Phones › Re: Do You Really Need A High Speed Processing Device? Find Out Here by Olakunlae: 9:19am On Jul 16, 2017 |
Gptech: According to op, the more the tyres in an automobile, the faster it runs, therefore a trailer runs faster than a range rover sports car . You are wrong assuming your analogy is right - which is clearly incorrect in automobile sense. Op clearly states that "The more the cores, the faster the speed at which the device would be able to process and execute any instruction or groups of instructions given to it. However, this does not mean that an octa core is twice as fast as a quad core, it only means that it can multitask better than the quad core". A quad core can have more powerful cores than an octacore processor. For example: A quad core processor with four Cortex-72 will run at a faster clock speed than an octa-core processor with all its cores as cortex-53 because the former is more powerful than the latter. However, an octa-core processor will be able to multitask better than a quad-core processor. Architecture - 14nm or 28nm - is another factor to be considered when talking about speed NB: Ram also affects multitasking as it stores data temporarily. All in all, a good processor requires a good Ram for optimization |

Osemigho: Not compulsory but it's good if you have. Some already have projects they want you to work on, some are willing to develop a proposal with you, while others will enjoy reading a good proposal.
Personally, I didn't have at the beginning(July/August 2016) of my search and emails, got some supervisors, mainly "supervisor A and supervisor C.
Supervisor C had a funding proposal she applied for and was willing to take me in and fund me with it. Her department needed a general and non-proposal kind of sop with the full support of atleast a faculty member. Midway through the application, her proposal was refused and she sent me a "sorry I can't find you again email".
supervisor A school need more than a strong proposal. She supported me in drafting one in September-November 2016. I used the proposal to search for more supervisors in December 2016 (including my current "supervisor B" at University of Calgary).
The full gist supervisor A and B below.
While I was struggling to develop a proposal on infrastructure for supervisor A, after she sent me numerous papers on it, the inspiration for my proposal on waste came during my discussion with my undergraduate thesis supervisor.
I sent an email to supervisor A that "although I am going through the papers she sent, I notice ... about waste and would like to know what she thinks about it". Supervisor A replied that new topic is very interesting and I should focus on that. She sent more papers, I replied with SOP with a proposal paragraph. she commented twice and I edited. third comment was "this is good and should fly".
I adjusted the proposal to remove supervisor A details and school, and I attached it to a "searching for a supervisor for a proposed topic" email to supervisor B. Supervisor B commented "interested, and will like to know what graduate level you are interested in, Master/Phd".
Fastfoward, Supervisor A's school refuse me admission, supervisor B's school accepted me with 2 years scholarship. I am still waiting for visa.
So, If you are going for fall 2018, I will advise you start sending a well drafted personalized email, while developing or if you are finding it difficult to develop a good proposal. Good luck.
Sorry for the long post. Thanks a lot.... I do appreciate this. |

jnyuwa02: McGill and Toronto are probably the toughest schools to get into in Canada. Apply to 4 or 5 schools to make sure you end up somewhere at the end of the day. Please and please you should have done in depth research and have a topic before contacting any professor to become your supervisor. You greatly enhance your chances of him taking you under his tutelage. Alright, thanks |

I have. a question for the ogas here. I'm applying to UofOttawa and Mcgill to study a thesis-based course. I've read that one needs to get a supervisor before one can be considered for admission. My question is, is it necessary to have a research topic/proposal before contacting a potential supervisor?. We all know the way education is in Nigeria that is why I want to leave to go and study abroad. No indepth practical knowledge, as a immunologist, I have never viewed a malaria parasite under a microscope. I'm currently confused as I don't know what to do. I just need someone to give a hint on what to do regarding the aforementioned question I asked. Your little input/advice may go a long way helping me out. Thanks in advance |

Olakunlae: Someone should please help o! I tried using WES to convert my cgpa, 5 pt scale to 4pt scale but it is not giving me any output after typing in all the courses I did in school which are 79, other than taking me back to the beginning of the whole process. Although, it gave an output when I input the courses based on per semester. Regardless, how do I convert the whole cgpa for the whole academic years into 4pt scale? I anticipate a response. Thanks Someone should please help me with solution to this question I asked earlier. I can't contact a potential supervisor if I'm not sure what my cgpa is on a 4pt scale. |
