U can please say a prayer for tomorrow to be my testimony day cos I'm leaving tuesday.
Thanks again

Hello LadyG,

I don't know if you've got the Pta issue sorted. First bank head office marina is selling. But it's selling out fast like hot puff puff. Another issue is that you will get $1 bills (you read right don't worry).

Alternatively, they can load your Visa gold card tied to your domiciliary account.

And a break down of their fees and if possible cheap nearby accomodation and the accomodation's email tongue

That means they will soon ask for money for the missionary journey then. I can't shout

USA has 50 states but no one wants to do homework. All the answers are on Nairaland, just come, collect expo buy ticket and jet off. Una don start with Dr. E, next thing the woman will vex close shop.

It will surprise all of you the info available in Thread 1. It's like the goldmine of information, some prices may have changed, but its a good start when researching.

Even Houston, Texas hasn't been scratched because sisters and bros are not willing to research. I only hear a few stretched doctors for Oakbend and WHMC.

E-Friends,

1. If you have access to Nairaland then luckily, you have access to Google. Quietly visit the websites of WHMC, Oakbend, HNMC etc that people have told us their Hospital fees are pretty straightforward and pocket friendly.

2. Go to the Hospital Website, Select or Search for OBGYNs that are affiliated to that hospital
3. Get the phone numbers of their practice. Honestly, you won't spend 3000 naira on phone cards before you have one, two, three doctors that are ready to send you correspondence via mail, appointment via mail and detailed breakdown of the Obgyn fees and other birth related fees.

In my case,
Appointment 1 - over the phone, then told the lady i spoke with to send an appointment confirmation through email. They were also willing to confirm all the estimates in the mail

Appointment 2 - I was told to log in to their patient portal and register. I did and the confirmation was sent to my mail.

Both were presented at POE to show the billing estimates I heard. In actual fact both Drs haven't been mentioned on this thread and the prices are within the popular range we see on this thread.

Caveat - please don't bother to send PMs as i am not good at replying them because of my busy schedule.

Please can people reply me on this thread? Since I was directed here a few wks ago, I have gathered all d info on change of intent, POEs to avoid, good doctors and all... I did not ask any unnecessary questions and I did the research myself. Now I need to leave soon and so far in all my reading havent really found hospitals cheaper than oakbend. If you know one could you just drop the name (not cost or quote or number) so I can google d rest and contact them? we know how the thread is I have looked through alot of the convo...all the parts, but hospital names come up very randomly and I can't just know if ts cheaper or not. So if you know, please help. thank u and God bless you.

Hi ccurrie, Check out HNMC - Houston Northwest Medical Center or WHMC - West Houston Medical Center. Bear in mind though, that it is the combination of Obgyn, Hospital, Lab, Nursery, Paed, Epidural fees etc. that determines whether the entire package is cheaper or not. But i hope this info can help with a shorter research period. You will have to do a bit of calling to get a combo that is fair for you.

All the best

Hello Wonderful people,

I don't mean to derail the thread, but i have a strong urge to put this word out there. If for any reason you decide to stay with a friend or relative for free instead of getting a paid apartment, try to show some courtesy or love to your hosts. Some of the few things they may appreciate amongst other things;

- Carry some naija foodstuff for them when you're going
- You can assist with $50 for groceries every month depending on your pocket ( drinks, water, tissue paper etc. from Walmart)
- Help them with a reasonably sized bag on your way back to naija for their folks back home.

My close pal who hosted a family free of any charge (Mum and Toddler - approx. 3 months, hubby and new baby - short while) had painful stories to share about their time with her. I choose to believe her because we're about 4 preggo pals that have stayed with her to date

Her guests wash and dry their dirty clothes every night when she has gone to bed despite her telling them to wait till saturdays when she has free electricity.
Not a dime ever spent to buy anything for the house - they will even consume her toddlers small-size juice (snacks for day care) whenever there's no soft drink in the house
According to her - they eat full three square meals (LOL) every single day. If she runs out of meat/ fish for any reason, expect the eggs to begin to evaporate in threes.

Loads of complaints that i don't have the time to type. However, the one that "pained" her the most, was their refusal to help her bring anything down to Nigeria for her folks.

I think a lot of nigerians abroad just love people to help them pick a bag or two when returning to nigeria, it seems as if they look forward to it.

I have read how some peoples questions and worries were handled here and that is why i posted mine too.please stop discouraging those who honestly want to help. Thanks

You were able to lie with ease at the Embassy that you weren't pregnant at six weeks gone. You should be able to come up with defences that will conquer POE (even IAH - the best of them all).

I'ld advice you to be careful in trying to make this work. If you're "lucky", the CBP officer will search and look through all the pregnancy related records in your bag or scroll through your phone or tablet for preggie related information. All in the bid to puncture holes in your story

To err is human...

Madam, unpack your things and repack like four times. Then have repeated looks at the cute things you bought for the little one you're expecting. Take a walk when you have the energy, it helps set baby in position for delivery. If you've got Netflix or YouTube, watch plenty films, the days will run by faster.

Bottom line, be careful how you search for company, you can't trust people anyhow whether in Osun or Texas. Are you sure your hosts are open to you receiving strangers in their home?

All the best dear, just be patient your perfect company will soon be here

What brand do you recommend abeg! I don't trust all those oyinbo women singing praises of medela electric breast pump. An African woman's breast is different and that medela is quite expensive undecided

I've got an evenflo double breast pump (electric) with an handsfree pump holder to give out for free. I also have loads of playtex bottle liners as well as several sterile breast milk storage bottles to give out. Any interested mom that can access Marina, Lagos Island area can PM me so we discuss how she can pick them up from my office.

Please help answer this question in details. My cousin needs guidance on this.

What exactly do you need to take back to the embassy if the VO has held on to your passports and requested that you return with a birth plan. Is it just the travel budget sheet.

If anyone has encountered this issue, please assist

My baby is crawling now, but i still look into this thread almost on a daily basis. For houston-bound moms lemme help you a little with names of docs. You will use google to get their numbers because of nairaland policy on sharing numbers. At least you can narrow your search before you go and pay anybody to sell information to you that is otherwise free

From my research -

For Houston Northwest Medical Center

Search - Obgyns John Alaniz, Jonathan Hulme, Can Duong, Anita Fulton, John Williams, Nicolas Xydas, Jose San Martin, Michael Kelly, Faunda Campbell and group , Jennifer Nguyen, Bih Ndofor

For Oakbend

Popular Dr Funsho Fagbohun, Cherian Sabina, Ezekiel Abumeze, Brian Heaps, Nelson Sarah, Dama Ziwotirin, Cynthia Rios

For WHMC,

Drs Huynh Jeanie, Michael Amaro, Gilbert Sayegh, Howard Scheiber, Elvis Torres, Tammy Vu, Bai-Quoc Core La, Christian Webb, Magdy Rizk

some were willing to correspond by mail better than others while i was searching, Dr La, Webb, Rizk,

All the best, I have all their phone numbers that i copied during my research but was banned once while trying to post them on the forum. I have also attached it as a spreadsheet before to save time for the "lazy" oh sorry "busy" ones on the forum.

Thanks for the info TeesMom. I'm a September Mum hoping to birth in either Dallas or Houston. Just started my research so will get back with the details asap.

I am awaiting feedback from Dr. Fagbogun and Dr. Esedebe. So far they are the only ones I have gotten in touch with.

Thanks to everyone else who has in one way or the other contributed to this forum. You guys have been of immense help to us newbies.

You can contact Dr Nicolas Xydas at Houston Northwest Medical Center, a friend used him last year and i was considering him as well. His fees were about $2,200 at the time. You can check his phone number on google.

Have you tried several times and have been
refused VISA without knowing the reason for the
Visa refusal?

You're joking abi? or you mistakenly stumbled on this thread. People have been taught how to avoid agents here, its Do - It - Yourself all the way to the embassy - POE - US hospital and finally back to naija with your American baby(ies).

Try PG hospital, baltimore, Maryland. Total fee a friend paid was between 6500 and 7000 for childbirth in 2014.
If you're thinking of flying at over 36 weeks, consider Delta airlines, i heard they don't care how far gone your pregnancy is. I can only hope with you that labour doesn't start in the plane.

cheers

Madam google PG Hospital Maryland, it's within the 6k - 7k range for Obgyn's fees and hospital. You can contact them to get detailed info on paper to be presented at the border if asked.

Whatever you do, prepare adequately to defend yourself before any CBP officer.

You can travel before your visa expires, the important thing is that you get to poe before the expiration date. Its the cbp officer at poe that will ditermine how long you are allowed to stay in America.

Hehehe, this was the mighty battle between Babababy (if my memory serves me well) and co last year before the tsunami. As he said then, your Visa just needs to be valid till you land at a US border for an officer to stamp you in. How long he stamps you in for is based on his discretion.

We have to "unlearn" and learn everyday outside the four walls of schools/ colleges to improve ourselves.
