Prof Gregory Ibe in a statement on Tuesday has commiserated with the Abia state Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu over the death of the State Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Johnson Onuigbo, IgbereTV reports. The Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, in a statement today disclosed that God has shown His faithfulness to the people of the state by sustaining and saving the Governor, Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, IgbereTV report.  Hon. Orji also appreciated God for His goodness to the Governor and people of the State as he prayed for protection and preservation of the Governor. This comes as the Speaker led Members of the 7th Abia State House of Assembly to the Banquet Hall of the Government House to meet with the Governor on Thursday thanking the Almighty God for making the Governor survive the coronavirus disease. The Speaker in his address said: "Members of the 7th Abia State House of Assembly deemed it very fit to come here and see you since your return. "We are here to thank the Almighty God for your safe return to the State. "What happened to you can happen to anybody; the Almighty God will continue to guide and protect you", he said.  The Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon Ifeanyi Uchendu told the Governor that the enemies gathered but they have ended up being scattered. "His Excellency, they gathered but they have scattered", he said. All the Members that accompanied the Speaker to the meeting used few minutes to release prophetic prayers on the Governor while the Member representing Ukwa East State Constituency, Hon Chief Paul Tharibo took the audience on a worship and prayer Session.  The Governor also used the occasion to sign the Revised 2020 Abia State of Nigeria Appropriation Bill which was passed by the House on Wednesday into Law. Gov. Ikpeazu in his response thanked the Speaker and Members of the 7th Abia State House of Assembly for their commitment to the political and socioeconomic stability of the State. "I want to thank you for the very kind words you have volunteered in my favour, especially the prayers that you have all publicly declared in my favour", he started. While it is a good thing to have a month filled with good music, this perhaps will be another period when the fans of the two stars will start their usual argument as to who is greater. Following reports that 5000 Guns were discovered in Mosques in Abia state, the Nigerian Police command in the state has come out to debunk the report and also move for the arrest of the Publisher, IgbereTV reports. The Nigeria Police Force Abia State Command in a statement on Wednesday disclosed that it attention has been drawn to a viral picture showing cache of arms and posts claimed to have been recovered from mosques in Aba and that Hausa/Fulani's offloaded same into a mosque located at Onions Market, Uratta. The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the probe of the Chairman, Five Star Group, Emeka Okonkwo aka E-Money, over his flamboyant lifestyle and flagrant abuse of police escorts, The PUNCH has learnt. Okonkwo, who is the brother to musician, Kingsley Okonkwo aka K-Cee, was said to have drawn the ire of the police boss for using policemen like domestic servants. An order, it was learnt, was immediately issued to the Lagos State Police Command to withdraw the six policemen attached to E-Money. A top police officer said, “We received a signal from the Force headquarters on Monday that the police detail of music executive, E-Money, be immediately withdrawn and an investigation into the man be launched. “The IG was surprised that policemen were attached to him in the first place and were being used like domestic servants, carrying umbrellas, opening doors, and doing menial jobs for him. “The policemen were discovered to be attached to B Operations at the command headquarters and not MOPOL which is the usual practice. So, we have withdrawn his policemen and we are inviting him for questioning. The policemen will also be interrogated.” E-Money, who also claims to be a clearing and forwarding agent, is known for his flamboyant lifestyle. He boasts of two Rolls Royce, two Mercedes Benz G Wagons and other Sports Utility Vehicles worth billions of naira. The socialite is often seen on social media shaking hands with Very Important Persons including governors, senators, monarchs, ministers, and other top government officials. When contacted on the telephone, an associate of E-Money, Chidozie Dike, said he was not aware of the development and he believed it was not true. “I am not aware and I don’t think this is true,” Dike said. The probe into E-Money comes less than a year after that of an Instagram celebrity, Ismaila Mustapha aka Mompha, who was also known to show off his ostentatious lifestyle on social media. The Abia state government has reacted to another alleged extra-judicial killing of a citizen of the state by an arm bearing security agent at Umuikaa junction, Isiala Ngwa South LGA. The state govt described the report as a rude shock as it strongly condemned the acts which has now almost become a regular occurrence in the State. Chief John Okiyi Kalu, Honorable Commssioner for Information, in his statement however, appealed to members of the public to remain calm and not take the laws into their hands. Okiyi Kalu said, "we assure them that no effort will be spared in ensuring that justice is done swiftly. We also strongly urge arm bearing security agents in the state to ensure that they fully follow service guidelines regarding the use of firearms at all times as the state Government will not spare any effort in ensuring full protection of the right to life of our people." Further report disclosed that the state Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has directed the State Commissioner of Police to immediately apprehend the suspect(s) and fully investigate the circumstances leading to the latest unfortunate incident at Umuikaa junction and ensure that justice is done swiftly. Activist urges USA, UK, EU to sanction pro-Social Media Bill Senators A political activist and former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Comrade Timi Frank, on Tuesday urged the diplomatic community to blacklist Nigerian Senators backing the passage of the controversial Social Media Bill. Frank specifically urged the authorities of the United States of America (USA), United Kingdom (UK) and European Union (EU) to withdraw and place perpetual visa ban on the Senators and members of their families. He described the Senators as "rubber stamp" who have failed to realize the purpose for which they were elected by Nigerians. In a statement on Wednesday in Abuja, Comrade Frank, threatened to lead a campaign to the US, UK and EU to make sure the Visa ban on the pro-social media bill Senators is effected “until it is withdrawn." According to the Bayelsa-born activist, Nigeria is a democratic country and not a ‘Banana Republic.’ He insisted that the satanic ambition of a few misguided Senators can never drown the voices of over 200 million Nigerians. Frank said: “The Social Media Bill is a satanic plot by the General Muhammadu Buhari’s government in collaboration with his rubber stamp Senate to gag Nigerians and stop them from expressing their views. “The Social Media Bill is a contradiction in terms as the 7th Senate passed the Freedom of Information Bill which the 9th Senate is about to repeal through the back door. "Instead of passing Bills that will help grow our democracy, fight corruption and insecurity, the 9th Senate is more interested in rubber stamping all requests of the executive. "I urge the International Community to place members of the 9th Senate sponsoring or supporting the Social Media Bill on Visa ban, including their families. “Let me place on record that 95 per cent of Nigerians are against the anti social media Bill. “The 9th Senate has failed to concentrate on delivering the dividends of democracy to Nigerians, who elected them to speak for and not against us. "I call on the electorate to vote out every member of this 9th Senate who supports this anti-people Bill in 2023, should they pass the Bill against the will of the people. Forensic audit of NDDC: why MD, Nunieh must not relent, by Timi Frank Political activist and former Deputy National Publicity of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, on Sunday, urged the acting Managing Director of the NIger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Joy Nunieh, not to relent in her efforts to rid the agency of corruption. Frank in a statement in Abuja, also advised the NDDC boss to ensure that the ongoing forensic audit of the organization is taken to its logical conclusion notwithstanding the lies being cooked against her and members of the Interim Management Committee by “corrupt politicians and contractors.” He challenged the “faceless groups” behind insinuations that the MD is parading a ‘fake certificate’ to publish their facts, if any, or stop their blackmail attempt. He added that the MD and the IMC need the support of all, especially critical stakeholders in the region to succeed. Frank said: “It is very sad that Niger Deltans especially some youths in the region have allowed themselves to be misled by corrupt politicians and contractors who have been syphoning the patrimony of the Niger Delta through the NDDC. “These corrupt politicians and contractors are enemies of the Niger Delta, they don’t want change; they want the status quo to remain so they can continue to fritter our wealth away, hence the campaign of calumny against Dr. Joy Nunieh - the acting managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). “They have thrown caution to the wind and are churning out outright lies through their proxies, hoping that their lies will stick in an effort to put a stop to the forensic audit that is being carried out in the NDDC. “Dr. Nunieh must not relent, this forensic audit must be completed and those found wanting must be made to pay the price as a deterrent to others. “These corrupt politicians and contractors whose stock in trade is to get jobs from NDDC and after mobilization, abscond and abandon the project, have tried to compromise her to no avail, they have now resorted to outright propaganda, blackmail and treat to her life, all in a bid to dissuade her from carrying out her mandate. “They claim that her certificate is fake. I challenge these faceless groups that are being sponsored be the enemies of Niger Delta to publish any proof they have against her or forever keep quiet. “I therefore urge the Niger Delta youths, Niger Delta citizens and lovers of Niger Delta to rally round Dr Joy Nunieh and give her all the necessary support to enable her continue to carry out the forensic audit of the NDDC. “This is an opportunity to put the NDDC on the right part so that the average Niger Deltan can benefit from the NDDC as under her leadership, the NDDC will fulfill its mandate to the Niger Delta. He added: “As acting MD NDDC, Dr Joy Nunieh has given scholarship to one child per ward in each of the wards in the whole of the Niger Delta, that translates to over 200 children. “This is the first time that these scholarship is given to the children of the Niger Delta from the ward level and not the children of politicians or highly placed individuals children. “She has done something that her predecessors couldn’t do and will do more, as such should be applauded and encouraged instead of being blackmailed and her life threatened.” He urged the nation’s security agencies not to allow any harm befall the MD while urging President Muhammadu Buhari to give her all the necessary support so she can carry out her mandate, especially the forensic audit. “I also call on all Niger Deltans irrespective of age or party affiliations, especially the Niger Delta senators to sheath their sword, put their personal interests aside and support Dr. Nunieh so that she can do more for the Niger Delta. “The interest of the region is bigger than any personal interest and therefore should be paramount. I also use this opportunity to appeal and call on the uncommon minister of the Niger Delta Ministry, Senator Godswill Akpabio, to support Dr. Nunieh by using his experience to help her achieve the set goals. “I also call on the traditional rulers and the governors of the Niger Delta region to come together and support her laudable ideals that will accelerate the development of the region.
