Education / Re: See What Happens In Our Public Examination? Girls Or Boys Need to change NOW! by Omodaraju: 2:01pm On Feb 12, 2015
You guys are merely scraping the surface of such a sad situation that has taken over the nation. I was shocked to my bone marrow when a friend told me that in some PRIMARY schools, pupils must be;

"guided" and allowed to finish ALL the exam questions irrespective of the time alloted for completion - infact exam papers are still worked on by pupils and teachers days after the official date for the subject

No pupil must score less than 90% in any subject

Do not grade by positions so that parents do not truly know how their kids are faring

This menace starts from the foundation and i sincerely pity parents whose kids are in primary school but are unable to check out the credibility of the teachers and the administrators who are in charge of their wards on a daily basis.

When you're chanced during the weekend, please have a look and cross check that your precious child truly knows what some lying teachers and thiefing school owners claim that he has been taught.

You may be lucky to catch and rectify a faulty foundation in the making

u are fine! I had only $40 on me cash at POE....rest of the money was on debit and credit cards

I am going to react to this. Please carry cash if you have got it, I noticed no ATM or PoS terminal at the Customs point when we landed. Simply put the CBP officer may not be convinced that you've got the funds for the payment since he can't see it immediately. A friend was turned back at Atlanta because she had a thousand usd cash on her and the officer didn't have any means to verify the funds she carried on her card.

Thanks Omodaraju, we just used dropbox for visa renewal, so there was no interview and I actually got pregnant a month or so after the application. We have not travelled on the visa at all, do you think I need to write still? Thanks. Please I don't know how to PM on this site yet so will catch up soon i hope, that is why i am replying so late.

Ok Kairi,

You could still write to inform them that you will access self-pay health services/ childbirth during your trip. that this notification is for them to update your details accordingly. I suppose you have the B1/B2 visa though.

Our gurus can assist with further information in this regards.

don't worry God has forgiven. I am flying emirates so I have learnt now that my fit to fly must contain as much info as possible. Thank God for a successful Poe. Have a safe delivery. Hope the dubai connect hotel was okay

I flew Emirates and one funny guy at the check-in desk had a problem with my fit to fly letter because it was just a day old. His supervisor came around and confirmed that the fit to fly was valid unless it is over a week. Please check their website or call them to confirm. Before the tsunami there were discussions around printing the fit to fly certificate form on Emirates website for use and one nairaland.com veteran suggested that it wasn't detailed enough.

As a guide though, get your doctor to write as much details as possible;

Gestation age or LMP
EDD
No of babies in there- singleton, twins etc
Mention that there are no complications whatsoever and there wouldn't be
That you are fit to fly by air
Put his signature and stamp (someone even mentioned practice no though that was debated)

Letter should be dated and be on hospital's letterhead

If you can't get all these from your doc, please fly Delta we were duly informed that they fly anything and anyone.

We used Delta. Think about other airlines or must it be only emirate?
My dear I won't advise a pregnant woman to do grey hound or megabus as the bus station may be another journey. Even changing to a local flight can be a herculean task as the boarding gates may be miles apart. They will also charge separately for checked in bags.

Sayo, put your comfort ahead of any other need since you don't want to go through houston POE. That emirate flight is long on its own. If emirate won't work consider Delta, Airfrance, BA, Turkish etc.

@ Comfort Baba Tvegas and Sayoberry. I definitely agree that the domestic flight will be more comfortable than the buses. However if she hasn't booked the domestic flight early enough, the costs may be too high when she it's closer to the date of travel. I was also letting her know the options from Dallas to houston as I deduced that she wants to avoid houston POE at all cost.
Flying direct from naija to houston may not cut it as the comfort derived may be eroded by the harsh grilling and treatment from the overzealous houston CBP officers. And I assume that emirates may be cheaper than some other airlines.

It's all love, please do your research and comfort versus cost analysis and pick what's best and safe for you.

Planning this American dream trip needs a lit of permutation and combination.

when she gets to the POE, she will be stamped 6months regardless of how many days left on her visa. the stamp matters not the visa expiration. So you are good to go

Ehn ehn, please advise with caution o. She may not be stamped 6 months. We have read on this thread of people stamped in for less for one reason or the other even with visas that are not close to expiration. There was one lady last year or early this year who went in through philadelphia and was stamped in for a shorter period and she had to exit the states and re enter shortly before her due date.

We can only hope that his wife will be stamped in to stay for the period she needs ceteris paribus

pls who kbows how i can book my emirates ticket for houston but poe will be dallas?

Emirates will fly you direct from dubai to Dallas or Houston. If you are avoiding Houston as your POE, you will have to use a domestic airline or mega bus or grey hound bus from Dallas to Houston.
I stand corrected but I doubt if an emirates flight will first touch down in Dallas and proceed to Houston thereafter.

The travel gurus can help us with that or you call EMIRATES office not all those agents with half baked info o.

All the best

Hi Omodaraju,

Please can you pm me more on this? I did not know you should write a letter of intent to give birth there?

Thanks,

Kairi,

The letter of intent was sent to the embassy because we got our visas for vacation purpose, in fact i wasn't pregnant at the time even though the VO asked me.
If you appeared at the embassy, and you declared that one of your reasons for seeking the visa was for childbirth, I don't think it is necessary for you to write any letter of intent.

Tnx a lot, so what were the questions like? Did you travel alone?

I traveled with hubby and son via emirates. Questions at POE include; why are you here?. How do you intend to foot the bills? Where will you be staying? Any documents? I also believed they tried to reach the obgyn and hospital on phone but it was pretty early in the morning.

They frisked our purses as well.

someone who got Visa for vacation purpose but later wrote the letter of intent for birthing should share her POE experience please and let me what documents to present.

Got visa with son and hubby April 3013 for vacation purpose. Didn't use it till June this year for birthing purpose. Sent the usual e-mail to the embassy in March notifying them of plans to birth baby in the US and got the generic response. Appeared at POE in Dallas with the embassy's response, obgyn's appointment and price quote, hospital quote received via mail, return tickets of course wink.

It's better to use a host relative

I wouldn't suggest using a host relative necessarily. What you want to prove to the VO is that you are independently capable of funding your birthing venture in the US and proof of ties to naija to show that you will come back.

Flaunting a host relative may mean that you have a willing accomplice should you decide to remain in the US IMHO

Profile free now after being banned (by anti spam BOT) for 1 day for posting names and contacts of several obgyns in houston hospitals.

I didn't read anywhere in the forum rules that posting such was illegal. I thot this thread was about sharing information freely. It's all love still

i tired contacting the Del sol Medical centre to get a letter from a physician there and they keep refering me back to Doctores Para ti. any ideas how else i can go about it?? if i got to Health grade and get a physician wount the person charge me differently? and if so wnt the physician want me to use the hospital he is domiciled? how i go do am?

Is there a specific reason why you want to use El-Paso (Del Sol) at all cost. I thought some thread members mentioned how flags were raised at the embassy about their package.

If you're going to Texas, there are other hospitals and doctors whose bills compare favourably as well. Do your research on the following hospitals;

West Houston Medical Centre
OakBend Hospital Richmond
Ben Taub
Houston Northwest
Houston Methodist

use google to check their websites and start to call or e-mail their doctors.

a friend just gave birth in new york, she entered the states with a visit visa and her visa expired some months back, pls house will her child get citenzenship? if there is a procedure for that, how will she go about it.
zeezahbee and others pls help out.

Please advice your friend to thread carefully. She should seek expert advice possibly from an immigration lawyer or any other person who is well informed about such issues.

I noticed all through my baby's documentation processing that the officials encountered checked both my visit visa page and the stamped date for me to leave the US.
They were checked at the point of getting birth certificate and US passport

@pattyreal.
Please can you share their experience. Am seriously considering emirates.
And anyone else that have used them, pls share

I used Emirates in june with my son and hubby to DFW via Dubai. It was 6-7 hours to Dubai, had a 19 hours sleepover - hotel room and eatover - breakfast, lunch and dinner ( arranged by Emirates called DUBAICONNECT).

Continued to Dallas DFW - 15 hours ONLY.
Then proceeded to Houston (since thread veterans had warned seriously about Houston POE)

Coming back, it cost me just about $70 dollars to re-route my flight to depart from Houston IAH. Visited Emirates office at Capital One Bank building to do that.

Flight to Dubai from Houston was quite full so we managed with a bassinet. Another 9 hours sleepover and dinner in Dubai.

However I and my baby had 2 seats for the Dubai - Lagos leg of the trip. The men around us were bounced because two of us had babies.

A bassinet was provided as well as i requested for it when i went to re-route my ticket. Baby fare is also about $60.

please you say: @be detailed in your preparation", what are documents invovled? what do we need handy?
please help with as much details as you can remember

I carried the following documents;

Doctor's appointment letter (e-mail correspondence)
Doctor's quote/ cost proposal (stated in e-mail)
Hospital fee information document = Hospital letter head
Letter to embassy informing them of plans to give birth because visa was obtained before pregnancy
Fit to fly letter

i am not sure i left out anything, you could carry more if required. The officer checked everything and even frisked my handbag and hubby's wallet for other currencies apart from the USD.

I used this thread to plan our trip from start to finish and even though my baby is over three months old now, i still find myself visiting periodically.

please what consent letters? A letter from husband/father?

When we applied initially with only my husband's consent letter - our application was returned with a sticky note on it requesting for mother's consent letter.

Then My husband and I wrote. Even though my friend insisted that it should have only been the father.

Trust me, that costed some extra dollars to resend.

Also for Dallas POE -

Be very careful and detailed in packaging your supporting documents for your birthing Adventure. My husband, son and I had an interesting experience over there in June this year with a racist white immigration officer.

Thanks to my dedication to this thread since October last year, i had an entire envelope for supporting documents and adequate cash as recommended by this forum.

After 15 mins of delay over there at DFW (secondary inspection after we had all been stamped in for 6 months at the first desk) - the white guy said "I can't believe they let them do this, just because they can afford it"

If you're going through dallas, still be detailed in your preparation.

I just want to chip in a bit of information to help people who will be having their babies in Houston.

- Concerning Nigerian Visa for baby.

Note; You do not need to pay any agent for your baby's Visa as I got mine within 2 days via USPS - US Posting Service

Please check the Nigerian Consulate - Atlanta website and follow the steps exactly as they are stated and provide all the required documents for processing. Having filled all necessary forms and made payment of the application fee - please print payment confirmation

Do not forget also to buy money order (I used a bank inside walmart) for the processing/ admin fees as stated

Package the completed forms, money-order, baby and parents documents, passports, don't forget consent letters etc.

Go to the nearest USPS Station with the package.

Pay for Priority Mail Express Overnight delivery - Two way so your response comes back to your address of choice (One self addressed envelope will be put in the package for this).
