Ahead of the 2020 Edo State governorship election, the Chairman of Ocean Marine Solutions Limited (OMSL), Capt. Hosa Wells Okunbo, has commissioned cultists in the State to commence attacks on innocent people across the state to create an atmosphere of fear in the state.



Special Adviser to Edo State Governor on Media and Communication Strategy, Crusoe Osagie, said, “The Edo State Government has received security reports about the outcome of a nocturnal meeting between Capt. Hosa Okunbo and some cultists in Benin City held on Sunday night.”



He explained that “one of the conclusions reached during the meeting is that the cultists should commence violent attacks on innocent people across the state to create tension and a sense of insecurity in the state.”



Osagie maintained that “The state government has communicated its position to the relevant security agencies in the state to thwart Okunbo’s devilish plot.”

Born 62 years ago in Emu, Esan South-East local government area of the state, the trained journalist is reputed not to have lost any election since he ventured into politics in 1998.



However, it is important at this juncture to give the political and historical background of the PDP leadership in Edo state before the coming of the Aziegbemi era.



Between 2007 and 2008, during the crisis that brought the umbrella party to its knees in Edo state, we could recall that the then chairman, Chief Solomon Aguele was rounding up his tenure as State Chairman when the leadership crisis between the former Governor Prof. Osehreimen Osunbor and the late national leader of the party, Dr. Tony Anenih was heating up the state that saw two congresses producing two different state chairmen, Chief Edward Sadoh for the ‘O’ faction and late Barr. The Ekhabafe Exco was later to be recognised by the party national leaders as well and the then former President, late Musa Yar`Adua and the whole turmoil brought to the abrupt end of the PDP reign in Edo state on November 11, 2008.

The Senate on Tuesday approved President Muhammadu Buhari’s $5.513 billion external loan request to finance the revised 2020 budget. the approval followed the presentation and consideration of the report of the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts, Senator Clifford Odia (Edo Central) by the upper chamber.



Buhari had, in his letter of request, said the $5.513 billion external loans is to enable the Federal Government to fund the 2020 revised budget.

However, the components of the external loan, which is to enable the Federal Government to execute its priority projects and for projects to support state governments in stimulating their economy, which has been adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, was stood down by the Senate due to lack of requisite details.

A lender for the Federal Government’s priority projects as approved by the Senate is the African Development Bank (AfDB) – $125million to strengthen the healthcare system and improve response to COVID-19 and $23 million for financing smallholder farmers to mitigate food security impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
