PoliticsRe: Enugu Assembly Orders EEDC To Leave State Over Crazy Billing by olushowunm(m): 11:20pm On Apr 09, 2017
osahonmk:
Irked by what it called the outrageous billing and epileptic power supply, among other inhuman acts against electricity consumers in the state, the Enugu State House of Assembly on Friday asked the management of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) to shut down its operations and vacate the state.

The lawmakers also asked electricity consumers in the state to stop further payment of over-bloated electricity bills, while asking that a state of emergency be declared in the activities of EEDC.

Other states in the south-east including Abia, Anambra, Enugu and Imo were also asked to take drastic action against the company by declaring state of emergency against them.

They also ordered the chairman of the company, Sir Emeka Ofor, and the managing director to appear before its six-man ad hoc committee to explain the company’s activities in the state.

This came as hundreds of electricity consumers in Enugu state early on Friday staged a protest to the House of Assembly over incessant power outage, outrageous billing, alarming tariff among other forms of alleged exploitative activities of the EEDC.

The protesters who displayed numerous placards with various inscriptions, had called on the lawmakers, to as a matter of urgency intervene on the issue while also demanding for the exit of the EEDC.

They claimed that the company since inception, had continued to make life unbearable for citizens of the state.

In adopting a five-point motion on matter of urgent important moved by Hon. Chinedu Nwamba representing Nsukka East State Constituency at a special sitting of the House, the lawmakers decried the activities of the Distribution Company, noting that rather than make lives meaningful for the people, it had continued to exploit the people.

The House urged the state government to liaise with the National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to validate the quality of the new metres they are currently supplying the public to know if the setting was commensurate with the unit consumption.

They also lamented the discriminatory billing system against Enugu and other states in the south east, adding that while Distribution Companies in Abuja and Lagos were charging less and distributing power, the EEDC had continued to exploit the people with high bills without providing the needed power supply.

Contributing to the motion, the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Donatus Uzogbado said the state was no longer ready to continue with EEDC adding “we have an endemic problem in our hands. The privatisation has become a bigger problem. We’ve entered a one-chance flying vehicle with an unknown destination. The billing system leaves a lot to be desired. I support the call for state of emergency, we don’t need EEDC any more here. I pass vote of no confidence on them”.

Speaking before setting up a six-man ad hoc committee to conduct public hearings in the three senatorial zones of the state, the Speaker, Edward Ubosi described the activities of EEDC as nothing short of “digital fraud”, adding that it had become so bad that electricity bill had become more than house rents.

The six-man ad hoc committee to conduct public hearing is headed by the Deputy Speaker, Uzogbado, with Honourables SKC Ude Okoye, Emeka Ogbuabor, Philip Nnamani, Chuka Eneh and Chinedu Nwamba.

Meanwhile, the spokesman for the protesters, Mr. Eze Ajuluchukwu, said we” are tired of this EDCC mess, and that is why we are calling on members of the Enugu state House of Assembly to rise up and do something about this ugly issue.

Eze, who described EDDC as an anti-human company, stressed that “we are giving them two options, it is either they give us electricity or they leave Enugu state.

The masses according to him, were being exploited on daily basis by EEDC, and by their actions, the company was sabotaging the economic growth of the state.

As at the time of filling this report, the protesters had occupied the Assembly complex, insisting that the State would no longer condone the activities of the EEDC.

The aggrieved electricity consumers equally asked the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency undertake a review of the privatization ‎of the power sector in Nigeria, as the EEDC lacked the capacity to manage electricity distribution in south- East Nigeria.

Some of the placards displayed by the protesters read thus: “EEDC stop defrauding us, pack your load and go” we are tired of irregular billing system”

“Our industries are folding on daily basis because of no power” we cannot take this anymore, Say no to EEDC”

“We can no longer stand and watch EEDC make us poor, they have forced many people out of their businesses” among other placards.

FamilyRe: 17.2% Of My Monthly Salary Goes To My Wife & Yet... by olushowunm(m): 9:07pm On Mar 24, 2017
skypeme:
Dear reasonable people on Nairaland, please I need your advise

My wife whom I love so much and also loves me too is entitled to 17.2% of my monthly income, my salary is 175kpm and she take 17.2% of this amount, yet she feels very uncomfortable with it

I pay the bills, buy food stuff every month and take care of our little baby girl

My baby girl does not take any local food, she takes only fresogold, tea and pap, the cost of fresogold is very high and she can consume 4tins in a month

My wife isn't not working yet she is still schooling and I pay all her fees,

I've never complaint of my duty as the head of the family yet she still feels unsatisfied with the 17.2% I give to her

Her primary duty in the house is to take care of our baby and prepare my dinner every week days and both break fast and dinner during the weekend

Recently I told her to take our baby to the hospital for treatment, our total bill was 11,500 naira but my wife suprisinly told me that the hospital bill is 22,700 naira which I immediately wired to her account

So I called the hospital to make inquiries about the exorbitant bill then I got to know that my wife inflated the hospital bill to 22,700 naira

I confronted her and she spoke to me very rudly I was not happy about this, I kept quite and didn't say anything about it again

I am thinking I should penalize her for her rude behaviour and the dishonesty she has melted on me

Will it be advisable not to pay her her monthly salary for two months ?

Will this correct her brain to default and what would possibly be the implication of doing this ?

She has not apologised and she has not seen anything wrong so far in what she has done
The best way to resolve this is give her Ur payslip and handover all the 175k to her.. So when u r going to work, you ask for fuel money and pocket money.. That way she will know what the family is really worth and plan well well..

Power supply in my area hasn't been friendly at all. From rotating it two days on, one day off, it has become one day on, two days off. Even on the day they should on for us, if PHCN gives light in at least 5hours of that 24hours of that day, glory be to God.

As a fire fighter, I go to work one day, then use two days as my off days. I need rest, but then there is hardly light for one to enjoy himself. My Lumia 540 with 2200mAh battery capacity hardly lasts 20hrs cos I am a heavy user and it takes eternity to charge to full.

I need a phone that can last the two days of my off duty days, please suggest.

FortuneTeller:
I am coming today with tears in my eyes for my little sis. She is kind, sweet, and a very nice young lady. She met a 35 year old man last year who courted her and convinced our family of his sincerity. He is a nice guy and very handsome. They went for medical tests before the marriage and were told everything was fine. They have now been married for 3 months without sex. My sis has cried to me for the past 2 weeks. She says he has tried some herbal supplements and even saw a pastor, but nothing has changed. They did not have sex before marriage, but she says she has seen him with an erection before and after the marriage. However when he is about to insert himself, he loses the stiffness. I don't know what to do. Someone from our area says he is known to visit many prostitutes. I don't believe he is seeing them now because he has been with our family for some time now and even working in the family business. As they have not consummated the marriage, we are thinking of returning the things he bought so she can be free. How can a 35 year old man be impotent?? My sister shall not suffer.
The man is suffering from P. I.E.D..Porn Induced Erectile Dysfunction... He should stay away from porn, masturbation, cold water and sugary things. Then Ur sister should get appealing lingerie and dress to kill. She should just be dressing for him every night. And make him desire her more.. But never allow him to touch her body. He should heal in 90-days to 180-days period.. Ur sister will start noticing his morning tent by 3rd week. But don't Bleep him yet. By the time the de-pornified therapy is complete.. He will be a super stud and be able to go 3hours again. Please for further advice. U can reach me via my whatsapp number below.

sagacious2016:
Please I need expert advice.

Just rented a 10 acre piece of land in Abeokuta but the money the labourers there are charging is exorbitant (18000-20000) per acre. That's about 200,000 naira alone on land clearing. But a friend suggested that I use chemical to clear the land.

So I want to know if it's advisable that I use chemical for land clearing of maize/cassava farm.

Whoever has an idea should please respond.

#Sundayspecialwitholucassava: "The 'K' Factor In Cassava Production"

Cassava as we know it today is an industrial crop with potential to create massive wealth for us here in Nigeria. However, production of cassava in this sphere is still been challenged by low yield which is caused by myriad of factors such as low soil fertility, pests and diseases, and climate variability. One of the key factor that affects cassava yield is what I called "K factor".

Potassium (K) is one of the three essential macronutrients that cassava requires for healthy growth and development and it's mostly ignored by farmers (both old and new generation ones). In fact It plays a critical role in many of its physiological processes, such as water and nutrient uptake, photosynthesis, and protein synthesis. In Thailand, they put careful planning into their cassava production and thus they achieve about 60 to 80 tons per hectare yield on most of their variety.

In cassava, "K" is particularly important for root growth and development, as well as for starch accumulation in cassava roots.

The "K factor" in cassava production refers to the level of available potassium in the soil, which can influence plant growth, yield, and quality. When "K" is deficient, cassava plants may exhibit symptoms such as stunted growth, yellowing of leaves, and low root yield. On the other hand, when "K" is sufficiently available, cassava plants can produce larger and healthier roots, with higher starch content and better resistance to pests and diseases.

Several factors can affect the availability of "K" in the soil, including soil texture, pH, organic matter content, and soil moisture. Sandy soils, for example, tend to have lower "K" retention capacity than clay soils, which can result in leaching of K and reduced plant uptake. Similarly, acidic soils with pH below 5.5 may have low K availability, as "K" ions are more likely to be bound to soil particles or lost through erosion. High levels of soil organic matter and good soil moisture can help improve "K" availability, as they promote K release from organic matter decomposition and mineral weathering.

"K" deficiency can have a significant economic impact on cassava production. The cost of "K" deficiency in cassava production can be seen in several ways. First, K deficiency can lead to a reduction in cassava yield. The yield losses can range from 10-60%, depending on the severity of "K" deficiency, soil type, and other environmental factors. For example an hectare of cassava farm that is to yield average of 30 tons is already reduced to about 15tons if 50% case of "K" deficiency is present, which means if cassava is to be sold at N30,000 per ton You will have lost N450,000 on each hectare of cassava planted. The lower yield will result in reduced income for farmers as stated above, and it can also contribute to food insecurity in the country.

Second, "K" deficiency can also impact the quality of cassava roots. Cassava roots with low "K" content may have lower starch content, making them less desirable for processing into food products such as cassava flour, starch, or chips. This can reduce the market value of cassava and result in lower prices for farmers.

Third, "K" deficiency can increase the susceptibility of cassava plants to pests and diseases, such as cassava mosaic disease, cassava brown streak disease, and mealybugs. The pest and disease infestation can further reduce cassava yields and quality, resulting in additional economic losses for farmers.

Overall, the cost of "K" deficiency in cassava production can be significant, with estimates suggesting losses of up to 60% of potential yield.

To ensure optimal "K" levels in cassava production, farmers can adopt several strategies, including soil testing, fertilizer application, and crop rotation. Soil testing is the first step in determining the overall status of the soil, measuring the macronutrients and micronutrients levels, which will allow determine the appropriate fertilizer rate. Depending on the soil test results, farmers may need to apply K fertilizer in the form of potassium chloride (KCl) and potassium sulfate (K2SO4) popularly called Muriate of Potash (MOP) in Nigeria, or other K-containing fertilizers like NPK 15-15-15 or NPK 20-10-10. Though "K" blend in this is minimal. It is also important to note that excessive K application can lead to nutrient imbalances, as well as environmental pollution from fertilizer runoff due to erosion.

Crop rotation can also help improve "K" availability in the soil, as different crops have varying "K" requirements and uptake patterns. Legume crops, for example, can fix atmospheric nitrogen and improve soil fertility, which can benefit cassava growth and yield. Additionally, intercropping cassava with legumes or other crops can help reduce soil erosion and enhance nutrient cycling, as well as provide diversification and risk management for farmers.

The timing of potassium (K) application to cassava can have a significant impact on crop yield and quality. In general, "K" fertilizer should be applied at different growth stages of the cassava plant to ensure optimal nutrient uptake and utilization.

The first application of "K" fertilizer is typically recommended at planting or shortly after planting. This helps to provide a sufficient supply of K to support early root and shoot growth and development. The amount of "K" fertilizer applied at planting may vary depending on soil test results and the specific nutrient requirements of the cassava variety being grown.

The second application of "K" fertilizer is usually done around 2 to 3 months after planting, when the cassava plants have reached the vegetative growth stage. At this stage, cassava plants require a significant amount of K for the formation and development of tuberous roots. A split application approach, where K fertilizer is applied in two or more applications, is often recommended to ensure a consistent supply of K throughout the growing season.

The final application of K fertilizer may be done during the early stages of root maturity, typically around 6-7months after planting. This helps to ensure that the cassava plants have sufficient K reserves to support the final stages of root growth and starch accumulation.

It is important to note that the timing and rate of "K" fertilizer application may vary depending on the soil type, climatic conditions, and cassava variety being grown. Therefore, farmers are encouraged to consult with agronomists for specific recommendations on K fertilizer management practices that are appropriate for their climatic and farming conditions.

In conclusion, it is clear that "K factor" is a critical component of cassava production, as it affects its growth, yield, and quality. Applying "K" fertilizer at the right time and rate is crucial for optimal cassava growth, development, and yield. By adopting appropriate K management practices, farmers can ensure a sufficient supply of K to support the growth and development of cassava plants throughout the growing season, resulting in higher yields and better quality roots
By ensuring optimal "K" levels in cassava production, farmers can increase their yields and incomes, while also contributing to food security and sustainable agriculture.
