Hi all,. Please Do we still have US immigration thread?
I can’t find it and needed to follow it.
Please help if you have it.
Also I wanted to ask how long is police certificate valid? My mom had hers in September and I just read it’s only eligible for 3 months but I’m NVC website, they said police certificate is valid for 2 years.
Please what do you advise? She’s processing for immigration visa. Thank you |

Hi Oluwa18,
It is not too early to start processing your SP for Fall resumption, infact the earlier the better. What you should be more concerned about and is your home ties which you have to prove and since you are based in Cyprus now, you need to think of ways to prove your home tie.
All the best Well, I’m in Cyprus already. I can prove home ties to Nigeria. Would I need to come to back to Nigeria for police character report? |

I have a unique situation.
Firstly, for someone with an admission letter from a Canadian school , is it late to start visa processing now?
I’m not sure of the timeline of how things should progress for a diploma admission slated for September. Please help .
Also, already in Cyprus for school. Got admission in Cyprus 2 months ago for a diploma program and left but would prefer Canada.
Is being a student in Cyprus going to help with Canadian visa in any way possible?
Thank you so much in advance. 1 Like |

Hugzzz: PPR issued some few minutes ago. All i could think about was to tell you nairalanders. As a matter of fact, i had to quickly join nairaland just to let you know that its not time to give up. I have been a nairaland addict for a while but just never joined. I feel I owe it to this family to testify and to encourage someone that "what God cannot do does not exist".
I give all glory to God.
Application - May 16th
Correspondence letter - Sep 28 PPR - Sep 28th
Course - 2 years diploma (Post secondary school) Age - 36 Self sponsored
Anyways, I got admission to go for PGCE @ Oxford University in Uk in July but I declined and kept hoping and clinging on to that good news people posted. A number of people felt I was in sane not to have grabbed it but well, it's not about schooling but about relocating permanently as we all want to. Thank God HE turned it all around for me. Thank you all as I read up on how to have hubby and the kids join. May God grant us all our hearts' desire. Amen. Congratulations . I sent you an email. Thank you |

House is almost completed and I’m at a crossroad on the paint to use for it’s exterior. I’m not really a fan of gray color and painter recommended gray because of tile colors. What do you all recommend ? 1 color paint or 2 and what colors? I don’t want a “Shouting color “, I prefer it light/neutral .
Please if you have pictures of your recommended paint color used in houses , I would like to see it.
Thank you in advance 1 Like |

It's relatively late.
However, No harm in trying if you have all your supporting documentation available. Also it would do more good if you are submitting with mybankstatement and IELTS for NSE.
It's shouldn't pass this June!
Thank you . Please , what is NSE? |

That's why I suggest to people to take the quickest route to permanent residence.
Whatever else you want to do is possible as a PR/citizen.
Everything else na waste of time/money.
What country are you located? |

Apply to Canadian schools for a 2year diploma in either Cyber Security or Big Data Analytics, those are the two courses that will make you earn some of the biggest salaries in the Western World now. 2years diploma in Canada will entitle you to 3years postgraduate work permit. As soon as you complete 1year of employment, you can apply and get permanent residence after which you can proceed to Bsc if you want but this time around, you will pay school fees same as citizen and can even get grant and loan from the govt. Two years after getting permanent residence in Canada starting out as a student, you will qualify and can apply for your citizenship. Apart from the fact that it is cheaper than the UK, it may take you like 10years in the UK before you can get their citizenship Thank you so much poster, Very on point. Thanks for this new insight. Will look more into diplomas |

ephbe: Depending on how ready you are to achieve your dreams, bro nothing will stop you in achieving those dreams if you ready, not even your age.
Do not let nay sayers deprive you of your joy.
Nothing beats schooling in a foreign country provided you are ready to stay there after school. You would have to work out a settlement plan, each country has its own settlement plan so that will be a different topic.
Your age has got nothing to do with you getting admission, whoever says otherwise isnt informed, I am based in the UK, I know what I am saying. What schools are after is paying the fees, fees are very expensive, the cheapest school in the UK for international students charges £12,500, you can do the maths for a 3yrs B.Sc program, also note that I said 3yrs as degree innthe UK is 3 yrs but international requirements to gaining admission isnt about the age, its about qualifications.
If you can raise the funds, you have 2yrs to work on your student visa after schooling in the UK. You will make all money spent within 1yr of working, jobs are plenty in the UK, I repeat, whoever says otherwise isnt informed.
If you can spend the money, you will reap the benefit eventually.
Thank you. You are well informed |

DixiVerita: With that amount of money you have, you can comfortably process an educational visa to German including the €8640 you need blocked for visa application, transportation, applications etc., without even needing money from sponsors and you'll still have more than $3000 remaining to travel with.
German education is free, you'll only be paying about €150 or so per semester as student union fee depending on the university.
For the blocked €8640, the Government pays you back €720 monthly (12 months total - 720 x 12= €8640) for your upkeep. They do that so you have what to rely on for your monthly food, rent, transportation etc. They don't want you to become a nuisance to the society and the Government. In one year you should be able to secure a job and live your life easily.
To learn German language you can download and use an app called Duolingo.
I am not an Immigration Agent, I only know about this because I had done my research. You can search online too to confirm. You don't need to call me for help as well because I have given what I have with my comment.
Best of luck.
Thank you , grateful for your input

cooooooks: Healthcare jobs are in demand throughout the country.
However, software, telecom, draftsman (AutoCAD, Solidworks) jobs are all in demand.
Create a spreadsheet of the jobs you are interested in, then check the job boards (indeed.ca) to see how in-demand those jobs are.
If you move to smaller provinces (NB, NS, PEI, NL) or Regional/Remote Municipalities & Cities (in all provinces except QC), whatever you study is likely in demand.
For bigger provinces like BC/ON, check what your CRS score will be after graduation. https://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/crs-tool.asp
For QC, the bottom line is to learn french when you get here.
I meant you can become a permanent resident (in healthcare (or) in the smaller provinces) within 12 months of graduation. After graduation, you get the Post Graduate Work Permit (PGWP).
Anyways, Canada wants a massive influx of immigrants and PRs over the next 3 years. Just this past Saturday, they invited 20,000+ people to apply for PR. The CRS cutoff score was set so low at 75 (usually the cutoff score is 450) that pretty much everyone with a profile was invited to apply.
So just pick what you want to do that can be done in a 1 year or 2 year course and japa!
Thank you, you know your onions 1 Like |

cooooooks: My advice is:
Take a healthcare related course in Canada, preferably the smaller provinces or smaller regions.
You don't have to study nursing or personal care even though those probably have the best ROI.
E.g: Personal Care course can cost ~ 7,000 CAD or 2 million. So after 8 - 12 months you get work permit. Given the demand for that position and the programs available, you can qualify for PR within your 12 months work visa. So in the end, your total costs will be roughly 4 million (including visa processing, flight, loving expenses) naira. You start working after 8 months, earning the cost within 4 months, apply PR after 12 to 18 months, get it after 24 months.
You can go into non-care health related courses. It is never too late. I knew a guy who was 50 who did a 1 year IT course.
Good luck.
Thank you very much. What non health care related course do you recommend? And when you say “ can get residency with 12 months of work permit “. Do you mean work permit post graduation or work permit that comes with schooling? |

Majorly21:
Follow your dreams, don't let anyone talk you off it. I should advise you to do IT course in Canada uk or Ireland, you can work remotely and be a freelancer while still schooling. But you really need to prepare yourself by taking some online classes on programming and other relative computer classes. ( you can check dis sites "Udacity"Coursera"
You can also look for university in Canada or USA that offer finance degree with more practical than theory... (practical that will teaches you how to trade the currencies, stock, futures, spot market profitably) You can also learn how to trade the financial market before traveling, to make your studies there more easily.
With these two degrees you can choose not to work under anyone or look for work after you through with school.
Any courses that will not add more value to your life and more you to start looking for job after school please stay away from them.
Note well: there is no age discrimination here in Canada when searching for job not like Nigeria.
If your aims goal is to travel out of Nigeria. Look for well educated girl to marry (she will likely have few work experiences) while you take programming classes online that'll certified you by the end of the course. She can apply for the visa duration time probably a year.... you can ask questions on the topic on Canadian threads here on nairaland. Awesome, thank you for the insight 1 Like |

CaseSensitive: I don't know about Canada but as a UK resident, I can give a bit of info. Universities here charge international students circa £13000 per academic year for majority of courses. For physiotherapy course, you're looking at £16000 per academic year in most universities offering the course. 7 million Naira will just about cover your first year tuition for an IT course minus accommodation, transport, feeding, utilities etc which can easily be north of £400/m at your best frugality. So it depends largely on the extent to which your sponsor is willing to flex his/her support muscles. Your courses of choice will normally run for 3 years. Do the maths, make an informed choice. Regarding UK residency, I guess there are different ways to skin a cat. Very informative. Thank you 1 Like |
