actual thickness is 3.00 mm, 2.85 mm, or 3.11 mm. But if you use a micrometer caliper, a device that measures distances reliably to the nearest 0.01 mm, the result will have more accuracy, say 2.91 mm. The distinction between these two measurements is in their uncertainty. The measurement using the micrometer caliper has a smaller uncertainty; it’s a more accurate measurement. The uncertainty is also called the error because it indicates the maximum difference there is likely to be between the measured value and the true value.
The uncertainty or error of a measured value depends on the measurement technique used. We often indicate the accuracy of a measured value—that is, how close it is likely to be to the true value—by writing the number, the symbol and a second number indicating the uncertainty of the measurement. If the diameter of a steel rod is given as 56.47 ± 0.02mm, this means that the true value is unlikely to be less than 56.45 mm or greater than 56.49 mm. In a commonly used shorthand notation, the number 1.347(56) means 1.347 ± 0.056. The numbers in parentheses show the uncertainty in the final digits of the main number. We can also express accuracy in terms of the maximum likely fractional error or percent error (also called fractional uncertainty and percent uncertainty). A resistor labeled probably “47 ohms ± 10%” has a true resistance that differs from 47 ohms by no more than 10% of 47 ohms—that is, by about 5 ohms. The resistance is probably between 42 and 52 ohms. For the diameter of the steel rod given above, the fractional error is or about 0.0004; the percent error is or about 0.04%. Even small percent errors can sometimes be very significant.
In many cases the uncertainty of a number is not stated explicitly. Instead, the uncertainty is indicated by the number of meaningful digits, or significant figures, in the measured value. Given the thickness of the cover of a book as 2.91 mm, which has three significant figures, this means that the first two digits are known to be correct, while the third digit is uncertain. The last digit is in the hundredths place, so the uncertainty is about 0.01 mm. Two values with the same number of significant figures may have different uncertainties; a distance given as 137 km also has three significant figures, but the uncertainty is about 1 km.
When numbers that have uncertainties are used to compute other numbers, the computed numbers are also uncertain. When numbers are multiplied or divided, the number of significant figures in the result can be no greater than in the factor with the fewest significant figures. For example, 3.1416 × 2.34 × 0.58 = 4.3.
When we add and subtract numbers, it’s the location of the decimal point that matters, not the number of significant figures. For example, 123.62 + 8.9 = 132.5. Although 123.62 have an uncertainty of about 0.01, 8.9 have an uncertainty of about 0.1. So their sum has an uncertainty of about 0.1 and should be written as 132.5, not 132.52.
As an application of these ideas, suppose you want to verify the value of pie, the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. The true value of this ratio to ten digits is 3.141592654. To test this, you draw a large circle and measure its circumference and diameter to the nearest millimeter, supposing you obtain the values 424 mm and 135 mm as the circumference and diameter respectively, and you punch these into your calculator and obtain the quotient (424 mm)/(135mm) = 3.140740741 . This may seem to disagree with the true value but keep in mind that each of your measurements has three significant figures, so your measured value of can have only three significant figures. It should be stated simply as 3.14. Within the limit of three significant figures, your value does agree with the true value.
Even if you do the arithmetic with a calculator that displays ten digits, it would be wrong to give a ten-digit answer because it misrepresents the accuracy of the results. Always round your final answer to keep only the correct number of significant figures or, in doubtful cases, one more at most.
When calculations are made with very large or very small numbers, we can show significant figures much more easily by using scientific notation, sometimes called powers-of-10 notation. The distance from the earth to the moon is about 384,000,000 m, but writing the number in this form doesn’t indicate the number of significant figures. Instead, we move the decimal point eight places to the left (corresponding to dividing by 108) and multiply by 108 that is, 384,000,000 m = 3.84 × 108 m. In this form, it is clear that we have three significant figures. The number 4.00 × 10-7 also has three significant figures, even though two of them are zeros. Note that in scientific notation the usual practice is to express the quantity as a number between 1 and 10 multiplied by the appropriate power of 10. When an integer or a fraction occurs in a general equation, we treat that number as having no uncertainty at all. For example, in the equation “(Vx)^2 = (Vox)^2 + 2ax(x – xo)”, the coefficient 2 is exactly 2. We can consider this coefficient as having an infinite number of significant figures (2.000000. . .). The same is true of the exponent 2 in (Vx)^2 and (Vox)^2.
Finally, it should be noted that precision is not the same as accuracy. A cheap digital watch that gives the time as 10:35:17 A.M. is very precise (the time is given to the second), but if the watch runs several minutes slow, then this value isn’t very accurate. On the other hand, a grandfather clock might be very accurate (that is, displays the correct time), but if the clock has no second hand, it isn’t very precise. A high-quality measurement is both precise and accurate.

DRILL
The rest energy E of an object with rest mass m is given by Einstein’s famous equation E = m.c^2, where c is the speed of light in vacuum. Find E for an electron for which (to three significant Figures) m = 9.11 × 10^(-31) kg. The SI unit for E is the joule (J); 1J = 1 kg.m^2/s^2 and c = 2.99792458 × 10^8 m/s.

SOLUTION
The target variable is the energy E. We are given the value of the mass, m, and that of the speed of light in vacuum, c.
Substituting the values of m and c into Einstein’s equation, we find
E = (9.11 × 10^(-31) kg) (2.99792458 × 10^(cool m/s)2
= 8.187659678 × 10-14 kg.m^2/s^2.
Since the value of m was given to only three significant figures, we must round this to
E = 8.19 × 10^(-14) kg.m^2/s^2 = 8.19 × 10^(-14) J.

The International Space Apps Challenge is an international mass collaboration focused on space exploration that takes place over 48hours in cities around the world. The event embraces collaborative problem solving with a goal of producing relevant open source solutions to address global needs applicable to both life on earth and life in space. This year we have over 30 challenges in four areas: Earth, Outer Space, Humans and Robotics. NASA is leading this global collaboration along with a number of government collaborators and over 100 organizing teams across the globe.

INTERNATIONAL
The Exploration of Space is by necessity a unified international effort, and Nigeria is not left out as diversity of experience and perspective inevitably produces a better product.
This year, Ilorin would be joining Lagos, Calabar and over 130 cities worldwide in bringing together teams of technologists, students, scientists, designers, artists, and developers to collaborate and engage with publicly available data to design innovative solutions for global challenges.

CHALLENGES
The Idea of a Challenge is so compelling because it acknowledges the fact that the world is facing serious challenges – and that we all have to work together to approach them. While this year, 2 Finalists teams from Ilorin would be offered prizes and then fly to Lagos to compete at the National finals, the global award includes an opportunity to attend a NASA launch.
Globally, the focus is to enable 48hours of highly engaged collaboration by utilizing openly available data, supplied through NASA missions and technology as well as the talent of volunteers from the planet to advance space exploration and improve the quality of life on Earth.

PARTICIPATION
Interested participants should register at http://2015.spaceappschallenge .org and signup to attend at their preferred city. Everyone is encouraged to take a look at the challenges, start brainstorming on possible solutions now and form teams or decide to join a team at the event.
