I am confused. Do I need to forward my documents to the email stated or do I need to contact the board? Please , guide me.

You don't need to forward your documents to any email address. Apply for the scholarship on the Commonwealth website and then wait for Nigeria's Federal Scholarship Board to announce interview later this year.
Education / Tips for Commonwealth Scholarship Award  —  Damilola Olisa by olida: 11:28am On Oct 13, 2018
Application for Commonwealth 2019 scholarship application has commenced, I decided to write this article to guide all those who will be applying. http://cscuk.dfid.gov.uk/apply/applicants/

The Commonwealth Scholarship is a very competitive fully funded scholarship open to applicants from any of the Commonwealth countries and it is handled by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) in the UK. As long as you are from a Commonwealth country and have not spent more than one year in a developed country, you are eligible to apply. The application requires much time considering the many stages involved; ranging from securing admission for either Master’s or PhD programme in any of the UK universities, applying to your nominating agency for nomination, applying for the scholarship on CSC Electronic Application System (EAS), securing nomination from your nominating agency and lastly securing confirmation of award from the CSC.

In my own case, getting the Commonwealth Scholarship award is more than a dream come true. And I have been getting numerous questions on how I got nominated for the Commonwealth Award by 5 nominating agencies (4 UK Universities and Nigeria’s Federal Scholarship Board FSB) when most applicants often struggle hard to secure even one nomination which is needed to secure the award. Eventually, I settled for Commonwealth Master’s Scholarship award to study MSc Communication for Development at the University of Reading. Meanwhile, I remember that in 2017 when I first applied for Commonwealth Scholarship, I was rejected by all the three universities through which I applied, but the story changed in 2018. My story then revolves around from being rejected in 2017 to securing 5 nominations in 2018. Hence, in this post, I will share some tips with you on how you can win the Commonwealth Scholarship award.

1. Research into the Commonwealth Scholarship

First thing is you need to understand that there are different forms of Commonwealth Scholarship awards. Currently there are more than six kinds of Commonwealth Scholarships and Fellowships. So it is your duty to carefully research into which of the scholarships you are eligible for and fits your career goals. In my own case, I targeted only the Commonwealth Master’s Scholarship (General) and Commonwealth Shared Scholarship because they were the only Commonwealth scholarships for Master’s degree programmes. Similarly, I researched into the nominating agencies and the peculiar requirements for each of them. In all, I will advise you take enough time to look through the official Commonwealth Scholarship website and other blogs for all necessary information you might need about the scholarship.

2. Feel free to get a previous Scholar to mentor you

This actually worked perfectly for me and it was the reason I had multiple nominations from UK universities and even Nigeria’s nominating agency (Federal Scholarship Board). In my preparations for 2018 round of application, I decided to speak with previous Commonwealth Scholars who directed me on how to present better applications. I even went as far as getting copies of their own application in order to proofread and draw ideas for my application. From this exercise, I discovered better ways through which I could improve on my application.

3. Carefully answer your essay questions, especially your home country benefit essay

A number of people have asked me how I was able to get nominated for Master’s degree programmes which were not directly in line with my undergraduate degree. For example, I was nominated for MA Religious Studies and Global Development by University of Leeds despite having my first degree in Mass Communication. The simple secret was I presented unique home country benefit essays which were peculiarly appropriate for each Master’s programme. You need to let your nominating agency and the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission realize what impact you aim to achieve on your home country if offered the scholarship. You should provide facts about a specific problem in your home country which you intend to solve and how you intend to do that. This is very important. You should also provide realistic measures you intend to take to solve the problem using knowledge and skills gathered from studying in the UK and even how you intend to measure your results from time to time. The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission takes this particular essay in high esteem. And this is where most applicants, especially Frist Class holders, miss it. They wrongly believe that having a First Class is the major ticket for getting the Commonwealth Scholarship. Even with a Second Class in your first degree, you can win the scholarship if you present a perfect overall application.

4. Engage in quality volunteering activities, publish academic papers and join professional bodies

During the course of filling your application on the CSC Electronic Application System (EAS), you will discover that there are different sections for all of these. Although they are not compulsory, they are the things that add value and weight to your application. After I realized why my 2017 application was not successful, I channeled efforts towards improving in these areas. I engaged in numerous voluntary activities, published a number of academic journal articles and joined relevant professional bodies in my field and career. In essence, the Commonwealth Scholarship application is what you diligently prepare round the year for. Another round of application for 2019/2020 will open by Oct/Nov 2018, so you must begin your preparations from now.

5. Make your entire application coherent

By ensuring that your application is coherent, I mean let there be logical interconnection with various segments of your EAS application. Your entire application should be targeted at proving that you have the capacity of influencing positive social change using skills and knowledge acquired in the UK upon return to your home country. Each segment of the application should be in tandem with your overall goal. Even if you are applying for a field different from what you studied in your first degree, you can join professional bodies in the new field or take some short courses to prove knowledge in the new field.

In sum, the Commonwealth Scholarship is a life-changing opportunity for you to change your life and as well as your home country. It will influence your career positively. Winning the award totally depends on you. Please note that winning the award is a job on its own and you have to give it your best.

Application for 2019 has now commenced. You can start now!

I uploaded the data page of my international passport during the application. Yet, as has been reported before, it didn't appear. In fact before submitting the application, when the pdf version came up and I didn't see any pictures on the image side, I had hold on submission and went back to the pages to be sure there was no place I skipped where my photo should have been uploaded.

My question is fellow applicants, did your own come up with the data page of your passport or none. If yes, I will know how to attach it on the pdf before printing copies for the interview.

same issue I had. however, I don't think it's advisable one should attach a passport there. I will leave mine blank.

It's can all be attributed to the declining educational sector of the country.
Education / 5 Reasons Most Students Are Not Offered Admission Despite High Post-utme Score by olida: 11:47am On Dec 28, 2015
Most admission seekers are often times left confused trying to get the reason they were not offered admission to the institution of their choice despite having a very high UTME score. At times, having a high Post-UTME is not a guarantee for admission. The following are the reasons students may not be offered admission despite having a high post-UTME score;

1 Wrong UTME combination
This is one of the reasons a number of students lose admission despite beating the post-UTME cut-off point. Even at times, some students are being stripped of their admission or moved to another department during the process of first-year registration simply because of wrong JAMB subject combination. For instance, a student seeking admission to study mass communication would definitely lose the admission if he or she did not take Literature-in-English as part of the four subjects for the UTME exam. Similarly, a student seeking admission to study Physics and Electronics should definitely select Physics as part of his UTME subject combination. Before any student fills his or her JAMB form, he or she should painstakingly go through the JAMB Brochure to know the right subject combination for his or her course of study.

2. University’s catchment area
Most federal universities, including some state universities, still retain the policy of catchment area in selecting students for admission. For instance, UNILAG catchment area constitutes majorly South Western states. What this implies is; prospective students from the South West have higher chances of gaining admission. For example, a prospective student from Osun state who scored 56, applying to study sociology may be offered admission while another student from Imo state who scored 60 may not be offered admission. This is so because if the catchment cut-off point for Osun is 56 while the general cut-off is 62, such a student from Imo state has definitely lost the admission despite having a higher score than his counterpart from the catchment zone. In view of the above, admission seekers should always be aware of a university’s catchment area and requirements before selecting any university.

3. University policy
Despite the general catchment area policy, some universities still have their individual policy they adopt as yardstick in admitting students. Oftentimes, such policies are not made public. It is therefore the duty of admission seekers to find out specific admission policies of their prospective universities from friends schooling in such universities.

4. Low UTME score
Often times, I pity most Jambites who score within the range of 180 and 210 because such scores limit their chances of gaining admission in a situation where they have to compete for the same admission slot with students who score as high as 250 and above. And most universities still compute both UTTME and post-UTME scores in calculating the student’s average score. Hence, having a low UTME score can also hinder one’s opportunity of gaining admission. It is always advisable for students to try to score 250 and above in order to be on a safer side. As a matter of fact, it is very necessary concerning the JAMB policy of redirecting students with lower UTME scores to less-competitive universities.

5. O’level result
I do advise admission seekers to pass ALL the necessary subjects in their O’level exam(s) very well before going ahead to take UTME exam. I have met with lots of students who lost their admission because they did not have at least credit pass in some important subjects in their O’level result. Recently, I met with a student who lost his admission to study medicine at Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye (OOU) because he did not have at least a credit pass in Mathematics in his O’level result. In fact, I felt very sorry for him because gaining admission to study a competitive course such as medicine is not easy.

Feel free to add other reasons

Education / How I Graduated As Best Graduating Student -AAUA Best Graduating Student by olida: 1:50pm On Jan 30, 2015
Fapohunda OluwaSeun, who graduated as the best graduating student with a CGPA of 4.8 at the AAUA 5th Convocation, in this interview with DammyInforms Blog discusses how he was able to achieve the feat.

How do you feel about graduating as the best student?

It pays to serve Jesus! If felt elated graduating as the overall best student in my set from a prestigious citadel of higher learning,Adekunle Ajasin University. Moreover,i was ebullient for the fact that i graduated with the highest CGPA ever in the history of my prestigious department,Biochemistry!

What motivated you to achieve this feat?

It was the promise of my God and the condition He attached to it that motivated me in the first place to be studious. He said, He shall make me the head and not the tail;and above only and never beneath and "Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men".Secondly, coming from from a very humble background where payment of my school fees was only by the grace of God coupled with the help of The Redeemed Christian Church of God Ondo Province 5 and fatherly counsels from my level coordinator and course adviser,Dr J.A. Saliu a deeper life Pastor spurred me to work.I could remember in 2009 when i was to come for the post-UME then, the church had to sponsor me since i could not afford to get my transport fare! My Mum being an industrious caring 'momma' challenged me with her industrious life and motherly heart seeing she prefers going to bed without eating once the children gets something to feed on! I could not afford to let her tears when school fees was not forthcoming to be in vain.My Uncle Agbi Akinyele Michael was always there for me in terms of encouragement, mentoring, prayer and guidance.Besides, going to night class for sleepless night and seeing female colleagues reading all through the night without dozing for a second posed great challenge to me coupled with the motivation i got from from my General Overseer,Pastor E.A.Adeboye who was academically outstanding in his university days and my mentor who also was a first class graduate in his university days and a don,Pastor W.F.Kumuyi.Importantly too,the recompense attached to excellence in AAUA set me on my toes.
Did you work towards graduating as the best student or it was by Providence?

I actually worked hard, studied tirelessly and read with sleepless night incessantly only to graduate with a first class but graduating as the overall best student in my department and AAUA at large was by Providence. There was a time in 200 level second semester to be precise 2011, when examination had to be postponed for a month just because of me,when i was out of school as a result of illness and that i believe certainly could not be done for the child of the VC let alone me.Will i then ascribe the realisation of this "Golden Fleece" to my effort? I am clearly a product of God's grace and mercy!

Can you discuss how your reading method was like on campus?

I start reading and observing night classes from the beginning of each semester after carefully considering the course outline of the semester's course and formulating an elaborate, intricate and carefully planned time table which covers 168 hours in a week.I tried following the time table strictly as much as possible and avoided unnecessary disturbances and encumbrances.I did not have a fixed number of hours for reading daily,i read at every available instances and spent most of my leisure times in the school library. But,at least i read for about 5 hours daily and 12 hours at a stretch during the the week preceding examinations.

Aside academics, what else were you involved in on campus?

Beside my hearty service to God as a worker in the Bible study unit of Redeemed Christian Fellowship AAUA and as an executive in Academic unit in my final year coupled with being an executive in the Biochemistry departmental fellowship (Assistant General Coordinator 1), and being in prayer group with my brethren, Bro Agunbiade Aanu,Amubieya Tosin,Asotun Tolulope,Omoge Bright,Olokose Oluwanisola,Salami Bola,I was not involved in any other activities on campus. A Chemistry course CHM 213, Analytical Chemistry being a broad and voluminous course posed a great challange. But,i took it a day at a time. That is,i studied it virtually everyday and after each lectures. Now that you have graduated, what do you intend to go into? I intend going for my Masters' degree and then my PhD degree and if i get a good job offer,i will take it up!

What's your advice for students who intend to graduate with a first class?

My advice is that regardless of age, status, race, background, circumstances and level,"But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you".Study as if everything depends on you and pray as if everything depends on God.

Politics / Nans Calls For The Removal Of Inec Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega Over Biased by olida: 9:58am On Jan 19, 2015
Read the press statement below:

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) which comprises of over 40.1 million Nigerian students; devoted in rendering positive change, expanding the frontiers of learning and an association which is irrevocably committed to the Nigerian Project and therefore sees a future of endless possibility stretching before us, knowing well that the time is now to shake off our slumber, slough off our fear and pay the good debt we owe the past and future generation, is using this medium, first and foremost, to categorically condemn the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its deliberate omission of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) from the accredited observers recently published by INEC despite the immense contribution of NANS to the advancement of democratic rule in Nigeria since time immemorial.

Furthermore, NANS views this unjust omission as a calculated attempt by INEC to disenfranchise the apex student body from observing the election at close quarters. It is a deliberate move to silence the voice of Nigerian students, who form the bedrock of the future, from being aired at this pivotal stage of our nationhood.

NANS insists on One Man, One Vote, but it is only with credible observers that One Man One Vote will count! After scrutinising the list of accredited observers released by INEC, a total of 88 observers were accredited; 72 locals and 16 international observers. INEC accredited fictitious and non-existence youth groups who have contributed little or nothing to the advancement of democratic rule in this country at the expense of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

In addition, INEC accredited a foreign student body, Africa Students Association of Ireland (ASAI), and didn't deem it fit to approve the request to be accredited as electoral observer submitted by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

In lieu of the above, NANS calls for the immediate removal of the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Attahiru Jega, as the students movement in Nigeria no longer have confidence in his ability to be an unbiased umpire in the forthcoming general election as shown in the biased, fictitious and non-existent groups accredited as observers, at the detriment of genuine, competent and important groups, such as NANS, approved by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) under his watch.

In addition, NANS urges INEC to do all in its capacity as the electoral umpire to rectify this anomaly. We implore INEC to tighten their belt as the election that will determine our fate and destiny in the next four years approaches. In the history of Nigeria, an end must be brought to dysfunctional educational system, comatose healthcare services, anti-democratic practices, bad roads, poor economy.

Political freedom and equality of social justice must be strengthened. It is only a credible election that shall guarantee such benefits of democracy. It is only credible observers that will score the electoral process and the electoral body before, during and after the polls. The scenario of June 12, 1993 General Election which cannot be erased from the minds of the teeming Nigerians should be a lesson to INEC under the present able leadership of Professor Attahiru Jega in ensuring a fair election in February, 2015.

The failure of INEC to conduct a transparent election that illuminates joy in the heart of the populace will mean bringing the four walls of our institutions to the street in serious agitation and confrontation without admitting our feet at the negotiation table. SIGNED: Comrade. Ayenuro Timileyin Gbenga Vice President, (National Affairs) National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS)

Politics / Church Of England Approves Women Bishops by olida: 10:15am On Nov 18, 2014
The Church of England’s General Synod has today
enacted the measure enabling women to be
ordained as Bishops and Justin Welby,
The Archbishop of
Canterbury, said: “today we can begin to
embrace a new way of being the church”.
The formal enactment of the legislation - Amending
Canon 33 - followed the vote on final approval by
the Synod at its meeting in July of this year. Since
that time the legislation has been approved in
Parliament and received Royal Assent.
The final legislative requirements took place during
a session chaired by the Archbishop of York, Dr
John Sentamu , on the first day of the Synod's
meeting in London.
With the Instrument of Enactment having been
read to Synod the motion was put without debate,
with only a simple majority required for approval.
Following the item being passed the legislation
was signed into law by the Archbishops of
Canterbury and York before the whole Synod.
Following the vote Justin Welby, the Archbishop of
Canterbury , said: "Today we can begin to
embrace a new way of being the church and
moving forward
together. We will also continue to seek the
flourishing of the church of those who disagree."
The Diocese of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich was
the last to select a Bishop under the former rules
and there are currently vacancies in: Southwell &
Nottingham, Gloucester, Oxford and Newcastle.
Suffragan (assistant) bishop posts are currently
vacant in Dunwich, Hertford, Hull, Plymouth and
Stockport.
The first women priests were ordained 20 years
ago in 1994 and today make up one third of the
clergy.

Celebrities / PHOTO: World's Tallest Man Meets World's Shortest Man by olida: 8:09am On Nov 18, 2014
One stands as tall as a red British phone booth.
The other is the height of six stacked cans of
baked beans.

On Thursday, for the first time, the man with the
tallest recorded height in the world and the
shortest man in the world met at an event in
London, where
they posed for photos and stretched for an
awkward handshake.

The occasion was the 10th annual Guinness World
Records Day, which celebrates record-setting
achievements around the globe. The Guinness
folks flew the two men, Sultan Kosen of Turkey and
Chandra Bahadur Dangi of Nepal, to London for the
unique photo op.

Kosen, 31, is a part-time farmer who measures 8
feet, 3 inches tall and can reach a basketball hoop
without jumping. He became the world's tallest
living man in 2009, overtaking China's Xi Shun,
who stood a mere 7 feet 9 inches.

Dangi, 74, is just 21½ inches tall and is the
shortest adult human ever verified by Guinness
World Records. A weaver who also helps look after
buffaloes and cows in his remote mountain village
of Reemkholi, he weighs just 32 pounds.
"To be able to finally meet Chandra after all this
time is amazing," Kosen said at the event. "Even
though he is short and I am tall, we have had
similar struggles throughout our lives, and when I
look into

Chandra's eyes, I can see he's a good man."
Kosen also holds the record for largest hands on a
living person. His measure 11.2 inches from the
wrist to the tip of his middle finger. Thousands of
people took part in Guinness World Records
events around the world Thursday, with
records tumbling in Australia, France, Dubai,
China, Germany, Japan, the UK and the United
States. In Shanghai, 388 people went for a record
for the
largest communal breakfast in bed.

Education / AAUA Graduates 6, 341, 26 Bag First Class by olida: 10:15am On Nov 05, 2014
Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, Nigeria, will graduate 6, 341 at the 5th Convocation Ceremony of the institution which will
hold on Thursday 6th and Friday 7th, November, 2014. Of this number, 26 graduands will receive
First Class Degrees.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Femi Mimiko, gave the revelation on Tuesday last week during the Press Conference kick-starting the Convocation
Ceremony.

Prof. Mimiko said, “A total of 6,341 graduands from the 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 sets will be
convocating this year. Faculty of Science with 1,519 has the largest chunk, followed by Social and Management Sciences, Arts, Education and Law in
that order. There are 412 graduands receiving postgraduate degrees, 10 of whom are in the PhD
category.

“Of the two sets, 26 graduated in First Class; 1,414 in Second Class Upper Division; 3,505 in Second
Class Lower Division; 993 in Third Class.

The VC said the 5th Convocation Ceremony was unique in the sense that it coincided with the
University’s Founder’s Day of 15th year
Anniversary, saying, “This is not a coincidence but fallout of a deliberate initiative to institutionalize the
university and put it on a competitive pedestal and it is my hope that this profound tradition of
scholarship shall be sustained here.”
Prof. Mimiko said AAUA would continue to strengthen the integrity and quality of its academic programmes through training and retraining of its
staff and re-inventing and re-engineering of its programmes and emplacement of a broadening research agenda, with a view to churning out globally competitive graduates.

The VC highlighted some of the recent academic and infrastructure landmarks of the university.

He said, “Early this year, the United States
Transparency International Standard, USTIS, after its 2013 school ranking survey, proclaimed AAUA
the Best State University in Nigeria. A graduate of AAUA, Opeyemi Akeem Longe, who made First
Class in Law, the first in the University’s 15-year history, did not only repeat the feat at this year’s
Final Bar Examination of the Nigerian Law School, he is indeed the best result nationally!”

On infrastructural development, he said, “The Visitor to the university, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, inaugurated
six projects during the last convocation ceremony on Friday, March 22, 2013. Between that time and
now, the University has added at least seven other major projects to further tackle the challenge of
space… There is the 30-Classroom Quadrangle; the 500-capacity Nelson Mandela Hall, the Central
Research Laboratory Building, the Health Centre Building, and the Eastern Campus Gate. Above all,
there is the iconic Senate Building, which is unarguably the most compelling, the biggest and
most modern University Senate building in Nigeria.”

He thanked the Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, for demonstrating genuine interest in
ensuring delivery of quality education in the State.

I'm a 100 level student of mass comm AAUA. AAUA do not officially publicize the post-utme cutoff mark. There will be lots of rumours making d rounding as regards d cutoff mark. Just calm down n believe that you will do your registration Jan/Feb next year. To all mass comm candidates on this thread, i'm really looking forward to seeing you.
