Very correct. Obasanjo should have prevented the establishment of those sharia courts with forces of the police and army and then gone to the supreme court to remove sharia from the constitution. But he did not want to offend muslim people and now we are where we are.

There has never been sharia criminal laws allowed in Nigeria's Constitution - up till today. Sharia civil laws are allowed in Nigeria's Constitution.

One of the earliest demands of the Chief Justice of Nigeria appointed by late President Buhari was for Islamic sharia criminal justice system be allowed in Nigeria's Constitution

The political and religious leaders in 12 northern Nigeria states led by Sani Yerima unilaterally adopted unconstitutional Islamic sharia criminal justice system then.
That is at the root of the insecurity in Nigeria today.

The mostly Muslim military dictators from Northern Nigeria who midwifed the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria refused to allow Sharia criminal justice system in the constitution, unarguably, because they understood the chaos it may cause in a multi religious society like Nigeria.

What they decide to do with however should not be detrimental to the well being of the rest of Nigeria.

Sharia criminal laws are not allowed in Nigeria's Constitution. Sharia criminal laws include stoning blasphemous persons to death, stoning women to death for adultery, cutting out the hands of thieves, and other crude punishment methods.

Sharia civil laws are allowed in Nigeria's Constitution alongside Customary Laws.

TRADING BLAMES IS NOT THE SOLUTION.

Political and religious leaders in the Sharia states literally drew the boundaries of Arewa Islamic Republic beginning 1999 when they unilaterally adopted unconstitutional Islamic sharia criminal justice system.
But they still hold tight to one Nigeria because of lucre in the southern regions of Nigeria.
Every reasonable Nigerian knows that to end the killings in Nigeria, a sovereign Arewa Islamic Republic for the sharia states has to come to be.

When then President Obasanjo ignored then governor of Zamfara state, Sani Yerima, to introduce and spread unconstitutional Islamic sharia criminal justice system in twelve northern Nigeria states.
Obasanjo called it political sharia. But it got rooted deeply in those states.
Shortly after, Boko Haram emerged and says that it's fighting for a Nigeria to be governed with Sharia criminal laws.
Thereafter and till today, the difference between Boko haram and most of the Muslims in the sharia states is like the difference between six and half a dozen.
