Attahiru Bafarawa Former governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa, on Sunday visited former President Olusegun Obasanjo to seek his (Obasanjo) blessings over his presidential ambition in 2019. Bafarawa, who led a delegation of his campaign group to Obasanjo in Abeokuta, told the elder statesman that the visit was to seek his “prayers, advice and support”. Bafarawa described Obasanjo as his leader and mentor, attributing his success as Sokoto State governor between 1999 and 2007 to advices from the former president. He explained that based on Obasanjo’s advice on savings, he left about N11.8 billion in Sokoto State treasury when he left office in 2007. The former governor recalled that Obasanjo visited Sokoto State 14 times to commission various projects, adding that he also replicated an all-inclusive government ran by the former president at the Federal level. Bafarawa hailed Obasanjo for his continued interventions at critical stages of the nation’s history, noting that many Nigerians had misunderstood the intentions of the elder statesman. He specifically commended the former president for laying the foundation for the crusade against corruption, saying that nobody can successfully lay claim to fighting corruption without recourse to what Obasanjo had done. Responding, Obasanjo noted that “Nigeria can be better than what it is now” and pledged his support for any step to lift it up. “My own strong belief is that Nigeria deserves better than we have now and we can get better than what we have. “I believe the task of moving Nigeria to an enviable height is a collective responsibility and if we fail to act together as we ought to, the nation will not be where it is supposed to be in 2019,” he said. The former president recalled his role during Nigeria’s civil war between 1966 and 1970 as well as his travail in prison. “I have made sacrifices for Nigeria and will continue to do so,” he said. The elder statesman called for more attention to the welfare of the less-privileged Nigerians and increased educational development, particularly, in the North-East geographical location of the nation to end insurgency. He called for new strategies to fix Nigeria, adding that: “we have continued to tread on the old path”. Obasanjo advised Bafarawa to strengthen the leadership qualities he identified in him (Bafarawa), including humility, diligence, selflessness and openness. The former president also prayed for God’s guidance and support for Bafarawa’s presidential ambition.

By Wale Ajimajasan President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday in Bauchi led the grand campaign rally of the All Progressives Congress in a bid to ensure that the party’s candidate, Honourable Lawal Yahaya Gumau emerges winner at today’s senatorial bye- election. Thousands of Bauchi residents and APC supporters who thronged the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, venue of the rally wore uniforms, vests and caps symbolizing their support for the APC Senatorial candidate. President Buhari, and Adams Oshiomhole In spite of the rain, President Buhari who defied all odds to be in the state, was accompanied by Governor of the state, Mohammed Abubakar, Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano state, Governor Solomon Lalong of Pleateu state, APC National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, National Secretary of APC, Mai Mala Buni, APC Deputy National Chairman, Senator Lawal Shaibu, Zonal APC women leader, Amina Manga and other party chieftains. Buhari appealed to Bauchi electorates to cast their votes for Gumau to secure their future and ensure the development of the state. The president, while addressing a huge crowd of APC supporters, assured the people of the state of more dividends of democracy if they supported Lawal Gumau in the election, adding that he would not field a candidate who would cheat them. “I came here today to seek your support in voting our senatorial candidate, Lawal Yahaya Gumau in the forthcoming election and I want to thank you for coming out in spite of the rain. I will not forget how you supported me in 2015 to collect back the mantle of leadership from the PDP. “We are doing this work because we have the fear of God and love the people. My administration will ensure that we put a stop to corruption, so I want you to support him because Gumau will not bring shame to the party “ he said. Earlier in his address, the All Progressives Congress National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole endorsed Lawal Gumua for the southern senatorial bye-election, saying that the party now enjoyed peace as the troublemakers and thieves had defected to other parties. “We are in Bauchi to show support for our candidate who is a son to President Buhari. We are appealing to you to support Lawal Gumua in the coming election because of his track record of integrity. “ We know that for 16 years, the PDP stole our money, but those who pretended to be part of us are now angry because we have blocked all avenues for them to loot, so they are defecting to other parties. “Because corruption will always fight back, they are doing all they can to stop our president, but we will not let them. Wherever they run to, the long arm of the law will catch up with them” he added.

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has revealed the strategy he will deploy to defeat the Senate President Bukola Saraki, Governor Samuel Ortom and Aminu Tambuwal and others in 2019. The former Edo State governor called on Nigerians to support President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC to remove thieves and looters from the Nigerian system. Oshiomhole was addressing supporters at the Benin Airport on his way to Delta State yesterday, where he maintained that the interest of Nigeria was greater than the sum total of the political parties. “We must engage and engage and pro-attack whether they call me attack dog. I will rather be an attack dog than be a mushroom eater. I asked you to understand that what is at stake is beyond the APC and the PDP. Nigeria is much more than the sum total of all the political parties,” he said. “We will see who is who next year February. In Edo, they made this argument that politics is different from labour, we used labour tactics to humble them and they became converted. Exactly the same way we used it in Edo, we will use it either in Kwara, Benue or Sokoto or anywhere. “Be fair in your reportage, this is not about me, it is not about them, it is about the Nigerian people. For those questioning my choice of style, I will not adopt the ruling class tactics to deal with a cankerworm of disease. I offer different style in order to get different outcome. “We must support the President and the APC to remove all those thieves, all those looters who believe it is their birthright to continue to loot; those who say that their purpose in government is for juicy contracts not for the welfare of the people.” “At this point, I am very clear: we will have to fight odds on the basis of our conviction and we will adjust our style; we will not borrow other people’s style. I am very proud of my working class background and we will bring those values into the leadership and management of the All Progressives Congress. “I assure you that I will work together with our governor and ensure that any error, any concern that you have that they are addressed satisfactorily. “And I want to assure you that the tradition of carrying our people along will be sustained; you represent what I call our infantry division, you are the ones on election day who ensured that our voters come out, you are the ones who ensured that the PDP rigging machine was defeated. We must keep you as a standing force, together we will march on and will ensure that everyone who works is looked after.”

In line with the Federal Government aspiration to diversify the nation’s economy, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has firmed up arrangements with India-based Nagarjuna Group to boost the nation’s agricultural sector through the establishment of a fertilizer plant in Nigeria. The Nagarjuna Fertilizer Project in Nigeria is designed to produce 2.8 metric tonne per annum (MTPA) of Urea and 0.22MTPA of Ammonia and NNPC is billed to take 20% equity in the project and provide the gas feedstock. Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Dr Maikanti Baru Group Managing Director of the State Oil Corporation, Dr. Maikanti Baru, charged members of the Joint Management Committee (JMC) of the Nagarjuna Fertilizer Project to work hard to achieve early Final Investment Decision (FID) for eventual take-off of the project. Speaking recently while inaugurating the JMC made up of members drawn from Nagarjuna Fertilizer and Chemicals Nigeria Limited, a subsidiary of the India-based Nagarjuna Group, and NNPC, Dr Baru noted that the President Muhammadu Buhari administration was keenly interested in diversifying the economy by growing the agricultural sector and that the early take-off of the Nagarjuna Fertilizer Project would be a boost to that aspiration. “It is my expectation that the negotiations with the Financiers and other prospective investors will be concluded in order to meet the FID target of March 2019. With the composition of the Joint Management Committee, I believe the target FID date will be achieved. The key message to the Joint Management Committee therefore is to ensure that we conclude the pre-FID activities in good time to achieve the FID target”, the GMD stated. He said the project was in tandem with the objectives of the Federal Government’s 7-Big Wins and the corporation’s 12-Business Focus Areas to aggressively commercialise the nation’s enormous gas resources through gas-based industrialization and congratulated the Management of Nagarjuna for its tenacity and acquisition of a new project site in the Ikot Abasi Oil and Gas Free Trade Zone. Members of the JMC are: Mr. Kovvuri H. Dharudu, Chairman; Ms. Blessing Arinze (Nagarjuna); Mr. Moses Oladejo (Nagarjuna); NNPC Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Isiaka Abdulrazaq; NNPC Chief Operating Officer, Gas and Power, Engr. Saidu Mohammed; Managing Director, Gas & Power Investment Company (GPIC), Mr. Husaini El-Yakub; and Group General Manager, Corporate Planning & Strategy, Mr. Bala Wunti.

Former Deputy Director of the Buhari Presidential Campaign Council, Engineer Mohammed Lawal has alleged that Senate President, Bukola Saraki was planning to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari. He warned those who think that Buhari was going to succumb to any form of intimidation to perish such thought. According to him, Saraki should have been thrown into jail for allegedly arming robbers, who were involved in the April bank robbery in Offa, Kwara State. Speaking with Sun, Lawal said, “Their grievance is that they wanted to be accommodated, and their grievance is not against the President. For example, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki wanted to be given the entire APC structure in Kwara State, and be given the party ticket and to return as the Senate President. “Saraki is still the Senate President, while Abdulfatah Ahmed is still the governor of Kwara State, there has never been election in the state. They said it that during elections, Saraki shares money to ensure that he and his people win. This is what has been going on in Kwara. As far as he is concerned, he will use money to put his people. “Look at the revelation coming out from the Offa bank robbery incident, where over 30 people were killed. The suspects confessed to the whole world that during elections, Saraki armed and gave them money to ensure his victory and that of his people. “Obasanjo succeeded in undoing Jonathan, but he can never succeed against Buhari, and he knows. We are students of power, and if not because we don’t want Nigerians to say that Buhari is not a democrat, it shouldn’t have been like this. We would have moved against these people. We know that Saraki was planning to impeach the president. The chairman of the party arranged for them to see the president, after they have seen him, he turned back to frustrate the president and to undermine the party, and had already made up his mind on what he was going to do. We will see how far they can go, we have our own plan, and we are in power.” Source: http://dailypost.ng/2018/08/04/saraki-planning-impeach-buhari-mohammed-lawal/

Arsenal manager, Unai Emery has told England forward, Danny Welbeck to leave the club before the transfer window closes. The manager asked the player to leave if he wants because it would be difficult for him to play first team football this season. Welbeck has entered the final year of his contract at the Emirates but has fallen further down the pecking order since the arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The England international has suffered series of injuries since joining the Gunners from Manchester United in 2014 and has failed to start in over 50% of his league matches in each of his four campaigns at the club. The Times, UK, reports that the Gunners are ready to cash in this summer and will consider offers from interested party, Everton. The new Arsenal boss has completed six signings so far this summer but is open to making another as the transfer window enters its final week.
