author=jflower06 post=128823788]I will implore you to do the following:
1. Relax your soul, spirit and body
2. The loan providers will only threaten but cannot kill you. So, have it in mind that you will pay them as soon as things get better.
3. If possible, get another sim
4. Go back to the drawing board and start all over again. Its never too late.
Sir, i once had both primary and secondary school and both collapsed due to covid- 19. I was seriously in debts to both Lapo and some loan apps. Mind you, i am a father of five great boys. I have to cut down my finances by taking the kids to public schools and move to my family house. I was helpless and hopeless but God saw me through. The dust is settling gradually.
Please, its not over for you. Let this situation makes you stronger and bigger.
I will suggest you do the following:
Design and start sharing E- posters on your own home tutorial services so as to get better income and i bet you, if you are really good in what you fo, the sky is just the beginning for you.
I did exactly what you are doing right now but to no success. Go and check my posts. Some people will insult you and bruise your personality. Someone even asked me to drop my account details only for me to later discovered that he only used it to get my full name for mockery .
Please man up, keep moving, stay focused and be prayerful.[/quote]
Thank you so much, this quit helpful. God bless you sir.

Good day family
I am really in a terrible situation at the moment. I was scammed with a job last year. I actually resigned from my teaching job to start the new job, after some months I discovered the job can not start operations anytime soon
I'm a family man, through out this period, I relied mainly on loan apps to talk care of my family hoping that as soon I start getting salary from the factory, i will pay off the loan apps.
As at this moment, things are getting worse, haven't even paid my last child school fee. Feeding the family is a problem.
My major problem is the sleepless nights I'm having just thinking of my debt. The calls and messages from the apps have forced me to switch off my phone. The guilt of not been able to pay back is really eating into me. I have sought for help from family and friends, no help, the country is tough.
I don't even have anything negative in my mind, but slowly and naturally, my mental health is at stake, I'm currently teaching in a jamb PREPARATORY center, the money from there is insignificant ,the situation I am into is not even allowing me to give in my best
Please, what is the best way to go about resolving the issue with the loan apps. I'm very optimistic that something good will come up soon , and my inability to fulfill the promises of paying back is diminishing my optimism and i am beginning to see myself a failure and disappointment to my family and the students i have had the privilege to mentor.
I can't even on my phone for the fear of messages and calls from the apps. Please, if God also put it in your heart to assist, I don't mind, I'm just holding on to anything that can make me survive this difficult moment. Thank you

Politics / 2019: The Rotimi Amaechi Scenario Will Not Recur In Rivers by omon24(m): 6:40am On Jan 06, 2019
By Ejike Wobodo
IN the past weeks, several insinuations and arguments have dominated the air about a possible repeat of the Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi scenario of 2007 in Rivers State, where he became governor without participating fully in the governorship election.
Senator Magnus Ngei Abe, a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State, is challenging the nomination of Mr Tonye Cole as the candidate of the APC. Abe wants the Federal High Court to declare him the candidate of the APC for the 2019 governorship election in the state.
Apart from the manifest dissimilarity in the facts and circumstances of both cases, the Chibuike Amaechi situation is such that can never happen again, having been prohibited by Constitutional Amendment.
After the Supreme Court in 2007 declared Amaechi governor of Rivers State relying mainly on the principle, “ubi jus ubi remedium”, the National Assembly felt it was a rather too benevolent remedy to allow a person who did not fully take part in the rigours of an election to become a governor. Therefore, in the Fourth Alteration cited as Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (Fourth Alteration No.21), 2017, the National Assembly amended the Constitution.
Section 285(13) of the Constitution (as amended) provided thus: “An election tribunal or court shall not declare any person a winner at an election in which such a person has not fully participated in all stages of the election”. This section should put that speculation to rest.
The next few points that Abe’s legal and media team have deliberately hidden from their supporter and the public are the issues of the timing of the case and jurisdiction of the Federal High Court to entertain same. My arguments here are made without prejudice to the various submissions that have been canvassed at the Federal High Court.
The best way to drive home my position is to take a liberal stand point that tilts the facts to the side of Senator Abe. In other words, assume all the facts are true from Senator Abe’s stand point. Having said that, it is as important to also assume and highlight that Senator Abe’s case is a Pre-election matter which has been regulated by time in the same Fourth Alteration. Section 285(9) of the Constitution. The section says that such matters (pre-election matter) must be commenced not later than 14 days from the event, decision or action complained about.
Firstly, if Abe insists that his “parallel primary” is the correct one, then his cause of action arose against APC the day following the primary where APC recognized Tonye Cole’s primary election instead of his; Senator Abe’s cause of action against INEC arose the day APC submitted Tonye Cole’s name to INEC and INEC received it. The question you should ask and answer yourself is whether Senator Abe’s case was within 14days from these dates? The limitation of time in pre-election matter is not just created by an ordinary statute but by the Constitution itself.
Secondly, if Abe in his case, made a slip by mentioning Tonye Cole’s name as he actually did, he puts his case into a tighter legal corner. It becomes obvious that he was aware of the Primary election that produced Tonye Cole, especially in view of the fact that his name featured also as an aspirant in that primary election. So, his 14 days within which to challenge the outcome of that primary began to run from that day. Again, ask and answer it yourself, did Senator Abe file his case within 14 days from that day?
Where he fails to make reference to Tonye Cole or the primary that produced Tonye Cole, he raises an obstacle of locus standi for himself. By reason of Section 87(9) of the Electoral Act, only an aspirant who participated in a primary election can question the outcome. Can he actually and legally speaking pray the court to displace Tonye Cole as candidate of the APC without mentioning Tonye Cole’s name, even in a single paragraph?
On jurisdiction, does the Federal High Court really have the jurisdiction to entertain that matter in view of the fact that: (1) Senator Abe is challenging APC’s refusal to recognize him as the candidate, and where the only relief against INCE is ancillary? This is having regards to the recent decision of the Supreme Court in Suit No. SC/384/2017: Stella Oduah vs. Senator Margery Chuba Okadigbo & Ors (judgement delivered on 01/06/2018); and (2) more so where Senator Abe is not challenging “any primary election of the APC” for non-compliance with the provision of the Electoral Act. It is only a challenge of non-compliance that confers jurisdiction on the Federal High under Section 87(9) of the Electoral Act to hear a pre-election matter bothering on Primary election.
If he is challenging non-compliance, is it possible that he could successfully conclude that case without mentioning to the court which primary election exactly that did not comply with the Electoral Act or any other prescribed guideline? If he does, it brings his cause of action again to the date of the indirect primary that produced Arch Tonye Cole. It is indeed a vicious circle that cannot be corrected or avoided.
Did Senator Abe’s case pass these unassailable and established tests and positions of the law?
From all legal indications, Abe is no longer fighting to become Governor in this dispensation, after all he is a lawyer and legislator, who should have full understanding of the development and reforms in the Nigerian Electoral Laws. I therefore tend to agree with the school of thought that argues that Senator Abe is only working to scuttle the chance of the APC, to enable Governor Nyesom Wike return. That way, there will be a third chance for him (Senator Abe) to attempt again in 2023. The argument is that should Tonye Cole win and probably run for a second term, Senator Abe would have been out of political scene long enough to make him lose supporters and political relevance. For them, Abe is merely playing a spoiler role.
S-Court Ruling: Optimistic Cole Sensitises Voters In Rivers
Although this alleged plot may not be far from the truth, it certainly has not taken into consideration the unseen factor (God) and the lessons of yesteryear. In 2015, it was the same agenda and plot: “If Dakuku Peterside fails, then there will be 2019 for Senator Abe to attempt again”. Guess what, that hour planned and hoped for is here with us, but has it brought the expected fortune? The answer is in the negative. It did not, instead it threw up Tonye Cole. So, when planning to repeat the same thing in 2019, hoping that 2023 will bring you another fortune and opportunity, have you spoken to God or have you assumed or written off His position in the affairs of men?_https://www.vanguardngr.com/2019/01/2019-the-rotimi-amaechi-scenario-will-not-recur-in-rivers/

Politics / Gov. Ugwuanyi Will Surely Hand Over To Nkanuland In 2023 – Awkunanaw People by omon24(m): 9:36pm On Jan 04, 2019
The people of Awkunanaw clan comprising 21 autonomous communities in Enugu South and Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State have presented ‘Ofo’ to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as a symbol of their solidarity and endorsement of his re-election bid and proclamation of more successes in his political career.
They said that Governor Ugwuanyi, who is seeking re-election in 2019, to complete his second term as allowed by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, is the only governorship candidate the people of the state are sure will leave office in 2023 for power to rotate to Nkanuland, Enugu East Senatorial District.
The event which took place at Obuoffia square, the ancestral home of Awkunanaw, as part of the activities marking the Awkunanaw Day celebration, also witnessed the conferment of a Chieftaincy title of “Omereoha of Awkunanaw” on Governor Ugwuanyi by the traditional rulers of the autonomous communities.
Presenting the ‘Ofo,’ the Chairman of Awkunanaw Traditional Rulers’ Council, HRH Igwe Felix Nwobodo Ani said “the traditional symbol of authority represented our solidarity and support for the governor to triumph over any obstacle that may come against his re-election bid.”
The monarch further stated that the people of Awkunanaw were happy with the governor for his infrastructural development in the area, pointing out that the newly constructed road that leads to Obuoffia was remarkable being the first road project executed in the community.
During the Awkunanaw Day, the jubilant people of the various communities who gathered in their numbers to witness the cultural event, irrespective of political affiliations, told the governor that they “are pleased with the good works you are doing for our people” and consequently deserves their full support and recognition.-www.vanguardngr.com

Politics / Ibori Endorses Gov. Okowa’s Re-election Bid by omon24(m): 9:21pm On Jan 04, 2019
A former Delta Governor, Chief James Ibori says Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa deserves a second term to sustain peace and developments in the state.
Ibori said this in his goodwill message on Friday when the State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) commenced its 2019 elections campaign for governorship and other candidates at Oghara Township Stadium, Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area.
He said that Okowa had performed creditably and had kept the peace and unity in line with the political mandate of the people of the state.
Ibori urged the Anioma people of the state to take up the challenge of ensuring the return of Okowa for a second term in office in March.
He said that Okowa had performed exceptionally, saying that he (Okowa) understood the political arrangements and had kept faith by honouring the political leaders of the state.
The former governor said that Okowa deserved a second term in office and urged all Deltans to support his governorship re-election bid.
“I have no doubt in my mind that the governor has done exceedingly well. He is confident, capable, knowledgeable, intelligent and have the capacity to rule the state for a second term.
“Okowa belongs to this political family and he has all it takes to lead.
“I am indeed very pleased with you because when I was away, in 2015 you (Okowa) started your campaign here and today you have returned to commence your campaign in Oghara.
“That tells me that you (Okowa) know the political history of this state and I (Chief James Ibori), as the head of the political family in Delta, I declare and decree that you have all it takes to lead our state.
“Gov. Okowa knows what to do at any time. He has respect for elders and I pray God to guide him and anybody that is planning evil will not succeed.
“On my own, I am solidly behind you. I am with you spiritually and politically and for you the Anioma people, this is your challenge; take up the challenge,’’ Ibori said.
He urged the people of the state to go all out and support Okowa and all the candidates of the PDP in the coming elections.
On his part, Okowa reassured the people of his resolve to continue with the poverty alleviation agenda of his administration if re-elected.
He said that plans were on to continue and complete all road projects awarded, job creation and other developmental programmes in the state.
Okowa said that with the achievements of his administration in the past three and half years, he was sure of victory in March.
He called on the people for support and urged them to carry the campaign to the grassroots.
The governor was confident that more people would defect from the opposition party to the PDP before the general elections.
He challenged the oppositions to a debate, saying: “I offer myself to a debate on issues concerning Delta.
“Can you be a governor when you are nowhere to be found. We don’t want strangers.
“They may be born here but they are strangers, who comes in only during elections.
“We are sure of winning the oppositions in all the senatorial districts, even in Ethiope East. So I urge you to take the campaign message from door to door.’’
The governor thanked the leaders of the party, the traditional rulers, youths and women for their support which had ensured peace and security in the state and had promoted the economy of the state and the nation.
He said that because of the existing peace in the state, the state was number four in crude oil production in 2015 and had now become number one.
Okowa promised to utilise the increasing revenue to better the lives of the people if re-elected as governor.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the state PDP Chairman, Mr Kingsley Esiso, handed over the party’s flags to all candidates of the party for the forthcoming elections in the state and National Assembly.
NAN reports that the occasion was more of a carnival at Oghara, a town regarded as the political capital of PDP in Delta. (NAN). www.vanguardngr.com

Politics / Diversion Of Military Funds: We Won’t Respond, We Are Not Idle – Presidency by omon24(m): 8:27pm On Jan 02, 2019
Following allegations by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that President Muhammadu Buhari of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, diverted N1.032 trillion meant for the procurement of military equipments, to acquire shares in 9 Mobile Nigeria and Keystone Bank PLC, Presidency, Wednesday counter blasted PDP, noting that their idleness was the reason why they issue worthless statements.
Disclosing this at Channels Political programme, the media and publicity aide to President Buhari, Mr Femi Adesina, averred that Buhari will not respond to the allegations until PDP comes up with a substantial prove of their allegations.
He argued that APC and Buhari are not like PDP who are known for their corrupt practices and diversion of public funds.
Recall that PDP had called for an independent and system-wide investigation by the INTERPOL, Directorate of State Services, DSS, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on the alleged links between the two funds.
“This concerted investigation has become imperative following President Buhari’s failure to directly speak out on the allegations against his family members, as well as explain how they came about the sum of N1.032 trillion for the alleged acquisition.
“We make this demand in view of public insinuations that the money may have been sourced from funds meant for the purchase of weapons for our soldiers”, parts of its statement read.- http://www.vanguardngr.com

Politics / 2019 : Voters Will Go For Merit, Not Parties – Babachir by omon24(m): 8:05pm On Jan 02, 2019
Mr David Babachir, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has said that voters would elect candidates on their personal merit in 2019, unlike in 2015 when they voted “one party all through”.
“In 2015, voters were asked to vote APC in all elections. That gave the party a massive momentum and all its candidates were returned elected.
“The situation will be different in 2019. Many governors and senators have not performed. They have not replicated President Muhammadu Buhari’s performance. Such people will be voted out,” he told newsmen on Wednesday in Yola.
He said that voters were now more critical and will only elect people with credible records.
He regretted that the “one way” voting by APC supporters threw up “many incredible candidates into offices”, saying that such bandwagon would not be available in 2019.
Babachir said that Nigeria could only move forward if credible people were elected as leaders, saying that no elected leader would be allowed to ride to power on Buhari’s credible outing.
The former SGF accused Adamawa governor Abubakar Bindow of non-performance, and advised APC members and supporters to “urgently do the right thing at the right time”.
“There are candidates that are far better than the current governor,” he declared. _ http://www.vanguardngr.com

Politics / Maku: I Don’t Need Political Structures To Win Nasarawa Governorship Seat by omon24(m): 7:28pm On Jan 02, 2019
Former information minister Labaran Maku, who is contesting the Nasarawa governorship seat on the ticket of APGA, says he does not need political structures to win the election.
Critics have insisted that his chances are slim since APGA is not a major political group in the state.
They say that Maku’s rival groups – APC and PDP – had more advantage with the former boasting of the incumbent governor, a senator and members of the national and state assemblies, while the later has two senators and many members of the federal and state assemblies.
But Maku told supporters that paid him a new year visit at his Wakama village in Akun, on Wednesday, that such structures were not serious factors that would determine election results
“When Gov. Tanko Al-Makura won the governorship election on the platform the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), in 2011, the party was new and had no structures.
“In 2019, voters will look at issues and what candidates have to offer. This talk about structures is diversionary,” he said.
Maku advised his supporters to focus on issues, and cautioned them against hurling insults at his political opponents.
He urged voters to defend their votes in 2019 so that no one would be robbed of his or her victory.
Maku claimed that he won the governorship election in 2015 but was robbed of victory, and promised to reclaim that mandate in 2019.
Newsmen report that APGA groups that visited Maku came from Keana, Awe, Doma, Lafia, Kokona, Karu and Akwanga. _ VANGUARD

Politics / We’re Not Rigging Elections, INEC Tells PDP by omon24(m): 7:07pm On Jan 02, 2019
The Peoples Democratic party (PDP) has advised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to distance itself from an alleged plot to compromise the Electoral Guidelines and pave the way for the alteration of the forthcoming general election results.
The Director, Media and Publicity, PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, Kola Ologbondiyan, gave the advise at a news conference on Wednesday in Abuja.
Ologbondiyan alleged that Nigerians were already aware that the commission’s Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, was under pressure to drop the display of results at the polling units as well as the electronic transmission of polled figures to the server of the electoral umpire from its guidelines.
He said that the display of results at the polling units ensured that results posted at all levels remained those originally announced at the various polling units, while the electronic transmission to INEC server ensured that the results from the polling centres were not tampered with.
“Prof. Yakubu must not succumb to the pressure of the Buhari Presidency, because doing so will definitely set him on a collision course with Nigerians,” he said
However, the Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman, Mr Rotimi Oyekanmi, dismissed the allegations and urged the PDP to provide the evidence in its possession to prove them.
“Otherwise, the PDP should cure itself of this recurring hallucination which I am sure Nigerians no longer buy. Certainly, INEC is not into the rigging business,” he said._https://www.vanguardngr.com

Jobs/Vacancies / N-power Jobs: 13 States Submit List Of Verified Applicants – Presidency by omon24(m): 6:15am On Dec 19, 2016
By Levinus Nwabughiogu
ABUJA —The Presidency said last night that 13 states have submitted the verified list of graduates who applied for the Federal Government jobs, otherwise called N-Power jobs.
Disclosing this while giving an update on the programme yesterday, Mr. Laolu Akande, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity in the Office of the Vice President, stated that in some states, the graduates had been deployed to their primary places of assignment, noting that payment of the N30,000 stipends for the graduates would commence this month once verification and deployment were done.
According to him, the states include Adamawa, Bauchi, Benue, Cross River, Gombe, Jigawa, Katsina and Kogi states. Others are Niger, Plateau, Sokoto, Taraba and Zamfara States, while verification and deployment have already been completed in Benue, Cross River and Kogi.
Akande added: “Under the N-Power Volunteer Scheme, the Federal Government announced the selection and engagement of 200,000 unemployed graduates as the first batch of the half a million the Buhari administration plans to hire for the 2-year paid volunteer job programme.”
He also stated that the present government was determined to create jobs for the youths.
He said: “While the Federal Government is responsible for their monthly stipends, it is in partnership with state governments to verify the selected unemployed graduates and deploy them to their primary places of assignment since each of the volunteer graduates would be serving in their communities where they are resident.
“In virtually all the states of the federation, the verification has commenced and there are indications that much progress would be made this week in order to enable the Federal Government process the monthly payments of the already verified graduates before Christmas.
“The Buhari administration is keen on ensuring that the selected 200,00 0 graduates are able to draw their stipends starting this month, as plans have been concluded to release the funds once verification is completed. States have been very cooperative in working with the Federal Government so much that even in states that have not completed verification by weekend, much activities are going on towards attaining that goal.

Politics / Posterity Shall Judge Me Right – Jonathan by omon24(m): 5:54am On May 12, 2015
President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday
expressed confidence that posterity will judge his
outgoing administration right.
According to Jonathan, his government has
delivered the dividends of democracy in various
sectors of the economy, particularly in the power
sector as he claimed that the sector presently
generates 6, 000 megawatts of electricity.
Jonathan lost to the candidate of the All
Progressives Congress, Muhammadu Buhari, in
the March 28, 2015 presidential election and he
is expected to hand over on the 29th of this
month to a new government.
The President spoke through his deputy, Namadi
Sambo, during the official inauguration of Niger
Delta Power Holding Company/National
Integrated Power Plant Gwagwalada
330/132/33KV Transmission Substation in Abuja.
Jonathan said, “Let me reiterate our firm belief
and respect for democracy and its norms and
values and our continued commitment to the
progress and prosperity of our dear nation.
“To this regard, we shall continue to make our
contributions to the development of our dear
country as patriotic citizens. We are confident
that posterity shall place us on the right side of
history.
“I will take this opportunity to also assure all
Nigerians that all the decisions and project
implementation of both NDPHC and the National
Council on Privatisation, all decisions are taken
on the basis of sound professional advice and
sound decision to ensure that we succeed in
Nigeria in providing power successfully for the
benefit of the country and our economic
development.”
He said the country currently has a power
generation level of 6,000 megawatts.
This claim is, however, in contrast of the
3,413.1MW recorded as peak power generation
as of May 11, 2015 which was contained on the
website of the Federal Ministry of Power on
Monday.
Jonathan said, “At present, the nation’s power
generation level as confirmed by the minister of
power is about 6,000MW and we can wheel up to
5,500MW.”
The President explained that prior to the advent
of the Gwagwalada substation, Abuja and all of
FCT and Nasarawa State were supplied by a
330kV double circuit line and a 132kV double
circuit line from Shiroro Hydro power station
terminating at Katampe 330/132/33kV
substation and Apo 132/33kV Substation
respectively.
He said other locations within the FCT and
Nasarawa State were supplied via various 132kV
lines from Katampe and Apo.
Jonathan said, “Gwagwalada 330/132/33kV
substation was conceived as a location and sited
in Gwagwalada in the outskirts of Abuja
metropolis as one of the nodes in a 330kV
transmission ring that will provide secured
supply to the Federal Capital Territory and Abuja
in particular.
“Connection to Gwagwalada was, therefore,
engineered as an evacuation substation facility
for Geregu NIPP power plant to the FCT 330kV
ring via an initial 222.6kms 330kV double circuit
line from Geregu (Ajaokuta) to Gwagwalada
330/132/33kV substation with a final 30kms
330kV double circuit construction. This tees into
one of the original Shiroro-Abuja (Katampe)
330kV DC lines thus achieving a 330kV
alternative (thermal) power source to Abuja.”---PUNCH NEWS

Politics / Ekiti APC Lawmakers Discontinue Suit Against Fayose by omon24(m): 10:09pm On Apr 09, 2015
Channels Television.
Updated April 9, 2015
The 19 members of the Ekiti State
House of Assembly, under the platform
of All Progressives Congress (APC), have
filed a notice of discontinuance of a suit
they instituted against Governor Ayo
Fayose at the Federal High Court in
Lagos.
The lawmakers had filed the suit against
the state governor and others, to
challenge the purported impeachment of
Hon. Adewale Omirin as Speaker, and
running of the House by only seven
members of the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP).
The APC lawmakers were alleged to
have earlier fled the state after Hon
Omirin’s impeachment, but were directed
by the party to return after the March 28
Presidential elections.
A copy of the notice of discontinuance
which was signed by the 19 lawmakers
was obtained on Thursday by Channels
TV’s judiciary correspondent, Shola
Soyele.
In the suit, the APC lawmakers had
specifically argued that by the provision
of the constitution, the 7 PDP lawmakers
lacked the legal right to take decisions
on behalf of the House.
The plaintiffs had also asked the court
to declare that Hon Omirin and his
deputy are entitled to occupy their
offices, except removed by two-third
majority votes of the assembly.
The lawmakers also sought a
declaration that Governor Fayose’s
alleged attempt to force them to join the
PDP and denounce the APC is against
their constitutional rights to freedom of
association.
They then asked the court to hold that
the election of the PDP’s Dele Olugbemi
as Speaker of the Ekiti State House of
Assembly was illegal, saying all
deliberations and actions of the seven
lawmakers were invalid.
Meanwhile, Governor Fayose, in a
preliminary objection filed by three of his
commissioners, asked the court for an
order striking out or dismissing the suit
in its entirety, for lack of jurisdiction.

Politics / Three Arrested Over Mass Purchase Of PVCs In Niger State by omon24(m): 1:19pm On Jan 12, 2015
Abu Nmodu
— Jan 12, 2015

Ahead of the February general election, three persons have been arrested over mass purchase of permanent voter cards (PVCs) from prospective voters in Niger State.

LEADERSHIP investigation revealed that the three persons were arrested in possession of the PVCs in Kalgara Rafi local government area which they were alleged to have purchased from villagers in preparation for the general election.

It was gathered that the men arrested over the weekend have been linked to one of the leading political parties in the state and were said to have been purchasing the cards between N10,000 and N20,000.

A source revealed that the practice is a common feature in most local government areas in Niger State and where it was not possible to be purchased, the PVCs meant for the communities were forcefully hijacked without recourse to the individual’s consent.

The source revealed: “For instance at Kutriko in Agaie local government area of the state, there are allegations about a candidate of a political party who threatened to confiscate the PVCs of the people who were not ready to support his party, and freely allow those identified to be his supporters to collect their cards.”

It was gathered that the situation nearly caused confusion as the said member of a political party, allegedly hijacked the process of continuous voter registration, allowing only their supporters to be registered.

Investigation revealed that those arrested in Rafi local government with the cards were transferred to the Niger State Police Criminal Investigation department for further interrogation.

Politics / Buhari’s Certificate: Go To court, INEC Tells PDP by omon24(m): 10:29am On Jan 12, 2015
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied claims that it is involved in a cover-up for the All Progressives Council (APC) presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, over his certificate saga.

It noted that the election commission does not have the constitutional powers to disqualify any candidate sent to it by the political parties.

INEC, while responding to the allegation raised by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that the electoral commission is covering up for Buhari over the certificate issue told the ruling party to go to court if it feels so aggrieved.

The director of Media and Publicity of PDP Presidential Campaigns, Chief Femi Fani Kayode, had on Saturday accused INEC of covering up Buhari over his failure to submit his certificate and credentials.

He said “INEC erred in law by publishing the name of a candidate without receiving the personal particulars of the candidate within seven days of receiving his nomination forms as indicated in section 31(3).”

But the director of Voters Education and Publicity in INEC, Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi faulted the position of PDP with regards to the role of the commission in the certificate saga noting that INEC has no constitutional powers to disqualify any candidate presented to it by the political parties.

He said “In line with section 31 of the Electoral Act, the commission has no powers to disqualify any candidate whose name was submitted to INEC. This is the power of the law and it is expected that a political party in the calibre of the PDP should know this aspect of the provision of the law.

“If the PDP is strong on this matter, it knows what to do. Take him to court and that is the only option.
