Thanks. I use a Samsung note but I want to switch and join the iPhone gang. I just want to know which makes more economical sense buying it here or buying it in Canada.

Career / Re: What Are The Career Options For A Lawyer Migrating From Nigeria To Canada? by omolomolarinero: 4:24pm On Sep 27, 2019
Romeoefe:
There are Nigerians that are lawyers here. The truth is when you immigrate to Canada and you have a career that is restricted, be ready to start from the bottom and begin to build yourself. Some of us Nigerians only believe on getting degree without having the true knowledge and also the factor of get it reach is also with us. The different between Nigeria and Canada is that you don't need anybody to be who you want to be in life. I immigrated 3yrs ago and I will tell you that I am not regretting it even when it was difficult at the beginning. I graduate as an Agriculturist but never work with it in Nigeria and my wife graduated as a Biochemist but never worked in that profession. I presently work in the IT industry even when I do not have any software experience before leaving Nigeria and my wife work with the Canada Federal Government. When you are ready to start small and pay the price for leaving your country, you will always get to where you want at the end. When I arrive I meet so many Nigerians and most of them keep saying I am here because of my children but I told myself I am here because of myself first follow by my children. I started as a security guard, move to investigating and where I am at present but I know my God have a high place for me and my family. Just be ready not to give up what is your dream and putting God first you will make it. I was receiving USD in Nigeria as I was working in the sea but since my father is not a politician who have stolen, I decided to leave and after 9months of taking the decision the company when down.My advise do not expect to be a manager or a lawyer on arrival but if that your dream you can do it. May even cost you going back to school.

You made so much sense, Thanks. Can you suggest fields one can change careers to in Canada? I studied English and I really want to change career from just bng a teacher.

NA you would be paid while learning, don't be scared. some apprentice are paid above minimum wage

Good enough! Thanks.

Next question, which is better buying a phone from Nigeria or buying from telecom companies after landing. I have always been of the opinion that it's better to buy in Canada since the payment plan will be spread for 2 years but a landed friend argued that its better buying from Nigeria. Seniors, what do you think?

Thanks.. Is it just my masters am to evaluate?? Pls kindly assist me with links or explanation on how to go about with the evaluation...plus can employment letter and NYSC discharge serve as reference letter??

You evaluate your highest degree which in this case is your master's degree. Your masters can be evaluated by either of these bodies ICES, WES, IQAS and CES. People have been using CES lately because of its faster time-line and WAEC isn't needed. Employment letter only shows proof of work, your reference letter shows proof of work, nature of work, duties, hours of work and the likes. Read more on what a reference letter contains. To the best of my knowledge, I don't think discharge letter can serve as a reference letter.

If you are no longer interested in the education route, and do not want to spend a long time in school, your options would be to go for a diploma or masters in a technical (e.g Civil) or IT field. Trades are good because you only attend college for maybe 2 to 3 months in a year for 3 to 4 years while still getting paid. Most trades pay a decent wage and there is demand. Go for whichever one sparks your interest.

However, do not waive your education qualifications aside. It might still be useful in the future. I am thinking of getting a certificate now in Education via online studies even though I am on an Engineering career path..

Thanks, these are the kind of options I'm looking for. Now I will do a personal research on which will be more beneficial to me in the long run between a diploma in a field or trades.

Thanks

Please am new here, interested in the express entry program. I need a guidance on how to start, am i suppose to create my profile first or reg for IELTS? i hv a masters in pharmaceutical microbiology and a 1 year 10 months experience working in an NGO (diff NGOs) plus my NYSC was in a school as a teacher.. Pls wat shld my NOC be?

Please take it one step at a time. I will suggest you start in this order... Evaluate your masters degree, while that is on, register and pass ielts with the required band scores. Before you complete these two, your job experience will be over 2 years which gives you a better chance to get an high CRS point. Do not bother about NOC at this stage!

Please do your research and decide before leaving Nigeria, it can be hard to get papers sorted from here...and please dont ask me further questions oh, I am not a teacher and cant give detailed explanations.

Thanks thanks! just so you know I'm not a qualified teacher i.e I dnt have the necessary certificates to become a professional teacher... Na the way naija be push person into teaching, I don't think I want to continue as one. Thanks all the same.

salford:

In addition, high paying would also depend on the employer. Just like companies in Nigeria, some employer pay good coins while others pay little..

Thanks for your input oga Salford. Pay is a good thing to worry about when I have the certificates and qualifications. The mobility from an employer to another is going to be easier and maybe unending.

AZeD1:

If your plan is any good high paying job, you are going to have a very hard time.
Medicine, Law, Software Development, Trades (plumbing, HVAC, Auto Mechanics) are all high paying jobs but you have to do the initial work.

The initial work shouldn't be a problem as the desire to switch career is high. Medicine, law etc are long things, they take years to complete. I'm looking at the possibility of trades and other related blue collar jobs that might not necessarily take years to get certifications for.
Thanks

Hi seniors, I will be landing in Alberta next year and I would love to choose a new career path. I have been a class room teacher for the past 3 years. I studied English for my first degree then Peace and Strategic studies for my masters. My experience and degrees in the best of my knowledge can't land me any good paying job in Canada. So I'm wondering if you all could suggest an high paying diploma course, certifications or trade work that is in high demand that I can quickly study for.
Thanks

Hello. I am also thinking of relocating to the UK via study visa with my wife and infant. In which she would be dependent on me and work full time.
My fears: how do we pay bills and education once we land there. And also plan to continue studying (PhD)so as to lengthen our stay there. Are the plans sustainable?

UK is a no no for now until they change their immigration policies. I'm sure you know that you will be required to return to Nigeria after your study and u might have to process your UK student visa for PhD from Nigeria. Asides that, it's going to be quite difficult to secure a visa for your wife and kids especially when the plan is for them to depend on you. From the foregoing, the plans are not sustainable. I I will advise you to consider neighboring countries with friendlier immigration policies: countries like Ireland and Switzerland are better alternatives.

Canada is the best bet but Canada isn't as easy as people think. May I ask how old you are and the ages of ur kids? Again, what qualifications do you have? How much are you also willing to commit to the journey abroad? Canada is a bit tricky if you are really on the old side and have no access to funds. Europe is a better alternative once u can pursue an English speaking country.

I was wondering what you meant by 8-plug engine tweaked to use 4 plugs.

What you have there is a complete engine swap. You have nothing to worry about if the swap was professionally done.

I would advise you to use the vehicle with an open mind and faith that it will serve you without problems.

Apart from oil leakages here n there and loose wires.. It looks good

seemingly as a swap was done, this engine is not bad...albeit it's for an older model

but I'm actually worried about ur mechanic

the one that sees an i4 engine and tells u it's a v8 shocked

the earlier u sack him the better

a word is enough for the wise

enjoy ur ride

Thank you very much, I'm just not happy with the fact that an older engine is installed. But since it's bn certified good will use it with an open mind hoping that the engine was installed properly

Thanks bro. This is the picture of the engine bae... Is it a V6 or v8 or a v4 whatever it is called

If it was done properly, what you have in that engine bay is a die hard engine.

Thank you vary much oga. However, the engine bay doesn't look clean enough and that's what scares me cos there are unconnected wires and oil Leakeages here and there. Will get a good mechanic to help me look into the Leakeages before it hits the road. Thank you

Your engine is not a V8, Nissan V8 can't fit inside that engine bay neither would a Toyota V8 and that's not a 1969 Camaro SS V8 engine either.

looking at your engine critically I did say it's a Z series engine fitted into the King cab (1980s to 199x) this particular version never got it. The main reason I said that is if you zoom where the Nissan is inscribed on the engine there is Z there, I have seen the Z engines too but without the carburetor cover. if truly that is a Z engine oga you have one of the most die hard engine to ever grace the forest of Southwest. That guy would comfortably pull 2tons uphill.

Thanks. I guess that means the engine won't give me much of a problem. It's high time I ditched my mechanic for telling me v8 tweaked into v4. Already confirmed from the dealer if truly he changed the engine from a diesel to a petrol engine. I can only hope it lasts and not break down in the middle of a forest

Hello everyone, I'm in a fix right now. I purchased a Nissan truck from a family friend who imports vehicles from Belgium. He sent me pictures of the truck and we agreed a price. When it landed in Nigeria one of his boys went to pick it up and was brought down to my house. After few days I brought my mechanic to look it up cos I realized oil was leaking beneath. To our surprise, we realized the truck came with a diesel engine and was changed to a petrol engine in Nigeria. As if that isn't enough, we realized the engine put in is a v8 engine and was tweaked to use 4 plugs. The vehicle drives fine but I'm scared it might develop a major fault in future. I don't have a major problem with the engine change to a petrol engine, I need gurus in the house to explain to me how reliable a v8 engine tweaked to use 4 plugs can be

Never had a car engine changed and this diesel to petrol engine is entirely strange to me but he has assured me it's gonna serve its purpose my only fear remains the issue of v8 to v4 whatever that is

omolomolarinero,b4 the experts starts pouring in great ideas,if i may ask, were you aware of the car being diesel and v8 engine before you paid for it? If yes,did u accent to its changing from diesel to petrol as well as the tweaking from v8 to v4 ??

Well, he only sent the pictures to me on whatsapp and I like it's body built cos it's meant to be used to for farm errands. It's not the first time he's getting me a vehicle, what I do is to see pictures and send him money. Most times the vehicles get to Nigeria in two months. On this particular occasion, I saw the pictures, he said its a v4 engine and I paid for it January
