Politics / Tambuwal Urges Nigerians To Pray For Peace, Free, Fair Elections by Oluwolex2000(m): 9:38am On May 02, 2022
Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state and a presidential aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has urged Nigerians to continue to pray for peace in the country.

Tambuwal made the call on Sunday in his Eid-el-Fitr Sallah message to the people in Sokoto.

According to him, the substantial relaxation of COVID-19 containment measures across the globe has restored freedom to Nigerians to pursue their socio-economic activities within and beyond their shores.

“Also critical is the easing of regulations that now enable Muslim faithful to perform religious obligations outside our country.

“I wish to appeal that we exploit the opportunity to pray for peace in Nigeria and for the peaceful, free and fair elections that will usher in everlasting unity, stability and prosperity for our nation.

“We should not lose sight of the fact that we have all sweated and bled to ensure that we put in place an enduring democratic culture. As a result, we must not allow our efforts to go in vain,” he said.

The governor said that as leaders they have not on their part relented in their effort to tackle insecurity through sustained support to security agencies and collaboration with the Federal Government and authorities in the Niger Republic.

“Alarming incidents still occur in our communities but our collaboration is yielding positive results that lead to the capture and containing bandits and kidnappers in our state.

“Nigerians must remain level headed and never politicize the security situation facing us.

“We must, singularly and collectively continue to cooperate with the law enforcement agencies in our quest to bring this obnoxious challenge to a grinding halt,” he added.

Tambuwal further urged Muslim Ummah to extend the discipline exhibited in the month of Ramadan by making sacrifices and doing many lawful things.

“This is in furtherance of the great lesson that has been enshrined in fasting which includes self-discipline, selflessness and sacrifice in the service of Allah and humanity.

“In the light of this, concerted efforts must be made by all to keep the lesson of Ramadan fast alive, use it to make up with our fellow brothers and sisters and bring about the necessary cohesion in our society,” he said.

He specially appreciated the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultanate Council and Ulamas for their support, encouragement and fatherly guidance in steering the affairs of Sokoto state.

Politics / 2023: Tambuwal Meets Abuja PDP Delegates, Says There Should Be A Mayor For FCT by Oluwolex2000(m): 3:24pm On Apr 29, 2022
2023: Tambuwal Meets Abuja PDP Delegates, Says There Should Be A Mayor For FCT

Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, a frontline Peoples Democratic Party Presidential aspirant, last night said the Federal Capital Territory deserves a major just like other major cities around the world.

Governor Tambuwal disclosed this during his 2023 Presidential consultative meeting with the FCT delegates of the PDP in Abuja.

The former speaker of the House of Representatives noted that there is a lot of work to be done in the FCT adding that he "believes that the people we met at the FCT deserve more recognition. “

Speaking further, he said, “I am not insisting that FCT should be a state but you appoint ministers, sometimes two from a state, what stops you from appointing a zonal Minister from the FCT because FCT is part of the North Central zone. So if you are appointing an FCT person as Minister to represent the zone, what is wrong with that?

“Because of the Special nature of FCT, there should be a Mayor in the FCT. In major cities in the world, London, California, they have mayors.

“So I understand what the issues are, so what is important is for you to work with us on this campaign train. This is a project to beat in the PDP, the governor stated.

On his part, Hon. Dr Hassan Usman Sokoto, House of Representatives member, Abuja South said the FCT is praying that governor Tambuwal emerges as the PDP’s flag bearer.

“Please, Your Excellency, the leaders must call themselves to order so that if consensus cannot be achieved, once we get to primary, once a level playing ground is given, whosoever emerges but it is our earnest prayer that you emerge but because I don't know tomorrow but every day we are praying that you emerge but whosoever emerge, we hope that others will be able to join him and build this country but by the time we tear ourselves too much, after the primaries, to reconcile is going to be a Herculean task”, he said.

The FCT PDP chairman, Hon. Sunday Dogo Zakka, said the chapter of the party is backing the aspiration of Governor Tambuwal noting that he has been there for the party and it’s time for the party to be there for him.

“You have been there for the party, We will continue to appreciate you because you have been there for us. The party must also be there for you. So we thank you and thank you for your interest. I pray that you will return back safely. People of FCT are solidly behind you. We will not disappoint you.”

Politics / Presidency: PDP Needs A Salable Candidate, I’m One - Tambuwal by Oluwolex2000(m): 11:11am On Apr 28, 2022
Foremost Presidential aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has urged the party to aggregate its acts and move towards coming up with a presidential candidate that Nigerians will buy into and elect during the 2023 election.

And, according to him, he foots the bill of the modest list of what is required to lead the country.

Tambuwal made the appeal and submitted his capabilities Wednesday evening when he had an interactive meeting with a Forum of former Ministers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under the platform of the PDP at Asokoro, Abuja.

“What is key for PDP is a candidate that we can all work to sale together and win this election, not where the person is coming from,” the Governor of Sokoto told the former leaders of the country.

Explaining that his quest for the topmost job in the country is driven by altruism, patriotism and unity of the nation, he said “it is nothing personal. It is all about our country.”

Burnishing his tripodal credentials that cut across the executive, legislature and judiciary, he emphasized that he has a fair understanding of the country, where, unfortunately, “things are now getting bad.”

To remedy the situation, he reiterated the need for the PDP to have a credible candidate like himself “who have done quite a lot in Sokoto, in view of the resources at the administration’s disposal,” enumerating some of these achievements as prompt payment of salary, pension and the overhauling of healthcare delivery, education and more.

“I have an understanding of the Nigerian system today and can be bridge that is all round,” he reassures, pointing out that Nigerians are now “in a ship without a captain and it is clearly sinking.”

He offered that the antidote to this is for the “collective and collectivity of all in the PDP and Nigerians who understand the gravity of what is going on” to come together and salvage the country. This, he opined “can be done only through “processes and conventions that will throw up a credible candidate.”

He said currently, President Muhammadu Buhari does not understand Nigeria because of his clear case of exclusion in the governance of the country, bad economy and insecurity, the latter of which leaves Governors with no option.

“As Governors, we are limited in what can be done. The security architecture is centralized within the purview of the Federal Government,” whereas citizens nocturnally scamper for safety to neighboring countries.

Addressing the issue of his alleged rift with former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari, Gov. Tambuwal said his differences with both were misconstrued as personal. “There was nothing personal,” he said, noting that he “had reasons to disagree” with Jonathan; and also “disagreed with PMB from 2018 because of the way he ran and is still running the country.”

“We must not fail our country,” he appealed to the former Ministers under the aegis of the PDP.

Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of the Ministers’ Forum, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), said the group agreed to have this sensitive interactive session with him “because 2023 is a very serious business.”

Turaki, who said the Forum had turned down similar requests from other aspirants, said “there’s a failure of leadership in the country.

He said the ship of state is rudderless with misgovernance, injustice, hunger and many other problems rife. “Never before has Nigeria been so divided,” he added, proffering that the country wants a leader that is a unifier- not too old and too young, cosmopolitan, with listening ears, have respect for other, has ability to aggregate diverse opinions without compromising democracy.

The ex-minister, who applauded the Governor’s political sagacity and administrative prowess, stemming from his experience as former Speaker, most performing Governor and Life Bencher, assured him that if the discussion convinces them, the Forum will throw its weight behind him.

He said the Forum has resolved that after the series of interaction it has had so far, it will meet the party leadership and support any chosen candidate.

The honourable commissioner for works and transport in Osun State, Engr. Remi Omowaiye has admonished political officer holders in the country to continue to strife to put smiles on the faces of their followers, as this remains the true test of leadership and responsibility.

Omowaiye made the call at a mini empowerment programme he organized last Sunday for selected constituents in Ilesa in his quest to support the reelection bid of Governor Gboyega Oyetola.
"Leaders should lead with good examples, with fear of God and listening ears to their followers and people in their community, constant interaction between followers and leaders solve most of societal problems, a know attribute of Governor Oyetola", he said.

At the programme, the Ijesa born politician distributed deep freezers, about 25 generators to traders and some party faithfuls, he also gave cash support as business financial buffer to many others. High point of the event was the donation of a 43inches smart TV and generator to one, Mr. Adebisi Michael, a graduate of Industrial Chemistry from OAU who is living with disability who he (Omowaiye) got wind of his request through a widely circulated video on social media, documented by BBC News Pidgin.

In his thank you response, Mr. Adebisi Michael expressed surprise to the prompt and kind gesture extended to him by Engr. Omowaiye and thank him for supporting his sports viewing centre business in Ilesa . Michael said he came into limelight because of his tweet when popular, hip hop star, David Adeleke aka Davido requested for proposals from 20 young Nigerians who are small business holders and entrepreneurs which he also participated, though he's yet to receive a response from the music star. Omowaiye used the occasion to appeal to the international music star Davido to come to also come to the aid of Mr. Adebisi Michael, like he has promised..

Politics / 2023: North Yet To Pick Consensus Candidate — Sule Lamido by Oluwolex2000(m): 7:13pm On Apr 23, 2022
Former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido has debunked media reports suggesting the northern PDP has chosen a consensus candidate to represent the north ahead of the PDP 2023 presidential primaries election.

A statement signed by the church ex-Gov rejected the statement credited to the northern elders saying Saraki and Governor Bala Mohammed have been chosen as northern consensus.

The statement reads:

The attention of key stakeholders of the PDP in the Northern State is drawn to reports in the Media that some Northern Elders have shortlisted two of our prominent and deserving aspirants as consensus PDP Presidential Candidates

Having widely consulted Party Leaders across the 19 Northern States and FCT, it is hereby stated to our teeming Party members and the general public that what is reported in the Media is only the personal opinion of those who issued the statement and not the position of the PDP members in the North! Discussions are ongoing with ALL the aspirants in our party with a view to having a National Consensus if possible or at least working towards having smooth acrimony free National Convention.

The position of the Northern Elders is not only injurious to the North but equally injurious to the Northern Aspirants!

Politics / BREAKING: Consensus Drive Failed, We Are Not Part Of Any Agreement by Oluwolex2000(m): 10:51pm On Apr 22, 2022
BREAKING: Consensus Drive Failed, We Are Not Part of Any Agreement  -  Tambuwal Campaign Organization

The  Tambuwal Campaign Organization (TCO) has dismissed reports that a Northern consensus candidate has been picked.

In a statement signed Nicholas Msheliza, the

Director Organization and Mobilization for TCO, it said the report that Saraki emerged the consensus candidate of the North was incorrect and false.

The statement reads in part:  Our attention has been drawn to a news item that former Senate President, Bukola Saraki and Gov. Bala Muhammad of Bauchi state have emerged as consensus candidates from amongst the four of us announced at a meeting in Minna, Niger state.

This is, to be candid and forthright, not correct.

The correct situation is that the team met on Wednesday 20th April, 2022, at Bauchi Governor’s   lodge in Abuja and had a review meeting; and, unanimously agreed that the consensus arrangement was not working.

The team further agreed that Sen. Saraki should come up with a draft statement on how to communicate this decision to the Nigerian public. This was the last time that members of the team sat and mutually agreed on anything. The proposed meeting to review and vet the statement scheduled for 10 pm of the same day was aborted unilaterally by Sen. Saraki via a WhatsApp message.

However, on Thursday, 21st, 2022, same Sen Saraki circulated yet another WhatsApp message suggesting that members of the team should head to Minna for a meeting on Friday, Gov. Tambuwal reached other members of the team and informed them that he stands by the decision of the team that the initiative is not working. This is the reason Gov. Tambuwal was absent at today’s (Friday) meeting in Minna. As a result therefore, the outcome of the Minna meeting has no consequence or any implication on the aspiration of Gov. Tambuwal, who had earlier on informed his colleagues of maintaining their agreed position that the initiative has collapsed.

Members of the public should be reminded that what was canvassed for was a consensus candidate and not consensus  candidates.

For the avoidance of doubt, Gov Tambuwal has submitted his Presidential nomination forms and now that the quest for a consensus candidate out of the four has clearly collapsed, will go ahead and face screening and indeed contest the PDP presidential primaries.

This is in consonance with his acclaimed outlook as a pan-Nigerian candidate, with pedigree of national service as the Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, life member of the Body of Benchers and now in his second and final term as Governor of Sokoto state.

Former Osun Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola on Monday, invaded Osogbo, the Osun capital with armed thugs and NSCDC personnel, who were shooting sporadically and in the process two persons were alleged to have been shot dead.

Trouble started when Aregbesola was said to have brought out his head from an open roof, as though he was running for election and the shout of “ole, ole, “ rented the air.

Anger by the attitude of some of the residents, the interior minister was said to have ordered his thugs and the NSCDC personnel attached to him to open fire. It was in the process that two persons were said to have been shot dead.

Politics / I Won't Interfere In Governance After My Exit - Gov. Emmanuel Assures A'ibom by Oluwolex2000(m): 9:23am On Feb 10, 2022
I won't interfere in governance after my exit- Gov. Emmanuel assures A'Ibom Elders

Governor Udom Emmanuel has promised not to interfere in the affairs of governance once his tenure ends on May 29, 2023, reiterating that he has no intention of running a surrogate leadership after office, promising not to arrogate to himself, the powers of a godfather upon the emergence of a new Governor in 2023.

The governor stated this on Wednesday when he hosted the leadership of a foremost Akwa Ibom based sociopolitical group, Ibom Patriots, who were at Government House, Uyo, on a solidarity visit to the Governor who is their Grand Patron and to declare their support to the choice of Pastor Umo Eno as the preferred aspirant in the 2023 gubernatorial elections.

The governor who described Ibom Patriots as a group of dignified men and women expressed gratitude for the solidarity visit affirming that it was the first official visit by a group for such purpose, describing Akwa Ibom as a state named after God and loved by him, urging the people of the state to handle state matters with such consciousness.

In his words, "The era of godfatherism in politics is gone in Akwa Ibom. It is government of the people for the people and by the the people. God is interested in the people and God is about the people. We are going into an era when power has changed hand into the hand of the Holy Spirit, so that no man can boast that I did this or I did that. I will never arrogate to myself that kind of power. You'll never hear me even one day say to even a Councilor, I made you a Councilor.

"All power belongs to God. It is God who makes people what they are, not man so we must not arrogate such powers to ourselves".

Recollecting the memories of crisis moments while in office, Governor Emmanuel said he was confident that God must have chosen him to lead the state in the season for a reason.

He asserted that he has done his best to serve the state within his tenure and expressed optimism that his successor will build on what he has done and even surpass his record when he emerges,

"Before I came, who new that we will go through what we went through in that period of recession. It's only God who knew what was going to be ahead and made me to be here. Today, even if Akwa Ibom people do not appreciate it, I think the whole world can beat their chest and say this guy has not done badly. I know the sacrifices we made, I know what it took and I know how much we did to be where we are today. I also believe the person coming will do much better than I have done", Governor Emmanuel said.

Affirming that Umo Eno has the required humility for the service of the state, he said: "nobody can serve 7.2 million people if you are not humble at heart. If you a proud person you cannot serve the people because at some points, there will be need to play the fool and it takes a humble person to play the fool so that peace might reign."

The Chancellor of Ibom Patriots and leader of the delegation, Obong Bassey Inuaeyen, said the group was fully behind Governor Emmanuel, not just for the office, but as a Grand Patron of the group and expressed confidence in the Umo Eno project as being in the best interest of the state, especially to further the peace and prosperity established by the present administration.

Inuaeyen called on people to desist from all sorts of personal attacks on the governor on social media platforms, describing the office of the governor as representing the collective dignity of Akwa Ibom people.

Politics / Alleged Attack On Oranmiyan House: Who Is Really Culpable? by Oluwolex2000(m): 2:38pm On Feb 04, 2022
Alleged attack on Oranmiyan House: who is really culpable?

By Lanre Akeju

On Thursday evening, Osun was greeted with the news of attack on Oranmiyan House, Osogbo, where former Governor Rauf Aregbesola’s loyalists operate from.

According to the report, the building was attacked after their meeting. And before you could shout Hosana, the group had accused sympathisers of government of being behind the attack.

For us as keen watchers of events in Osun, the first question that comes to mind is, why will the APC, which already has an upper hand in the fight for the soul of the party in the state, carry out such an attack?

Is it also possible that like it did recently, the members of The Osun Progressives, TOP, might have been behind the attack, just to curry underserved sympathy?

The party chairman, Prince Gboyega Famodun, received his Certificate of Return, on Thursday indicating that he is the authentic party chairman in Osun and not that impostor, Rasaq Salinsile. So why would Famodun’s supporters contemplate any attack on TOP members?

On the same day, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola was at the party secretariat in Abuja to submit his governorship nomination form. It was a day of joy for him and his team. So, why will Oyetola’s supporters attack Oranmiyan House? For what ?

On Wednesday, APC, led by Famodun, recorded a landmark victory in court against TOP. If TOP had carried the day and this happened, then, one may say, perhaps, the Famodun group of the party is expressing anger over the turn of event. But this was never the case. So, is it possible that TOP carried out the Thursday attack to prepare ground for the eventual attack of Oyetola’s campaign office and the APC party secretariat respectively?

If indeed the attack was an external one, why did it happen after the TOP meeting and not during the meeting?

Again, how did the attack happen with the presence of about 16 personnel of the NSCDC who were armed to the teeth guarding the building?

Like the Government said yesterday, we are also interested in knowing the identity of those behind the alleged attack, especially now that we hear that the ‘suspect’ that has been arrested is well known within that vicinity to be a ‘garage’ boy, who fend for himself through begging. We at Osun Shall Rise Again, OSRA, are interested in this matter. We are watching.

Akeju is the Secretary of Osun Shall Rise Again, OSRA, a socio-political group.

He noted also that Senator Bob's decision to step down for his brother was a display of maturity and statesmanship, adding that his respect for Effiong Bob has increased.

Mr Emmanuel was of the opinion that while some people where meant to be kings, there were others who where destined to be fathers of the king, adding that the Senator Bob is the father of the favoured gubernatorial hopeful.

All I want is the welfare of the citizens of Akwa Ibom", he added, tasking the entire team to be courageous and continuously stand by the governorship hopeful and subsequently own up the government as a collective responsibility.

Expressing regrets over the ordeals of sudden behavioural changes by supposed political allies, the Governor thanked God for leading him not to follow mere sentiments, which would have amounted to grave mistakes.

"These, however, were necessary to reveal that what really defined some relationships were money, position and power, thus tempering with any of those redefined the relationships", he added.

Politics / Gov. Emmanuel Canvass Unity Among Ekiti Guber Aspirants by Oluwolex2000(m): 1:23pm On Jan 29, 2022
Gov. Emmanuel canvass unity among Ekiti Guber aspirants

...As PDP members commend A'Ibom Gov on peaceful, transparent primaries

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel has urged contestants in the just concluded gubernatorial primaries of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State to bury the hatchet and work together for the victory of the party in the state. Governor Emmanuel who was leader of the 5-man PDP primary election committee in Ekiti State gave the admonition while fielding questions with Government House correspondents at the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, upon his return from the assignment.

He thanked the National Chairman and the National working Committee of PDP for an opportunity to serve the party, describing it as a privilege he cannot take for granted, expressing satisfaction with the integrity and conduct of the primary election.

The Governor who described the exercise as transparent, fair and credible, called on all participants in the contest to acknowledge the supremacy of the party and pull forces together to grab victory in the consequent general election as one party.

Hear him, "I think personally I'm satisfied that the process was credible and I also believe almost 100% of the people that watched it will give us credit that it was a very credible, transparent, free and fair election. My advice is, let all of them go back and work together. We have only one seat and only one person can occupy that seat. If after all what the party did at the NWC to accommodate all aspirants, the people then spoke and said this is the person we want to bear the flag of the party, I think all others should just join hands and work together. Party is supreme, let the party win then they can all sit down and talk".

He described as false and speculative, insinuations of unfair treatment and disenfranchisement of some aspirants, maintaining that the process was void of malpractices and created no room for expression of ill behaviours that would have given grounds to discredit the exercise.

According to him, such insinuations were indications of pre-perceived defeat. He maintained that the committee had an authentic list from the National Working Committee which followed religiously, stressing that no single person voted that was not accredited and that there was none accredited that was not allowed to vote.

In his words, "Talking about Ekiti gubernatorial primaries, I've heard a whole lot; how some aspirants even before the process started, went to the press. ...I think they felt they knew the outcome even before we went into the election. ...Some of them came to make trouble but by the time they saw that there was no room for such trouble they knew there's no way they could have made it".

"All the aspirants gave us a very excellent mark for all the processes: from accreditation to voting, to sorting, to counting, even to declaration of result. Even after that we gave them opportunity to speak of they were satisfied. We also had to make sure one of the international TV stations beamed it live so everybody could see the processes" he added.

The Governor cationed the public to be wary of politician who promote violence as means to grab power and sued for peaceful politicking towards the 2023 polls.

Hear him, "As we go into 2023, people will give peace a chance. If you want to serve the people, you can't serve the people with a gun. Whoever carries a gun to serve is not going to serve the people but himself. If you want to serve the people and you don't want peace, there is an undertone we don't know. I think we need to unravel that and question your real intensions."

The Ekiti PDP Guber primaries which was keenly contested by twelve apirants had Hon. Bisi Kolawale emerging as winner with 671, edging out his immediate runner up, Segun Oni, who scored 330. Bisi Kolawale is a former member of the National Assembly 2007-2011, served as Environment Commissioner in Fayose's administration among other political offices held.

Significantly, all the aspirants who participated in the primaries have all congratulated the winner and pledged to work for the success of the PDP in the forthcoming Ekiti Governorship election.

Politics / This Man, Hon Umar Emmanuel by Oluwolex2000(m): 5:50pm On Jan 23, 2022
THIS MAN, HON UMAR EMMANUEL

A man of action who recently sent a clear message to criminal elements in the state when he oversaw the demolition of buildings belonging to kidnappers in Yikangbe, a suburb of Minna, the state capital. And this was after the suspects were arrested and sent down to Abuja for further investigation. His unwavering commitment to matters of safety of the state is not unconnected to the fact that he is truly a son of the soil. Born in October 12, 1975, and a native of Shiroro, his training and experience informed the decision of Governor Abu Sani Bello to appoint him to head the Ministry for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Internal Security.

Many are unaware that Hon. Emmanuel began his law enforcement career with State Security Service in 1997 as field operative and in 1999 was assigned to the Presidential Protection Unit where he served for eight years and voluntarily retired in 2007 to accept the position of Senior Foreign Service National Investigator at U.S. Embassy Regional Security Office, Abuja where he served for nine years, and in 2016 joined Janus Global Inc. as the Director, Business Development and Corporate Services and later Consultant/ Technical Adviser to the Inspector General of Police.

Before all these, he had obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Abuja, later a Masters in Strategy and Security Administration and a Postgraduate Diploma from Nigeria Defense Academy Kaduna and then a certificate in Strategic Planning for Security and Development from the UK Defense Academy, Cranfield University.

His academic background with his over 21 years experience in Law Enforcement and Security has proven highly useful as, under his stewardship, the Niger State Government harmonized all vigilante groups under a single structure, providing them with a united front to complement the effort of conventional security forces in curbing banditry and general criminality in the state. This was following the signing into law of the State Vigilante Corps by Governor Abu Sani Bello.

As one of them, Hon. Emmanuel has stayed close and has kept agents of the security forces working in the state motivated by ensuring that their needs are met and their advice listened to. This was why Hon. Emmauel last year went as far as spending Christmas with security agents in Erena and other communities of Shiroro LGA, away from his wife and 5 lovely children.

A cultured gentleman with respect for traditions and traditional institutions, he was on ground to ensure a seamless selection of the new Emir of Kontagora Emirate, and presented His Highness, Alh. Mohammed Barau Kontagora with appointment letter. The Commissioner is ever ready to listen to, and expedite on all initiatives that hold the promise of progress of traditional institutions in the state.

Nor is his commitment to the welfare of Local Government officials in doubt. The Ministry works assiduously to ensure that workers are fairly and appropriately compensated in a timely manner. In his own words, “As a ministry, we are doing everything possible to ensure that Local Government staff receive their salaries as at when due.”

Dattijo’s posters flood Kaduna as Buhari inaugurates projects

Loyalists and supporters of Muhammad Sani Abdullahi on Thursday flooded Kaduna state with campaign posters and other materials as President Muhammadu Buhari inaugurated projects in the state.

The supporters of the former chief of staff were seen in strategic locations during the president's visit to the state. The supporters seen in buses in the metropolis with different banners hailing President Buhari and the governor of the state, Nasir el-Rufai for their landmark achievements, chanted ‘Sai Dattijo’ as they drove round the state.
Dattijo who currently works as the commissioner for budget and planning, is yet to declare his intention, but the display from support groups in the state signals events leading to the 2023 elections.

Buhari on Thursday inaugurated three road projects in Kafanchan, headquarters of Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The roads were Katsina road, Dan haya road and the Emir Palace Road, constructed under the Kafanchan Urban Renewal Project of the state government.

Buhari, in the company of the state governor, Malam Nasir Elrufai, toured the newly commissioned roads, amidst cheers by the huge crowd of people who trooped out to welcome him.
While inaugurating the Kawo Bridge, the President recalled how he was almost bombed near the bridge while travelling to Katsina in July 2014.
Buhari said, “They wanted to blow me (up). But my escort somehow stopped them. Before we came to this bridge, they became so desperate and there was a small market or something like this here.

“They exploded (detonated) the device (bomb). God protected us and here I am again. Thank you very much your Excellency and remarkably you became my governor. I don’t think I have any input. Zainab Ahmed became my minister of finance. I didn’t know you’re from the gentleman I respect and went to his house. This is a fabulous coincidence and I thank God for it. Therefore, I have taken your loyalty for granted.”

The Kawo bridge has become a cynosure of all eyes, which had attracted many tourists to Kaduna since its completion.

Buhari also commissioned the ultra-modern sports and shopping complex at Murtala Square Kaduna, where he reiterated the likelihood of his living in Kaduna after leaving office.

2022 Armed Forces Remembrance Day: Gov Emmanuel decry neglect of Ex Service men

*Urge Nigerians to weld layers of diversity, knit together a tapestry of oneness, brotherhood, unity

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel says the love and support Nigeria has shown ex service men who risk their lives in defence of country is not proportionate to the many selfless sacrifice the men and women of the Armed Forces have offered in service to the country.

Speaking at the 2022 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration in Uyo, Governor Emmanuel noted that it is one thing for the nation to gather every year to eulogize these patriotic and brave men and women, but quoting Ronald Reagan he advocated that “if words cannot repay the debt we owe these men, surely with our actions we must strive to keep faith with them and with the vision that led them to battle and to final sacrifice”.

According to the Governor, these gallant men and women, went into battle fields spread across the world knowing full well that, they may pay the ultimate price which most did, but because they believed in something - our unity, our freedom, the capacity for us to live in peace and harmony, they willingly offered to pay the ultimate sacrifice.

Hear him, "Perhaps it is pertinent to ask: Have we rewarded these brave and gallant men and women who even as we speak are being shot at, attacked and killed by such non-state actors as Boko Haram, bandits, agents of separatist movements or those who are at different theatres of war outside our shores? Have we correspondingly appreciated and rewarded them for their labour and sacrifices? What have we done to show in practical terms that the labour, the toil, the psychological scars, the emotional trauma which invariably led to such post-war stress syndrome as depression, suicide etc., were not in vain?

He urged that as the nation to celebrate and honour the sacrifices, patriotic fervour, gallantry and spirit of volunteerism of the Men and Officers of the Nigerian Armed Forces, the words of World War 2, hero, General George Patton who said “It is better to fight for something in life than to die for nothing”, should always guide our leaders, policy makers and citizens.

In his words, "The brave warriors we are honouring today, believed in something, an ideal or causes higher than their collective or personal interest, and that’s why they elected through volunteerism, not by conscription to sign up to fight for the preservation of our territorial integrity against foreign or domestic enemies".

He explained that the Akwa Ibom State Government has shown in practical terms her deep appreciation for the sacrifices our gallant patriots made. "We are grateful for the deep collaboration we have enjoyed from the Nigerian Armed Forces especially those with command locations in our State, such as the 2 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, and other arms of the Services. That we are nationally celebrated as one of the most peaceful States in the nation is a testament to the cooperation we have received form the Armed Forces and other allied security agencies", he stated.

The Governor declared that his administration has built 168 blocks of flats for the Officers and Men of the Nigerian Army Battalion located in Ibagwa, embarked on water reticulation aimed at ensuring the residents of the barracks have clean water, reiterating the determination of his administration to intervene in other quality of life projects.

"This is, just a little effort on our part to show that we appreciate the sacrifices the Men and Officers of the Nigeria Armed Forces are making to keep us safe and secure", he stated.

He called on citizens to eschew tendencies that helped provide the ferment for conflicts, noting that as a nation rich in diversity, our diversity should represent our strength and not platforms to enlarge our fault lines or differences as God has given us all that we need to succeed and excel.

"We must weld and meld these layers of our diversity and knit together a tapestry of oneness, brotherhood and unity based on justice, equity and fairness"

"Most of the issues that led to conflicts where these gallant patriots paid with their lives could have been resolved if we had listened to one another and appreciated the concerns and grievances our aggrieved compatriots had brought to the table of discussion. Unfortunately, we were stuck in our set of demands and were unwilling to make compromises. We must learn to jaw-jaw instead of war-war", he admonished.

According to Governor Emmanuel, Nigeria today is faced with some of those similar sentiments that had led to the civil war and the drum beat and rhetoric of division are being beaten and enlarged by various echo-chambers.

"We must neuter these divisive and incendiary rhetoric and agree to build a nation that our founding fathers had envisioned, based on our diversity and inherent greatness. As we get ready to elect our next set of leaders, let us be reminded that national interest should and must trump or override our personal or group interest and those things that may heat upon the polity and strain the cords of our unity must be avoided. We cannot afford another national conflict; we cannot afford to send our youths to fight over issues that could have been addressed peacefully in an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust", he urged.

Politics / Digital Centre: Pantami Shuns Aregbesola, Avoids Ilesa Event by Oluwolex2000(m): 4:11pm On Jan 14, 2022
Digital Centre: Pantami shuns Aregbesola, avoids Ilesa event

Contrary to media hype of the impending visit of the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, to Ilesa to join Interior Minister, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola to unveil a digital centre, the minister stayed away from the event.

Our reporter who covered the event on Friday observed that the attendance at the event was also poor. The Aregbesola camp had intended to use the event to launch the governorship bid of former Osun Speaker, Najeem Salam, and to also discredit the sitting Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola.

Although no reason was given for the minister’s absent, sources disclosed that it may not be unconnected with the perceived anti-party posture of the interior minister, whom sources say had wanted to use the Ilesa event to launch himself back to reckoning politically.

“I read in the papers that the two ministers will be coming to Ilesa today. So, some of us came here not because we love Ogbeni but to see if he is able to pull the crowd he normally pulled when he was here.

“As you can see, where is the crowd ? I am sure some persons may have advised Pantami not to allow himself be used by Ogbeni. The man is fighting a lost battle. The earlier he realizes that, the better for him and his followers,” the source added.

Politics / OSRA Raises Alarm On Plot By Aregbesola To Cause Mayhem In Osun by Oluwolex2000(m): 9:16pm On Jan 13, 2022
OSRA raises alarm on plot by Aregbesola to cause mayhem in Osun

.puts IGP on notice

A socio-political group , Osun Shall Rise Again, OSRA, has raised the alarm over plots by former Osun Governor and Interior minister, Rauf Aregbesola to cause mayhem in the State.

The group accused the minister of plot to use Friday's occasion of the inauguration of the Digital Centre in Ilesa which had no bearing with the Interior ministry to launch the governorship bid of former Osun Speaker, Najeem Salam, who hails from Osun West.

In a statement signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the group respectively, Saheed Bakare and Lanre Akeju, OSRA said information at its disposal indicates that the letter written to Osun State Government by the National Communications Commissions, NCC, with respect to the occasion, did not indicate that both the Interior minister and Digital Economy minister, Dr. Isa Pantami, will be gracing the occasion.

It therefore wondered why Aregbesola would be mobilising and inducing persons to attend the event at Ilesa, if not to cause mayhem in the State.

The group also advised Governor Oyetola not to attend the event in the interest of peace and stability of the State.

To this end, “we are calling on the Inspector-General of Police to be on the look out and charge the Osun CP to take proactive measures to avert violence in Osun on Friday.

“Our former Governor and Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has been trying to create the impression that the incumbent governor is not popular, the same way it attempted to spread it in the build-up to the 2018 governorship election.

"But we are witnesses to a gale of endorsements for Oyetola's candidature from the West especially and across the State in general. And because these endorsements from our findings are spontaneous, we believe it is the reflection of the reality on the ground.

"We are aware that all those issues that reduced APC's popularity and made it struggle to win the governorship in the build-up to the 2018 governorship poll have all been addressed by Oyetola and have endeared the party to the people once more.

"From abolition of half salary to reversal of single uniform and revert to old names of the various schools among others, Oyetola has won the hearts of the people.

"Oyetola cannot be faulted on the issue of performance and the popular and acceptable saying is that ' you don't change a winning team.' Aregbesola should be advised to give peace a chance,” the group said.

Politics / Abuja Erupts In Jubilation As Nigerians Ask Gov Emmanuel To Run For President by Oluwolex2000(m): 4:38pm On Jan 07, 2022
2023: Abuja erupts in jubilation as Nigerians ask Gov Emmanuel to run for President

...Urge FG to declare emergency on food security

...MRO, Coconut refinery, Ibom Deep Seaport, huge foreign exchange for A'Ibom- Gov. Emmanuel

There was jubilation in Abuja on Friday as Nigerians at home and in the diaspora called on Akwa Ibom State Governor, His Excellency, Mr Udom Emmanuel to contest the 2023 presidentail elections in order to replicate his industrialization policy and use his creative financial and economic ingenuity to salvage the Nigerian dwindling and almost collapsing economy.

This was part of reactions that trailed the Governor's live interview when he appeared as a Guest on Brekette Family Radio Live Talk Show in Abuja, hosted by the Ordinary President, Ahmed Isah on Brekete Family on Human Rights Radio 101.1 FM, Abuja, where the Governor spoke on his achievements in the last six years and on the State of the Nation.

Following his numerous achievements in the last six years as Governor, his hosts, Ahmed Isah and other phone in callers called on him to get set to contest for the office of President come 2023, promising to mobilize ordinary Nigerians to contribute funds to finance the electioneering cost. "Now we are begging you. Soon we'll lead a massive protest if you refuse to heed the plea of Nigerians. The country is bleeding. We need someone like you to use the knowledge of what you have done in Akwa Ibom to salvage the country, Isah declared.

The Governor asked those clamouring for him to run for the presidency to rather pray over their demand to seek God's blessings and direction while he concentrates on completing the mandate Akwa Ibom people gave him through the ballot.

Listing his achievements in office as Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Governor Emmanuel said the time has come for leaders to think outside the box on how to run the economy, a factor he said inspired him to conceive the idea of developing the three gateway of land, air and sea in Akwa Ibom.

He explained that apart from linking all the local government areas with access roads including the neighboring states, his administration has expanded on the vision of his predecessors to develop the MRO of the Ibom International Airport to allow for all aircrafts within the African continent to be serviced, maintained and overhauled in Akwa Ibom, a feat he noted will bring foreign exchange to the state.

According to the Governor, his administration is looking beyond oil which explains why he is currently test running the multi million dollar coconut refinery in the state of which five foreign countries are currently in Akwa Ibom to understudy the idea, technology and expertise in order to replicate same in their home country.

He explained that despite the price of crude oil per barrel at the International energy market, a litre of virgin coconut goes for $6 which means coconut oil is more costly and profitable than crude, this he said was another way his administration is diversifying both the State's economy and it's revenue profile.

He regreted that despite Akwa Ibom sitting on top over 31.1% of oil and gas reserve in the country, the state has no NNPC depot, no DPR or PPMC presence in the state which is why he has built Nigeria's seventh most tallest building named the Dakadda Towers with 21 floors to provide accomodations for investors and multinationals as well as the Luxury Estate which will be built to accommodate foreigners from all over the world.

He warned of great economic crisis due to the impending food scarcity occasioned by banditry and farmers/herders crisis that has impeded the ability of farmers to go to their farmlands to cultivate food, warning that with a country of over 200 million citizens, the looming food crisis is one national crisis that be better imagined than experienced and that the time to act is now.

On Power, he revealed that his administration is targeting power for all but regretted that despite producing enough power for consumption, the power so generated cannot be adequately transmitted to end users, and called on the federal government to rise beyond partisanship and grant him license to distribute the power generated by Ibom Power so that citizens and residents of the state can enjoy uninterrupted power supply.

"If the power Ibom Power generates is adequately distributed, Engineers in the power sector have assured me that my people would by now be enjoying up to 21 hours of power per day", he said.

He noted that if power is available, affordable and accessible to small and medium scale businesses, the average barber or salon owner will run his or her business at a reduced cost and make more profit.

He announced that his administration also made available an interest free loan of #2 billion for market women, announcing his intention to add more funds to it to make it a revolving loan to stimulate the growth of SME's in the state.

According to Governor Emmanuel, his vision is to ensure the state has a modern health system that will cater for the health needs of citizens and residents which explains why he has revamped and equipped ten General Hospitals in the ten federal constituencies and link it up to education which is why his government is investing massively in making education free at the basic level as modalities have reached advanced stage to make the Vocational Training Center in the state functional so as to equip students with skills needed to make them self reliant upon graduation.

On agriculture, Governor Emmanuel said the state is investing massively in encouraging people to cultivate vegetable and that a tomato processing plant has been put in place to ensure harvested tomatoes are processed and marketed to curb waste, improve storage and create wealth for farmers in the state.

Politics / Group Berates Aregbesola, Osun Defender For Accusing Oyetola Of Betraying APC by Oluwolex2000(m): 2:38pm On Jan 06, 2022
Group berates Aregbesola, Osun Defender for accusing Oyetola of betraying APC

…Urges them to cover their faces in shame

A socio-political group, Osun Shall Rise Again, OSRA, has berated a former Osun Governor and Interior Minister, Rauf Aregbesola, for accusing Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of betraying the All Progressives Congress, APC , just because he reviewed some of the policies that made the party almost lost the Governorship election in 2018.

Osun Defender, a local community Newspaper owned and financed by Aregbesola, had published a story “REVEALED: How And When Oyetola Abandoned APC Programmes To Please Omisore,” where it claimed that the policy review carried out by Oyetola amounted to abandoning party’s Programme to please Osun former deputy governor, Otunba Iyiola Omisore.

But OSRA described the claim as not only untrue but one calculated to mislead Nigerians, especially those who live outside Osun who may not be conversant with the realities on the ground.

In a statement issued by the Media Office of the group, OSRA noted that contrary to the claim by Aregbesola and his co-travellers, all the issues that reduced APC's popularity and made it struggle to win the governorship in the build-up to the 2018 governorship poll have all been addressed by Oyetola to the admiration of Osun people and have endeared the party to the people once more.

"From abolition of half salary to reversal of single uniform and revert to old names of the various schools, among others, Oyetola has won the hearts of the people,” the group said, insisting that how such action amounted to betraying the party beats their imagination.

“Recall that during the governorship debate, when Omisore was not even in the picture, after Oyetola practically struggled to defend the single uniform policy, he promised to take another look at it if the people wanted it to be looked into if he became the governor.

“Again, Aregbesola, had also hinted that he expected ‘Ileri to do things differently from him.’ And that if there were things he did not do well, the governor would liaise with the party to do it correctly. Or did Aregbesola also meet with Omisore before saying that ?

“Were the reports from Mr. Governor’s Thank You Tour and UK DFID Needs Assessment exercise were also influenced by Omisore?

“Rather than try to vilify the Governor, Osun Defender and Aregbesola should cover their faces in shame if they cannot commend Oyetola for helping to salvage the image of the party in the State by being more responsible in the governance the State even to the admiration of the opposition in the state.

“Everybody knows that Oyetola was not in the know of how APC reached out to Omisore in the build-up to the re-run election. I think Oyetola should be commended for managing Omisore up till the time he formally joined the party,” the group said.

Politics / A'ibom Automobile Assembling Plant 99% Completed - Hon Akan Okon by Oluwolex2000(m): 8:29pm On Jan 04, 2022
A'Ibom automobile assembling plant 99% completed - Hon Akan Okon

...Says vehicle assembling plant not same as vehicle manufacturing plant

The Akwa Ibom Automobile Vehicle Assembling Plant in Itu Local Government is 99% completed, the Akwa Ibom State Government has declared. Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport, Mr Akan Okon, who stated this while briefing the media as part of his annual End of the Year media Interactive Session said, contrary to what some segment of the public may think, the plant is ready and would be commissioned on schedule as all the components needed for the smooth take off of the plant is ready.

According to the Commissioner, Governor Udom Emmanuel remains passionately committed to completing and commissioning the plant on schedule and will leave no stone unturned towards the realization of these set objectives aimed at creating jobs and tackling unemployment in the State.

He regretted that majority of the public confuse a vehicle assembling plant to a vehicle manufacturing plant, stating that both are not the same.

"Everything to enable the automobile assembling plant carry out assembling of vehicles is ready. Note that there is a big difference between a vehicle assembling plant and a vehicle manufacturing plant. They are not the same. The assembling plant will receive completely knocked down components and couple them and for the Semi Knocked Down Components, SKD's, you don't need any other equipment than all the cranes that are on ground. When these components arrive from Israel, all what the plant will do is to fix it. All what we are waiting for is for the CKD's and SKD's to come from Israel", he explained.

According to Hon Okon, many people mistake it for a car manufacturing plant and were expecting to see a lot of robots in motion, noting that such components only apply to a vehicle manufacturing plant but for an assembling plant, almost half of the job has been done in Israel as what is coming to Itu in Akwa Ibom State are just components that are to be assembled so that it becomes a vehicle.

He assured the state that the administration's earlier plans to send the first batch of trainees to Israel to understudy and learn how to assemble vehicles so as to come back and become pioneer staff who will train other artisans is still on course, blaming the delay in departure of the would be trainees on the total lockdown that happened in Israel due to the surge in COVID-19 infections.

On Ibom Air, the Commissioner observed that the airline is today Nigeria's airline of choice due to its high level of professionalism, noting that Akwa Ibom's future and success on all aspect of it's economic life is dependent on doing the right thing consistently to achieve results using International best practices.

He debunked insinuations that Ibom Air is exorbitant, stating that Ibom Air remains the cheapest and most reliable Airline in Nigeria, compared to what is obtainable in Europe or in America.

"Even in Canada or the USA, a one hour flight is not less than $200 for an economy ticket but Ibom Air is just #50,000 for an economy ticket which is not even up to $100 but like the CR Jet that Ibom is using that is manufactured in Montreal, Canada, when they are taken for maintenance, it is the same MRO charge other airlines are paying that Ibom Air will pay, the same jet fuel they are using that Ibom Air is using but yet when we're back from maintenance, we are charging less than what is applicable in Europe and you can't compare a plane that is just 4-9 years old to others that are 20-30 years old", he stated.

He explained that Ibom Air is a business venture and must be managed as such which explains why no government official, can fly Ibom Air without paying for his or her ticket.

"Ibom Air is the cheapest. How much do you pay for a one hour flight in the US? How much do you pay for a one hour flight in Canada bearing in mind that when it is time for maintenance of the aircraft, the same place that Ibom Air will be maintained, is the same place other airlines will be taken to and they all pay in dollars?

"Ibom Air is offering world class services that is why it is the airline of choice of an average Nigerian air traveller", he noted.

He reiterated the commitment and determination of the Udom Emmanuel led administration to see to the realization of the Ibom Deep Seaport, stating that the seaport when completed will not only be the game changer for Akwa Ibom but will create an industrial revolution that is unprecedented in the history of Nigeria.

"Lagos is what it is because of the two ports it has, Apapa and Tin Can Ports. Ibom Deep Seaport will create a similar impact when operational", he submitted.

The Governor who stated this on Sunday at a Special Interdenominational Solemn Assembly to rededicate the state to God and usher in year 2022, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Uyo, called on Akwa Ibom to thank God for sustaining the state through challenges in recent years.

He cautioned persons aspiring for political office in 2023 not to heat up the polity, but rather go about it peacefully in order not to disrupt the peace and development in the state, adding that God in due time will reveal his successor

‘’This year all those who seek political office in 2023 will seek in peace and people should also realize that even if there are up to 100 people there is only one seat and one man will sit and as the homily said no matter what we do it is only the Lord’s council that shall stand’’, he stated.

Governor Emmanuel who rededicated the state to God, attributed the rising profile of Akwa Ibom State’s development and prevailing peace to God’s unfailing mercies and guidance.

He acknowledged the peace and development witnessed over the years in state, stated that the development attained in the state had been a collective contributions of illustrious sons of the state, assuring that in line with the theme of 2022, 'There Shall be a Performance' God will prosper the state in the new year.

In his words, "Every year we gather like this to seek the face of God, this State as we all know belongs to God that is why I refer to Akwa Ibom in my speeches as God's own piece of real estate.

"God is the great and mighty warrior who has never disappointed us as a state over the years through His love mercy and guidance which is why we have come here collectively as a people and as a state to thank Him for allowing us see the year 2022, for what He has done and what He will continue to do"

‘’What has happened in this state is what I call imprimatur of God's invisible hands; from the peace and development to the rising profile of our state as a destination of choice for investors, conferences to the sectoral achievements we have recorded which has earned us the national acclaim Nigeria's best kept secret. There is no doubt that God is doing great and mighty thing in the state’’.

He reiterated his commitment in delivering on his promises, stating that with some challenges earlier witnessed from climate change to other unforeseen issues all developmental projects in the state will be completed.

Hear him, ‘’The year 2021 was a difficult one from the harvests of deaths that we had to the manifestation of what scientists call climate change. People will agree with me that we have never seen such a rainfall like that of last year and the attendant delay of most of our road construction and other infrastructural expansion. We thank God that in spite of these factors coupled with the Covid-19, we have remained totally focus in fulfilling our governance obligations to the best of the resources available’’

He however called on Akwa Ibom people to take responsibility towards building the state. The governor who took the only Bible reading from Isaiah 60: 1-6, also led in Offertory Procession alongside Deputy Governor, Speaker Akwa Ibom House of Assembly and Secretary to the State Government.

In a related development, Governor Udom Emmanuel has called on all Akwa Ibom people to remain hopeful, trusting God for better days in the state and country at large.

He noted that in line with the theme of the state in 2022, ‘There Shall be a Performance’, God will reveal his successor in due time, adding that whoever God reveals as his successor will have the same confirmation without confusion.

‘’Our theme as a state is that ‘There Shall Be a Performance’ of what the Lord has told me as a governor, as a leader and if what God is telling you is different from what He is telling me it means it is not from God, it could be a personal opinion.

"But this year shall be a year of that performance of what God has told me including my successor. So if anybody mentions anything to you know that it is not from God it can’t be different from who God has told me and shown unto me", he stated.

The Governor advised detractors to desist from giving the state a bad image from peddling unverified reports and rumours on social media, pointing out that with the current trend of issues in the country, it calls for appreciation and gratitude to God for blessing the state especially throughout what the nation went through in 2020 and 2021.

Hear him, "What is happening in our state, a lot of people may not understand, Jesus Christ said hereinafter you will understand. A lot of people may not understand and we can pardon them, because so many people that write and talk in the social media, some of them are never exposed to what is happening around the globe so when they see things instead of giving thanks and all the glory to God, they say things that will not glorify God.”

Governor Emmanuel thanked the Anglican Communion Church, Uyo Diocese for their fervent prayers for the state and redeemed a pledge of N10 million in support of the building project of the Bishop’s house, and also donated a bus for Anglican Communion, Uyo Diocese Choir.

In his homily, the Bishop, Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion, Uyo Diocese, Rev. Prince Antai, who titled his message, ‘Faith that Activates God’s Promises’, culled his text from Gen: 12: 1- 3, enjoined Christian believers to live a life of obedience to God’s word and faith which will bring the will of God to pass.

‘’Faith is the ability to believe God without questioning God. When you obey God you will prosper, through the dark tunnel of obedience, the light shall shine. There is a specific miracle for those who obey God."
