Four suspected internet fraudsters popularly known as Yahoo Boys were on Monday, December 26, arrested by men of Ogun state Police Command, for abducting their colleague over sharing of proceeds from their fraud business, IGBERETV reports.

According to a statement released by the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the suspects identified as Agbe Simeon, Messiah Nicky, Oladapo Dolapo and Yetunde Shonola, were arrested at Orile imo village in Obafemi Owode local government area of Ogun state following information received by the Police at Owode Egba divisional headquarters, that one Haruna Usman, who had been abducted since Thursday, 22nd of December 2022, is being held hostage somewhere in Orile Imo.

''Upon the information, the DPO Owode Egba division, CSP Popoola Olasunkanmi, quickly mobilized his men and stormed the area, where four amongst the abductors were apprehended while two others escaped.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim and the suspects belong to an internet fraudster syndicate, and that they recently swindled somebody whose identity is not yet known of sum of twenty six million, four hundred and thirty seven thousand, nine hundred and fifty naira (#26,437,950), but the victim only gave the sum of #2,200 to his other colleagues, claiming that the money has not been paid completely by their client.

This angered his colleagues who then lured him to an herbalist home at Orile Imo and held him hostage there since Thursday, 22nd of December 2022, with threat to kill him there if he refused to give them their complete share .

But while they were there, information got to the police who moved in, rescued the victim and apprehended four amongst the abductors, while others escaped", the statement in part reads.

Oyeyemi added that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has directed that the suspects be transferred to Anti kidnapping unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The management of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), Ilorin, Kwara State has seized the corpse of a patient and arrested one of the relatives of the deceased for physically assaulting a medical doctor.

It was gathered that three family members of the deceased, one Alhaji Saliu, on Tuesday, December 27, reportedly beat up a medical doctor in the Accident and Emergency Wing of the UITH following what they described as nonchalant attitude of medical staff.

Trouble started shortly after the news of the death of their relative who was suffering from blood cancer, was announced at the hospital.

The deceased was rushed to the facility on Tuesday after he suffered complications when he reportedly returned from a business trip. When relatives got the news that he had died, they pounced one of the doctors on duty, while accusing him of negligence.

A relative of the deceased simply identified as Abdul said the hospital had held on to the corpse because of the incident.

“We rushed Alhaji Saliu to the emergency ward of UITH around some minutes after 5:00am on Tuesday and despite all our pleading for a doctor to attend to him, nobody obliged us," he narrated.

"We were surprised to see doctors coming to attend to us several hours later after a medical personnel, who saw our plight confirmed he was dead. That infuriated the relatives and they reacted by descending on one of the doctors that came. Since then, they have vowed not to release the corpse unless we produce some other people that beat the doctor,” he said.

The Head, Corporate Affairs Unit of the UITH, Mrs. Elizabeth Ajiboye, who confirmed the development on Wednesday, said that doctors under the aegis of Association of Resident Doctors of Nigeria in the hospital were protesting the assault, “urging the management of the hospital against the release of the corpse without arresting and prosecuting the culprits.”

Ajiboye, who urged members of the public to stop attacks on health workers said that the patient’s case was presented late with severe complications.

"The patient in question was one of such cases presented to the hospital late and with severe complications. Nevertheless, the health workers on duty, especially doctors swung into action but while battling with his life, he convulsed. He was stabilised from that stage, prompting the doctors to take over another case requiring an emergency attention," Ajiboye explained.

"Three of the patient’s relations pounced on one of the doctors on duty, pinned him to the wall, and punched him severally but he managed to escape from them.

"This led to the arrest of one of patient’s relatives by the security operatives attached to the hospital. As at the time of this report, this person is still under the watch of the security personnel while the other two are being searched for.

"Meanwhile, the doctors under the aegis of Association of Resident Doctors of Nigeria are protesting the assault, urging the management of the hospital against the release of the corpse without arresting and prosecuting the culprits.

"It has now become imperative for the hospital to caution patients and their relations against any form of attack on its health care providers.

"We wish to remind members of the public on the roles of health workers in health management system and the limitations of these health care providers in saving lives especially when the cases before them are presented late.

"Just as these workers had sworn to protect the lives of their patients, their own lives should not be endangered.

"Therefore, the management through the law enforcement agents has resolved to henceforth commence the arrest and prosecution of anyone irrespective of their status, threatening the lives of any of the workers of UITH in the course of their duties. Legal action will also henceforth be taken against such unruly relatives of our patients.

"We are at the same time, pledging our unalloyed commitment to continually save lives and make health care accessible to our law abiding clients,” Ajiboye added.

Popular Nigerian singer, Portable has dismissed reports that dancer, Pocolee and rapper, Olamide made him famous, IGBERETV reports.

Speaking in an interview with Echoo Room, Portable insisted that he was already popular and his music was doing well before Pocolee and Olamide reached out to him. He added that they sent him a DM and no one linked him to them as claimed.

Portable said his achievement of fame was all by grace and when it's time for a person to become successful, they will.

Portable came into limelight after the release of his song, ZaZoo Zehh, in which he featured Olamide and Pocolee.

Suspected cultists have beheaded Hezekiah Adaiden, the Youth President of Inen community in OrukAnam Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom state, IGBERETV reports.

Adaiden was beheaded last Sunday, December 18, 2022, when he was hosting a group of young men in his compound.

An eyewitness said the cultists dragged Adaiden to a corner, beat him to a coma and cut off his head.

The source said the hoodlums looted the house, beat up the wife and carted away valuables items.

"The cultists arrived in the compound at an odd hour in the night and since they were known by the youth president, he offered them drinks. While they were drinking around 1am, another group well armed arrived and was violent, as they dragged the victim to a corner and killed him," the source said.

“The most annoying is that they beheaded him and escaped with his head after they tortured his wife and poured the soup which the woman cooked on her head, as they beat her mercilessly."

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has started investigation into the gruesome murder of Adaiden.

Spokesperson of the command, Odiko Mcdon, in a statement on Wednesday, December 21, described the killing of the youth president as barbaric, adding that the perpetrators would be brought to book.

“There is an ongoing manhunt to arrest perpetrators of such crime,” he said.

“This is a very hard pill to swallow! How could this jolly good fellow just depart this world in this manner?. Hmmm… it is well. Please be kind to one another as we don’t even know what we are individually passing through! I learnt Peteru died of cancer. You were battling such burden yet I never saw you without a smile! A boat accident which occurred on Tuesday night, December 20, along Gbaramatu-Warri river, has claimed the lives of at least five members of All Progressives Congress in Delta state, IGBERETV reports.

Victims of the boat accident include APC party members and supporters who were returning from the party’s Governorship rally held earlier in the day in Okerenkoko and Ugborodo towns in Warri South West Local Government Area.

A commercial boat traveling in the opposite direction rammed into the boat carrying the APC loyalists thus resulting in the capsize.

Sources told newsmen that some victims of the accident are receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the accident.

Two persons reportedly lost their lives instantly, three drowned and seven others in hospital receiving treatment from injuries sustained in the accident.

Director of the Delta APC Governorship Campaign Council, Ima Niboro who confirmed the incident, said in a statement;

“We are shocked by this tragedy, and our hearts are heavy. Our prayers and thoughts are with the victims and their families. This is one tragedy too many, and our party is officially in mourning.

“We are currently working with the relevant authorities and communities to search for the missing. We are also in the process of reaching out to the families and loved ones of those that lost their lives while ensuring that the injured receive the best care possible.

“In honour of the dead, missing, and injured, we have decided to indefinitely suspend all further campaigns. The Campaign Council will advise on the next steps in the coming days and weeks.

“Once again, we express our deepest condolences to the families of the victims, and pray that the Almighty comforts and gives them fortitude in these trying times.”
