Goodday Nairalanders, I have ruminated over this over time before i decided that things should not be swept under the carpet since our president's goal is to fight corruption, Our dear Minister of Power has failed and his failing in the power sector. This is my story, We moved to our uncompleted building in Oct 2015 10 days before the birth of our first child, we were there without electricity for about 4 month, we decided to connect the light, though we were ignorant of what was at stake, at first, AEDC was bringing Bill of 3000+, we will pay and move on since it was reasonable, after they increased their tariff, the bill they brought sky rocket to 5000+ to 9000+, Note that we rearly stay at home, we go out early in the morning and return 7-8 at night, for some time we refuse to pay because the amount they brought was not commensurate with my light consumption. one day before we return from work, our light was disconnected. We refuse to go to AEDC believing they could go to hell. But for the three month we stayed without electricity they were bringing bill, so, we decided that if we continue to stay without light , they will still continue to bring bill. we paid some amount and they connected us, but they were still bringing their outrageous bill. A day came we summoned courage and wrote them stating that the bill they brought was outrageous, they responded by reducing d bill by 1000+. so we were adviced to register for meter since we don't stay at home, we would have gone through the back door at that time because our outstanding bill stood at 70000+, we asked ourselves how are we going to pay this accumulated bill. we decided that getting a meter is worthwhile. we borrowed money and registered for meter four months ago in which we were told that after 3month, we will get a meter. Though we were not billed during this time of waiting so that we can clear our outstanding bill. The problem is this, Last month before we return from work, they had come to disconnect our light. we were there for one week before salary came and we paid. When i got to AEDC, i was directed to a woman, i laid my complain, she advised we wait for meter. i told her i have applied 3 month ago. i went back to meet the person that directed me to her, in confident she told me i should go back and meet her that shes in charge and she showed my some bills that these bills have paid them 10,000 so that when the meter come, they will first settle them ( but in my mind i know they have some meter that are suppose to have been distributed somewhere). i went back to meet the woman and asked her what she can do for me. she told me the same thing the other person told me that except i can go and get 10,000 so that she could get the meter for me. i was mad, i asked her what will happen to my outstanding of 20000+ she said, you will pay now. This is the same woman i met one day will Large Milo and Peak milk in the office ( i thought to myself, if this woman has this big provisions in the office, God knows the one she will have at home) feasting on people's sweat. We decided we will get the 10,000 so that they will give us the meter and rest from their incessant embarassment. but i asked myself for how long will Power Holding officials hold an average Nigereians ransom. i can pay, ( by borrowing though, because we are average earners) but some people cannot afford it or probably will pay through thier nose. This is a kind of awareness to the President and our Minister of Power. This corruption In Power Holding has to stop. Help the Masses CC: seun Lalasticlala |
