On Saturday, youths across the country made a strong statement in support of Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello's candidacy in the 2023 presidential election, causing serious tension over who becomes the next president.

It was a simultaneous gathering of massive crowds of youths in over 36 states across the federation's six geopolitical zones in a show of force dubbed the 'Nationwide Capacity Rally for Yahaya Bello.'

Participants chanted solidarity songs and carried various placards in support of Bello beginning at 9 a.m. in all locations.

The youths, who claimed to have mobilized over 16 million active Permanent Voters Cards in order to achieve a Yahaya Bello presidency in 2023, stated that the nationwide capacity rally was to demonstrate that they meant business and would go all out for their own in the upcoming elections.

Under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bello, a presidential aspirant, has been a frontline in the area of massive youth and women mobilization, as well as a strong media presence in the ongoing presidential race.

Abdullahi Shuaibu Damat, the National Coordinator of the groups under the umbrella of Rescue Nigeria Mission, who was present at the Federal Capital Territory rally, said the youths were already thinking beyond the primary elections of the major parties in their quest for Yahaya Bello to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.

Damat, who spoke at the Unity Fountain venue of the Abuja rally, said the youths had taken control of their future through technology, a determination to avoid money politics, and a heightened determination to participate actively in the upcoming election.

“If you have your colleagues everywhere in the nation – Bauchi, Sokoto, Oyo, Kwara, Anambra, Katsina, Kano, Gombe, Southsouth and all across the country, ask them about the kind of crowd they have seen today, simultaneously, in all the states.

“It has never happened before in Nigeria. This is what we mean by the phrase ‘it is youths o’ clock’. We want to appeal to the stakeholders and leaders to choose the person that can deliver the election at this point in time. In Nigeria today, no politician comes close to the Yahaya Bello structure.”

Speaking from the rally in Awka, Anambra state, Hon. Anthony Edogbo, the national coordinator of Bello Ambassadors Network, said the rally was necessary to keep easterners' morale high in anticipation of a youthful presidency through Gov. Bello.

The meeting point in Nasarawa State was at Kaura Plaza on Jos Road.

The large crowd walked to UBA Junction and congregated at Total.

They gathered at the Three Star Hotel in Jigawa and marched through the streets from there.

The crowd in Oyo State moved from ShopRite to Challenge, among other places, while the Kwara rally began at Kwara State Stadium, Ibrahim Taiwo Road, Ilorin, and moved through the Post Office to other parts of the state.

Sokoto, Kebbi, Gombe, Cross River, Borno, Kogi, Benue, Kaduna, Taraba, Plateau, Niger, Katsina, Bauchi, and Yobe, Akwa Ibom, and Zamfara were among the other states where the capacity rally was held concurrently.

Heavy traffic was observed in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom state, on Saturday as thousands of young people from Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Calabar, Edo, and Bayelsa occupied Plaza and other roads, urging Nigerians to support the governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, in order for the youth to clinch power in 2023.

Speaking to the press during the rally, one of the rally's leaders, Chief Sunny Ibanga, said that the youths decided to take to the streets to urge Nigerians to support Bello's election as the country's next president.

He believes the governor possesses the intellectual capacity and energy to lead the country. He stated that the governor's accomplishments in education, health, and security were sufficient for the youths to rally behind him.

Comrade Paul Ibara, a member of the Bello Ambassadors Network (BAN), stated that the group has been conducting voter registration awareness and that it is certain that Nigerian youths have been able to equip themselves with their Personal Voters Cards to usher in a youthful government.

"The young governor will win the All Progressive Congress ticket because of his achievements as governor and the need for the party to field the most sellable candidate in order to win the election next year," the youths said.

Students from various universities across the country who have been stranded by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike have praised Kogi State governor and presidential aspirant Yahaya Bello for his reformation of the state's education sector.

On February 14, this year, the union went on a month-long warning strike, which was extended by another eight weeks and ended on Monday, May 9, 2022, before an indefinite strike was declared. ASUU delegation has met with the government delegation on a few occasions but all ended in deadlock.

During a protest against the unending strike, the students of federal University Lokoja chanted with placards about the delays caused by the disagreement between the Federal Government and ASUU. They complained that while their colleagues at Kogi State University, now known as Prince Audu Abubakar University, are attending classes without obstruction, they have been out of schools for months now with no end in sight.

According to reports, no state-owned institution in Kogi has gone on strike in the last five years. On July 18, 2017, Bello proscribed the Kogi State chapter of ASUU after the government was unable to force academic staff to return to class despite several appeals.

The Director-General of the Yahaya Bello Presidential Campaign Organisation, Hafsat Abiola-Costello, has said she is standing with Governor Yahaya Bello in the race for the All Progressives Congress’ presidential ticket because she has seen in him qualities of the kind of leader Nigeria needs at this point in time.

Abiola-Costello, daughter of the winner of the 1993 presidential election, late Chief MKO Abiola, said she chose Governor Bello over all other South West aspirants because she had seen in him true commitment to the progress of the country.

The DG also reiterated that, with the ongoing work in the Campaign, she was very sure that her principal would be victorious at the primaries, notwithstanding the political stamina of some others in the race.

She said this on Monday while addressing journalists in Lagos ahead of the APC presidential primaries slated for May 30 and 31, in Abuja.

Abiola-Costello, however, said Bello was a loyal and respectful person, who would carry everyone along after he emerges.

On economy, she noted that statistics from the World Bank on states accountability rating in Nigeria indicates that Kogi ranks top among other states in the country.

She said, “This is a man who met a debt profile of about N135bn in Kogi when he assumed office in 2016, but has been able to reduce it to about N70bn. This is addition to his huge investments in education, agriculture, security and infrastructural developments. The World Bank accountability ranking of states in Nigeria evaluated Kogi as 2nd in 2017, 1st in 2018 and 2019.

“The draft report for 2021 shows that Kogi scored 100 per cent in all the areas and from indications, the state will maintain the first position in 2021, judging from the draft report that was released just yesterday.

“I am proud of GYB because of his development records in Kogi. This is a governor that is always looking for progress and the development of lives of his people. This is me, a Yoruba, supporting someone from North Central.

“There is no progress without demands, I lost my both parents, though unfortunately, because Nigerians believed in them. I’ve been working with GYB for a while and I have seen that he has the courage and intelligence to deliver Nigeria.”

She said as one of the foremost presidential aspirants of the party, Governor Bello had reached out to party stakeholders in nearly all parts of the country, adding that he stands a better chance to clinch the party’s ticket than others.

The Director-General said, in terms of insecurity, the governor had been able to bring down the crime rates to the barest minimum, adding that through a well crafted management system, he had united all the groups in the multi-ethnic state.

Abiola-Costello said the campaign team of Governor Bello had been interfacing with critical stakeholders of APC to present his development credentials, which would be replicated at the federal level.

“Going into the presidential primaries, we are on a good footing. If you plant a good seed very early, you will reap better than those who plant late,” she noted.

On Saturday, the last day of April, it was a zonal movement in Nigeria's Eastern region as Igbo Youths from five states gathered in the heart of Imo State to match in solidarity for Bello, making bold that the people have agreed to support the presidential ambition of Gov. Yahaya Bello over many others.

The support from the East, as well as several other movements across the country, including the governor's homecoming, which drew a large crowd from several northern states, may indicate that the APC now has the most popular candidate it could consider running for president with its ticket.

According to reports, the Igbos prefer Bello for a variety of reasons, including proximity, religious performance, tribe unification, and competency. These characteristics, as well as many others that distinguish the governor, appear to be lacking in every other APC candidate.

As the party prepares for presidential primaries, it is very likely Yahaya Bello may emerge as the flag bearer considering his bloc North Central votes, massive South East support he has gained by playing pivotal roles in South East APC elections, North West and North East support as well. While many aspirants of the south west and south south region justle for delegate support, Yahaya Bello remains the only North Central and northern candidate, for now. These calculations made by many is most likely to become the outcome of APC's upcoming presidential primaries.

All these could also be attributed to the support Gov. Bello is receiving from the leadership ahead. Indeed, the party faces interesting times ahead, but it is clear that Bello is in the lead.

Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, leader of the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) on Saturday, led some South-East youths in a solidarity march in Owerri, Imo, in support of the 2023 presidential bid of Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi.

Uwazuruike who also said he does not believe in the president of Igbo extraction said the contest should be thrown open.

The MASSOB leader stated this when Bello, a presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress(APC), visited him in Owerri, Imo.



The youths, who started the procession from the MASSOB leader’s house in Owerri, marched through the streets, carrying different placards, with inscriptions such as “Power to the Youths, Support Yahaya Bello”, “Youths Can Also Lead”, and “Yahaya Bello for the Youths”, among others.

They made it clear that the only solution to Nigeria’s political quagmire was for power to go to the youths.



According to them, in this regard, Bello is the right fit for the position of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Recall that Bello picked the APC Expression of Interest and Nomination forms at the party’s national secretariat on Wednesday.



Uwazuruike, who advised Nigerians and party leaders to shun zoning, as it had no place in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, said his group would support Bello to become the next president of Nigeria because he had the leadership qualities to lead Nigeria effectively.

He noted that power should go to the best in the race, adding that the Kogi governor remained the best for the job.


“All Nigerians should rally around the youthful governor. We are supporting Bello for this and no one else. That he has the capacity to solve the problem of insecurity and a host of others facing the nation is not in doubt.

“This is a crucial time in the history of the country. We must give youths a chance, especially one that has demonstrated uncommon capacity, in the person of Yahaya Bello,” he said.

Uwazuruike, who is also the founder of the Biafran Independent Movement (BIM) said f Nigeria’s sovereignty must be upheld, and the idea of an Igbo president should be discarded.

He said,: “I don’t believe in the idea of zoning system or Igbo president because zoning means sectionalism.

“If we want to talk about Nigeria, we must throw the presidential contest open but if you throw it open, it must be for the youths, not elders, because the elders have failed us.

Uwazuruike said his group would support Bello to become the next president of Nigerian because he is a youth with the leadership qualities to deliver the Nigeria project.

“The youths must be given power, the elders have continued to be in power without great result.

He urged Nigerians to support Bello, describing zoning or the Igbo presidency as a project aimed at promoting sectionalism.

Speaking, Bello expressed gratitude over the reception given to him by no fewer than Five thousand members of MASSOB/BIM who welcomed him in Imo.

Bello said he was prepared to deliver the Nigerian project if given the opportunity to serve as the next president of the country.

“I’m prepared to lead this country, I shall address insecurity, health system as well as the educational system.

“Nigerians must be very careful and be ready to make the best decision in choosing their next president,” he said.

With the way things have been going in the Nigerian political space in recent days in terms of the 2023 presidential election, one is tempted to believe that the governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, could be the chosen one and the next president of this Nigeria.

Many events are currently unfolding that demonstrate that, contrary to popular belief that Yahaya Bello can't outrun political heavyweights like Bola Tinubu and others who have spent years in Nigerian politics and are believed to have ready bags of looted funds for this election before the arrival of the Kogi State governor, the young man's backups are stronger.

Before now, some Nigerians regard Yahaya Bello's presidential ambition as a farce. They are, however, taken aback by the man's decision to become the first aspirant to demonstrate the utmost seriousness and audacity in paying for the All Progressive Congress presidential nomination forms.

As if that wasn't enough, many Nigerians were left with no choice but to support the young governor's ambition after seeing viral videos and photos of the unusual crowd that gathered at the APC secretariat last Wednesday while the aspirant was obtaining his forms.

It didn't stop there; Nigerians awoke on Thursday to President Muhammadu Buhari's colorful reception of Bello with his nomination forms. A significant and first Presidential honor for a candidate running in the upcoming election. Again, many people were left wondering if Yahaya Bello was the anointed candidate. The answer to the question may have already been revealed - everyone saw how the party chairman, Abdulahi Adamu, cheered up the governor while he was getting his forms from the Secretariat.

It also raised concerns that, thus far, Bello has been the major northern figure pushing for the presidency, despite speculation about the ticket being zoned to the south. Given the APC leadership's support for Governor Bello thus far, it appears that zoning has become a forgotten matter within the party.

Sincerely, exciting days lie ahead. And, without a doubt, Nigeria is on its way to electing a young president as the recycled old politicians have continued to fail the people. Perhaps things will change for the better if the youths who have been at the receiving end should take the lead.

It is wished that Bello is truly the anointed one, as this would eliminate the need for Nigerians to worry about overseas presidential checkups in the next administration. Bello's election as president will have nothing to do with memory or hearing loss. Only a strong security system and a refined education system should be expected of the country. It is a known fact that Bello can do it.

Bello obtained the forms yesterday, amid an unprecedented crowd, at the APC national secretariat in Abuja.

The top presidential candidate has become the first to receive Mr. President's blessings ahead of the primary elections.

On Wednesday, a large crowd gathered at the National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress in Abuja to witness a top presidential aspirant, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, obtain the party's nomination form.

Bello, whose friends, supporters, well wishers and business associates raised over 800million naira in less than 2hours after the party announced sale of forms, became the first aspirant to purchase the APC nomination form for the 2023 presidential election. His scheduled presence drew thousands of youths, men, women, and stakeholders from various quarters to the APC secretariat.

According to previous reports, the governor of Kogi, who is known for his exceptional performance in security and education, has become the most sought-after candidate by Nigerians for the upcoming election.

The APC leadership is said to have thanked Bello for his contributions to the party's growth and wished him luck in the May primary election.

Aside from security, Nigeria's education system is in disarray. Nigerian higher education institutions have been closed for several months as a result of strikes by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and other associations, with the exception of those in Kogi State. And it's made worse by the fact that the federal government appears to have exhausted all options for dealing with this never-ending threat.

While it may not occur to some Nigerian parents that strikes have a negative impact on their young undergraduate children, experts are aware that idleness or unnecessarily long breaks from class can lead to young people engaging in unhealthy activities. Peharps, this could be a major contributor to the rising social vices and internet fraud by young people.

Strikes in Nigeria's education system require an immediate solution, and only those who can figure it out should be the ones Nigerians are expected to focus on in the coming elections.

When you think of an uninterrupted schooling system today, Kogi State and its governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, immediately come to mind.

The governor was not lying when he said, "IN KOGI STATE, OUR SCHOOLS DO NOT GO ON STRIKE." It has been confirmed that no school in the confluence state has gone on strike in the last half of a decade. It is actually no magic, the young governor ensured the students get the best out of their time in school. He employed policies and swiftly implemented them.

In Nigeria, strikes and other issues are wreaking havoc. Students' academic performance suffers as the strike continues. Students' reading abilities deteriorate when learning is interrupted for an extended period of time. Some students even forget what they learned in school. As a result, some students become certificate-seekers rather than knowledge-seekers, lowering productivity and producing low-quality students.

Also, if university lecturers go on strike for an extended period of time, the state and federal governments will lose billions of dollars in revenue from compensating academics for services not delivered after the strike, as well as the cost of maintaining university-owned utilities such as vehicles and generators.

In addition to the financial loss to universities, concerned education observers have noted that the strike has a negative impact on the quality of university graduates because time lost due to strikes that should have been used for delivering quality learning is not gained after the strike. This explains why there are so many half-baked graduates in this situation.

Furthermore, as a result of the strikes, some young people are losing faith in education and turning to dangerous vices that may jeopardize their future. We are in grave danger as a country as a result of this evolution.

Nigerian students have joined other organizations to persuade the public that there are other reasons besides security to give Governor Bello a chance to reform the country.

It is said that in Kogi schools, teachers are happy, students are happy, and parents are happier.

While many children in Nigeria's 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory remained out of school, students at Kogi State University, renamed Prince Audu Abubakar University, and other schools in the state are wrapping up sessions and preparing to start another without a hitch.

Yahaya Bello is said to be enthusiastic about education. Perhaps because he is a young person or because he is well-versed in modern realities. If Nigerians truly want reformation in its education sector, Bello will certainly fix it. This again is another hope for 2023.
