Wrong! Wenger's just a stubborn manager. Read this:
I'll repeat it yet again - Arsenal have never in their entire history paid a dividend to shareholders, so the board are not making any more money than the worth of the shares they paid for. Those shares are unlikely to go up in value if the team is unsuccessful and revenue drops. Therefore the board have a vested interest in ensuring the team are successful, but also have responsibility for ensuring the financial stability of the club. More to being a club director than just throwing money at it.

And more tongue:
"Unique" will be the next casualty. Even the BBC talks about things being "very unique" or fairly unique" nowadays. Something is either unique or it is not.
The incorrect use of this word was started by the Americans, who are well-known for their lazy approach to using proper English. I've often heard it used in American TV broadcasts and I was initially amazed that they use it to say something which turns out to be impossible, such as "I literally laughed myself to death". Now I'm used to hearing it and just think how ridiculous Americans can be. I think the OED is wrong to include this new meaning. it's an English dictionary, not an American dictionary!
Oh well, if language experts are willing to water down, literally(!), words that the general public use incorrectly then why do we bother learning the rules in the first place! But there again, I'm not surprised - BBC newsreaders make basic language errors every day. The one that gets me every time is the wrong use of "sat" as in "He was "sat" on his own instead of "He was sitting on his own". LOL!
Hahaha. Blame the people across the pond.

Some dictionaries also say that 'different to' and 'different than' are OK. Some dictionaries are wrong...

More:

Your comments: This really bugs me. I just had a conversation with my son yesterday because he told me the Merriam Webster dictionary had this definition of 'literally' and I told him, "Oh you don't go by MW, you go by OED". And now this.
If they are going to start explaining every example of word misuse in the English language that book is going to triple in size.
Oh dear God, my Father will have a stroke when he hears this. It is one of his (many) pet hates that people use this word incorrectly and now he won't be able to scold them!!!
Same way I felt when I saw "gateman". lol grin grin

Oh mai Godddd grin grin
From a commenter. "Of" to become an auxiliary verb, lol:
What about "this car's infinitely more reliable than that one". I see so many people misusing the word "infinitely" I worry that the dictionaries will have to change the accepted definition. And then what word will we use when we REALLY mean infinite? And PLEASE don't tell me they'll change the definition of "of" to be an auxiliary verb, as in "I could of", "I would of".
^^Because it's common these days.

Definition of "literally" and "marriage" to change.

But the OED prides itself on constantly looking out for new ways words can be interpreted.

In June the leading authority on the English language confirmed that the definition of the word 'marriage' will be changed now a law allowing same-sex couples to get married has been passed.
Language experts said the definition did not change overnight but they will monitor how the word marriage changes over the next year.

An Oxford University Press spokeswoman said: ‘We continually monitor the words in our dictionaries, paying particular to those words whose usage is shifting, so yes, this will happen with marriage.’

As it stands, OxfordDictionaries.com defines marriage as being a ‘formal union of a man and a woman, typically as recognised by law, by which they become husband and wife.’

In a reference, it says marriage could also be ‘(in some jurisdictions) a union between partners of the same sex’.

vanitty: @ ola one : please do they get charged for their fans using the road?
No. However, you and I know that every weekend, you need extra police officers, road safety officers, Civil Defense personnel, maybe LASMA, YES O, O'YES, etc, on that road. These people are being paid by tax payers, yet, they get drafted to this road in large numbers to sort out the mess emanating from the activities of these organizations. Why? Why do I have to contribute in form of taxes to help things go smoothly for these organizations? Hence the need for them to pay levies. Same for clubs like Chelsea, Man U, etc.
What is my business in their business? Abeg, make dem pay jare.
Please shut up with this government excuse.. angry

Do these churches pay taxes?! So we should use tax payers money to build a 10 lane road to accomodate entities that make trillions of Naira/Dollars every year without remitting 1 cent to the government. angry

The churches should be held accountable. There is something called social responsibility you know.. The solution is very simple, start by taxing all churches, secondly adjusting the law to remove Churches and places of worship from the 'Charity organization' category and plcae them under a special category where they would be made to pay taxes, forced to pay their organization workers atleast minimum wage and also make them carry out some social responsibility works in the community in which they operate.

Look at Adeboye about to build a 3km lenght/1 billion man capacity church on that same road, do you think that making it a 10-lane road would be able to accomodate the traffic that 1-billion people moving in one direction would cause?!

Please leave the government out of this.. What the government should do really is build a toll plaza on that road.. Yeah!! This would really piss off those churches. By the time their members sleep in traffic for 2 days enroute these churches, attendance would drop automatically.. angry

Or better still, ban roadside parking.. Any car praked on the road would be towed and will only be released for half the value of the car. angry
Weekends only toll will also help. And, make it 5,000 Naira per car sef grin

debosky: @vannity

You're only partly correct. If Rihanna's organisers don't meet the terms of TfL they won't hold their event, e.g. They won't hold such a concert at Wembley the same day Arsenal is playing at the Emirates to avoid congestion.

The churches are not doing enough to alleviate the issues. Simply embarking on expansion putting further pressure on stretched facilities is inconsiderate of other road users. Why dont they influence govt to fix the road? After all they influenced the govt to give them billions in import waivers to import material used to build these same structures.
I don't even think it is possible to have Wembley and any big club in London at the same time. Maybe I'm wrong

pappilo: I donk know what obtains in the US but here in the UK you will hardly find anything situated right on the motorway. Even if it is situated in close proximity to the motorway it will only back up onto the motorway and you will have to take a slip road and still travel many miles before getting to an entrance. On Lagos - Ibadan, the entrance to Redemption camp is right there on the expressway!
Thanks.
Naptu, this is another long-term measure to curb it.

Let them travel miles, close the entrance.
PoliticsRe: Lagos-Ibadan Expressway And The Churches - Joe Igbokwe by Olaone1:
The whole thing is disgusting, really.

In Nigeria, I always try my best to stay in areas where churches and mosques are not in the vicinity. And this sort of areas are usually exclusive which means you have to pay heavily or rely on some breadwinner to provide. It is really crazy. Churches have vigils on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays causing unimaginable discomfort to people. One wonders how their members muster enough energy/strength for their endless services.

Mosques, on their part, are in the habit of blasting AHUJA calling out their followers as if these followers live in some Middle-eastern desert/cave where watches with alarm or phones with alarm have not been invented. I mean it costs peanuts to obtain one of these phones why then do they have to disturb our eardrums every f**king day (early in the morning for that matter)?
Who, in this modern day, needs to be reminded it's 5AM for God's sake? And to think those being reminded of the time of their early prayer sessions are grown a*se adults who should ideally be in the know.

It is horrendous and it is also hard to discus this issue without dissing these religions, trust me.

There needs to be an end to this madness.

vanitty: Crap, please take religion out of this. Useless government we have.

Any time there is a football match, concert or whatever happening lets say for example at Wembley park or race or whatever they dream up, the TFL takes responsibility and ensure there are plans put in place.
Will you tell Rihanna, Chelsea or whoever to arrange alternative transport for their fans!

That is why Nigeria is in that mess it is, the responsibilities should be put FIRMLY where it belongs. The Government. No two ways about it.

The government knows without fail, that there is always problem on that road every first Friday. WHAT HAVE THEY DONE ABOUT IT?
The road and ensuring the safety of it, is the TOTAL responsibility of the state, afterall the drivers on the said roads are her citizens, even if they don't pay road tax, the stupid amount of money collected by the same government (police) says something!

The organisations are already there, they paid for that rights, They are not "renting" so can't be chased away like KICC and the likes. They may be their forever and a day!

Any solution offered by any organisation on that expressway that paid for the right to be there is totally out of goodwill.
They get charged. Chelsea, for example, pay heavily for policing. And, the government/police still complain that the money is not adequate.
I don't think the current structure at redemption camp is exactly what is was when they got planning/ building permission.
So those saying the town planning authorities are to blame should first find out the original plan submitted by the RCCG
You are right. They just keep expanding the place.
PoliticsRe: Lagos-Ibadan Expressway And The Churches - Joe Igbokwe by Olaone1:
pappilo: KICC attempted to set up shop in Dagenham, Essex just off the A13 on Thames Gateway land after they were sent packing from Stratford. Them pursue them quick. The local complained about effects on their lives and they were refused planning permission. Now they are based in the middle of nowhere in Chatham where they cant disrupt peoples lives.

In countries where things are done with sense, if your proposed business, new housing development, place of worship e.t.c is going to affect the lives of the local population, the developer is compelled to contribute a significant amount to the improvement of transport links, health centres e.t.c

For example, In Shepherds Bush, London, Westfield invested £200 million out of a total £1.7 billion project cost on transport improvements in the local area delivering a brand new Tube and Overground station.
But, we have to understand something here: religion is BIG in Nigeria and government/council officials are scared stiff.

In the same UK you mentioned, local authorities/police don't allow the following to happen for fear of traffic obstruction/gridlock:
Arsenal and Tottenham Hortspur are NOT allowed to have their home games same day/time.
Chelsea and Fulham are also not allowed.

West Ham record about 24,000 or thereabouts attendance per game, and the entire area is always chaotic every time they have a home game. I mean just 24,000 oo! This is despite the excellent transport facilities in London. In fact, West Ham charge fans heavily just to park their cars and this is done just to discourage them from coming to these games with vehicles.

By the way, you need to see what normally happens whenever Redeemed bring their Holy Ghost Night to Excel Centre in London. Absolute chaos. Traffic becomes overwhelmed despite London's excellent transport network. Guess what? They (Redeemed) get invoiced for this.

Now imagine a stretch of road where you have Redeemed, Deeper Life, MFM, Nasfat, and many smaller ones with their hundreds of thousands of worshipers. Absolute chaos, I tell you. What is happening on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway is horrendous, shameful and disgraceful. Some of them them even have their services at the same time/weekend. Why?!

No sane nation will allow it. Imagine the stress and depression these places of worship cause Nigerians every weekend.

Something needs to be done.

Fhemmmy: Considerate? you dont think that was considerate, you think some of them cant afford to build such churches in the mainland or the highland Lagos, but they relocate them into the bush of Ibadan - Lagos expressway and yet you want them to be considerate, they are not even building on the highway, are they? in the Bush and you talking of consideration?
Okay. Let's assume they have been very considerate and the government is willing to modernize the road, what about maintenance?

They should be taxed one way or the other. The government must give them flyovers, etc and the government must earn something back. Well, in form of taxes.

Now, imagine the state of things in a country like Naija.
