Nollywood actor, Yul Edochie, has publicly criticised Arise Television anchor, Rufai Oseni in a viral video circulating on social media.

In the clip, Edochie questioned Oseni’s moral authority to challenge political leaders and guests on national television, referencing a past incident in Lagos where the broadcaster was reportedly caught driving on a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lane.

“Is this not the same Rufai Oseni that was caught driving on BRT lane?” Edochie asked.

“When officials caught you, instead of apologising, you were shouting, ‘Do you know who I am? I’m going to call the governor of Lagos State.’”

He alleged that Oseni only apologised after a video of the incident surfaced online.

“If not because somebody had a video, you could not even apologise. If there was no video, what would have happened?” he said.

Galatasaray have left out Victor Osimhen from their Turkish Cup tie against Alanyaspor on Tuesday (today).

Already qualified, Galatasaray will look to conclude their Group A campaign in the Ziraat Turkish Cup with a flawless four-game run, having won their three previous group-stage matches.

Fresh details have emerged regarding the reported arrest and detention of Maryam Bukar, a woman alleged to have had a romantic relationship with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Sources told Daily Nigerian that Ms Bukar has allegedly been held at a military facility for eight months without access to her lawyers or family members. The sources further claimed that the detention was ordered by the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle.

The controversy gained attention after an online report by SaharaReporters on February 19 alleged that the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, was responsible for detaining Ms Bukar over an alleged intimate video call with President Bola Tinubu.

However, security sources familiar with the development told Daily Nigerian that Ribadu had no knowledge of the arrest.

“I can tell you authoritatively that the NSA has no knowledge of her arrest. Some government officials are name-dropping Ribadu in order to oppress people and cover their tracks,” one source said.

The Africa Cup of Nations schedule was a decisive factor in why Manchester United did not pursue a move for Victor Osimhen, according to the club’s former first-team coach Benni McCarthy.

Osimhen had drawn strong interest from Europe’s top clubs after netting 26 league goals in the 2022-23 campaign to inspire Napoli to their first Serie A title in 33 years.

McCarthy, who was part of the coaching staff at Old Trafford under then manager Erik ten Hag, said he was involved in discussions over striker recruitment and believed Osimhen would “fit perfect” at United.

However, the biennial staging of the Africa Cup of Nations, which often takes place during the European season, led the club to reconsider. Despite Osimhen initially being “at the top of the list”, United ultimately shifted their focus elsewhere.

“If you spend £100m on a player, you don’t want to lose him for Afcon,” McCarthy told Newsday on the BBC World Service.

“I think he would have been very successful there. But it [Afcon] was a big stumbling block.

“Losing him for so many important matches, the team suffers not having the main striker there.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has dismissed allegations that he is behind recent defections from opposition parties to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), saying he neither coerced nor forced any politician to leave their party.

The President made the remarks on Wednesday night during an interfaith breaking of the fast with members of the Senate at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where he responded to criticisms that his administration was weakening the opposition.

Tinubu said critics were entitled to their opinions but insisted he had not used force or abused his authority against any political group, stressing that those who defected did so voluntarily.

According to him, he could not be blamed for individuals who chose to leave their parties, likening such defections to people abandoning a sinking ship.

He said, “Critics must talk. When they accused me of killing the opposition, but I didn’t have a gun. I could have given myself a licence when I have the authority.

Former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, erstwhile National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, and some chieftains of the African Democratic Congress were on Tuesday allegedly attacked by suspected thugs in Edo State.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of undermining Nigeria’s democracy through what it described as a hasty assent to the controversial Electoral Act Amendment Bill.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the opposition party said the President’s speedy approval of the bill amounted to “signing the death warrant on credible elections” in the country.

“With the alarmingly speedy assent to the Electoral Act Amendment Bill, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed the death warrant on credible elections and by so doing set Nigeria’s democracy back by several decades,” the statement read.

The ADC questioned what it termed the “extraordinary haste” with which the amendment was passed by the National Assembly and signed into law, despite what it described as widespread objections from citizens.

The Police Force, on Tuesday, fired teargas at protesters who stormed the National Assembly to express their grievances against the Senate’s approval of both electronic transmission and manual collation of election results in the ongoing Electoral Act amendment.

The protesters gathered at the National Assembly gate but later tried to forcefully gain entrance into the complex, which propelled the Police to fire teargas canisters against them.

Following the confrontation, several of the protesters, including women, scampered for safety, leading to pandemonium at the National Assembly gate.

In the panic that ensued, an average-aged woman was reported to have fainted as a result of the gas she inhaled.

Muyiwa Adekeye, Media Adviser to former Kaduna State Governor Malam Nasir El-Rufai, on Thursday alleged attempt by security agents to arrest the ex-governor.

Adekeye alleged that the security agents attempted to arrest El-Rufai upon his arrival on a flight from Cairo.

In a statement, Adekeye said El-Rufai declined to accompany the agents without a formal invitation, after which they took his passport from an aide.

He also claimed that the agents seized the former governor’s international passport at the airport.

There was a rowdy session in the Senate on Tuesday during an emergency session to adopt the Votes and Proceedings of the February 4th sitting, during which the Electoral Bill was passed.

This followed the controversy that trailed the decision of the Red Chamber to exclude a provision mandating real time electronic transmission of results from polling units in the ongoing amendment of the Electoral Act.

The session became rowdy after Senate President Godswill Akpabio read out details of proposed amendment to Section 60(3) after Senator Tahir Monguno (APC, Borno) had moved a motion under Order 1b 52(6) that the Red Chamber rescinded its earlier decision.

Some lawmakers were not comfortable with certain words in the new proposal.

Thereafter, Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe called for a point of order to allow each senator vote individually, citing division under Order 70. He later withdrew the point of order which might jeopardize the amendment to Clause 60(3).

Ademola Lookman has completed his move to Atletico Madrid from Atalanta.

The Spanish club announced the official signing on Monday a few hours before the close of the 2026 winter transfer window in Europe.

According Fabrizio Romano, the Italian journalist, Atletico paid a €35 million fixed fee and €5 million add-ons for the 29-year-old winger. Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly declared himself unavailable to play for Al-Nassr in their next league matches, and the reason has emerged. Al-Nassr is currently preparing for a Saudi Professional League fixture away against Al-Riyadh, but could be without their biggest player.

At 40 and soon to be 41 on February 5, Ronaldo’s workload is being managed as he aims for full fitness for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. However, a report in Portugal has dismissed the claims that Ronaldo’s potential unavailability is due to fitness or workload management.

According to Portuguese outlet A Bola, the five-time Ballon d'Or is refusing to play because of his displeasure with the club’s management. Ronaldo is reportedly unhappy with how the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) over the support to Al-Nassr, compared to the other clubs managed by the organisation.

PIF also manages Al-Ittihad, Al-Hilal and Al-Ahli, all of which have either won the Saudi Pro League or AFC Champions League recently, while Al-Nassr remain trophyless since Ronaldo joined. Ronaldo’s anger was reportedly heightened as league leaders Al-Hilal closed in on the signing of Karim Benzema from Al-Ittihad, which would be their fifth signing during the current window.
