Nollywood stars on Friday bid a final farewell to actress, producer and filmmaker Allwell Ademola, who was buried in Lagos amid grief and emotional scenes from colleagues, friends and family members.

Videos from the burial showed sombre moments as Ademola’s coffin was lowered into the grave, with several colleagues struggling to hold back tears.

Actress Liz DaSilva was visibly emotional at the graveside, while actors Rotimi Salami, Biola Adebayo, Saheed Balogun and Kunle Afod were present during the final rites.

The burial followed a candlelight procession held in her honour on Thursday night, led by actors Fathia Balogun, Femi Adebayo and Iyabo Ojo.

The procession began hours after a service of songs organised at LTV8 in Lagos.

The Rivers State House of Assembly has formally initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara, with Speaker Martins Amaewhule describing the governor as a “mistake” and accusing him of acts of gross misconduct.

The development followed the House’s decision to reverse its earlier plan to resume plenary on January 26, opting instead to reconvene on Thursday.

During the plenary presided over by Amaewhule, the Majority Leader, Major Jack, read a notice of allegations and gross misconduct levelled against the governor. The notice, signed by 26 lawmakers, accused Fubara of actions allegedly in violation of the Nigerian Constitution.

Among the allegations, the lawmakers accused the governor of converting state funds into dollars and allegedly paying individuals from Abuja to influence President Bola Tinubu to prevail on the Assembly not to summon him to present the 2026 budget.

Amaewhule disclosed that the notice would be served on the governor within seven days, in line with constitutional provisions.

Actress, Regina Daniels, has threatened to sue her estranged husband, Senator Ned Nwoko and others for accusing of taking hard drugs.

The actress made the threat in a video on her Instagram page on Wednesday.

In the video, she displayed laboratory test results conducted by a California hospital. According to the test results, Regina, who tested negative for hard drugs, is only associated with ecstasy better known as molly.

In her heartfelt post, Daniels shared how the ordeal tested her resilience.

She wrote, “The past few months of my life have been nothing short of heavy, one of those seasons that tries to sit on your chest and ask, ‘So, what are we doing next?

“It has been a major turning point, one that shook me to my core. Everything I had ever known was drowning right in front of me.”

Despite the emotional pressure, Daniels said she survived because of the support she received.

National Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Ajibola Basiru, has warned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to desist from what he described as attempts to destabilise the party.

He insisted that the minister should “immediately resign” from the President Bola Tinubu administration if he cannot stop interfering in the party’s affairs.

Basiru, in a strongly worded statement issued on Monday in Abuja said his attention had been drawn to what he described as “the tirade of the Minister of the FCT against my person and my office as the National Secretary of the APC,” following his position that “all members of the NWC must accord any sitting Governor his due respect and that the Governors remain the leaders of the Party in their States.”

He expressed shock that “such an innocuous statement can elicit such uncouth responses from no less than a member of the Federal Executive Council.”

Basiru insisted that it was incompatible for Wike to remain in the cabinet of an APC-led government while allegedly causing internal disarray within the party, stating, “he cannot be in the Federal Executive Council of an APC Government and be causing confusion within any organ or structure of the Party at any level, using the leverage of that same office.”

He added that “the honourable thing to do is to resign his appointment as Minister.”

Humanitarian and activist Harrison Gwamnishu has spoken publicly about an ongoing dispute involving a man identified as Franklin, following weeks of online allegations and commentary.

In a video shared on his Instagram page, Gwamnishu explained that his silence was deliberate, stressing that he chose not to speak while a kidnapping victim connected to the matter was still being held in the bush. Governor Alex Otti of Abia State says he will not defect from the Labour Party despite plans by the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to leave the platform.

Otti made this declaration on Tuesday during his monthly media briefing in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, saying he had decided to remain in the Labour Party to help rebuild and reposition it.

He revealed that Obi had personally informed him of his intention to exit the party and that he had no objection to the decision, but emphasised that his own political path would be different.

“If you remember, I joined the Labour Party before Peter Obi, so I did not join the party with him. He has communicated to me that he is leaving the Labour Party. I gave him my blessings. But I will remain in the Labour Party, and I told him that I would continue the struggle to rescue the Labour Party,” Otti disclosed.

The governor also described the Labour Party as the platform that brought him to office, noting that his loyalty remained with the party for now.

World heavyweight boxing star Anthony Joshua was involved in a road traffic accident on Monday along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Makun, Ogun State.

Eyewitnesses said the crash happened on a busy stretch of the highway when the vehicle conveying Anthony Joshua collided with another car. The exact cause of the accident remains under investigation by local authorities.

The United States has carried out multiple air strikes on Islamic State (ISIS) militants in north-west Nigeria, President Donald Trump announced on Thursday, saying the operation targeted fighters accused of killing mainly Christians in the region.

In a Truth Social post late on Christmas Day, Mr Trump said the strikes were launched “at my direction as Commander in Chief.”

He wrote: “Tonight, at my direction… the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS Terrorist Scum in Northwest Nigeria, who have been targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians…”

“I have previously warned these Terrorists that if they did not stop the slaughtering of Christians, there would be hell to pay, and tonight, there was,” Trump added.

A serious accident involving a tanker and a heavy-duty truck has caused major traffic delays on the Third Mainland Bridge this morning.

The crash occurred overnight near the Unilag waterfront on the lanes heading toward Lagos Island.

As a result of the collision, traffic is moving very slowly for drivers coming from the Tollgate and heading towards Iyana Oworo.

Many commuters woke up to find significant disruptions on their way to work.

Officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Nigeria Police Force were at the scene immediately.

Military and security sources have disclosed that around a dozen soldiers, including the ringleaders, have been arrested in Benin Republic following a failed attempted coup.

One source told AFP on Sunday that 13 people have been detained, while another confirmed that all but one of the suspects are serving soldiers; the remaining detainee is a former member of the armed forces.

The arrests come after a group of military officers appeared on Benin’s national television on Sunday morning, announcing the removal of President Patrice Talon and the dissolution of all state institutions.

A major crisis is currently unfolding within the Nigerian Senate following the inclusion of social media commentator and former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, in the list of ambassadorial nominees.

The controversial appointment, which comes despite Omokri’s past scathing criticism of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has sparked intense factional battles and even led to the temporary shutdown of the lawmakers’ internal communication platform.

Three officials from the office of Abia State Governor Alex Otti were attacked by unidentified gunmen on Tuesday in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.

The incident took place between Umuowa and Ihite junction, just a few kilometres from Sam Mbakwe Airport.

The assailants, believed to be fleeing gunmen, opened fire on the vehicle transporting the governor’s aides near the airport corridor.

In a statement on Tuesday, Njoku Ukoha, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Otti, clarified that the officials targeted were part of an advance team and not the governor’s convoy.

“In the early hours of today, December 2nd, an advance team of three members from the Office of the Executive Governor of Abia State, His Excellency Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, on duty to Sam Mbakwe Airport, Imo State, was attacked by unidentified gunmen,” the statement said.

“The incident occurred between Umuowa and Ihite junction, shortly before the Sam Mbakwe Airport Junction in Imo State.”

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has urged the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, to remain calm and resolute as he intensifies ongoing engagements aimed at securing his release.

Otti assured Nnamdi Kanu during a visit to the IPOB leader at the Sokoto Correctional Centre.

This was disclosed on Sunday night in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma.

Otti, who was accompanied by Abia State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna (SAN); Kanu’s younger brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu; and senior officials of the Sokoto State government, told Nnamdi Kanu that the processes he initiated more than two years ago toward resolving the issue had been “heightened despite recent developments.”

Nigerian TV personality, Oseni Rufai, has revealed the monthly salaries of Nigerian ambassadors.

This is following the list of Ambassadorial nominees forwarded to the national assembly by President Bola Tinubu on Saturday.

Ambassadors typically fall into the highest grade levels (GL 17 or equivalent), with additional allowances for overseas postings.

Based on available data from government budget allocations, salary surveys, and reports on foreign service personnel costs, the basic salary is modest by international standards but is supplemented by substantial allowances.

Former Governor of Anambra State, Chris Ngige’s convoy, was attacked today on the Nkpor–Nnobi Road in Idemili North Local Government Area.

According to a statement by Ngige’s former media aide, Sir Fred Chukwuelobe, the former governor was not in the convoy at the time of the attack.

However, a policeman in the pilot car was shot, and his gun and uniform were taken by the suspected assailants, who were reportedly dressed in police and army uniforms.

Tragically, a woman recording the incident on her phone was fatally shot by the gunmen.

Former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, is among African leaders and high-profile election observers currently stranded in Guinea-Bissau after military officers seized power on Wednesday in a coup d’état.

Jonathan was part of a 36-member delegation on the joint observer mission led by the African Union (AU), the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the West African Elders Forum (WAEF), deployed to the country to monitor the presidential election held on Sunday.

The coup followed self-declared victory claims by President Umaro Embaló, who is seeking re-election, and his main challenger, Fernando Dias, even as Guinea-Bissau’s electoral commission had yet to release official results.

The military takeover occurred after both candidates separately announced themselves as winners, despite the absence of certified results from the national electoral body.

Following the coup, the military closed all land and air borders, shut down airports, and grounded civil movement, effectively trapping the observer delegation and several top officials in the country.

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has dismissed claims by the former Abia State governor, Orji Uzor Kalu, that the activism of pro-Biafra agitator, Nnamdi Kanu led to the death of 30,000 individuals in the Southeast.

IPOB described Orji Uzor Kalu as a liar and a distracted individual for making such a remark.

Emma Powerful, the spokesman of the group, said the declaration arose from a malevolent spirit and a person who has chosen to barter his kin for selfish political gain.

A statement by Powerful said Kanu evidence has shown that Kanu has consistently been targets of military aggression, violence, and killings backed by the State.

The statement reads partly: “The worldwide family and movement of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) denounce the irresponsible and false claim from Senator Orji Uzor that 30,000 individuals lost their lives due to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s activism in the South East Region.

“IPOB is extremely upset and enraged by Orji Uzor’s false statements, as his assertions are entirely fabricated and part of a deliberate campaign to undermine IPOB and MNK.

In a video obtained by SaharaReporters, the armed militant — wearing what appeared to be a Nigerian military jacket — boasted about recent kidnappings of schoolchildren in Kebbi and Niger states.

The terrorist, whose identity was not immediately confirmed, said they are unfazed by recent arrests made by security forces.

According to him, the Nigerian government had failed in its responsibility to protect citizens.

“Everyone has woken up. We kidnapped school students in Kebbi State and Niger State. Next time, we will be kidnapping Nigerian military officers and taking them to the forest,” he said in the video.
