Click the link above to read from the start. ......Now the next step is to research schools. You just muttered, “What should I be looking out for?” Okay. See some of the things you should be looking out for below. The tuition fee of your chosen course: Know the amount for your course. There’s a list of some relatively cheap schools (by tuition fee, not my academic prowess) for international students below but always confirm from the school website. Click the link or type in your browser to read the complete post: olamidefrancis.substack.com. It is comprehensive with clear images. The tuition deposit for the school: Many schools offer a flexible payment plan. They always ask you to deposit an amount to secure your admission. For instance, for a £12,000, you may be asked to deposit between £3,000 and £5,000. This is just an example. Payment plan for the balance of the tuition fee: Schools’ payment plan differs. For instance, some may spread their payment in two to three instalments. Some maybe three or four. Course modules: Check your modules. Unless you just want to move and don’t care about what you want to study. I chose my school because it is a careers-led Uni and my course offers me the opportunity to function in any industry under the sector. Other schools modules were restricted to an aspect of the industry. Click the link or type in your browser to read the complete post: olamidefrancis.substack.com. It is comprehensive with clear images. Entry requirements: You have to check this. Some schools are hell-bent on you writing the IELTS examination. Others may just ask for a pass in English in your WASSCE. Some schools require references. Others may not. If your school wants an IELTS, go write one now. The expiration time of the examination is two years. Below is a list of some schools that doesn’t require the IELTS exam. 6. Location of school: Yes. Know where the school is. The UK is made up of England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. So know where you are coming to. Most schools in London, the capital of England are expensive. And the cost of living is definitely high too. Just imagine a three-bedroom apartment in Osogbo and Lekki in Lagos. And right now bills are tripling up. But it’s nothing to fear. 7. Ranking of school: If you like, check your school ranking. For me, it’s not so important. I believe school is what you make out of it for yourself. But it does matter sometimes. The calibre of classmates and alumni are different. That’s why some people prefer a masters at Lagos Business School or Covenant University to any other university in Nigeria. Also, some schools have access to some opportunities than others too 8. Work availability in the region of the school: Yes. Ask if there are part-time jobs in the school you choose. Or the rate of commercial activities there. Even distance to where stuff is happening. Some schools are in remote regions where commercial activities are less. So, you might want to ask. It is no longer news that Nigeria’s unemployment rate as of the end of 2020 rose to 33.3% from 27.1% recorded as of Q2 2020, indicating that about 23,187,389 (23.2 million) Nigerians remain unemployed. Let's be truthful, that's just NBS statistics. In real terms and in the job market, it's more than that. However, amidst all these, jobs are still rolling in. Every week, I receive tons of requests from people to help find someone to fill certain positions. Apart from that, there are jobs waiting for you on LinkedIn. Yes, LinkedIn. LinkedIn is a social networking website designed for business professionals. It allows you to share work-related information with other users and keep an online list of professional contacts. If you're a job seeker and you're not on LinkedIn, you're not serious. I have received messages from people asking me that they don't know about it or how to navigate the App. That's what I have created an Ebook to help. Much more than the Ebook, you'll have access to me for 48hrs on any question and other hacks you might need. People are getting jobs on LinkedIn. Don't sleep on it. I got my first three jobs from there, E get how we deh do am. Some people are even working remotely for more than one company via the jobs they got on LinkedIn. There is no lie here. I have been teaching this for over four years. Apart from Job hunting, recruiters use LinkedIn to vet more than 60% of any job application they receive. You just have to be there if you need a job or you want to expand your professional network. Quit wasting time on Facebook and Instagram. LinkedIn can get you a job. I have proof to show with over 300 students that have already passed through my online class. I created this ebook 2 yrs ago to make the information accessible to a critical mass. My Ebook goes for 1k. It used to be 2k but for the sake of Nairalanders, I have slashed it by 50%. After now, it'll go back again. Once you pay, you'll automatically be able to download the ebook. Then, you'll get the link to the WhatsApp group for the 48hrs QandA with me in your email. Make payments here: https://paystack.com/pay/LINKEDINEBOOK Direct bank transfer is also available. Whatsapp 08165483618 Don't delay. There are still jobs out there if you position yourself well. BTW, I need two news writers for a job with a newspaper. Use the WhatsApp number to DM me. The call by many Nigerians for the presidency to proscribe bandits as terrorists are gratuitous. The presidency is upstanding to turn deaf ears to this reverberating call, except that it has failed to treat these vicious murderers; the plunderers of resources and architects of national bewilderment for what they really are — hardened criminals. To refer to these criminals as terrorists is itself a means of glorification of their atrocities and an offering of cheap publicity to their lawlessness and irrational hostility. Bandits are not terrorists. READ MORE: https://naturenews.africa/opinion-bandits-are-not-terrorists/ |
The Federal Government has expressed optimism that the Ajaokuta Steel Plant in Kogi can generate 10,000 jobs for Nigerian engineers when it becomes operational. The Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Mr. Olamilekan Adegbite, made the announcement at a News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum in Abuja on Sunday. He said that if the Ajaokuta Steel Plant commenced operation, all the other steel rolling mills, in Katsina, Oshogbo and Jos would also commence operations. The minister said that his main focus when he was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari was on the Ajaokuta Steel Plant, to ensure that it bounced back but that COVID-19 dashed his plans. The Federal Government has announced that Nigeria will receive 3.92 million doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines tomorrow. This was contained in a statement from the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, NPHCDA yesterday. The delivery will mark the first arrival of the COVID-19 vaccine in the country and make Nigeria the next West African country to benefit from the COVAX Facility after Ghana, and Cote d’Ivoire. The arrival of the vaccine, according to the statement, will enable the NPHCDA to commence the vaccination of Nigerians in priority groups, starting with the frontline healthcare workers. Special Report: How Abattoirs In Nigeria Are Threatening Health And Environment The state of abattoirs in Nigeria has consistently been a source of major concern to public health professionals and environmentalists. Beyond the calls for abattoirs to produce hygienic meats, concerned stakeholders have beckoned on abattoir management to minimize the negative health and environmental implications abattoirs have on their respective host communities. The reason for this call isn’t far-fetched. With high rates of resource consumption, cities face serious problems of high volumes of waste, characterized by inadequate disposal technologies, high costs of management, and the adverse impact of wastes on the environment. Abattoirs, or slaughterhouses, are a major source of water and air pollution worldwide. Waste generated by abattoirs in Nigeria includes condemned organs, carcasses, blood, hides, horns, hoofs, hairs, paunch content, and carcass trimmings. Nature News examines the environment of two major abattoirs in Nigeria; one in the country’s commercial capital, Lagos, and another in the nation’s capital, Abuja. President Muhammadu Buhari has said that his administration’s ambitious policy of lifting 100 million Nigerians out of poverty did not come by accident or “something we just bumped into,” but a deliberate one that would be pursued with remarkable grit and determination. Speaking on Tuesday at a meeting with the Presidential Economic Advisory Council (PEAC), which was also attended by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Buhari agreed with the council that the country required a poverty reduction strategy that would usher in a “rapid, sustained, sustainable and inclusive economic growth.” In a short speech after the presentation of the report on the national poverty reduction strategy, developed by the PEAC, Buhari requested the council to present the document to the Federal Executive Council (FEC) as part of the consultation process. He also agreed with the council that this ambitious program of lifting 100 million Nigerians out of poverty was a challenging one, saying that it was one that can be achieved. According to a study published last week, teeth from mammoths buried in the Siberian permafrost for more than a million years have yielded the oldest DNA ever sequenced, shining a genetic spotlight into the deep past. Researchers said the three specimens, one roughly 800,000 years old and two more than a million years old, provide important insights into the giant Ice Age mammals, including the ancient heritage of the woolly mammoth. The genomes far exceed the oldest previously sequenced DNA – a horse dating to between 780,000 and 560,000 years ago. https://naturenews.africa/scientists-sequenced-worlds-oldest-dna-from-million-year-old-mammoths-found-in-siberia/ |

The Tripod of Communication The tripod of any kind of communication is writing, speaking, and reading. I call them the three musketeers of communication. You should read this piece to the end. READING Reading is the cool guy among the musketeers. All he does is soak in other people’s knowledge. It’s not that he’s completely lazy but he doesn’t do much work compared to the other guys. Perhaps the only major work he involves himself in is in trying to make sense of other people’s ideas and interpret it to his benefit. But reading is a cool guy. Everyone should befriend him. I wrote in-depth about how you can properly befriend him HERE. SPEAKING Speaking is the lousy guy in the group. Obviously. If you meet people who have mastered being friends with him, give them kudos. It’s not an easy feat especially if you have to spontaneously speak. Why I consider speaking a serious task is because it begins from the brain. You have to first coordinate what you want to say on your head before it gets to your mouth. If you transcribe what you vocalise on paper, it’ll likely not make sense as much as you want it to be. It will never be like what you thoughtfully sat down to write. And this brings us to the strongest [in my opinion] of the Musketeers….. …….WRITING Writing is the strongest of the three guys. If you invite him to the writing party, he will not easily honour your invitation. You might even spend hours pacing back and within your room because you’re looking for the right sentence to commence your article. Yes, he’s as difficult as that. He’s not an easy guy to find unless you’ve mastered the art of summoning him. Unfortunately, everyone must find a way to befriend him. If you won’t with all your heart, make him your side guy/chic. But never let go of him completely. There is nothing as “I’m not good at writing” or “I can’t write” in today’s world. To simply put, there is no excuse for not able to write well. At least be able to write for yourself if you can’t write for others. Is this too much to ask? NO, my dear. While there are professional writers, skillful at the art, however, everyone and anyone literate enough must be able to put their thoughts to paper clearly and understandably, void of blunder and grammatical ‘knockouts’. No employer will employ anyone that cannot write well. The ‘roles and responsibilities’ section of many vacancies now has “candidate must have excellent writing ability” or “good editing and writing skills”. Some employers even conduct a writing test for their prospective employees to ascertain their ability. Don’t sleep on it. The truth is that these things are not so difficult as you think it is. English is like mathematics. It has formulas too. Once you know your formulas, you can never be guilty of blunders. Guess what? The best English editors and English teachers I know didn't study English in their first, or even second degree. In lieu of this, I have received multiple responses from my mailing list and friends here as to when we are going to have the next WRITING MASTERCLASS. In line with the Federal Government’s determination to leverage renewable energy technology, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo says Nigeria is doing its best in reducing carbon emission by 20 per cent unconditionally and 45 per cent with international support by 2030. Osinbajo in a message delivered virtually at the commissioning of a 1.12 MW Captive Solar Hybrid Power Plant at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi on Thursday said, with the new solar hybrid power plant by the Federal Government, Nigeria’s energy transition plan to renewables are on course. He noted that the project executed under the Energizing Education Programme (EEP), an initiative of the Federal Government, is aimed at providing 37 Federal Universities and 7 Teaching Hospitals with captive energy solutions that will ensure sustainable and reliable power for students and faculty. According to the Vice President, “renewables are the fastest-growing segment of energy today and will certainly be a key economic driver well into the future.
