I started this in July 2017. I rented a pen house in the Epe axis of Lagos (At a "mates" rate of 50k) I purchased 3500 chicks at 17 weeks old @ N1,400 each = N4,900,000. The funny thing is I couldn’t buy them directly from the seller I had to go through an agent who charge N30 per bird = N105,000. After buying the bird I got them debecked for N14,000. Got them vaccinated and gave them antibiotics for a disease called Newcastle. Med N42,000
The birds arrived at my farm at 19 weeks and fed on 84 bags of grower weekly (That is 12 bags per day) @ N3,400 each = N285,600
Generator cost N5,000 per week
ND+IB Vaccine (14/08/17) N6,800
Miscellaneous cost average N29,000 per month
It is important to weigh a sample of birds every week to check on their progress in growth
This is the summary of average weight:
31/07/2017 @ 19 weeks old bird weight is 1,080grams growth of 133 grams
07/08/2017 @ 20 weeks old bird weight is 1,118grams growth of 38 grams
14/08/2017 @ 21 weeks old bird weight is 1,276grams growth of 158 grams.
Increase fed to 98 bags of grower weekly (That is 14 bags per day) @ N3,400 each = N333,200

.Op,The average weight of the at 22 weeks should be 1.7kg and I think at 22weeks,you should be on 60+ percentage egg production now.another thing I noticed about the picture of the egg you post is that I noticed you are overfeeding your birds.your running cost is also on a high side.good luck

i,if you raising from dayold to 6weeks with adlibutum feeding, you will need 4bags of feeds and 8bags for 8weeks. The price of vaccines and drugs should be around 800naira to 1000naira.cheers

Hello,i don't think you have any issue here,the poo I am seeing there is not watery,they only I thing that I saw there is the brown poo which suppose to be of concern to you.the brown poo is called is called cecal poo and the darker it ithe more it Smell and it not a sign of any disease in birds,so be calm it think your birds are fine.on the the issue of your feed what type of feed are you giving them e.g grower mash or chick mash

This is great am going into this on a very large scale. My question; The ginger, garlic and aloe vera are they for prevention/cure of general diseases like gumboro, cossi,salmonella, crd,coryza,new castle etc or for specific diseases( if for specific then pls list them)
and what are the feed ingredient of u feed and at what kg for each. thanks

@you can experiment with it before going into large scale.the organic is more prevention than curative,when your birds are down with any disease after using of organic,it is better you discontinue using it and go for synthetic drugs that one is sure of.cheers

@chibenze, there is no known herb that has been discovered for the treatment of a particular disease,all we do here is to bombard the birds from all sort of herbs for prevention.

There could be a number of reasons. it could be the strain of your birds, worms or even the quality of your feed. I practice organic farming so I don't know much about conventional poultry. when was the last time you dewormed you birds?

.what is their number and how bags of feeds are they eaten in days,let me know the name of the feed they are eaten.

Day 4. This is when preparations for coccidiosis vaccination begins but not for my chicks. the daily intake of ginger, garlic and aloe vera extract will take care of it. The birds are very active today and eating nonstop. No mortality.

,well-done,i am following your trend 100%.coccidiosis vaccination begins day 4 to 5 when you are using immucox or levacox and 2weeks when you are using coccidiostat.there is one mistake you are also making in the use of ginger, garlic and aloe Vera,these will never take care of coccidiosis and I based my conclusion on the experiment I also performed,you can say all these will prevent your birds from coccidiosis and other diseases when you are dealing with small number of birds but please don't go organic when you are dealing with larger number coz I am experimented it before.goodluck

I had a friend who upon his first try out didn't apply vaccine and he had a wonderful result...but you can't farm on a commercial basis and not guide against these things...but na so people dey take learn sha...

but from the business aspect now,why will I have large number of birds and risk not giving them any lasota and gumboro which are very important.gumboro outbreak only can kill 90% of your birds alone just coz one is avoiding to spend 5k for 5000 birds one will now loose millions of naira which doesn't make sense to me.

Sorry to post this ,, I lost 11 birds to chronic respiratory diseases, Inhaling of Ammonia.

What hurts most is that you can wake up in the morning and 2 birds dead,, no sign of coccidiossis, just a chronic type of cough as symptoms.. I felt bad so I treated with A CRD drugs.

sorry to hear about that,for crd, you we have most the mortalies over night cos of the cold and if you want to be sure you are battling with crd take close look at the dead birds in the morning you will notice the abdomen and the leg of such birds faces up when it does.If you have confirm it is crd go and get them tylodox,tyloxin,coryl sp or anitylan.good luck

True this...I agree...Even after administering lasota..birds still break down with Newcastle..how much more when you don't administer vaccines at all, if hygiene was 100% top notch, but how can you match that,,

i agree with you that your hygiene must be top notch,but lasota is not something one should joke with,i still don't know how hygienic you pen or farm would be that they will not come down with Newcastle,see just are just basics if you want to have a good production you are to put some things in place

This is standard of course, but the point is you don't vaccinate a sick bird, never!!!,,You help them improve on antibiotics and other medications before you now vaccinate, vaccinating sick birds is like severing one's head off because of head ache...I understand you very well, I am a young farmer but these are things I 've learnt and seen in my young career.
Giving lasota to birds already down with Newcastle is like killing them on purpose...you boots broken down immune system first and then lasota can come in later when the birds begin to respond to the antibiotics..My 2 cents.

i am not saying he should vaccinate sick birds,my point is, had it been he gave them all the required drugs and vaccines and there is enough ventilation in his pen he wouldn't have had all this issues.but the Op also need to tell us what he observed about his birds.

@Oluwakayode,it is not a matter of been hasty,there are Vaccination and drug programs you follow when you are raising birds.but when you are not following the program you should know that you are on your own and anything that happens you should bear the consequences.at day 7,lasota should be given to the birds,day 9, you vaccinate with gumboro, you will repeat the process at day 14 and 18 respectively after which you now give them coccidiostat every two weeks coz of coccidiosis.with this,you won't have any cause to panic.thanks

.it will not be too late.i observed that you covered your pen with wood,it would be better if you can remove and net your pen round because of cross ventilation because too much of heat we make your birds to be subseptible to diseases due to inhaling of ammonia which can lead to coccidiosis,chronic respiratory disease among other.goodluck

u are so correct bro. All these kinds of things I read here......ugu, garlic, ginger, mornings, organic poultry farming.........bla bla bla are not for commercial farmers farming for profit. How on earth can u administer garlic to 500 birds and expect to make profit? Or how many tablets of septrin or Panadol can u put in their water? How many heads of ugh will they consume?

using garlic is less expensive but I still think the synthetic is more effective and sustainable compare to organic drugs,i am experimenting on the effect of organic drugs and synthetic with 5000 broilers,2000 organic and 3000 synthetic,my conclusion is that the organic is more of preventive rather than curative while the synthetic works for both.organic will only be effective by using it for small number of birds,while the synthetic works for large flocks of birds.

I get mine from two weeks old and not more than 20. My own safeguards has been giving them garlic second day of buying them, and depending on weather i give panadol when it cold. It drive cold away from them immediately. I also give bitter leaf, vitamin c, and ugu leaf. Vitamin c makes them eat like anything and ugu makes them big.

I raised cockerel in two months with this method. Even the seller dint believe it.

Let me also add, the most recent i got were very fragile, some couldnt even stand well. I bought calcium, ground it and add to their food, i did that twice and the result was superb. They fly like anythings now in their cage.

Also, when its very hot, i give them cold water. I take block from freezer atimes and add to their water.

.madam when you have large number of birds giving them ugwu,panadol might not help coz you dealing with large number of birds
