Poanan: Is post no debit same as lien? U claim u know but dont know. Some people have been refused cos of this while some were lucky. But a bank statement won't say if an account is on lien or not, except if the request letter from the embassy specifically asks the bank to also confirm that ....I really do doubt if any bank will divulge such info.. anyway we learn everyday would be nice if you can explain further |

Thank you so very much. FutureSenator: Hello Olomojola,
Seems you were not prepared for your interview. There is a thin line between vague responses and wordy responses, you have to find a balance.
Next time, at the point when the officer tries to confirm that you are going for a masters in management - volunteer the full information. Tell him your masters is in Business Analytics and explain like you explained above. When you are asked why you chose a school - you should have very specific and elaborate reasons.
When you walk up to a Visa Officer, there a few honest questions running through his mind. Do you really want to travel for study purposes? How much do you know about your course? Will you return to Nigeria after graduation? How intelligent are you? How are you paying for your trip, or how do you plan to pay?
Depending on your responses and the officer's conviction, your interview can be extremely short or extended. Even though you might not be asked all those questions, prepare to answer them all. It is just like any other exam you wrote in college - based on your preparation, you can estimate a score even before stepping into the hall!
Cheers. |

Dear all, Where a school didn't include the amount for living expenses I.e living expenses is $0 on i-20, can this be problematic at the embassy? |

Damite2ky: Not much of a talker, are you?
in my opinion, your responses were weak.
Try go through this thread from the beginning, you could learn one or two things about responses. These VO's are used to these generic answers.. Why this school/course are the most important questions at the interview.. Take your time to read up the program in that school, you will find something unique, build on it.. |

TWoods: So basically you don't want to go to school, you're simply shopping around to see what gets you a visa. Thanks but I Guess I need to make some clarification. My later admission came with a $4k tuition scholarship after attending my 1st interview, also the CIP code descriptions/content of Applied statistics is distinctively different from the Business analytics CIP code. I have a prior masters in accounting and financial mgt and this course also belongs to same CIP code in my first school. Now, the actual reason why I'm considering using this new course is because I don't know maybe my first refusal was due to the fact that accounting and financial mgt belongs to same CIP code as business analytics. Please note i applied since February ending and only got the admission last Thursday also, both courses will bring me same career outcomes.and yes I'm a genuine student |

PotentialNurse: Your response here should have been “My actual course of study is Business Analytics, but on the i-20 my school code for their business courses for the sevis system is management science”
Your reason here is too vague. You should make two to three sentences why you choose the school. Of all the 2000+ schools in the US what makes the school the one you want to attend and spend all your savings on.
You can add a little “zing” to your response. Probably putting what you do and how long you’ve been doing it, showing how you’ve saved up for this. Thanks much appreciated. |
