Mr. Muhammudu Buhari, President of Nigeria on Thursday, stated that the major goals of his administration could not be effectively achieved without a cordial relationship between Nigeria and neighbouring countries.

According to Mr. Femi Adesina, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, the President spoke while receiving the outgoing Ambassadors of Ethiopia and Turkey at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

“The President said the core policies of the administration – securing the country, fighting corruption, and reviving the economy – cannot be effectively done without good neighbourliness and deepening of the relationship with allies,” the statement read.

Buhari said Nigeria under his watch would continue to deepen relationships with her allies, particularly those with whom she shares mutually beneficial interests.

He noted that security and economic development are crucial to any country, and that was why he visited Nigeria’s immediate neighbours immediately after he assumed office in 2015.

Hip-hop culture in Nigeria can be traced as far back as the mid 80’s. It advanced in Nigeria because of the impact of the American culture spreading all around the world.

In Nigeria, hip hop initially picked up its ground in Lagos when individuals like DJ Kool Herc, Afrika Bambata and Grandmaster Flash made hip hop beats implanting the afro-culture into it. In those days, the funding wasn’t available as a large portion of the acts were indie producing music with their desktops and free softwares, however, as the 90’s approached, the quality of hip-hop music expanded, prevailing upon the Nigerian audience.

Acts like Junior and Pretty, The Remedies, attempted at making hip-hop recognized in Nigeria. Weird MC is also one of those act who truly acquired the American hip-hop style as she mixed it with Afro-beat in her track titled “Allen Avenue” off her Simply Weird album which has unarguably been known as the first full-length rap collection in Nigeria.

Music groups like Swat Roots which comprises of Modenine, Overdose, Terry Tha Rapman, 6 Foot Plus; The Thoroughbreds which had Elajoe, iLLBliss, B-Elect, Obiwon; The Trybesmen which quite had eLDee the Don and Ruff Rugged n Raw literally paved way for the likes of M.I, Naeto C, Ikechukwu, Ice Prince, Jesse Jagz, A-Q, Vector, Yung6ix just to mention a few.

It is 2018 now, a lot of things has happened, and in particular, Nigerian hip-hop music is on a steady decline.

Definitely, someone has to succumb to this. Who do we allay the blame to? Absolutely it’s a lot for one individual alone. So who is to be blamed for the decline?

Indeed, Olamide and Phyno would flawlessly fit into these shoes. Coming up as guys who had their eyes on the objective, the objective of making good hip-hop music and not making party sounds with practically no significance.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s statement, some days back in London, which suggested that the Nigerian youths were lazy, was the latest in what many people call the president’s inadvertent de-marketing of his people and country. Curiously, this is not a habit he formed at old age.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi Ojaja II, will embark on a 10-day historical visit to Brazil in June, to strengthen the cultural ties between both countries.

The visit will strengthen the cultural affinities between the blacks in Brazil and Yorubas in Nigeria with a view to using cultural heritage to harness an economic partnership that will benefit the two countries.

According to report, the Director of Media and Public Affairs of Ooni’s Palace, Mr. Moses Olafare, made this known in Ile-Ife on Thursday.

Olafare said the trip would also strategically enable the African foremost monarch to showcase tourism potential of Nigeria to attract Brazilians to the country under the diaspora programme.


“The visit will open a heritage house as an export point for Nigerian businesses under the Nigerian Diaspora Exchange of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC).

“As the Spiritual Head of Yoruba race globally, Ooni Ogunwusi is saddled with the responsibility of uniting African descendants of Yoruba extract throughout the world estimated to be more than 500 million in over 80 countries.

“Ooni Ogunwusi recently honored the outgoing Brazilian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mrs. Maria Auxiliadora Figueiredo with Oodua Descendant Award of Excellence in recognition of her efforts in promoting cultural exchange between Nigeria and Brazil.

“Figueiredo attaches utmost importance to the South American country recalling that over 13 million people, most of whom were Yoruba were taken from Africa to Brazil via Bahia, many centuries ago.

“The population has greatly increased as we today have about 80 million Brazilians claiming their ancestral root back to Ile-Ife in Yorubaland and still keeping our heritage intact till date in their country.

“This also informed Ooni’s choice of States of Bahia, Rio De Janeiro and Minas where the Yoruba cultures are being proudly showcased to be the historical visit destinations.”

Olafare said that Ooni Ogunwusi would be in Salvador de Bahia to declare the City of Bahia as the spiritual Capital of all Yorubas in the Americas.

“He will be in Rio de Janeiro to present a message on religious tolerance and peace at the State Parliament and also meet with the business community.

“The monarch will deliver lectures at some Universities alongside Professors Wole Soyinka, Wande Abimbola, Sophie Oluwole etc.”

He said that traditional ruler’s visit would mark a new beginning with giant strides capable of strengthening the age-long diplomatic ties between Nigeria and Brazil.

“This will allow cultural, economic and spiritual exchanges that will yield revenues for our people.”

On Thursday, Mr. Muhammadu Buhari while inaugurating 500 tractors and other farm implements procured by the Bauchi State government at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium (ATBS) had restated his decision for re-election in 2019.

Mr. Buhari assured his supporters that he is confident of winning the next election. According to his statement, he said that he would seek re-election for a second term and win again because he “is a clean man and not corrupt like other past Nigerian leaders.”

He noted that “most Nigerian treasury looters have more than 20 to 30 houses yet some people in the country cannot afford even a single room to sleep in because poverty has eaten them up.”

“I don’t have this type of mind to loot the treasury of Nigeria while people are suffering.” the president vowed that he “will fish out looters and cheaters of the country, while all the funds recovered from them will be remitted into the national coffers.”
Further, the president encouraged parents to send their children to school to acquire western education, saying life would not be good without education. He said “Assuming I did not go to school, I will not be the President of Nigeria today. You should go to school, not because you want to work but to acquire knowledge for the future.”

The Lagos State Government, under Ambode’s led Administration on Wednesday, has proclaimed that they have rescued nothing less than 1680 beggars and mentally-challenged persons from Lagos streets in the last past year.

However, it was accounted that about 162 children were taken off the streets in the same period.

Mr Agboola Daburu, The Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, announced this at a press conference to celebrate the third anniversary of Governor Akinwunmu Ambode, adding that

1,299 of the destitute persons had been rehabilitated and reunited with their families.

Dabiri explained that of the 162 children rescued, 62 were males while 100 were females.

The commissioner further stated that 79 abandoned children were found in Lagos.

He said 15 girls were sexually abused; 28 other girls were physically abused, while 32 others were placed in care and shelter.

He said the government carried out reformatory services at the Lagos Rehabilitation and Training Centre, Majidun, specifically designed for rehabilitation of beggars and mentally challenged persons.

“The centre built as a transit home currently has a population of 1,288 rehabilitated persons undergoing medical treatment – psycho-social therapy, behavioural modification and social investigation,” he said.

Dabiri who lamented increase in the number of youths engaging in drug abuse added that the government was working to tackle the surge

Mr. Buhari has been accused of committing an “impeachable offence” by authorizing the purchase of $462m jets for the military without appropriation by the National Assembly. Buhari is buying 12 Super Tucano fighter jets from the US with the money of which the machinery will be delivered in 2020.

According to Kingsley Chinda both the 1999 Constitution and other laws in the country did not recognise spending by the President in “anticipation of approval” by the legislature.

Following the reading of President Buhari’s letter to the House of Representatives, by Speaker Yakubu Dogara, informing the House that the expenditure was done in “anticipation of approval” by the National Assembly the lawmakers became angry

Mr Yemi Osinbajo, Vice President of Nigeria, has condemned the killing of two priests in Benue state.

Herdsmen attacked St. Ignatius Quasi Parish Ukpor-Mbalom in Ayar-Mbalom community of Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, after killing two Catholic priests and 17 church members.

According to report, Osinbajo described the killing as a heinous sacrilege. he, however, stated that the devil’s plan is to cause religious conflict in Nigeria. He made this known in a statement at the Inauguration of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry headquarters auditorium in Gbagada, Lagos state.

“…I was notified of the violation of a Catholic church in Benue State by armed killers, who went there while a burial mass was taking place and killed the priest and some worshippers.



“It is not only a heinous sacrilege but high wickedness to kill persons in the place of worship. As I discuss these issues with the President and other members of the security council, it is evident to me and to many that the devil’s biggest agenda is to stoke up a religious conflict in Nigeria; one that will make it impossible for anyone to preach the gospel or even Muslims to worship in their mosques.
