While many football fans especially Arsenal fans expect France international, Arsene Wenger to take up another role aside a job as a coach, he seems adamant to remain in the club management line but he wouldn't be taking up any offer in the English Premier league. Arsene Wenger, who received an award from legends of football last night stated that he has too many links with Arsenal and wouldn't be taken any coaching job in England because of that. The Frenchman during an interview with beIN Sport this week disclosed he had opportunities to coach in the EPL but he added that he is reluctant to take up another job in England. He said, “I’m an Arsenal man and after that I’m a professional. I can’t stop working. ‘I decided to move out of the Premier League because I am too linked with Arsenal. I had opportunities to work in England but I turned them down.” Wenger refused to mention the names of the clubs as he said, “I don’t want to tell you, because there are people in charge and it would unfair to them.” The former Arsenal coach also revealed he is a big supporter of Arsenal Football Club and he is hoping Unai Emery would do better. At the moment Arsenal are seated at the third spot on the EPL table behind Manchester City and Liverpool. cc lalasticlala Mynd44 https://ngg.ng/2019/10/08/why-arsene-wenger-will-not-coach-any-premier-league-club/ |

The Department of State Services (DSS) said it disarmed Faisal Maina, 20, son of the former Chairman, Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), Mr Abdulrasheed Maina, before arresting him and his father. The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the service, Dr Peter Afunanya, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja. He said the suspects were arrested on September 30 at a hotel in Abuja during a combined operation. Afunanya said the arrest followed a request by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to assist in the apprehension of the suspects. “Maina was arrested in company of his 20-year-old son, Faisal Abdulrasheed Maina, who unsuccessfully tried to resist arrest. “The lad even pulled a pistol against the security agents involved in the operation. “Faisal, a final year student at the Canadian University of Dubai, studying Telecoms Engineering was however, disarmed and arrested,” he said. According to him, items recovered from the suspects include a pistol with live ammunition, a bullet proof Range Rover SUV, a BMW Saloon car, foreign currencies, a phantom 7 drone and sensitive documents. Afunanya said suspects and the recovered items would be handed over to the EFCC for further investigations. He said the operation was a result of renewed interagency collaboration among security and law enforcement agencies. The PRO said the service had always subscribed to such collaboration, which was important in national security management. He said the collaboration would be sustained to mitigate the current threats against public safety and national critical assets. https://ngg.ng/2019/10/03/how-abdulrasheed-mainas-son-pulled-pistol-at-dss-efcc-operatives-to-resistfathers-arrest/ |

The lawmakers made the resolution on Thursday in the Red Chamber following the adoption of the Legislative Agenda for the Ninth Senate. They vowed to channel their energy towards strengthening Basic and Technical Education by enhancing oversight on the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), to ensure the implementation of the provisions of the Act. In his remarks, President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, pledged that the upper chamber of the National Assembly would work to reduce the number of out-of-school children across the country. “Today, the education sector suffers a lot,” he was quoted as saying in a statement by his Special Assistant on Press, Ezrel Tabiowo. The Senate President added, “The 11 million or 12 million children out of school – we owe them that responsibility to do something about them, and that is taking us back to the implementation of the Basic Education Act. “How do we ensure that we reduce and eliminate the number of out-of-school children on our street? Whatever name we have to give that programme, we have to do something and government has to take responsibilities.” Senate President Lawan also noted that the government, at the federal and state levels, would have to create some funds to employ and train more teachers. He gave assurance that the lawmakers, on their part, would work assiduously to implement its legislative agenda. The Senate President said, “This legislative agenda is particularly ours. We represent the people, we know their feelings, and we imagine that the legislative perspectives we have here may be slightly different from the executive perspective. “But at the same time, we are going to serve the same people, and that is where the need for us to come together and to reconcile our thinking on taking Nigeria to the next level will be.” https://ngg.ng/2019/09/27/senate-talks-hot-on-how-to-tackle-youth-unemployment-poverty-poor-education/ |

FIFA has agreed steps that will limit the number of players clubs can send out on loan from next season and will also limit the amount of money paid to agents in commissions, world football’s governing body announced on Wednesday. In a statement, FIFA said it had taken “a series of key steps to protect the integrity of the system and prevent abuses” following a meeting of its Stakeholders Committee. From next season, the number of international loans out and in permitted per club will be limited to eight, with that figure dropping progressively to six by the 2022/23 season. The number of players that can be loaned between the same two clubs will be capped at three. However, the cap will only be applied to players aged over 21, or “non club-trained” players aged 21 and under. The measures are aimed at curtailing “abusive and excessive practices”, with FIFA citing the hoarding of players by clubs and the distortion of competition when teams bring in several players on loan from a bigger club with whom they have a close relationship. “Players’ development is suffering as they are moved from one club to another with no clear career plan. The current loan system has facilitated player hoarding with clubs putting numerous players on their books and then loaning them out to other clubs,” FIFA said in a confidential document seen by AFP. The measures appear to be aimed at clubs such as Chelsea, who have habitually had vast numbers of players out on loan in recent seasons. Monaco have as many as 18 players currently loaned out, including seven at Belgian side Cercle Brugge. The recommendations will be endorsed at the upcoming FIFA Council meeting in Shanghai, scheduled for October 24. However, they will not immediately apply to domestic loans, with the document stating that member associations will have three years in order to implement rules on a loan system “in line with FIFA principles”. Meanwhile, in an effort to curb the amount of money going out of the game and into the pockets of agents, FIFA stakeholders also agreed to limit commissions as “conflicts of interest plague football’s transfer system.” As a result, a selling club will not have to pay more than 10 percent of a transfer fee received to an agent acting on their behalf. Agents representing a player will be entitled to a maximum of three percent of that player’s total remuneration and another three percent for representing the buying club. In 2016, Mino Raiola was paid 27 million euros for his role in Paul Pogba’s transfer from Juventus to Manchester United for a then world-record fee of over 100 million euros. The new measures are designed to limit “financial incentive of agents to engineer a possible transfer and to create “more transparent and objective forms of remuneration,” the document stated. “Certain measures will certainly not please some agents, but there was a consensus on these measures and there have been discussions going back more than a year,” a FIFA official told journalists at the organisation’s Zurich headquarters. “This is an important step towards making transfers more moral.” The measures will also be endorsed at the FIFA Council in Shanghai. https://ngg.ng/2019/09/26/fifa-reduces-players-loan-per-club-to-eight-agents-as-player-and-club-reps-for-transfers/ |

Australians living in the home of the country’s parliament will be allowed to grow and possess small amounts of cannabis from next year under a new law passed Wednesday. While the possession of small amounts has been decriminalised in some parts of the country, the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) — home of Canberra, the nation’s capital — is going a step further and will legalise it for personal use. People aged over 18 will be allowed to possess up to 50 grams (1.8 ounces) of cannabis and cultivate two plants — or a maximum of four per household. Chief Minister Andrew Barr said although the territory’s government “does not condone or encourage the recreational use of cannabis or other illicit drugs," it was time to acknowledge that outright prohibition was no longer an effective policy. “There is good evidence from drug law reform around the world that a harm minimisation approach delivers better outcomes both for individuals and communities,” he said in a statement. The change marks the first time it has been fully legalised anywhere in Australia. The federal government, however, has the power to overturn the law — and has done in the past when faced with controversial legalisation passed by Australia’s territories, such as voluntary euthanasia. The new legislation also requires rubber-stamping from the territory’s health minister. Lawyers warned Wednesday that users could still face prosecution as federal laws clash with the ACT’s new legislation. “It creates uncertainty where we don’t seem to have a formal position from the police themselves,” criminal lawyer Michael Kukulies-Smith told the Canberra Times newspaper. Buying and selling the drug will remain illegal in the territory. Australia last year agreed to allow exports of medicinal cannabis, in an effort to boost budding domestic manufacturers and fulfill its aim of becoming a leading global supplier. cc lalasticlala https://ngg.ng/2019/09/25/cannabis-made-legal-in-australian-capital-territory/ |
President Muhammadu Buhari has described failed Process and Industrial Development Limited (P&ID) deal as a cheat to rub Nigeria of money running into billions of dollars. He stated this on Tuesday while addressing world leaders at the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the United States. The President said, “The present Nigerian government is facing the challenges of corruption head-on. “We are giving notice to international criminal groups by the vigorous prosecution of the P&ID scam attempting to cheat Nigeria of billions of dollars". President Buhari decried the activities of organised criminal networks which he said were acting with impunity across international borders. Noting that such crimes present new challenges where only collective action can deliver genuine results, he highlighted the battle against violent extremism, trafficking in people and drugs, corruption among others. The President called on tech companies to live up to their responsibilities and curb the spread of information capable of inciting nations against each other. He recalled the massacre in New Zealand where a lone gunman took the lives of 50 worshippers and similar crimes that were fuelled by social media networks. “Major tech companies must be alive to their responsibilities. They cannot be allowed to continue to facilitate the spread of religious, racist, xenophobic and false messages capable of inciting whole communities against each other, leading to loss of many lives,” President Buhari told the leaders at the summit. Regrettable Signals The Nigerian leader noted that the assembly has the theme, ‘Galvanising multilateral efforts for poverty eradication, quality education, climate action and inclusion.' According to him, the issues are the prime areas calling for collective action which will benefit national and global interests. President Buhari informed the gathering that the world was at a critical juncture as the year marks the first anniversary of the International Day of Multi-lateralism and Diplomacy for Peace. Multi-lateralism symbolised by the UN system, he noted, has brought immense benefits to the people of the world. He added that it has saved lives, prevented wars, restored peace and stability, as well as generated economic and social progress in many countries. The President, however, called the attention of the summit to the alarming rate of poverty in some countries, especially in the African continent. He said, “We must admit that as the world grows richer, there are regrettable signals in the World Economic and Political Order. Millions in Africa and around the world remain in abject poverty. “Furthermore, we are witnessing a backlash against multi-lateralism in the shape of rising tide of racism, xenophobia, resurgent nationalism, populism and tendencies towards protectionism and unilateralism. The pristine principles of the United Nations appear threatened". cc lalasticlala https://ngg.ng/2019/09/25/read-buharis-speech-at-74th-unga-his-speech-about-pid-90bn-fraud/ |
