Politics / Ipobâs Attack On Ekweremadu, Embarrassment To Igbo Nation â APC by OMECP: 6:49pm On Aug 18, 2019 |
Awka â The attack on the former deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu in Germany by suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has continued to attract reactions, with the South-East APC Young Progressive Forum saying such action was not in the character of the Igbo. â˘Senator Ekewremadu Leader of the group, Comrade Otimkpu Paschal said it was against Igboâs core values and respect for elders for IPOB members to treat Ekweremadu that way. He said: âThis is barbaric and unacceptable. The incident was an embarrassment to the Igbo nation and the country at large. âIt is also shamefully pathetic that an event, which was nobly put together by the Igbo community whose members make up the majority of Nigerians living in Germany, ended up in such a disgraceful manner. Obviously, this is not how to repay a man, who has contributed his quota to the nation -building. âIrrespective of political affiliation, Senator Elweremadu is an outstanding leader in Enugu and Nigeria and an unpretentious Igbo leader. âWe may not agree with him politically because of differences in parties, but this is the highest height of insult on Igbo leaders. Last time it was former Governor Rochas Okorocha at Chethamâs House London. Today, it is Senator Dr Ike Ekweremadu. âIt is most worrisome and even inconceivable that the attackers chose a great occasion where our people were celebrating and showcasing our rich cultural heritage (the New Year Festival) to exhibit such unbecoming and condemnable conduct in the name of agitation.â https://www.vanguardngr.com/2019/08/Igbos-attack-on-ekweremadu-embarrassment-to-igbo-nation-apc/ |
Politics / We Fought, Protected Buhariâs Human Rights â Amnesty International by OMECP: 3:08pm On Aug 11, 2019 |
ABUJA- THE embattled human rights organization, Amnesty International, AI, at the weekend, reminded President Muhammadu Buhari, and others of protecting their human rights from being abused when they were victimized and oppressed some years ago under military regime. Amnesty International This was made known by the Chairman, Board of Amnesty International, Nigeria, Auwal Ibrahim Musa, popularly known as (Rafsanjani), in a telephone chat with Vanguard. Rafsanjani also warned political office holders that they could be oppressed when they leave office by another political class because they would not be in power forever. He said: âWe cannot keep quiet because if we all keep quiet it will come to each individual and all, and if we donât speak out definitely we will be in trouble. We have to constantly remind them that they cannot continue to do this. âThese are people we also fought for their rights and like Punch Newspaper also did the analysis on how all these characters, what Amnesty International did for their situation when they were been victimized including President Muhammadu Buhari. âIt is just that they have short memory and they have forgotten today that they will leave power tomorrow and they can become victims of another political class and that is why organizations like ours which are not political, religious and not having any ulterior motives rather than protect the rights of everybody they want to attack us for that you are just doing harm to yourself because tomorrow you will discover that you will become victim of the same political class because Nigerian politicians witch hunt one another; today victim tomorrow they maybe the oppressor that is how it is with Nigerian political class and tomorrow they will now be looking for who to protect them.â He further stated and maintained that, âWe must sustain and continue with this effort. Some of us have been involved in this for the past 25 years, and anybody who knows us know we have been at this. âSo no shaking and no blackmail can stop us from doing what we are doing. People tell me to be careful and I said let them kill me and if they kill me I know I have not died a waste but I know have died for a course helping humanity. So if they like let them do that.â He also added that, âWe faced the military regime so why canât we face this civil government. I canât imagine how we have waged war against military dictators and now I will keep quiet for what? Is not possible.â Meanwhile, according to him more sanctions will be meted out to some political office holders as some are being denied visas while others who have been issued visas unknown to them their visas are cancelled by the American Government. âInternational bodies are set to issue their statement on this development and globally people are aware of what is going on and they are condemning it and this will be of great interest in the next coming days and if the state continues with this I can assure you that some officials will face sanctions. âAlready the American government is cancelling and denying visas to some of these corrupt people who are also perpetrating violence. Some of them are not aware that their visas are cancelled. So a lot of sanctions are likely to going to happenâ, he said. Lamenting the poor condition of protesters he described as âvictims of corruptionâ said nobody with legitimate work would engage in such venture to survive. âThe protesters are victims themselves who they pay N500 or N1, 000 to come and do this and poverty imposed on them by the state and is the same state that is giving them the same money to come and protest, and it is really sad because nobody who has legitimate doing will go and do this protestâ, he stated. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2019/08/we-fought-protected-buharis-human-rights-amnesty-international/ |

A security source told Vanguard that they released them on Wednesday evening. Released were Samuel Emiko and Alfred Timedi, ( Itsekiri) and Isaac Edinde, Henry Arogboritse and Kelvin Mordi (Ijaw), arrested by soldiers while on surveillance duty for a contractor to Chevron. Ijaw leader, Chief Godspower Gbenekama, who is among the leaders that raised dust over the arrest confirmed to Vanguard, âYes, I am aware that they released them on Wednesday night, I want to thank you people in the media for crying out for us.â âThe released workers were asked to report next Wednesday,â a security source, who also confirmed their release, told our reporter. He said: âThe 19th Battalion, Nigerian Army, Koko, handed them over to the Delta State Police Command, Asaba, from where they moved them to Bayelsa State and released them on Wednesday.â To avoid backlash against the company following a 72-hour ultimatum by its seven Gbaramatu-Ijaw host communities, top officials of Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL, which facilitated their freedom, met with their families, Wednesday, in Warri, and assured them that the company was handling the matter. Politics / BIAFRA: Kanuâs Detention, âtsetse Fly On The Scrotumâ âarchbishop Chukwuma by OMECP: 10:15am On Feb 26, 2016 |
Says Igbo ploiticians betrayed the people By Francis Igata ENUGUâ In a bid to buttress the need for spiritual intervention following Federal Governmentâs refusal to heed three subsisting Federal High Court orders granting detained Radio Biafra Director, Nnamdi Kanu, bail, Archbishop of Enugu, Ebonyi and Anambra States Ecclesiastical Province, Rt. Rev. Emmanel Chukwuma, yesterday, cautioned the Federal Government to tread softly on the issue given Niger Delta militantsâ threat to blow up more crude oil installations if Kanu was not released. The Niger Delta militants had a fortnight ago, warned the Federal Government to release the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOBâs leader who is being detained by the Department of State Services, DSS, on alleged treason charges or risk destruction of crude oil installations,a threat they have made good so far. This is even as journalists made frantic efforts to hold back tears that flowed freely as the cleric lamented that Igbo Senators and House of Representatives members who served as Senate Committee Chairmen on Works in both chambers and that of Federal Road Maintenance Agency, FERMA, under immediate past administration of President Goodluck Jonathan were busy buying private helicopters to fly across the âdeath trapsâ in form of roads dotting the south-east geo-political zone while scores of people perished on account of the deplorable condition of the roads. The Anglican cleric, while addressing newsmen at Bishopâs Court in Enugu yesterday, revealed that the clergy are in prayers for Godâs intervention to touch President Muhammad Buhariâs heart to release Kanu, adding that an escalated militancy on oil installations will be worse than Boko-Haram. According to Chukwuma, âPeople are saying Igbo do not have a leader. I can stand in for his release as a church leader. We do not believe in confrontation. Rather, everthing should be done through dialogue. Igbo do not have somebody to vouch and also stand and defend the course of Ndigbo. We believe very much in dialogue. We do not support violence. We believe that with dialogue, patience, understanding and listening ear of Buhari, there will be an understanding with which everything concerning the Igbo will be cleared. âThere are insinuations that Igbo have negative feeling against Buhari-APC-led government. There is nothing like that. We very much support Mr President, his anti-corruption crusade and all he is doing to make sure that stolen money is recovered. We equally believe that when this money is recovered, the south-east geopolitical zone will not be left out in the structural development of their area especially in roads, power supply, job opportunity among others. âWe believe that if we work together with the federal government,Nigeria will be salvaged. It is important that government implements last year national conference decisions. That will be of great help to us. South-East geopolitical zone is the most marginalized nationwide. We have been talking about an additional state. Itâs part of the problem we are facing. The religious leaders are standing firm in prayers for the present administration and also for Kanuâs release so that there will be peace. âWe are appealing to the president not to allow bad advisers make him vindictive and retaliative in certain areas which may jeopardize peopleâs impression about this government. We feel that its time to give Buhari a very good support knowing that he is the President of Nigeria and not the President of Northerners or APC. All Nigerians must therefore cooperate and work together to make this administration succeed. âOur interest is recognition and also being remembered in the development of Nigeria whereby our youths will be employed and there will be infrastructural development which will bring a palliative measure to our zone. âWe are pleading with Buhari to show compassion to our youths and also that of Nnamdi Kanu to see how the confidence of the south-east people will be restored. The Ohanaeze Ndigbo and Arewa Consultative Forum,ACF, should work together and ensure that nothing brings suspicion in our relationship. Buhari should be assured that all of the south-east are behind his government with support and prayers for Kanu to released. On Igbo saboteurs âThe Igbo never had it so good in terms of appointment during former President Goodluck Jonathan. For four years,a senator from Enugu-North senatorial district was chairman,Senate Committee on Works while his counterpart at the House of Representatives was equally chairman,House Committee on Works from the same Enugu State. âAgain, another House of Representatives member was House Committee Chairman on FERMA from Enugu State. What did these people do while in office? Nothing! The one from Enugu-North senatorial district bought helicopter and built mansions all over with our collective money. Yet he wanted to be a governor through the back door. The road in his area he flagged-off to connect Kogi-Abuja never saw the light of the day. The construction ended with the flag-off.â Read more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/02/biafra-kanus-detention-tsetse-fly-on-the-scrotum-archbishop-chukwuma/ |
Politics / Blasts Kill Seven In Maiduguri by OMECP: 11:08am On Oct 14, 2015 |
Blasts detonated by three suicide bombers in Maiduguri, Borno State, killed at least seven people on Tuesday, the Red Cross and a vigilante group member told Reuters. Explosive devices were detonated at Sajeri, a community on the outskirts of the city centre, at about 8:30pm local time (1930 GMT), said Baâana Musa, a member of a youth vigilante group that helped to evacuate people. âSeven dead bodies have been evacuated from the scene of the blasts,â said a Red Cross official. Maiduguri is the birthplace of the Boko Haram sect, which has killed thousands and displaced 2.1 million people since 2009 in its attempt to create a state adhering to strict sharia law in the northeast. The explosions are the worst attacks on the city since 54 people were killed and 90 injured in bombings three weeks ago. http://www.thenationonlineng.net |

Politics / S/west Is Nigeria's Kidnap Capital by OMECP: 9:59am On Oct 02, 2015 |
S-West is Nigeriaâs kidnap capital â Report on October 02, 2015 / in News, Special Report 4:59 am âA result of a recent survey it conducted shows that you are more likely to be abducted in the South West than any other region in Nigeria.â Contrary to the perception that kidnapping is more prevalent in the South East and South South geo-political zones, a recent survey shows that people are more likely to be kidnapped in the South West than any other region in Nigeria. The 2013 National Crime Victimisation and Safety Survey conducted by CLEEN Foundation with support from the United States based Macarthur Foundation shows that the South West has the highest incidents of kidnapping with 5 per cent of the respondents from the region saying they have either been kidnapped or attempts have been made to kidnap them. The South South and the South East closely follows with a 4 per cent kidnap rate. The region with the lowest rate of kidnapping is the North Central region with 2 per cent. Rape and Attempted Rape With a 10 per cent incident of rape or attempted rape, the South South region is the rape capital of the country followed by the North East (6 per cent) and the South West and North West (4 per cent each). The South East is the region with the lowest propensity for rape with just 1 per cent. The survey also shows that the national incidence of rape almost doubled from 3 per cent in 2011 to 5 per cent in 2013. Most of the respondents who claimed to have been raped said they were raped in and around their homes. Thirty-three per cent said they were raped nearest to their homes; 19 per cent were raped in their homes while 13 per cent of cases of rape occurred in schools or places of work. Robberies IGP-Solomon-Arase IGP-Solomon-Arase The survey shows that cases of robbery rose 1 per cent from last year nationally. Kaduna recorded the highest cases of robbery with 43 per cent closely followed by Akwa-Ibom 42 per cent and Cross River 39 per cent. Jigawa and Kano States recorded the lowest cases of robbery with 5 and 3 per cents respectively. The survey shows that more needs to be done about security in and around homes as 63 per cent of respondents said robberies occurred in homes or near to home. Physical Assaults South East states recorded the highest rate of physical assaults, the report showed. Enugu State had the highest cases of assault with 84 per cent, closely followed by Ebonyi (77 per cent) Rivers (58 per cent) and Anambra (50 per cent). The cases of physical assault in Abuja rose from 15 per cent last year to 24 per cent. However cases of physical assault dropped drastically in Niger State from 68 per cent in 2012 to 6 per cent this year. Also physical assault dropped from 23 per cent in 2012 to 8 per cent this year in Jigawa State. Meantime, an Akure Magistratesâ Court recently remanded a 25-year-old man, Taiwo Ebenezer, in prison for allegedly kidnapping a 21-year-old, Olayemi Olatunji. The Chief Magistrate, Mr Sunday Adedapo, who handed down the verdict, said Ebenezer should be kept behind bars at Olokuta Prisons in Akure pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). According to reports, the court did not take the plea of the accused in spite of efforts by his counsel, Mr Ademola Abemkemo to secure bail for him. The accused, whose address is unknown, is facing a two count charge of conspiracy and kidnapping. The prosecutor, ASP Pelumi Adejuwon, had earlier told the court that the accused with others still at large, kidnapped Olatunji. Adejuwon said the accused and his accomplices were armed with a gun, cutlasses and some other dangerous weapons when they committed the offences. According to him, the accused committed the offences on May 7 between 8.00 a.m. and 6. 00 p.m. at Ayeyemi Street, Ondo. He said the kidnap was, however, foiled when the victim raised an alarm which attracted passers-by who apprehended the accused. The offences, Adejuwon said, contravened Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ondo State, 2006. The offences also violated Section 3(1) of the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Abduction Law of Ondo State, 2010. The case was adjourned till June 22 for mention. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/10/s-west-is-nigerias-kidnap-capital-report/ |
