Nigerian popular politician and two time member of the National Assembly, Dino Melaye on Sunday night was presented with the Man of the year award by a leading online newspaper, Kwararafa Reporters.

According to the statement released by the online news platform, the recognition is aimed at further spurring other Nigerians to engender good governance and ultimately a better society, through diligence, hardwork, personal integrity and leadership as exemplified by Melaye and fellow Awardees.

Present at the event was an aide to President Muhammdu Buhari, Garba Shehu, who presented the award to Melaye.

Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh via her foundation is set to feed 10,000 people in Abuja during the yuletide period.

According to the latest report, the Igbinedion University, Okada yesterday honoured former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and Nollywood actress, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde (MFR) better known as Omosexy with a honourary degrees.

While the former President was conferred with a Honorary Doctor of Science Degree, the Nollywood actress was honoured with a Doctorate of Arts (D.Arts).

Also the management of the school renamed the College of Arts and Social Sciences after former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Following the strike action by staff of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Lautech on the 18th of November, the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has waged in to the situation.

The Governor during a visit to the school met with the striking staff on Tuesday as he called for their cooperation.

He assured them that the Oyo State Government would intervene in the current crisis so that academic activities can resume.

“However, I told them we need their support to implement a lasting solution to the university’s challenges,” he added.

Gov. Makinde also moved for the sole ownership of the school by Oyo State.

He said, “We believe our proposal for sole ownership for LAUTECH is the solution the university needs. I reiterated that this was not a rejection of Osun State people as our brothers and sisters but a pragmatic solution, as Oyo State is financially prepared to shoulder the responsibility.”

Lautech is co-owned by Osun State and Oyo State.

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has assured that the National Assembly will strengthen the nation’s extant laws as they relate to rape.

This, he noted, was with a view to protecting children from sexual and other forms of abuse.

This comes as he called for a change of attitude from Nigerians as it relates to stigmatisation of rape victims.

Senator Omo-Agege stated this in Abuja at the weekend at the official launch of the Campaign Against Rape, organised by the West African Freelance Journalists Association.

The Deputy President of the Senate frowned at situations where stigmatisation is targeted at rape victims instead of the culprits.

Represented by his Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Electronic and New Media, Lara Owoeye-Wise, Omo-Agege said: “I am of the opinion that we should go back to our legal instruments that protect the child from sexual as well as other forms of abuse. This is with a view to strengthening them. And we at the National Assembly are looking at these setbacks, with a view to making our laws more potent.
“We should also, as a matter of national reorientation, have a change of attitude with regards to stigmatising victims of child rape. Let the stigmatisation go to the culprits of child abuse and not the victims, in line with customs of old.
“Further to maintaining our customs, we must return to our most prized heritage as Africans, namely family values. Parents must take out more time to raise their children to be better citizens.
“That way, when they grow up, there are more chances that they will abhor anti-social behaviours. Parents should pay more attention to their children, because a good number of these victims are taken advantage of by some other persons they come to trust, in their search for parental love which their parents, for some reasons, fall short of giving them“.


The lawmaker expressed regret that African women in recent times have been subjected to abuse in various forms namely: forced labour, sexual harassment, rape, wife battery, female genital mutilation, among others.

This, he pointed out, explains why most parents refuse to disclose rape incidents against their female children for fear of victimisation.

“Yet, such non-disclosures most times, do not obviate the psycho-social damage which such predatory acts inflict of the child, sometimes following the victim for the rest of his or her life,” he noted.

The lawmaker representing Delta Central in the National Assembly, justified his decision to remove ‘consent’ from the reintroduced Sexual Harassment in Tertiary Education Institution Bill currently before the Senate.

According to him, ‘consent’ has become an escape route for lecturers who take advantage of female students in tertiary institutions.

He stated: “By knocking off the plea of consent, so-to-speak, sexual predators in our tertiary institutions must now abide by an ‘honour code’, just as applies in the United States which forbids sexual relations between a lecturer and a student under any guise, when the bill eventually becomes law.
“In other words, when the bill becomes law, consent on the side of the victim would be akin to ‘statutory rape’, and with full criminal justice consequences”.

Sponsored by the Deputy President of the Senate and 105 senators, the Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal Of Sexual Harassment in Tertiary Educational Institutions Bill, 2019 scaled through First Reading and Second Reading in the Senate on October 9 and November 6, 2019 respectively.

The proposed law which prohibits any form of sexual relationship between lecturers and their students and prescribes jail term ranging from two to 14 years for various degrees of offences, is currently with the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters for further legislative work.

Popular critic and OAP, Daddy Freeze has thrown his weight behind the judgement of the Court in Abuja that dismissed Busola Dakolo’s rape case against Pastor Abiodun Fatoyinbo of COZA some days ago.

Recall that Busola had claimed Fatoyinbo raped her 20 years ago in Ilorin when she was 16 years old.

However, Freeze stance on the court judgement has earned him some lashing from fans.

He wrote on Instagram, “ Some are saying Biodun is my friend that’s why I am biased. The truth is the truth, no matter what your emotions are seducing your feeble mind into believing.

“ I have always remained on the side of the truth, I do not know either party and I do not have any reason to trust or disbelieve any of them in a clear ‘he said’ ‘she said’ situation, in what seems, in my humble opinion, to be a distorted narrative.

“The burden of proof in a criminal case lies on the accuser; not the accused, that’s the law, if you are unlettered or ignorant of it, how’s that my fault?

“The Nigerian judicial system has issues, but this is not one of them, in my opinion on this highly publicized case, the judge did no wrong.

“Social media largely appeals to emotions and sentiments, where everyone with a phone and some data can become a ‘seasoned analysts’, the legal system however, doesn’t. Those who hate and reject the truth are sons of Satan; the father of all lies.”

DMW record label boss, David Adeleke Davido has dropped the tracklists on his next album, ‘A Good Time’ ahead of the release date.

According to Davido, the new album is expected to be out next week and it would definitely be among the albums that will trend till early next year.

Ngg.ng can confirm that Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari has returned to the country after he cut short his private visit to London.

President Buhari arrived in Nigeria on Friday evening at the Nnamdi Azikwe Airport, Abuja, ahead of his expected date of arrival.

He made his official visit to Saudi Arabia for the Future Investment Initiative FII in Riyadh he made the private visit to London on Nov. 2, and he was initially scheduled to return to Nigeria on Nov. 17.

The All African Music Awards AFRIMA is scheduled to take place on Thursday 21 November by 6pm at the Agege National Stadium, Lagos State, Nigeria.

According to the reports, artistes from the five regions in Africa will perform alongside African artistes in diaspora among others.

The organizers of the event revealed that the Agege National Stadium was chosen as venue in order to give people at the grassroots the opportunity to see their favourite artiste perform live on stage.
