SportsCould The Bhudda Be Behind Leicester City’s EPL Success? by olaskul(op): 5:18pm On May 02, 2016
The Premier League’s top team, founded in 1884, began the season as relegation, not title contenders.

In fact, they were at the bottom of the league table back around Christmas 2014- one year later, they found themselves at the opposite end and haven’t looked back. It’s literally been like a movie.

Their season has been a true feat of history. In over 100 years of play, they’ve never won the English soccer top flight (the modern Premier League).

They’ve never qualified for the Champions League. Their best English top flight finish was as the 1928-29 season’s runners-up. In a competition bankrolled by billions of dollars in oligarch and financier wealth, little Leicester City, backed by a 330,000-person population, is on the verge of overcoming 5000/1 odds to win the Premier League title.

However, there has been misconceptions on how the Foxes managed to reach this unbelievable position.

At a special shrine surrounded by Buddhist statues and hangings installed by Mr Vichai – the monks, led by ssistant Abbott Phra Prommangkalachan, offer the players what they call “spiritual support”.

That support continues during the team’s away games, such as today’s, when the monks chant and pray for the team at their temple in Bangkok’s Chinatown district, where the Leicester’s billionaire owner has been a devotee for several years.

Nairaland GeneralMide Funmi Martins Allegedly Slept With Her Husband’s Best Friend by olaskul(op): 8:42pm On Apr 19, 2016
This gossip site is claiming that Nollywood actress Mide Funmi Martins who was called out by her fans few days ago for ignoring her husband on his birthday actually cheated on her husband with his best friend in South Africa and the husband found out and moved out of the house. They allege that she also feigned heart attack to get her husband back but the man ignored her completely.

See how they reported it after the cut;

“Close sources to Nollywood movie director Afeez Owo and his wife Mide Martins have revealed what actually led to their breakup.

One of the sources said shortly before her husband moved out of their matrimonial home, Mide traveled to South Africa with one of her friend’s husband, a real estate mogul that was once mentioned on this site.

The source said Mide Martins allegedly slept her way to an endorsement deal that later materialized upon her return to Nigeria.

The man who slept with her confided in a friend who in turn informed her husband.

Another issue that was raised is that Mide Martins’ libido is very high and that their house girl caught her with a man who used to live with the couple sometimes last year.

Though she denied it, her last trip to South Africa reportedly exposed hernumerous‘S3@Xx:’apades’.

Another source said that Mide Martins faked an heart attack episode yesterday and told one of her friends to call her husband to meet her at the hospital but the man never showed up.

Mide has been discharged from the hospital.”

“SHE KNEW ABOUT THE DOCUMENTARY.CHRIS TOLD HER HE WAS CONSIDERING DOING A DOCUMENTARY AND THAT HE WOULD BE TALKING ABOUT THAT NIGHTMARE NIGHT,” AN INSIDER REVEALS.

“AT FIRST, SHE WAS SURPRISED HE WANTED TO GO PUBLIC WITH THIS, SHE CAUTIONED HIM THAT HE HAD TO BE MENTALLY AND EMOTIONALLY PREPARED TO GO BACK AND RELIVE IT. HOWEVER, HE REASSURED HER THAT THIS WAS SOMETHING GOOD, SOMETHING HE WANTED TO DO. SHE SUPPORTED HIM, AND STILL SUPPORTS HIM. SHE’S PROUD OF HOW FAR HE’S COME AND UNDERSTANDS HIS REASON FOR GOING FORWARD, PROTECTING ROYALTY.CHRISHAS HER BLESSINGS,” THE SOURCES  ADDED.

“HAD CHRIS BEEN THE MAN HE IS NOW EIGHT YEARS AGO, RI WOULD STILL BE WITH HIM. IT HASN’T ALWAYS BEEN EASY FOR HIM TO EXPRESS HIS FEELINGS PUBLICLY AND SHE COULDN’T BE PROUDER OF HIM WITH HIS DOCUMENTARY,” ANOTHER SOURCE EXPLAINS.

Nairaland GeneralSaudi Prince Offers Kanye $10m To Spend One Night With Kim Kardashian by olaskul(op): 2:09pm On Mar 18, 2016
The public display by American rapper Kanye West of his financial difficulties, has brought him an unexpected offer from Saudi King Salman’s youthful son and heir, Prince Mohammad: $10 million for the opportunity to spend one night with his wife, reality television star, Kim Kardashian. Kanye West created a worldwide commotion in February, by bash fully announcing on Twitter that he was $53 million in personal debt. The impecunious, he noted, was the result of
following his dreams in the fashion industry.

According to Scoop, the self-designated “greatest artist of all times” publicly solicited the help of Mark Zuckerberg, whom he asked for $1 billion to keep making art. He also said he would be willing to accept money from Google’s Larry Page or any other rich benefactor. No billionaire has answered his plea yet, but the Philadelphia Police has extended a helping hand and offered him a job as a police officer.

The Saudi Defence Minister, Prince Mohamad Bin Salman, made a controversial offer yesterday, during a press conference, that could solve Kanye West’s money problems. The powerful prince, who has an estimated wealth of more than a billion dollars, offered to pay the rapper $10M to spend one night with his wife. “I have no interest whatsoever in his music or his clothing,” Prince Mohamad told reporters, “but his wife, she is a treasure of inestimable value. I would gladly pay $10M or even more to spend one night with her.”

Neither Kanye West nor Kim Kardashian, have reacted to the offer yet, but it has already provoked violent reactions from various feminist organizations. In an interview with CBS, the spokeswoman for the Women’s Liberation Action Network, Jane Austin, called the offer “an insult to women across the world”, saying that it shows how women are still treated as objects is certain parts of the world.

SportsIt Was Scary Meeting Terry, Drogba, Lampard, Others - Mikel by olaskul(op): 8:42pm On Mar 15, 2016
Mikel features in an exclusive interview with Chelsea Magazine

– The Super Eagles midfielder reveals how he was shaking when he met Terry, Lampard, Drogba, and some other Chelsea legends

– Mikel says he loves having the ball

Super Eagles of Nigeria midfielder, John Obi Mikel has recalled his first training at Chelsea Cobham training ground, when he newly joined in the summer of 2006 as a 19-year-old.

In an interview on the latest edition of club magazine, John Mikel Obi, gave an insight into his role on and life off the football field.

Chelsea signs John Obi Mikel just as he clocked 19 in 2006

Approaching his 10th year at Chelsea, Mikel said: “I came into the dressing room that day literally shaking.

“I saw the players that were in there – the likes of John Terry, Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba, Claude Makelele, Geremi, Michael Essien, Michael Ballack, Andriy Shevchenko – it was crazy. And I was just 19.

“I was shaking the whole day because I couldn’t talk to any of them. I didn’t know what to say to guys like that. They were really nice guys, but it was scary. It can be tough coming into a dressing room like that as a younger player. You had to earn the right to be among them.”

Mikel scores his first EPL goal against Fulham in September 2013

Mikel, this season has played a key role in the Blues’ improved form in the new year. Guus Hiddink has spoken about the Chelsea midfielder glowing terms and Mikel is pleased with his role in the team.

“I love doing my defensive duties, but at the same time I love having the ball and always trying to be available so we can play out from the back,’ he said. ‘This is something we’ve talked about, something the manager has stressed – trying to play out from the back so we can always be in control of the game. I think doing this we have much more possession of the ball.

“I like having the ball and making the team play. When I was young, my natural position wasn’t as a defensive midfielder so maybe that gives me a bit of an edge.”

Hiddink charges Mikel on the training ground

Mikel can boast of two Premier League titles, four FA Cups, two League Cups, one FA Community Shield, one UEFA Champions League and one UEFA Europa League in his ten years at Chelsea.

PoliticsBuhari Has Abandoned Governance For Foreign Interest - Fayose by olaskul(op): 4:44pm On Mar 15, 2016
Governor Ayodele Fayose has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to focus on security and economic issues affecting the country

–  The governor alleged President Buhari of insincerity

– He stated that the president has abandoned governance for foreign interests and political persecution

Governor Ayodele Fayose advises President Muhammadu Buhari to focus on national issues

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state has condemned the foreign trips embarked on by President Muhammadu Buhari adding that he should focus on security and economic issues affecting Nigeria.

In a statement issued by his special assistant on public communication and new media, Lere Olayinka, on Tuesday, March 15, Fayose described the President’s condemnation of last Sunday’s terrorist attacks on the Grand Bassam Resort in Cote D’Ivoire as hypocritical and a demonstration of insincerity to the plight of Nigerians.

He stated that it was strange for Buhari to be more concerned with the killing of 16 people in Cote D’Ivoire when the Fulani herdsmen’s murdered over 300 citizens of Nigeria.

He said it was alarming that even when someone of the status of former Senate president, David Mark was attacked by the Fulani herdsmen on Saturday, March 12, when he went on inspection of the eight communities completely destroyed by the Fulani herdsmen, there was no reaction from the President condemning the terror attack.

The statement reads: “If President Buhari could afford to pick his phone and call the Ivorian president, Alassane Ouattara, immediately after the attack, Nigerians must ask the President why he kept mute for days over the Fulani herdsmen massacre of over 300 Agatu people of Benue State, the Mile 12 Lagos killings and wanton destruction of properties among others.”

“From all indications, our President has abandoned governance. The only thing going on in the minds of those running the affairs of this country in Abuja is how to entrench themselves in power by crushing anyone perceived as capable of hindering them.

“That is the reason they are using the Department of State Services (DSS) to harass and intimidate us here in Ekiti, under flimsy excuses like investigation members of the State House of Assembly for alleged forgery of tax certificates when the Ekiti State Government, which issued the certificates have not complained to the DSS that its tax certificates were forged by the lawmakers.

“That is also the reason the President keeps showing his anger against Nnamdi Kanu and his Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) agitators while the same President has failed to approach the economy and insecurity, especially the Fulani herdsmen menace with the same level of anger.

Even when their own Information Minister, Lai Mohammed has told Nigerians that the economy has gone out of the hands of the President, they keep using anti-corruption fight to persecute opposition elements both in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and their own party, All Progressives Congress (APC), forgetting that fighting corruption is not a substitute for putting food on the table of Nigerians.

“The President must therefore be made to realize that Nigerians are suffering, with price of foodstuffs sky rocketing. The economy is in comatose, Boko Haram and Fulani herdsmen are killing people. President Buhari must learn to begin to cry over Nigeria’s problems first before going to other countries to cry over their problems for them.”

PoliticsLate Mr. James Ocholi And His Family Were Murdered Says FRSC Boss by olaskul(op): 6:55am On Mar 12, 2016
New report from the preliminary road traffic investigation into the accident that killed the Late Minster of state for labour, Mr James Ocholi (SAN), his wife and son has brought up curious and indicting revelations.

The Corp Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mr. Boboye Oyeyemi who led the investigation team, told the Federal Executive Council that besides the report that alleged the driver to be over speeding, they found out that the Dunlop tyres on the Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) were wrongly attached to the rim inwardly instead of outwardly.

He noted that the tyres were far from expired.

He added that the vehicle was without a communication link with the ministers pilot vehicle occupant who tired desperately to communicate with the minister's driver through his phone to reduce it's speed.

Oyeyemi, who gave details of the investigations, said the driver who had driven at high speed lost control when the rear tyre of the vehicle they were travelling in burst on the Kaduna-Abuja express way, about 180 kilometres from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Investigation came after a call for an investigation into what has been described as a conspiratorial event by the uncle of the late minister.

He said that the front seat passenger who had seat belts survived and said it was unlikely the late minister and his family at the back seat used seat belts.

He said the drivers details were not registered. On the FRSC database as registered licenced drivers.

He called on president Muhammadu buhari to lead the campaign on road safety.

The Federal Government has announced March 18 for the burial of the late minister.

PoliticsRanking Of Yoruba Monarchs: Awujale Carpets Alake, say Egba Monarch “inexperience by olaskul(op): 5:36pm On Mar 11, 2016
A new rivalry may be brewing among Yoruba traditional rulers if the comments credited to the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, are anything to go by.
The Awujale had yesterday berated the Alake and paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, over his comments on the hierarchy of traditional rulers in Yorubaland.
It would be recalled that Oba Gbadebo had while receiving the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi in his Ake, Abeokuta, Ogun State palace early last month, declared that the Ife monarch is the highest of the five principal traditional rulers in Yorubaland.
The Alake listed the other Obas below the Ooni to include the Alaafin of Oyo and Oba of Benin in second and third positions respectively, in the order of ranking while his own title ranked fourth and the Awujale’s rounding the top five.
But Oba Adetona said that by ranking his (Alake’s) crown above that of the Awujale, Oba Gbadebo demonstrated limited knowledge of the Yoruba traditional system.
The first class traditional ruler made the comment on Thursday during the launch of the endowment fund of Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona Professional Chair in Governance at the Department of Political Science, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State.
Adetona said: “The Alake, while receiving the Ooni at his palace said that Yoruba Obas (the Big Five so to say) had been categorised with the Ooni in the first position followed by the Alaafin, the Oba of Benin, with the Alake coming fourth and the Awujale as the fifth in that order.
“He also went further to quote wrongly from a 1903 Gazette to support all the fallacies in his statement”.
The Awujale said on learning of the statement credited to his Egba counterpart, he called to confirm if he actually made the statement, but that the Alake denied it.
According to him, the refusal of the Alake to publicly deny repeated newspaper reports quoting him as making the statement lent credence to the fact that the statement was rightly credited to him.
“Therefore, I consider it necessary to debunk the aforementioned falsehood and misrepresentation of facts from Ake’s palace so as to put the records straight”, he explained.
“First, I would like to make it abundantly clear that the 1903 Gazette referred to by Alake was just a newspaper publication that he, in his self-serving role is now presenting as an official Government Gazette’.
“The first question to Alake is: who categorised the Yoruba Obas and when? I challenge him to produce the document of the said categorisation.
“It is a known fact that Alake was a junior traditional ruler under the Alaafin at Orile Egba before he fled to Ibadan for refuge as a result of the war then ravaging in Yorubaland.
“Following the defeat of Owu by the Ijebu Army in 1826, the Owus became refugees all over Yorubaland. Some of the Ijebu troops that fought the war proceeded to Ibadan where they met Alake and sacked him, consequently forcing him to seek refuge at Ake in Abeokuta in 1830 where of course, he met the Osile, Olowu, and Agura already settled at Oke-Ona, Owu and Gbagura sections of Abeokuta Township respectively.
“Even then, the Olubara, of Oyo origin had always argued that all the aforementioned four rulers met him in Abeokuta and therefore claimed to be their landlord. To even refer to Alake as ‘Alake of Abeokuta’ not to talk of Egbaland, is a misnomer, as his control since his arrival at Ake in 1830 and till today is restricted to Ake section of Abeokuta. The official Government Gazette testifies to this fact.
“In short, the Alake from history and all available records is a very junior traditional ruler in Yorubaland. His peers in Ijebuland are the Dagburewe of Idowa, Ajalorun of Ijebu-Ife, Akija of Ikija–Ijebu, Olowu of Owu-Ijebu, Oloko of Ijebu-Imushin, Orimolusi of Ijebu-Igbo and Ebumawe of Ago-Iwoye”.
Oba Adetona also recalled that he, the late Alake, Oyebade Lipede and the late Oba Okunade Sijuwade, the Ooni of Ife, at one time sat over the issue with former President Olusegun Obasanjo at Aso Rock, Abuja.
He urged the Alake, as “a young and inexperienced traditional ruler”, to contact Chief Olusegun Obasanjo for proper education so as to save himself and his people from further embarrassment
“It is important for Alake’s education to appreciate that Ijebu has been in existence for almost 1,000 years and that we are the only people that still remain in our original homestead while other Yoruba towns and villages have relocated twice or more”, Mr. Adetona said.
“If only he cares to obtain a copy of the Book: ‘The Ijebu of Yorubaland 1850-1950’ by the late Prof. E. A. Ayandele, that erudite Professor of History and endeavour to read it, there, he will know who the Ijebus are and appreciate that from time immemorial and since our settlement on Ijebu soil, Ijebu was indeed a nation until 1892 when we were defeated in the Magbon War by the British colonial forces.
“Notwithstanding the conquest, our early contact with the expatriates was quite significant and rewarding. It was during this period that our God-given commercial acumen was brought to play, resulting in enormous prosperity for the Ijebus to the envy of our neighbours.
“I hereby strongly admonish Alake to refrain from making such unsavoury, unguarded and unfounded statements, which if not checked, may seriously jeopardise the unity of Yoruba Obas and their people”.

Nairaland GeneralMTN Must Pay N780bn Fine, Reps Insist ■ Says N50bn Part-payment Inadequate by olaskul(op): 5:19pm On Mar 10, 2016
Members of the House of Representatives yesterday said the down payment of N50 billion by MTN Nigeria as a step towards out-of-court settlement of its N780 billion fine was inadequate and the telecommunications firm must be made to pay the total amount to the Nigerian government.

The hard line stance of the House of Representatives came on the heels of the disclosure by President Muhammadu Buhari shortly after a closed door meeting with South African president, Jacob Zuma that MTN Nigeria’s delay to deactivate unregistered SIM cards aided the activities of Boko Haram insurgents in the country.

The Nigerian Communication Commission, NCC, had last October imposed a N1.04 trillion fine on the telecommunications company for failing to deactivate 5.1 million unregistered SIM cards from its network, leading MTN to take the Nigeria government to court despite reducing the fine to N780 billion.

However, the company withdrew the court case it instituted against the Nigerian government and paid N50 billion into government coffers as a sign of “good faith”.

Consequently, during a meeting with NCC over the lingering saga, Chairman of the House Committee on Telecommunication, Rep Saheed Akinade-Fijabi (APC, Oyo) said the company had undermined government’s crusade against insecurity in the country.

He said NCC, as the regulator of the industry, must insist for the full payment, which would then redefine future relationship with the telecom operators for Nigeria’s interest.

“The law is there to serve as deterrent. MTN has been trying to circumvent the process and find a way of running away from the law instead of them facing the music”, he said.

Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Prof Umar Garba Danbatta, had told the lawmakers that the commission was not in custody of the N50 billion payment and was unaware of the account the money was paid into by the MTN.

He said NCC had only received a notification of payment from the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation.
“I do not know the account where the money was paid into. The commission only received a letter from the Attorney-General of the Federation indicating that MTN had paid the amount into the federal government account”, he said
