Culture / COVID-19: Ooni Ogunwusi Visits Ondo, Donates Fumigation Vehicles (Photos) by Oluwamarc(m): 4:45pm On Apr 30, 2020
Akure- Ooni of Ife, Oba Ogunwusi on Thursday donated two motorised modular fumigators to Ondo State government to help Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in the fight against the ravaging Coronavirus in the state.

Presenting the fumigators to the governor at the Government House ground in Akure, the state capital, the spiritual leader of Yoruba worldwide stated that it became imperative for his to assist the government to check the spread of the pandemic because he didn’t want to be king over dead bodies.

He explained that the drone was meant to fumigate areas not accessible to vehicles, noting that the state government would only use the drone for a period before returning it.

Ooni disclosed that all the fumigators were fabricated locally by an Osun State indigene based in Ondo State, Victor Badejo, and all the materials used for the equipment were sourced locally.

According to Ooni, Nigerians should look at how the citizenry could explore all available resources for the development of the nation after the pandemic is conquered.

After the demonstration of how the fumigator operates, he revealed that the mixtures used for fumigation were put together by Obafemi Awolowo University’s Prof. Olapeju Esima, a World Health Organization (WHO) consultant.

Confirming that the COVID-19 is real, Ooni appealed to Nigerians to adhere strictly to all the precautionary measures being handed down by the government to prevent the spread of the dreadful virus

Appreciating the monarch for the gesture, Governor Akeredolu described Ooni as a great blessing to the nation.

He expressed interest in acquiring more of the locally mortised modular fumigators from the manufacturer.

Meanwhile, the governor disclosed that he was at Shasha market in Akure North Local Government Area of the state on Thursday, expressing his displeasure about noncompliance with the social distancing order by the market women and men.

He, however, said after sensitising the people about the risk of the spread of the pandemic, the Seriki of the market therefore promised to shut down the market, but would henceforth open twice a week to check the spread of the virus.

Politics / Sadiya Umar -Farouq: We Distributed NAFDAC Certified Rice by Oluwamarc(m): 3:50am On Apr 30, 2020
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar -Farouq , on Wednesday insisted that the rice distributed to various states by the Federal Government was certified fit for consumption by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control.
But NAFDAC’ s Director -General , Prof . Mojisola Adeyeye , had said on Tuesday that her agency did not know the status of the 1 ,800 bags of rice given to Oyo State by the Federal Government. This was after Umar -Farouq had announced on Monday that NAFDAC certified the rice .
Adeyeye had explained that NAFDAC was not invited to take samples and conduct consumption fitness test on Oyo rice consignment , a statement that stood at variance with the claims of the Federal Government .
Reacting to NAFDAC DG’ s statement on Wednesday , Umar- Farouq declared that she stood by her earlier statement .
The minister , who stated this while speaking at the daily press briefing by the Presidential Task Force on COVID -19 in Abuja, said NAFDAC and the Nigeria Customs Service should sort out the communication gap.
Umar- Farouq said , “On the statement of NAFDAC , we still stand by what we said because this was what was conveyed to us by Customs .
“ And a certificate was issued stating that the rice given to us was good for human consumption before we flagged off the distribution in Lagos State .
“ We can give you that certificate , maybe by tomorrow or later today . So , the NCS and NAFDAC , I am sure will sort out this communication gap and report back to this platform . ”
When contacted on Wednesday by one of our correspondents , the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Customs Service, Oyo / Osun Area Command , Abdullahi Musa, said senior officials in the Oyo State Ministry of Agriculture inspected the bags of rice and pronounced them good for consumption before they were taken out of the premises of the command .
The Customs spokesman said the Oyo State delegation was led by the Commissioner for Agriculture in the state who was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary in the state ’ s Ministry of Agriculture as well as the Special Adviser to the Governor on Agribusiness .
Asked whether it was true that Customs did not invite NAFDAC officials to inspect the rice given to Oyo , Musa said , “As I stated, if you have seen a high personnel of that type of office from the Ministry of Agriculture led by the commissioner with his team to come and certify, are we saying the office is not up to task ?”
He said there was nothing to suggest that the bags of rice had weevils during the time of inspection and eventual evacuation .
He added that Oyo State was the first to come for the rice and request by its officials to pick from a portion of the store was granted by Customs .
Musa said, “They came with their team to check for themselves to be very sure if the rice was actually good or not . As a matter of fact , they were even the ones that came first and they even requested to be allowed to choose the particular segment where their rice should be taken from and we granted their request as their host . ”

Politics / Covid-19: Fayemi Suspend Aide by Oluwamarc(m): 12:35am On Apr 30, 2020
Ekiti State Government has ordered the suspension of one Sola Durodola indefinitely.

Durodola who is a member of the Covid-19 Task Force was suspended for the incompetence he displayed few days ago as well as his highhandedness.

Roundoffnews gathered that Durodola shot a video where he was making mockery of a father who had come to report his son, for violating the stay at home order.

In the video, Durodola who is not an health official also certified the suspect as free of covid-19 a situation that generated negative reactions.

The statement reads”The attention of the Ekiti State Covid-19 Taskforce has been drawn to a
video clip in circulation where a man refused to allow his son, who just
returned from a trip outside the state, into his house until he had been isolated
for 14 days as stipulated by NCDC protocol for preventing community
spread of COVID-19 in Ekiti State.

“The Task force commends Mr Femi Adeoye, for refusing to cover-up his
son’s travel history and for denying him access into the house without
confirming his COVID-19 status.
Mr Adeoye epitomizes the Ekiti ethos of selflessness, which places greater
premium on the collective good of the society above personal and emotional
considerations. This is the core of the Values Orientation policy of the
Fayemi-led Administration.

“We also consider it necessary to inform members of the public that the
video was recorded about four days ago, by one of the security men attached
to the Fajuyi Pavilion, where the Enforcement Taskforce uses as its base for
coordination of daily operations.
The security man who recorded the encounter is neither a health worker, nor
qualified or authorized to determine the health status of the young man. So,
none of his actions or misstatements reflect the capacity or preparedness of
the State Taskforce to combat the COVID-19 virus.

” The officer in question has been suspended pending further investigations, for acting outside the jurisdiction of his scope of authority.

“Following the encounter, the young man has been in the custody of the State for the past 4 days, and has since been taken to one of the designated quarantine centres, where he would be for 14 days, in line with laid down procedure that dictates that anyone who sneaks into the State, would be quarantined for fourteen (14) days, at their own cost. His samples will also be taken for testing in order to ensure he has not been infected in the course of his travels to high incidence areas of the country.

We implore members of the public to emulate the patriotic zeal of Mr
Adeoye, and promptly report to the Ekiti State Covid-19 Taskforce, any out-
of-State traveler who sneaks into their neighbourhood, or places of abode.
This is to safeguard against the likely health hazard that such returnees
portend for the larger society.

Politics / FG Seeks Jonathan, Diezani’s Foreign Accounts’ Details by Oluwamarc(m): 5:51am On Apr 29, 2020
The Federal Government has asked a court in New York , the United States of America , to compel 10 foreign banks to release to it account details of former President Goodluck Jonathan , his wife , Patience , and the then Minister of Petroleum Resources in his administration , Mrs Diezani Alison -Madueke .
But Jonathan on Tuesday denied owning a foreign bank account .
Bloomberg reports that the banks from whom the Federal Government is seeking the documents include , Citigroup and JPMorgan , as well as the New York branches of Deutsche Bank AG and United Bank for Africa Plc .
The Federal Government’ s request was contained in an application filed at the foreign court on March 24 asking for the bank documents .
The Attorney General of the Federation , Mr Abubakar Malami, is said to have asked for the bank documents in its bid to overturn the P & ID $ 9. 6 bn judgment .
The $ 9. 6 bn award was issued against Nigeria and in favour of P & ID in a January 31 , 2017 ruling of a London arbitration tribunal , which held the Federal Government liable for the breach of a 20 - year gas supply agreement signed in 2010 between P & ID and Nigeria , through the Ministry of Petroleum Resources .
The London Commercial Court in a judgment delivered on August 16 , 2019 gave P & ID a go- ahead to enforce the London arbitration panel ’ s award of the sum of $ 9. 6 bn .
But the Federal Government is seeking to overturn the award .
According to Bloomberg , the Federal Government , is seeking the bank documents to enable it to prove that the $ 9. 6 bn arbitration was obtained by Process and Industrial Development by fraud .
The Federal Government said in the court document that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is probing the roles of two former petroleum ministers , the late Rilwanu Lukman and his successor , Alison -Madueke .
It , however , said it had yet to find “ direct evidence ” that Jonathan , Alison - Madueke and other politicians received payments from P & ID or its affiliates, the country said in its court filings .
But Malami stated in the court document , “There is good reason to believe that ministers at the highest level were involved in a corrupt scheme to steal money from Nigeria. ”
The Federal Government said Lukman , who was then the Minister of Petroleum signed the contract while Alison - Madueke was responsible for the “ flagrant mishandling” of the government ’ s arbitration strategy until 2015 , the country said .
A spokesman for P & ID denied wrongdoing, arguing that Malami has “manufactured a claim of fraud and bribery ” to evade the state ’ s legal obligation to pay what amounts to about 30 % of the country’ s foreign reserves .
Malami’ s application is “nothing but an absurdly overbroad fishing expedition , ” P & ID said in an April 24 court filing .
But Jonathan has however denied having any foreign accounts whose details could be requested for .
In a statement by his spokesman, Ikechukwu Eze , the ex -President said he or his wife was not contacted before the request for the documents was filed by the Federal Government .
Eze stated , “Our attention has been drawn to international media reports to the effect that the Federal Government of Nigeria has subpoenaed bank records for former President Goodluck Jonathan , and his wife , Dame Patience Jonathan in the United States of America .
“ We aver that the Federal Government of Nigeria did not contact Dr Jonathan or his wife before issuing these subpoenas . If they had, we would have advised them of the fact that you cannot subpoena what does not exist . We also remind the public that on March 5, 2014 , during the swearing in of new ministers, then President Jonathan said “I am loyal to Nigeria’ s economy . I don ’ t have accounts or property abroad . ”
“ We are confident in stating that between that time and now, nothing has changed with regards to Dr Goodluck Jonathan . He has no accounts in the United States of America , and encourages US authorities to cooperate fully with the Federal Government of Nigeria’ s subpoena . ”

Politics / Akeredolu Blames Security Agents For Increased COVID-19 Cases by Oluwamarc(m): 6:12am On Apr 28, 2020
ONDO State Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu says recklessness of security agents led to the increased confirmed cases of COVID-19 pandemic to eight in the state.
He made this known at a news briefing on COVID-19 update yesterday in Akure.
The governor explained that the fourth and fifth cases occurred on Saturday, while the sixth, seventh and eighth cases were discovered on Sunday.
“The fourth and fifth cases, who are officers of the Police Command in Lagos State, were clear evidence of panic, disobedience, lack of discretion and reckless disregard for the well-being of others.
“The fourth case, the policeman, resident in Lagos, upon noticing symptoms of the viral infection, reported, got tested at Yaba and was told to wait for his results on April 20.

“On Wednesday, April 22, without his test results and any medical clearance, proceeded on an unfortunate journey to Akure where his family is based and got a message of his positive result on Thursday, April 23.
“He returned to Lagos late Thursday, claimed to have called the health authorities to fetch him for quarantine and treatment, but when they didn’t show up, he came back to Akure on Saturday in company of the fifth case.”
“His health status was discovered and he was immediately taken and placed on admission at our Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) where he is undergoing treatment,” he said.
Akeredolu further explained that the sixth case was a murder suspect arrested in Edo and transferred to Ondo for trial of crime earlier committed in the state.
According to him, the seventh case was a female civilian who sneaked into Ondo from Abuja, while the eighth case was discovered in Owo and samples taken were confirmed positive late last night.

Politics / Re: Be Ready To Pay Higher For Fuel –PPPRA by Oluwamarc(m): 5:58am On Apr 28, 2020
You are the one on cheap drugs.

Politics / Be Ready To Pay Higher For Fuel –PPPRA by Oluwamarc(m): 5:35am On Apr 28, 2020
Nigerians should be ready to pay high or low prices for petrol following the price liberalisation scheme currently in place , the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency said on Monday.
The PPPRA is also engaging with the Central Bank of Nigeria to determine the applicable foreign exchange rates for the importation of petroleum products by oil marketers .
The agency ’ s Executive Secretary , Abdulkadir Saidu , said these while answering questions on the new PMS price regime in Nigeria.
He said , “What we have in place is a market reflective pricing system . Petroleum products prices will be adjusted in line with market realities and the result is what we see presently with prices on the downward slide .
“ Accordingly , price will naturally be adjusted to reflect a true picture of market fundamentals at any particular period , high or low . ”
He , however , noted that efforts were being made to develop alternative fuels to the PMS by deepening the utilisation of Liquefied Petroleum Gas/ Compressed Natural Gas as auto gas in Nigeria.
Saidu said this would come into fruition in the medium term and would help to cushion the effect in case of a situation of high oil price .
On what the PPPRA was doing to ensure that marketers get forex at the official rate to promote price affordability , he said the agency was working with the CBN on this.
Saidu said, “The agency is engaging with the CBN to determine the applicable forex rates for the importation of petroleum products and modality for accessing the applicable forex window by marketers .
“ This rate is reflected on the pricing template to determine the Expected Open Market Price of the product . This means that going forward, the guiding price to be advised will be determined based on the rates quoted by the CBN . ”
The PPPRA boss said the price would guide the sale of the PMS in Nigeria , adding that the agency planned to extend the same pricing mechanism to kerosene , diesel and others .
Saidu noted that the essence of the price band was to ensure price efficiency that would be beneficial to both consumers and oil marketers .
He explained that the market - based pricing regime came into effect on March 19 following government ’ s approval for the adjustment of PMS price from N 145 to N 125 / litre.
“ Going forward, pricing of the PMS will reflect market fundamentals . The PPPRA will continue to monitor price trends and advise monthly guiding price for all petroleum products , based on prevailing market realities and other pricing fundamentals , ” he stated .
Saidu explained that the recent plunge in oil price occasioned by the outbreak of COVID - 19 and slowing global oil demand had a direct bearing on the EOMP of petrol , pushing it to a level below the pump price cap of N 145/ litre.
This , he said , made the government to order the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation to review downward its ex - coastal price of petrol .
Saidu said, “Furthermore , the plunge in global crude prices made it increasingly difficult for government to finance the 2020 national budget as it was predicated on a crude price of $ 57 per barrel .
“ The low crude oil prices, therefore , presented the opportunity to address the lingering challenges associated with the under / over -recovery regime and free up vital funds required to develop other key sectors of the economy . ”
He said the new initiative would also stimulate private investment in the downstream sector and encourage the resumption of products importation by marketers , a development that would revive many dormant depots .
Saidu stated that under the new regime, PPPRA would continue to carry out all its mandates such as determining the pricing policy of petroleum products and regulating the supply and distribution of products .
He expressed optimism that the upcoming Dangote Refinery and other modular refinery projects nationwide would be able to key into the new pricing regime .

Politics / Akeredolu: We Did Not Reject Palliative Rice Sent From The Federal Government by Oluwamarc(m): 5:35pm On Apr 27, 2020
It is pertinent to react to the publication in some national newspapers that the Ondo State Government has rejected the bags of rice supplied to it by the federal government. For the records, the story is untrue and sensational.

At no time did the governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, instructed that the rice, meant to assist the state to combat food insecurity, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, be rejected and returned to Abuja.

On receipt of the items, the Palliative Committee did a random physical inspection on the rice, and discovered that some appear unhealthy for consumption, at least on the face-value, while others look good.

The Committee indeed drew the attention of Mr. Governor to this and pleaded for proper guidance.

While awaiting the thoughts of Mr. Governor, the Committee members met and decided to carry out a comprehensive inspection, to ascertain how many bags have been affected on account of storage. We discovered that less than ten percent of the lot falls into this category, and subsequently separated the few bags.

It is therefore very embarrassing that newspapers will go to town that the State Government has rejected the Federal Government support. The state is rather deeply appreciative of the Federal Government for standing by it in this trying time, and very optimistic that the support will further cushion the effects of hunger on our people.

I want to urge journalists to be painstaking in their assignments, and always put their crave for scoop in check.

“As his subjects, we are glad to receive Kabiyesi the Ooni here at the government house today. We are happy with the fumigators he donated to us, because they will assist us in the fight against COVID-19.

“Kabiyesi came from an enlightened and business background. So, he understands how the economy works and the multiplier effect of things like this. So, I am not surprised at all.” Makinde said.

The Ooni said “We have come to Oyo State to donate two modular fumigators to our forward-looking governor, who we are very pleased with. And we will continue from there.

“Coronavirus knows nobody. It is a leveller and we should all come together to fight it.

“From my business background before I became king, I had a fabricating yard and we came up with a technology of converting liquid to fog and it is very uncommon in Nigeria the way we fumigate. So, we decided to make it 100 per cent home-grown modular fumigator.

“It can be mounted at the back of any truck. We came up together with a lot of youths that are very agile to see how we can look at the opportunity from the disadvantage of the COVID-19 that is all over the world.

“That was why we came up with this initiative that will be useful post-COVID-19. It is useful in construction industry for anti-dust; useful during large gathering because we know our system and culture. We like to gather.”

It will be recalled the Ooni was on Thursday in Osogbo where he donated two fumigators to Governor Isiaka Oyetola having on Tuesday and Wednesday fumigated the ancient city of Ile-Ife and its environs including Modakeke against the pandemic Coronavirus disease with his newly invented locally made fumigators supported by drones provided by FST Drone Services Company owned by Mr Larinde Williams.

Ooni, the Natural Head of the Oduduwa rsce globally who doubled as Co-Chairman of the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria(NCTRN) promised to continually contribute his quota towards the development of the country, saying the fumigators invented by him and manufactured in his palace is a modular motorized machine that can be mounted on the back of any truck.

Signed;
Comrade Moses Olafare,
Director, Media & Public Affairs,
Ooni's Palace.

Politics / South West Governors Unanimously Return 10, 800 Bags Of Rice Donated By FG As Co by Oluwamarc(m): 5:00pm On Apr 25, 2020
Says Rice Unhealthy for Human Consumption

Decision Communicated to FG through VP Osinbajo

How APC Governors kept mum, used Makinde to fly Story in the Media

85% of Rice sent to Ondo Now Green in Colour

Osun, Ogun, Ekiti, Ondo, Oyo to Return Own Portions, Lagos Dumps Own inside Lagoon

By Bankole Adeniyi

More facts have emerged on why the Oyo State Government decided to return the 1, 800 bags of rice donated to the state by the federal government to cushion the effect of covid-19 pandemic currently ravaging the World.

The Oyo State Government, in a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the State Governor on AgricBusiness, Dr. Debo Akande disclosed that the rice have been infected by weevil and other pests making them unhealthy for human consumption.

The statement however generated instant criticisms from some section of the public who alleged that the State Governor, Seyi Makinde, being an opposition PDP member, was senselessly playing politics with the matter without considering the suffering of his people who are currently wallowing in the euphoria of hunger and starvation.

However, The Elite Times can confirm that the decision to reject the rice was taken yesterday during a virtual meeting held by the Nigerian Governors Forum presided over by their Chairman and Governor of Ekiti- State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi with the Vice-President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, SAN.

Speaking to The Elite Times on Saturday, a close aide of Akeredolu who preferred anonymity said the Ondo State Government has rejected her own portion of the rice because 85% of it have been infected by pests and now green in colour.

“85% of the Rice has changed to colour green. We dare not share it to animals talk less of human beings, not even prisoners on death roll,” the aide said.

Asked why the state government chose to keep the story secret unlike her Oyo State counterpart, the aide said “we are in APC like Abuja people, we cannot address the public like Makinde who is a PDP Governor.

“The Fact is the governors unanimously pleaded with Makinde to fly the news and that’s why i am calling you to help us fly it that it is not only Oyo rice that is not good but all the six states. Osinbajo has been briefed since yesterday. The rice is not good for human consumption.

“Lagos is not returning their own, they are dumping everything inside Lagoon; Osun, Ogun and Ekiti are returning their portions to Lagos where it was disbursed,” the aide concluded.

Health / Brazil President Coughs At Rally by Oluwamarc(m): 6:14am On Apr 22, 2020
BRAZILIAN President Jair Bolsonaro has said he wants social isolation policies to end nationwide this week despite commitments by many states to maintain them.
Bolsonaro stated this four days after firing his health minister amid the coronavirus pandemic.
He coughed repeatedly while speaking to supporters in Brasilia, saying the measures had been imposed against his will and wanted them to end by the end of the week, despite experts warning the peak is still a long time off.

The president has described the virus, which has killed thousands around the world, as a ‘little cold’. Nearly all Brazilian states have stay-at-home measures in place, some slated to extend until the middle of May.
The country’s top court has already ruled governors and mayors can decide on social isolation measures regardless of the federal government’s position.
Bolsonaro, meanwhile, wants a quick reopening to stop the deterioration of Brazil’s faltering economy.

Politics / TCN: Free Electricity Is Mere Propaganda by Oluwamarc(m): 6:18am On Apr 17, 2020
The recent announcement of plan to give Nigerians two months of free electricity as part of palliatives for COVID -19 is nothing more than propaganda that cannot work , the Transmission Company of Nigeria has said.
The TCN faulted the announcement by power distribution companies that the Federal Government and the National Assembly would pay for the proposed two- month free electricity for customers .
Discos made the announcement through their umbrella body , the Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors.
Reacting to the development in Abuja on Thursday, the Managing Director of the TCN , Usman Mohammed , said , “There is this information that went round that power is going to be free .
“ I don ’ t know where that information came from .
“ But I can tell you that there is nothing like power is going to be free because the Federal Government cannot make power free . The Federal Government does not own the power. ”
Mohammed explained that the Federal Government only owns the TCN while the generation and distribution companies were largely owned by private investors .
He said , “In the electricity industry , apart from transmission , which is just the transporter, all the other chains do not belong to the Federal Government . So I cannot understand how somebody will concoct that information . ”

Mohammed argued that those peddling the information were merely sharing propaganda that would not work.
He said , “But these are some of the people involved in propaganda who brand information that is very unnecessary , to be honest .
“ I think at this stage what we need to do is to sustainably supply electricity and that is what we are doing . ”
The TCN boss further stated that in the last two weeks that most parts of Nigeria had been on lockdown, operators in the power sector had worked and performed well .
However , the House of Representatives and electricity distribution companies raised a joint committee on the proposed two-month free power supply on Thursday.
Speaker of the House , Femi Gbajabiamila , who presided over a meeting in Abuja with the companies and other officials , said the joint panel would work out modalities for the proposed two-month bill waiver for the most vulnerable people in the country.

Politics / National Assembly Leaders Meet Buhari, Seek SIP Reforms by Oluwamarc(m): 6:35am On Apr 15, 2020
The Senate President , Ahmed Lawan, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives , Femi Gbajabiamila , on Tuesday , met with the President , Major General Muhammadu Buhari ( retd. ) , behind closed doors to discuss the implementation of the National Social Investment Programme , among other issues .

This comes days after a clash between the National Assembly and the Special Adviser to the President on Social Investment Programme , Maryam Uwais , over the need for a reform of the process of implementing the programme.

Uwais had, on April 8 , responded to criticisms of the programme by the legislature with allegations that lawmakers were criticising the implementation of the SIP partly because some of them tried but failed in their bid to insert the names of would -be beneficiaries .

The National Assembly , however , replied that Uwais should be “ receptive to constructive ideas and suggestions expressed to enhance service delivery . ”

Lawan , who spoke to journalists after the meeting at the State House in Abuja, reiterated the call for reforms in the social investment initiatives.

He said , “ This afternoon, we had an engagement with Mr President to discuss with him what we , the leadership of the National Assembly , have resolved and our opinion on various issues regarding the fight against COVID- 19 in Nigeria and going forward.

“ We also believe that it is time to reform the way and manner we implement the Social Investment Programme . This is a very important programme that is to help Nigerians who are poor and vulnerable .
“ We believe that, having implemented this programme from 2016 to date , we should be reviewing to evaluate the efficacy and efficiency with which we have been implementing this programme. ”

The Senate President emphasised the need to have a transparent programme that would go down to the people that deserved the support and an equitable and fair projects as far as the geographical spread across the country was concerned .

According to him , the Federal Government is considering bringing the request for a stimulus package of N 500 bn to the National Assembly .

He said , “ We believe that we should be watching closely and it is with this respect we feel that we should be on standby so that, should there be a presentation of that request for the stimulus package to be passed , we simply reconvene in the National Assembly to look into the request of the executive arm of government with the intention of ensuring that the stimulus is available to Nigerians at this state . ”

Lawan stated that, among the discussions with Buhari , was the proposition that the various donations to Nigeria should go into a single account with a management fund committee that would be in charge of releases

Asked whether he wanted the national social register discarded, the Senate President argued that the present register was contrived by “the World Bank method, ” saying the distribution should be on the basis of senatorial districts, federal constituencies , or local governments .

According to him , the implementation procedure does not precisely capture the kind of beneficiaries that ordinarily should be .

GOV AKEREDOLU IMPOSES CURFEW ON ONDO OVER COVID-19

Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu,SAN, has ordered a dusk -to-dawn curfew on the state from 7pm to 7am as part of the efforts to contain the spread of Covid-19 in the state.

Governor Akeredolu, who made the announcement during a press conference held at the Government House, Alagbaka, Akure on Tuesday, said the curfew takes immediate effect as from Tuesday, 14th April, 2020 till further notice.

The Governor stressed that the state becomes more vulnerable as the third case is within the state with a tendency towards community transmission.

Arakunrin Akeredolu disclosed that he has also directed other sterner measures including arrest and detention of individuals found to have breached government’s directives on restriction of movement of persons and goods, operation of business premises and community markets, religious gatherings and public bars and other social activities within the state.

According to the Governor, only exceptions are where food and medical items are sold with total compliance with social and physical distancing.

Arakunrin Akeredolu said:"For avoidance of doubt the current case is not currently a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as earlier announced. He is an employee of the Nigerian Army Barracks who served as a medical practitioner in the same facility in the year 2017 and was retained."

According to the Governor, government is fully conscious of the pains and frustrations being currently experienced by the people, as a result of the existing restrictions and limitations, especially by those whose daily survival depends on daily wage such as menial workers, artisans and traders.

Governor Akeredolu said the food palliative measures which the state has commenced distributing was to further alleviate the difficulties and pains of the people.
