Not fewer than four members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have been killed by gunmen at a facility operated by the Nigerian subsidary of Italian group Eni.

Reuters quotes local sources and security officials as saying on Wednesday, November 23 that the attack occurred late on Monday, November 21 at an installation at Omoku, near Port Harcourt in River state. A local source also confirmed the nature of the strike by the gunmen. “Dressed in camouflage, they came in a speed boat at about 6:40 pm on Monday, exchanged gunfire with the operatives, leading to the death of four,” the source said, claiming also that some other NSCDC officials were wounded in the attack.

he Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has begun moves to seize properties belonging to former First Lady, Patience Jonathan in all 36 states of the Federation.

The anti-graft agency began the investigation in a bid to gather evidence against her, following the freezing of the $20million traced to her. They have also set up a team of detectives saddled with the responsibility of identifying houses and properties owned by the former First Lady.

The operatives are focusing attention on properties in Lagos, Abuja, Yenagoa and Port Harcourt.

A source said:

It would not be correct to conclude that the commission has halted the investigation into the activities of the former First Lady.
The investigation is progressing and it is being handled by the office of the chairman of the commission.
A team of operatives has been assembled to identify all her properties in the country with a focus on Abuja, Port Harcourt and Yenagoa.
The responsibility of the team is to mark all such properties in preparation for a possible court action.
Meanwhile Justice Babs Kuewumi of a National Federal High Court in Lagos has fixed December 7 to hear a suit filed by Mrs. Jonathan seeking to un-freeze her account.

Mrs. Jonathan’s troubles started when the commission froze the accounts of four companies traced to the Special Adviser to ex-President Jonathan on Domestic Affairs, Waripamowei Dudafa.
The companies; Pluto Property and Investment Company Limited, Seagate Property Development and Investment Company Limited, Trans Ocean Property and Investment Company had a total of $15,591,700 in their accounts.

Tinubu was not at the rally in Akure due to ill health, Governor Simon Lalong reveals – The Plateau state governor says all prominent APC members who failed to attend the rally had offered cogent excuses – Lalong says it is no big deal to not have Tinubu present at certain rallies Governor Lalong said on Monday, November 21, that the South West All Progressives Congress governors who were absent at the Saturday APC Mega Gubernatorial rally in Akure, Ondo, had sent in their apologies and given cogent reasons for their absence.

He said that the national leader of the party, Tinubu, was not at the rally due to ill-health. Lalong, who is the Chairman of Ondo APC Governorship Campaign Council, made this known to State House correspondents after a closed door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The Akure APC rally, which was witnessed by President Muhammadu Buhari, Senate President Bukola Saraki, and other prominent members of the party, was attended by only Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun from the South West. The APC governors from Imo, Kano, Kogi, Jigawa, Nasarawa and Edo states attended the rally. The governors of Lagos, Oyo and Osun states, Mr. Akinwumi Ambode, Sen. Abiola Ajimobi and Mr. Rauf Aregbosola respectively, as well as former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, were also absent at the event.

According to The Punch, Governor Lalong, who was accompanied by the Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr Kayode Fayemi, however, explained that all the prominent APC personalities who failed to attend the rally had offered useful and convincing explanations. He said that the national leader of the party, Tinubu, was not at the rally due to ill-health. He said: “We
explained their absence. They sent in their apologies. You heard what happened there. “As far as we are concerned, the President, who is the leader of the party, was at the rally. The national chairman was also there, as far as we are concerned, everybody was there. “If a leader was not there and he said he was not there because of ill-health, we prayed that God will heal him.” Lalong said he was in the Villa to thank the President for attending the Ondo rally. He said: “We have come to thank the President for going to Ondo for the grand finale rally.’’ Tinubu, who is being addressed as National leader of the APC, had opposed the emergence of Rotimi Akeredolu as APC governorship candidate in Ondo. He, therefore, demanded the resignation of the national chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, whom he said had derailed from the path of progressives. Odigie-Oyegun, however, dismissed the call, saying the party’s primary election was free and fair.

Nigerian Navy Arrests Allen Benson Eedema Again, Keeps him in Incommunicado Detention at Abacha Barracks, Abuja.

Friday, 6.46 pm, NOPRIN received the following text message from Allen Benson Edema from his phone (+234 8039358739) : ‘WE ARE IN NAVAL BASE ABACHA BARR ARRETED FROM NASSEM’
Later that same day, NOPRIN received further SOS from members of the Nigeria Merchant Navy, Coast Guard, Seafarers, Maritime Petroleum Security and Safety Corps of the arrest of their DG Commandant Allen Benson Edema by operatives of the Nigerian Navy on Friday November 18, 2016.

Naval operatives arrested Edema at the National Assembly premises on his way, with one other member of the NMN, to attend a scheduled meeting with Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and the Senate President Senator Bukola Saraki concerning a NMN pending bill and other issues concerning the maritime sector.
Edema and the other officer of the Nigerian Merchant Navy identified as John Matep were taken to Abacha Barracks, Mogadishu Cantonement where they have been detained incommunicado in a military cell.

The Nigerian Navy is said to have accused Edema of impersonaation (wearing Naval uniform and rank), which his members have denied.
All efforts by Edema’s members as well as attempts by his wife to see him and to give him food have been rebuffed by officers of the navy unit at Abacha barracks Abuja.
Edema’s wife said she went to Abacha Barracks on Saturday morning to see her husband and to give him food, but she was detained with her eleven-month old baby. She said the naval officers told her that the order for her husband’s detention came from the Chief of Naval Staff and that the Commanding Officer, Naval Unit Abuja ordered that anybody who comes to visit or inquire about Edema should be as well arrested and detained. She said she was later released at about 3:30 pm after being threatened and warned never to come back to the barracks to ask about her husband.
She said they later told her that they handed her husband over to the police on the same day they arrested him i.e., Friday 18 Nov 2016. But when she went to Asokoro Police Station, accompanied by some members of the Nigerian Merchant Navy, to enquire about him, the police said the Nigerian Navy did not hand over Edema to them.


Edema’s wife believes that the Navy still have her husband in their custody because, although they claimed that they had handed him over to the police- which the police have denied, she saw her husband’s car at the premises of the Abacha Barracks on that Saturday she went there to see him but got detained for several hours along with her baby.

The standoff between the Nigerian Navy and the Nigerian Merchant Navy under Edema has been lingering since far back 2004, and this has resulted to Edema being arrested, brutalised and detained several times by the Nigerian Navy.
The contentious issues of uniform, rank and impersonation have been at the centre of this standoff. These issues are currently subject of a pending court action in an Abuja High Court which had ordered both parties (the Nigerian Navy and the Nigerian Merchant Navy) to maintain status quo pending the determination of the case.

Members of the Nigerian Merchant Navy believe that in arresting Edema and one of their other members again, the Nigerian Navy have acted in utter disregard aand contempt of the subsisting order of court. They are seriously concerned about the treatment which the Navy maybe subjecting him to, having denied him access to family, legal representation and even food.
They call for his immediate release from unlawful detention and an end to the constant harassment and molestation of Edema and members of the NMN
