According to reports, The United States embassy in Abuja and its consulate operation in Lagos have shut down indefinitely.

The shutting down of the US Embassy in Nigeria will affect thousands of Nigerian seeking to apply for their visa or renew their visa, as their appointments would have to be rescheduled.

In a post on its official Facebook page, the embassy said the both offices would re-open once the shutdown is resolved.

The statement read,

'' Due to the current US government shutdown, the American centres located in the embassy, Abuja and Consulate-General, Lagos are unfortunately closed. They will re-open once the US government shutdown is resolved. Sorry for any inconvenience to our valued patrons.”

The executive arm of government led by President Donald Trump and the legislative arm have been at loggerheads for nearly two months over Trump’s attempt to build a wall along the Mexican border.

Building a wall was one of Trump’s major campaign promises as part of efforts to curb illegal migration and crime.

He had boasted during his campaign that the Mexican government would pay for the wall. However, with the refusal of the Mexican government to fund the wall, the President approached the US legislative, asking the bi-cameral institution to provide $5bn which would be used in funding the wall.

The Congress, however, rejected Trump’s proposal. On December 11, Trump held a televised meeting with Speaker-designee, Nancy Pelosi, and Senate Minority Leader, Chuck Schumer, in which he asked them to support $5bn in funding for the border wall.

They refused and Trump said:

“I am proud to shut down the government for border security … I will be the one to shut the government down. I’m not going to blame you for it … I will take the mantle. I will be the one to shut it down.” Three days later, Politico reported that Trump was willing to sign a bill that delayed a government shutdown into 2019 and the new Congress.

On December 19, the Senate unanimously passed a continuing resolution, the Further Additional Continuing Appropriations Act, 2019, lasting until February 8, 2019.

“It’s very possible that this shutdown will go beyond the 28th and into the new Congress,” Mulvaney had told ABC.

Nigeria’s leading opposition party, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has reward the loyalty of their top three contender in the just concluded PDP Presidential Primaries in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State with a return ticket to their present positions.

According to information gathered by GYOnlineNG.COM, disclosed that the likes of Bukola Saraki, Aminu Tambuwal, Rabiu Kwankwanso were gifted tickets for the Sokoto governorship, Kwara Central and Kano Central Senatorial positions respectively.

The tickets were given to them after the names previously listed for the above positions were dropped.

Despite the postponement of the Lagos APC Primary election by the party National Working Committee hours ago, the chairman of All Progressive Congress (APC) Lagos Chapter, Alhaji Tunde Balogun, has declared Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the winner of today’s APC governorship primary in the state.

According to him, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode scored 72,901 votes while Jide Sanwo-Olu got 970,851 thereby making him the winner of the APC primaries which he described as ‘free and fair’.

The chairman of the party in the state, Tunji Balogun made the declaration at the state headquarters of the party in Ogba, Ikeja, on Tuesday night.

Balogun said, ”We were preparing for the election on the 1st of October before the cancellation was announced. The same thing was done again today but we were in the queue for the most part of the day and I have observed that the elections have been free fair and transparent.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flag-bearer in Oyo State for the forthcoming 2019 governorship election in the state, Seyi Makinde, on Monday has allegedly said that the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Ahmed Tinubu, and some businessmen’s interference in the politics of Oyo State had dragged the state backward.

Seyi Makinde who recently emerged as the PDP‘s candidate for the 2019 election, reportedly said that the continued interference of Tinubu & some businessmen’s also occurred during the just concluded APC’s governorship primaries in Oyo.

In a statement issued by the Makinde’s Campaign Office and signed by the media coordinator, Dotun Oyelade, the PDP candidate said it was disrespectful to party members and the Oyo State people for Tinubu to dictate who should rule the state, alleging that the problems Tinubu created in Lagos was still unresolved and festering.

4. Ched Evans

Ched Evans has been to jail and back. Evans was convicted of rape in April 2012 and spent two and a half years in prison. His conviction was however quashed on April 21, 2016, by the Court of Appeal, and a retrial was ordered. On October 14, 2016, he was found not guilty.

5. Karim Benzema and Franck Ribery

Back in 2014, both Ribery, 35, and Benzema, 30, denied knowingly paying for sex with Zahia Dehar when she was under 18. The two narrowly escaped jail term but the issue has actually split the friendship between the footballers.
