Multiple Taxation:

Do you know that a trailer form maiduguri to Aba spends more than 500k on settlement (road money), which is causing and increased cost of food items.

From Benue to Abuja one spends more than 50,000 as extra cost to send a J5 bus to yams, which is resulting in the extra cost to the buyers.

High cost of feeding is caused by mirrored taxes dealers has to pay and resulting in multiple taxation along this route which is common in the SS and SE route of the country inclusive of Benue, Kogi and Kwara state.

Poor Infastructures:

Do you know that due to bad roads, a good percentage of agricultural produce are wasted.

We sat with the cattle dealers association last week in Bauchi, and they told us that for every 100 cattles sent, they lose 10 due to shocks from the bad road and delays caused by it.

This is also evident in the stories of those that transport yams from Benue through Taraba to Abuja, the road is bad in Ibi LGA, and from the Shandam axis (our trip to that axis 1 month ago confrims it), making yams dealers lose yams to the water and lives.

1. High rate of Agricultural Inputs.

I'm our stories for the BBC, we sat down with them and explained how high rate of Agricultural inputs is pushing the small scale farmers out of business, remember they account for 80% of Nigeria out puts, and if a farmer buys fertilizer for 50,000 as against 10k how will they survive, do you know that agro chemicals have shot up by more than 300% in cost?

It's no longer news that the common man in Nigeria can't eat again!

Simply put, food is luxury and no affordable to the poor.

Basic food commodities such as beans (usually classified as poor man's food is now out of the reach of the poor man).

For example, never in my life have been crossed 100k, but ladies and gentlemen beans is 112k in brono, this was Sam beans that was sold for 10k just little under 2years before.

The question bags, why is food expensive in Nigeria?

I'm the pass 6 months we have spent time travelling 22 northen states and 6 countries that supply Nigeria agricultural goods and meet with more than 200,000 farmers and this are some of our experience why foods are expensive in Nigeria.

Good day all, with the rising cost of food in Nigeria, it is important to know where you can source for food items cheaper.

Background: With more than a decade in the agricultural space/ food security, I have a much more fairer approach to the food systems of Nigeria, and in this article I will be writing where and which markets inclusive of price ranges and YouTube videos of where to get food items cheaper in Nigeria.

If you also need where to source an item cheaper, leave it as a comment and I will respond.

Good morning all.

So in this trip am going to be sharing with you of how I planned on going to Kenya but ended up in Rwanda 🇷🇼.

It all started when I got an accreditation to attend a conference on climate change in Kenya 🇰🇪. I waited for funding AU wasn't coming through with funding, I wrote to several ministries in Nigeria for funding they refused, citing no funding for that purpose, while I was waiting, I took a bold step to apply for a single entry Kenyan visa.

It came out less than 48hr later. The visa can be done online. Infact I applied for it with my phone.

When my visa came out, costing 55 dollars- Nigerian naira cards don't work with dollar payment- story for another day.

When my visa came out I took a step further without funding to pay for tickets, omo the cheapest I say for a return trip was 2.5k usd, loosely totaling 2m

I started searching for thr cheapest flight etc, till I say Rwandair (that is Rwanda Air), 750k.

Before I go make up my mind if I should pay for the trip, flight don enter 950k, wtf 😑 bro!!

Sharp Sharp! I wrote all mail to them for their Nigeria account as I don't have 3k dollar in cash, I paid tickets was issued!

I will say Rwandair has good customer relations

After payment, I quickly left Jos to Abuja, I started to gather my stuffs their, from their I booked a United Nigeria flight for 8ok to Lagos. I was flying through lagos.

When I got tired 😫 😩 we got ready to move 😴

From Lambata we moved to Izom though I was very tired, but I managed to take a shot from the moving car

Izom is a market for livestock for anyone willing to buy livestocks cheaper than Abuja prices.

From this we moved to another session of the market where logistics is sorted.

There are vehicles to several parts of Nigeria from this market, or trucks headed to Lagos from this market

From the Groundnuts session we move to the fish section.

I will say fish is a but pricy compared to what we are used to in Maiduguri or what we buy.

Also that fish is also very limited in this market.

So the price of Egusi new one was selling for 500 per mudu or 450 per mudu and each mudu contains 8-9 milk cups for unpeeled while hand Peeled sells for 1400 per mudu and machine Peeled sells for 1200 per mudu

A sack of egusi containing 60 mudus was sold for 28k but I will advice you measure to your own taste though that is how egusi is bought.
