I am conflicted about this too.

I grew up in the era where you will be caned in school, and still get caned at home for getting caned in school.

Did the caning work on me?no. It got to a point i looked forward to getting flogged, if i got into trouble.

But things are different now.

As a grown up, i have come to realize that l although the teachers have a very important role to play in a kids life, the more serious issue of physical punishment should be left to the parents.

It is not a miracle it is just bullshit. What's the sense in giving scholarships to those who won't value it and optimize its benefits.

If you pay tuition fee with your hard-earned money and your grades are terrible, how would you appreciate and use a scholarship that was handed to you on a platter of gold?
