Social media activist, Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, on Thursday, insisted that he will not hand over to the Nigeria Police Force the evidence supporting his allegations that some security personnel are aiding kidnappers and bandits.

Otse said he was prepared to respond to the police invitation but maintained that he would only disclose his evidence if the matter was taken to court.

He spoke in a video posted on his Instagram page on Thursday while reacting to the invitation issued by the police.

The police had asked the activist to provide evidence for his allegation that some officers deployed to checkpoints allegedly identify wealthy travellers and relay their information to kidnappers, who subsequently target them for abduction.

The Force described the claim as serious and unsubstantiated, warning that such allegations could damage public confidence in the police.

The police, however, said it was prepared to examine any evidence Otse presented and investigate the matter accordingly.

But the activist rejected the request, questioning why he should give the police evidence that could later form part of a criminal case against him.

Chibuike Amaechi, former governor of Rivers state and vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), clashed with Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), during the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) conference in Port Harcourt, Rivers state capital, on Monday.

Amaechi was responding to Sowore’s criticism that members of Nigeria’s political elite, including the former minister of transportation, had contributed to the country’s economic problems.

Addressing the audience, Sowore, launched a direct broadside against establishment politicians, calling on voters to reject repeated promises from figures who had previously held office.

Highlighting an alleged earlier admissions made by Amaechi, Sowore added: “I loved one thing that Amaechi said. He said, apart from Sowore and Abiola, the rest of us that have been in government have failed. They have no business coming back.”

Amaechi cited some of the major railway projects undertaken during his tenure as minister of transportation, including the Lagos-Ibadan and Abuja-Kaduna rail lines.

Tears and grief enveloped Ilaro, Ogun State, on Monday as veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, was laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites.

Family members, friends, sympathisers, fans and colleagues of the late actor gathered in his home town to pay their final respects as the burial rites were conducted.

Among those seen at the residence of the deceased were his close associates and colleagues, including Yinka Quadri, Prince Jide Kosoko and Ireti Osayemi.

An Islamic cleric also addressed those gathered at the residence, delivering a message as the burial rites progressed.

The body of the actor, wrapped in white clothing, was carried in accordance with Islamic burial rites.

Former lawmaker, Dino Melaye, has slammed President Bola Tinubu for appointing himself as the chairman of his 2027 campaign council.

According to the presidential campaign council list released by the All Progressives Congress, APC, on Saturday, Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima are expected to serve as chairman and vice chairman, respectively.

Reacting, Melaye, in a post on his official Facebook page, said it was abnormal for a presidential candidate to serve as chairman of his own campaign team, describing the move as disgraceful.

According to Melaye, Tinubu’s move reflects his distrust of both APC governors and ministers, stating that the president is even afraid of his own shadow.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has said he is ready to give the African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and other opposition candidates in the upcoming 2027 election high blood pressure.

Wike made the vow on Friday in Abuja while speaking to journalists during an inspection of infrastructure projects in the FCT.

The minister reaffirmed his position that there is nothing like leading opposition party in the country.

President Bola Tinubu has fired back at the African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, over his recent comment on fuel subsidy.

Recall that reports that President Tinubu, upon assumption of office on May 29, 2023, announced the removal of fuel subsidy and the floating of the Nigerian currency, the naira.

Average Nigerians are said to have faced hardship due to the rise in the price of petrol, which affected every facet of the economy.

Atiku had, during an interview on Wednesday, pledged to reinstate the fuel subsidy regime if he is elected president of Nigeria in 2027.

The Senior Special Assistant on Digital Media to Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, Apostle Kassy Chukwu, has said Davido should not expect to perform in the state for the remainder of the governor’s tenure, amid the ongoing dispute between the singer and the governor.

Chukwu made the declaration in a video shared on YouTube by Peniel TV International Benin City, Nigeria, on Thursday.

The aide’s comments followed Davido’s refusal to apologise for remarks he made about Okpebholo after the governor criticised Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, Davido’s uncle, during the build-up to the August 15 governorship election.

Nigerian businessman and social commentator, Prince Isaac Fayose, has lamented the decision of opposition politicians who he supported to realign with leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has criticised the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Atiku Abubakar, over his promise to consider restoring fuel subsidy if elected President in 2027.

Atiku had, in a recent interview, said he would consider restoring the subsidy removed by President Bola Tinubu.

Reacting to the statement while addressing journalists in Abuja on Thursday, Wike described the former Vice President as confused, accusing him of inconsistency on the subsidy issue.

According to Wike, Atiku had during the 2022 presidential campaign promised to remove the subsidy if elected, but was now proposing its restoration.

“Atiku is confused. He said in 2022 that he was going to remove the subsidy, now in 2026 he wants to restore fuel subsidy. Are you going back to the fraud?” Wike asked.

The FCT minister stressed that political leaders must be consistent in their promises and tell Nigerians the truth.

Suspected thugs on Wednesday attacked the convoy of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, shortly after his visit to the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji, triggering an exchange of gunfire with the governor’s security personnel.

The shooting, which lasted for about 12 to 15 minutes, occurred shortly after Adeleke left the palace hall where he had met with the monarch.

Adeleke had arrived at the Ataoja’s palace at about 3:15 pm in a motorcade of about 20 vehicles after leaving the Osun State headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Osogbo, where he received his Certificate of Return following his re-election.

An eyewitness, who spoke with our correspondent on the telephone on condition of anonymity for security reasons, said Adeleke and his entourage were received by Oyetunji, where the governor reportedly presented his Certificate of Return to the monarch.

The eyewitness said trouble started as the meeting was winding down after the monarch had offered prayers.

According to her, Adeleke had already left the hall through an exit reserved for the monarch and his wives when the shooting started.

She said, “He was already in the bus that brought him and his close aides to the palace when we started hearing heavy gunshots. Those that attacked had come in an unregistered Sienna space bus through the Ita Olokan area of Osogbo.

Reacting to the viral news on her Instagram page, the actor’s daughter, Haleemah Taiwo, warned the public to desist from spreading unverified news.

She wrote, “This is fake. Please stop spreading fake news.”

This is coming less than 24 hours after Haleemah sought help from the public following her father’s battle with stage 4 cancer.

She urged anyone who can help with herbal or advanced medical treatment to reach out to her, noting that the hospital has stopped chemotherapy treatment for the actor.

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) planned to illegally bypass the established electoral collation process.

Adeleke raised the alarm shortly after casting his vote at Sagba Abogunde Ward 2, Unit 9, in Ede North Local Government Area.

He said, “I have it on authority that they don’t want to go through the normal process from units to ward and to local government.”

Governor Adeleke, the Accord Party candidate in the election, also alleged that a police officer identified as “London” from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has been imported to cause unrest and disrupt the ongoing governorship election.

Adeleke called on the Inspector-General of Police and other security agencies to watch for the alleged officer and take necessary action.

Chaos erupted on Saturday during the Osun State Governorship election at the polling unit of the state’s Deputy Governor and Accord Party running mate, Prince Kola Adewusi.

It was gathered that fight broke out after the deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Benjamin Kayode Adereti, arrives at the Deputy Governor’s polling unit.

There was drama in Modakeke, Osun State, Saturday, after some men dressed as police officers allegedly stormed a distribution centre and disrupted the distribution of election materials.

An X user, identified as Oyindampla, made the claim in a post on Saturday.

The Osun State Police Command has arrested a serving member of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Abiola Ibrahim Inaolaji, alongside 143 suspected electoral mercenaries camped at his residence in Ikire.

The lawmaker, who represents Irewole/Isokan State Constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly, was arrested on Friday night during a police operation. More than 200 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) were reportedly recovered during the operation.

In a video clip, Ibrahim was seen making a preliminary statement in which he identified himself and allegedly confessed to facilitating the movement of the 146 suspects into Osun State from neighbouring states for the purpose of voting in the election.

The arrest is part of intensified security operations by the police ahead of the election, as the command moves to prevent activities capable of undermining the credibility of the electoral process.

Two suspected political thugs from Edo State have reportedly stormed Osun State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election, threatening to capture incumbent governor and Accord Party candidate, Ademola Adeleke.

In a one-minute, 38-second video circulating online, the two young men were seen issuing threats against Adeleke and Afrobeats singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.

The young men claimed that they had arrived in Osun State ahead of the election and vowed to remove the incumbent governor from the Government House.

A woman identified in a viral video as “Arugba” has allegedly threatened voters in Osun State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election, warning those who do not support the All Progressives Congress against coming out to vote.

The video, which circulated widely on social media, showed the woman alongside several others making remarks that appeared aimed at intimidating voters before the August 15 election.

In the footage, she allegedly threatened physical harm against people who cast their ballots for parties other than the APC.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s Senior Political Assistant, Demola Olarewaju, has described the lingering disagreement between his principal and former President Olusegun Obasanjo as political rather than personal.

Olarewaju spoke on Monday during an interview on Frontline, a current affairs programme on Eagle 102.5 FM, Ilese-Ijebu, Ogun State, where he appeared alongside the Executive Director of the Centre for Responsive Governance, Ayodeji Ologun.

Recall that Obasanjo had recently described his decision to pick Atiku as his running mate in 1999 as the “biggest mistake” of his political life.

Google’s video streaming platform YouTube has announced changes to its Partner Program (YPP) that will introduce new eligibility requirements for creators seeking ad and YouTube Premium revenue sharing from 2027.

New creators applying to the programme will need either 8,000 qualified watch hours in the last 365 days or 20 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days.

The changes will take effect on February 1, 2027 and will not affect creators who are already part of the YouTube Partner Program. YouTube said the changes are mainly focused at rewarding active creators and expanding opportunities to earn on the platform.

The changes mark YouTube’s first significant update to YPP requirements since 2018. The company said it expects to pay creators more in 2027 than it did in 2026.

A Nigerian Army Colonel, Mohammed Ma’aji, has disclosed the main reason he planned a coup to overthrow President Bola Tinubu.

According to Premium Times, Ma’aji said worsening insecurity, corruption and economic hardship are among the grievances discussed by those allegedly involved in the failed coup.

Ma’aji stated that discussions about military intervention began in 2023, towards the end of the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

President Bola Tinubu has ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to lift the order freezing the account of the Osun State government.

The President, in a statement on Thursday, said he feels personally embarrassed by the action of the EFCC in freezing the Osun State government account.

Tinubu argued that the timing of the action by the anti-graft agency raises several questions.

“It has come to my notice that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) obtained a court order on August 5, 2026, freezing the accounts of the Osun State Government. I must state that I feel deeply embarrassed not by the EFCC’s exercise of its mandate backed by a court order, but by the timing of the agency’s action. This is so because every action taken by an institution of State, especially at the Federal level, is always credited to me, as the President, even when I may not have had any prior knowledge of the action”, Tinubu said.

President Tinubu reiterated that he remains committed to allowing government institutions to function without interference based on their clearly defined powers.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said the political crisis in Rivers State denied Governor Siminalayi Fubara the opportunity to seek a second term, blaming what he described as poor advice from political associates and external interests.

Wike made the remarks during the August edition of his monthly media chat, aired live on Channels TV on Tuesday, while reflecting on his relationship with his estranged political ally.

According to the former Rivers governor, he repeatedly advised Fubara not to abandon the political structure that brought him to power.

The lavish ceremony, which trended across social media under the hashtag #JP2026, followed the couple’s court wedding on July 29 after they completed their traditional marriage rites earlier in Benin City, Edo State.

The event attracted personalities from across Nigeria’s entertainment and social media space.

Guests have continued to arrive at the wedding venue, with several prominent personalities already in attendance.
