funmi14:I was about to say that your application docs were okay if I'm left to say, but mehn, this was a very wrong move... It would have been better you left it out completely. |
Someone should please the entire page in the link below and try to deduce if this answers the question of quota system (though it's an old article, but just to show that such actually existed)... Just came across it now, I guess it's close enough to the current argument. http://www.immigration.ca/en/immigration-wiki2/43-canada-immigration/146-immigration-quotas-cause-the-backlog.html Excerpt: Each year, the immigration department INFORMALLY establishes quotas and staffs government offices so that its missions cannot process more visas than its established quota. Kindly note the word INFORMALLY as contained in the sentence. |
AriseOCompatrot:Relationship to sponsor (and hence level of commitment to the applicant) might also be a key factor during file review in this fall injury time. They should indicate that as well, it might be useful... |
To the peeps delayed after medical calls, funmi24 and herkenolar, it's quite unfortunate but not over yet. The congratulations you have received in this forum must surely see the light of the day (your applications were most likely reviewed again after first review, such random sampling happens, maybe the senior visa officer choose that date at random). 2 major topics have been mostly debated on this thread at different points in time, and whenever any of them starts, it consumes pages like wild fire. There is bound to be 2 opposing sides to the debates as long as there is no official link yet to act as a valid proof. The first is the issue of embassy checking bank acct balance which some said they do while some others say the don't. My advice: Whenever one applies for TRV, try your best to limit the outflow of cash from the primary sponsor's account to a certain threshold (preferably amount you filled as available for your studies) to be on the safest side cos no one knows yet what exactly happens in there. The second is the issue currently under debate, which I'm of the opinion that they have a target number of applicants to issue TRV to every year (until proven otherwise) owing to funny/silly reasons they give for visa refusal towards September and January every year. My advice: Apply for your visa as early as you can except if you're on a very special package (the special ones: PhD applicants). However, God factor overrules every assumption made cos He has the final say. |
bc2015:No need of submitting it to Onyeoma cos I go do them long thing... Their applications will stay on my desk for 51 weeks or more than sef before I dish them delay/unsuccessful... |
chubbybarbie:Congrats dear... Go church do thanksgiving cos if to say your TRV don enter that kpali, and e come loss...that would have been far worse than the present case. Sometimes in our lives, God uses less undesirable events to avert bigger undesirable effects. Thank God it ended in praise at the end of the day. One last advice: Go keep that kpali where your original Degree certificates dey. When I got my TRV newly, I used to check on it every morning when I wake up and night before going to bed...as if to say e go disappear, not my fault then cos na Canada TRV disvirgin my passport Let the good news continue to rain today... |
Thank God for the success news recorded so far... God will do it for each and every one of us at His own time. It gives so much joy to come in here and see medical calls. And for those recently delayed, never give up on your dreams... The stories other applicants narrate here should do well to motivate you guys. Good things don't come easy. Anyone heading to Queen's University, Kingston this fall. There's a good deal for housing... Feel free to holla at me. |
Taike:Congrats Taike... Your application was quite tight. To God be the glory. @ d bolded, it's quite impressive... The sky is your stepping stone, see you at the top insha Allah... |
Congrats to those that recently got medicals and TRV... Cocolav et al... Ottawa awaits you. Congrats on advance to Taike and those that'll get their medicals and TRV approval mails today. |
AriseOCompatrot:Naija babes rock anytime, na just say some of them dey overform...(Too much of everything is bad) and that's why some Naija guys wey no get that patience dey divert to whites cos once a white babe likes you, she doesn't form...She lets you know her mind...So the game can start at once. |
ChriGo:Kai, this guy... You never still change. No be only pity. She's also doing herself good in preparation of the rainy days(-35*C winter). But before I accept the offer, I'll ask her: I hope you have your complete tuition fees and feeding allowances for the duration of your studies (with proof) and my own check will be more strict than the VO cos the consequence will be directly on top my head and pocket. |
ChriGo:hahaha... Next winter is 4/5 months away... No cause for alarm bro. I go rough am as usual. |
AriseOCompatrot:It's pretty much allowed but you must touch with full consent sha... Some sharp dudes even apply for white babes and TRV at the same time... And have everything set upon arrival. I'm not a fan of whites though, I prefer made in Nigeria goods and services to the core. |
ChriGo:hahaha.. This man, leave me jare...which one be your own? |
AriseOCompatrot:Ok, I get your point now.... No wahala then. Summer is not easy in this part of the world bro cos your eyes go see so tee....You go begin wonder esp if you no get wife/babe to calm your nerves down at the end of the day .... But you dare not touch cos na straight deportation...The kingdom is open to all, na just say nobody dey gree come Queen's university make I show am some love... If I may ask, which course did you study in your undergraduate degree? |

Noted sir, but I can't remember reading on any page where anyone argued with you that cgpa is the only criteria needed for admission into any school in Canada. Everyone on this thread that has applied for admission into any Canadian university /college at one point in time or the other knows too well that other factors such as references, statement of interest, and experience (in some cases) all add up towards consideration for admission... Calm down ejor, your blood dey hot...no offense meant. |
AriseOCompatrot: Canada grading system is different sir... A+ = 90 - 100 A = 85 - 89.99 A- = 80 - 84.99 B+ = 75 - 79.99 B = 70 - 74.99 C+ = 65 - 69.99 C = 60 - 64.99 Schools like university of Waterloo grades A+ = 95 - 100 in that sequence...down to the lowest grade. So based on the above, a naija cgpa of 3.5 might fall somewhere between B and B+, but not an A. N/B: The method of conversion is never 3.5/5*100 as some peeps say here.. The way it is calculated favours our naija cgpa at the end of the day. In many universities I know of, any grade below a C+, i.e. Below 65 is a failing grade for graduate students and if one gets 2 courses below 65,the person will be withdrawn from the program. (I know of 2 ladies that went back to naija cos they made 2 courses less than 65).The only bail out in this case is to start afresh thereby paying fresh tuition fees and going back to square one (that's if your school is kind enough ooo). So, if anyone wants to come to Canny unprepared (for the worst), thereby leading to maximum distraction so as to meet up by all means... He has to think about his/her grades. Truth be told.... There must be a trade-off at the end of the day between your grades and working during studies. Just try to ensure that it does not lead to a failure. For undergraduate.... I'm yet to see anyone that studied 4 years in Canada catering for himself all thru without any support from home being that undergraduate is damn too expensive and scholarships are very rare to come by.. Guys let us be guided as we take our decisions please cos if it gets out of hand, even the guys you call your friends will tell you there is nothing they can do to help (some will even stop picking your calls/start avoiding you like Ebola before you come and ask them for money). In disguise, all man is OYO for this country ooo. |
If it is in your heart, pray over it, work hard towards it, God will put it in your hands. Good news awaits all the TRV awaitees. We shall all smile at the end. |
meddybrown:Welcome and congrats on your admission...all your worries would have been taken care of had it been you went through at least part 7 of this thread... Worry not, put in your application, the average processing time is 8 weeks... And since your school is resuming a bit late, you can still make it for fall session. You might possibly be asked for a new start date if the time elapse which is still not a bad deal.. The most important thing is to chop your TRV at the end of the day by God's grace |
colljames001:Welcome... Good to know you've read a lot on CIC website, now it's the turn of NL.... Try and read parts 5,6, & 7 at least. It'll take you some time but you'll surely smile at the end. Since you intend to apply through paper route, you do not need to create any account online. Just gather your documents (from the info you acquired on CIC website and the one you'll get here), ask questions where you need clarifications, apply for your TRV, go for medicals (upon request by CIC), chop your TRV, book your flight, travel to Canada, work hard in your studies when you get here and live happily ever after. I wish you the best in your application. |
My opinion about coming to Canada with/without tuition fees based on my personal experience and that of friends around me (everyone is entitled to his /her opinion though)... *E no easy for Canada, the country is expensive. *Professional jobs are not easy to come by immediately after graduation (IT fields are fair though),even the menial jobs sef na wahala esp during winter as there are less sales. *No one is ready to give you shiishii in this country, you work for every kobo you get. *Your location matters a lot esp if you're interested in working round the clock. All things being equal, it's not advisable to go to a foreign land without being prepared in case of worst case scenario... So as not to be stranded and eventually resort to illegal activities. |
chrisviral:Thank God the storm is finally over...and congrats once more for not giving up on your dreams. |
CANADA ANTHEM O Canada! Our home and native land! True patriot love in all thy sons command. With glowing hearts we see thee rise, The True North strong and free! From far and wide, O Canada, we stand on guard for thee. God keep our land glorious and free! O Canada, we stand on guard for thee. O Canada, we stand on guard for thee. As many are the TRV HOPEFULS: including those waiting for admission, those yet to apply for TRV, those delayed recently, those waiting for medicals, those awaiting TRV and the latest TRV choppers.... The next Canada day will be celebrated by you all on Canada soil so you can enjoy the sweet Canada Anthem and the dividends... Happy Canada Day to everyone.... |
I wasn't motivated to get a 1st class during my undergraduate days, true that, cos the enabling environment wasn't there... But I was 100 times more scared of getting a poor grade at the end of it all cos I know and have always been advised from onset when I got admission into school that no matter what course you're doing in school, finish with at least a 2.1. Majority of the young peeps that didn't do so well in the undergraduate studies were as a result of peer pressure coupled with the euphoria of being independent and away from home, no thanks to our lecturers that don't help matters. In addition, the environment and facilities are not enabling. In my undergraduate days, I don't read my books till 1week to exams but I can never try that now. In addition, some students go thru a lot of hardship to see themselves thru school and the psychological effects which result from these stress reflect on their academic performance. If in the midst of all these limitations, someone ends up bagging a 1st class, I respect that person so much cos honestly..... E no easy Finally, the truth about studying here is that you have known that you are between the devil and the deep blue sea... You have no other option than to make it if not, your people go disown you.. As you now have no other reason to give if you don't do well cos everything you need is at your disposal. |
darefestus, I've been trying to reply your mail but to no avail... I keep getting a mailer daemon |
GboyegaD:More like they should struggle to get their PR as it is no more on a platter of gold for PhD candidates, in line with the reason you gave above. |
mevisbleek:Not yet sir, but soon hopefully |
checkyink:PhD graduate opportunities are not much in Canada when compared to USA and Europe. Anyone planning on doing his /her PhD in Canada should have an open mind of settling in any part of the world, but should be smart enough to get his /her papers before leaving. Some dudes that graduated with PhD end up doing the same job function with a BASc graduate and receiving the same salary. But if one gets his desired position in the industry at the end of his PhD program, he's made for life |
checkyink:I'm quite aware they do but I'm trying to make comparison between paper based research and industrial based research. The PhD students have work experience in the academic environment, specifically TA and RA, but they don't have direct Industrial experience except those that are lucky to do their internship programs in the industry at some point during their program whereas those doing industrial based projects work directly with the industries. The latter opens up more opportunities in the long run. |
Congrats my man, Chrisviral... I'm happy for you. Persistence and perseverance pays. Sorrow lasts only at night but joy comes in the morning. Mevisbleek, thank you so much sir for the wonderful advice about PhD program, it's so true... But if anyone is lucky to get an Industrial funded project up to the PhD level, he /she shouldn't look back at grabbing the opportunity... It's also like indirectly working for the industry from school, and at times, the student might be opportuned to go to the company for internships for a couple of months, and if lucky at the end of his program, might get absorbed or hired by other companies too. Personally, I do not fancy paper research projects the way I like Industrial funded projects. |
akanni:Make sense bro, raising funds and at the same time developing his soft skills cos the soft skill is indispensable in any professional setting be it engineering or otherwise |
=D
