Oluwa18: Good evening my people. I used to be a very active member of this thread 10 years ago . Was active until COVID time but lost access to my original account. Infact, I was one of the most active here then. We used to have this person from the consulate that helped with Q&A. We used to have a thread that was strictly for immigrants visa shenanigan. I don’t know if the thread still exist. I did my spouse immigrant visa 2011.
I have a small DILEMMA and need some help . I have kinda lost touch on the current policies AND updates as it pertains to immigrant visa . A lot have changed the past few years.
In 2016, my parents came to US on visiting visa. My dad was retired and my mom headmistress. My mom stayed for 1 month then and went back to Nigeria cos she couldn’t leave her school for too long. My dad stayed back and I ended up filing for AOS for him to immigrant visa. He got his green card and then got his citizenship in 2023.
After my mom came back to naija, I filed for immigrant visa for her as I’m a citizen and It was at the NVC stage in Lagos in 2019 when I stopped processing it . All I needed is to renew and update her case every year since then so the case can be active. I write or call nvc to keep the case active. I never submitted docs needed at Lagos to schedule for interview because of some personal issues . Marriage is hard oo. Story for another day . But I didn’t want her to come then. My dad was doing whatever I would have needed help with.
The thing now is, I want to go ahead and submit all the supporting documents needed in Lagos to be able to have her scheduled for interview. What is the CURRENT WAIT TIME for this process? The only thing holding for me to submit this docs is that I am waiting for her to get a new police report .
Secondly, my dad works. He’s been working for 6 years now and pays his taxes diligently . He’s a full time worker and has his citizenship. Is it BEST for him to apply for her but that means that we will start all over again from the scratch.
Any help/input will be well appreciated. Thank you Good evening my people, I logged into ceac for my mom’s petition and her priority date was December 2016. Is this a good or bad thing? Honestly I have lost touch of the process. The AOS and IV are paid. When is likely her interview if I continue and submit all her documents by next week ? Thank you all who are helping

Taal17: Okay so let me say this. You have two options that I can see.
1. Continue with NVC and submit documents so her case can be documentarily qualified. You can check the the ne new Interview scheduling tool on DOS site i.e trave state.gov site. You can indicate the consulate then the visa category.to say where they are are for scheduling interviews that are documented complete aka DQ. Since your mum is IR you don't need the visa bulletin.
2. Your dad can file for her , time line might be the same as yours above
Bonus tip. Either you or Dad can do 1 or 2 above but do Adjustment of status in the US. Get your mum in the US on a visit visa and do the filing in the US. Just tell mommy she could come and visit that's all.
Processing in the US could be done in about 6months.. Adjustment of status for IR is very plausible when done inside the US.
PS you must be an oldie, yes there was an older thread from immigrant visas reference to it is still on Page 1. What was your username, I was on NL during that time especially when Visa officers were fully here with their own QnA threads. Those were the days Thank you . Good to see you around still. Yes, I’m an oldie. I was a pioneer threaadoor on the old NVC threads when we had real NVC workers with answering questions here. This was 2011 to 2017 ish. I stopped being active about 2017. Tbh, a lot have changed here. There was a time I ate and breathed nairaland. It was a tight knit family . That one can’t function without dropping posts and comments here. |

leanonme82: Check the bulletin for where your mums category stands now. Use her priority date to see when it might be her turn to submit documents. This will tell you how long it will take for your current application. Also look at the category your dad would submit under if he's the one applying and look at the priority dates they are currently attending to, and compare.
Once you know the timeline to submit documents for both categories, this can help you guage which will be faster. After being documentarily qualified the rest of the process till the interview is 1 year.
In some cases, the mother-child application is better for interview cos they hardly reject it. But you have to consider your household size and current dependents if you can afford it. I believe the spouse application is faster but might go under more scrutiny at interview.
Compare the pros and cons of both. Thank you . Sounds good . I will check tomoro and keep the threads updated |

Lordcrixus: I think the immigrant visa petition for your mum has likely expired by now, since there has been no follow-up for more than a year. You will need to file a new petition. Your dad can also file a new petition for her, there is no issue with having two petitions running at the same time. Since this is an immediate-family category, the process is faster and usually takes a maximum of about two years. I do follow up every year . Do petition is still active. Just didn’t submit documents and continue processing. |

The petition has not expired. Still active . I said in my post that I write or call nvc every year to keep the petition active |

Hi all,. Please Do we still have US immigration thread?
I can’t find it and needed to follow it.
Please help if you have it.
Also I wanted to ask how long is police certificate valid? My mom had hers in September and I just read it’s only eligible for 3 months but I’m NVC website, they said police certificate is valid for 2 years.
Please what do you advise? She’s processing for immigration visa. Thank you |

Bobomaigida: Hi Oluwa18,
It is not too early to start processing your SP for Fall resumption, infact the earlier the better. What you should be more concerned about and is your home ties which you have to prove and since you are based in Cyprus now, you need to think of ways to prove your home tie.
All the best Well, I’m in Cyprus already. I can prove home ties to Nigeria. Would I need to come to back to Nigeria for police character report? |

I have a unique situation.
Firstly, for someone with an admission letter from a Canadian school , is it late to start visa processing now?
I’m not sure of the timeline of how things should progress for a diploma admission slated for September. Please help .
Also, already in Cyprus for school. Got admission in Cyprus 2 months ago for a diploma program and left but would prefer Canada.
Is being a student in Cyprus going to help with Canadian visa in any way possible?
Thank you so much in advance. |

Hugzzz: PPR issued some few minutes ago. All i could think about was to tell you nairalanders. As a matter of fact, i had to quickly join nairaland just to let you know that its not time to give up. I have been a nairaland addict for a while but just never joined. I feel I owe it to this family to testify and to encourage someone that "what God cannot do does not exist".
I give all glory to God.
Application - May 16th
Correspondence letter - Sep 28 PPR - Sep 28th
Course - 2 years diploma (Post secondary school) Age - 36 Self sponsored
Anyways, I got admission to go for PGCE @ Oxford University in Uk in July but I declined and kept hoping and clinging on to that good news people posted. A number of people felt I was in sane not to have grabbed it but well, it's not about schooling but about relocating permanently as we all want to. Thank God HE turned it all around for me. Thank you all as I read up on how to have hubby and the kids join. May God grant us all our hearts' desire. Amen. Congratulations . I sent you an email. Thank you |

House is almost completed and I’m at a crossroad on the paint to use for it’s exterior. I’m not really a fan of gray color and painter recommended gray because of tile colors. What do you all recommend ? 1 color paint or 2 and what colors? I don’t want a “Shouting color “, I prefer it light/neutral .
Please if you have pictures of your recommended paint color used in houses , I would like to see it.
Thank you in advance

However, No harm in trying if you have all your supporting documentation available. Also it would do more good if you are submitting with mybankstatement and IELTS for NSE.
