Don't defer since all you're waiting for is for your passport to get to you.
Mail your school to inform them , print their response and show it at the POE, schools normally give internatioal students grace to resume a bit late.

It is if you defer till jan wen ure trv is ready now that you'll have issues at the poe, what you should do now is book your ticket and prepare for your trip
My personal person madam Tnuola, I'm loyal ooo... I don't think it matters if he defers till January and travels then. It'll give him more time to prepare well and do shakara for all those girls wey dey do guy for him since, let them know he has arrived. Once the school agrees to give him a letter for January start date, he should be fine.

I got my TRV in December and traveled 8 months later. I only had to get a new admission letter.

@thesoj... Nice job in here bro. I'll advise you put it this way in the affidavit of sponsorship "Apart from Mr....., I have one other dependant and I spend a total of.... (the equivalent amount he stated he will spend for your sister annually) on her education annually".

I feel it is detailed enough cos your bro will state your sis in his family info form, I believe your sis did the same too. This will automatically correlate and make sense/pass the message to the VO that they have the same sponsor who seems to be dedicated to their education.

I don't really understand the bolded - Do you mean if the total expenses for my study is around 21,000cad, I should have higher than that for my upkeep? That's about 40,000cad...Please clarify.

Undergrad. I'm 20 and I have a younger brother who is 11, how's that?

Your moniker made me think of Basketball..Dream team 12...lol
Team12:
Yes. I mean if the total expense is 21,000, you should state that you have may be like 25,000 available for your stay and the amount in your sponsor's account should be more that the 25,000. You feel me? But make sure that the amount you stated as available funds ties with the amount your dad states in his sponsorship letter o (if at all he stated it; and he should state that the 25,000 is the MINIMUM amount per year).

Since you have a little brother who is obviously over dependent on your parents, the VO does not expect your parents to spend all their money on you alone...

It's good that you have submitted other documents to proof source of future cash flow. That shows that your parents can afford to cover your expenses in subsequent years. So you are covered.
Sorry for the delay bro, the moment I saw what you stated as funds available for your stay, it struck my mind that you asked similar question when you wanted to reapply... People here gave you invaluable advice including our madam Team12.
I'm shocked that you still went ahead to fill what you had at the back of your mind (not really surprised you did that though)....Why then did you come seeking for advice about it in the 1st place??

Please bro, always take people's advise in cases like this ok (no offense meant). We are all in this same struggle together, no one will mislead you here on purpose...

Thanks for the info Kenny and Taike.

Thanking God for Journey Mercies, Presently in Mapple Land
My man, just thought about you this evening, was wondering if you've lost your way in Maple land this one wey we never hear from you since you left. Thank God for journey mercy and welcome to a new phase of life struggle.

Canada is not the destination, but an express route to your destination if you get what I mean. Make sure to start off well so that the rest of the journey will be relatively in line and on the right path to your dreams.

I'm very glad you made it to Maple land at the end of the whole struggle.

I wish you the best of luck in all your endeavours Chris. Always remember that prayer and hardwork (with determination) is all you need to get to the top of the ladder. It'll never be a smooth sail but be rest assured of success if you apply these principles.

Thanks @Onyeoma3. Yes, so true @ the person who insulted me without restrain over several paragraphs -- I was pretty surprised by it given that I had actually given the person the direct way to answer his person. I figured there was no point getting angry grin but I didn't know anyone noticed the abusive post since no one commented on it. I think one of the moderators deleted it (including my short civil response to it) less than an hour after it was posted. I still remember the moniker of the insulter though, but its ok smiley I decided I wouldn't let anyone poison my spirit or the spirit of the thread. Thank you once again for the congratulations.

PS: Where in Canada are you? I tried to look through your old posts but there are a lot! smiley You have been super helpful on this thread for so long, wow.
You're welcome bro, I dey here kamkpe ooo... No leave no transfer as na only me don go Canada for my family. I always like to work and plan well ahead of the future. At least, if any member of my family or friend wants to apply for TRV tomorrow, either for study of visiting (which is certain though) or future wifey wanna join me wink, I'll comfortably help the person without any assistance from anywhere. All I need is to look up for 2 major posts here. Chrigo's post on part 5 page 72 (one of the pages I can never forget on this thread, lolz) and Richcasey's wonderful links.

That reminds me, brace up bro @Richcasey, I read about your delay few pages back, you have done a wonderful job here and deserve the best. Give it a shot one more time, I believe you'll get it this time.

Congrats bro on your sister's TRV.

I wish to state at this point that you've earned my respect on this forum by totally ignoring a particular post from someone that blatantly insulted you. I was eager to see what your next post/reaction to his post would be. Indeed, you exhibited full maturity.
Many others would have fired back and in the end waste pages while exchanging words.
Much respect bro!!!

To all my brothers and sisters recently denied, please cheer up... It's not over yet until it's over.

@standupguy: Please don't give up yet... I know you've put in much efforts, time and resources but remember that there is light at the end of every tunnel... Since you've got years of experience, why not try uOttawa, you might get in.

I initially applied for a PGD Program at uO . The school got back to me and told me they weren't offering PGD in the academic cycle and I was given a list of Masters Programs to choose. I was confused so I called the number attached to the email (God bless that guy). He looked at my transcript and told me what program would work for me. I still took sometime to know decide if I wanted that program . We spoke back and fort for a fews days and I made up my mind. Well you know the rest of the story....
Which program did you apply for PGD?
Which program did he tell you would work for you?
How many years working experience do you have?

Something must have sold your application which I would love to know, but before then, I strongly have my reservation on the authenticity of your story.

Clarifying this will help future applicants so that one will know a key selling point that can sell his/her application even with a low cgpa...

No offense meant bro.

It feels so sad reading about the recent delays after medicals, and most painfully, after medicals passed... But it still points out to the fact that you are closer than where you were yesterday.

I really admire the the encouragement those affected gave to themselves in the face of the whole stuff cos one is always in the best position to console/motivate himself/herself when faced with certain circumstances in life.

Never give up, you'll surely arrive at your destiny if it's the will of God. It can only be delayed but can never be changed.

In other words, Monday is a public holiday in Canada (don't know if it's Canada wide or only Ontario)... I'm not really sure if CIC will work on that day. Someone could verify.

Have a nice weekend guys and a blessed new month...

You're very okay with the SOAs and ATM cards, though I wasn't asked when I got in. You can go with $1,000USD at least.

You can deposit your USD at the bank when you open your account, and you'll get a higher value in CAD cos USD is higher.

I don't know why we have allowed our optimism to cloud the realistic.

Then we don't need advising anyone here on any situation. Because there can always be a first time something happens.

A 2.91 can't get admission into a canadian university for masters!...
I'll like to be proven wrong though...I'm opeen to that.
The context I used the term optimism is quite different from yours. Hence, the argument is not necessary.

I said.... Since he has already applied, let's hope for the best... Which is a normal thing to tell anyone that is expectant of a positive result following an application (after letting him know what his chances are).

No one can advise someone with such grade outrightly from onset to apply for a masters program cos its very obvious that chances are very low for a positive response .

Hello great people in the house, please kindly enlighten me on this Canadian admission; I applied for M.Eng Chemical engineering @University of Ottawa, although part of the requirements is that 'B in Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or related courses' then they also accept minimum of second class lower for the course. I had second class lower division and I applied. So am left with the transcript stuffs. My final CGPA was 2.91. Although I graduated in 2010 and have atleast 2 years plus work experience, though work experience is not stated as requirement.

My question is do I stand a chance of getting admission base on the requirements of 'B in Bachelor degree? Thanks for your response
Though the final CGPA is quite low, let's remain optimistic since you've already applied. There's always a 1st time... Who knows, you might become a reference point and create a new avenue into Masters degree program for subsequent applicants with the same range of Final CGPA.

Onyeoma where were you with this information when I dashed Gtbank my money while trying to pay my tuition .
You are correct in all you said.
In fact I did BTA yesterday for someone who is going for summer vacation yesterday.
BTA is 5k, your company has to be invited and you have to be nominated by your company to bid and get it.
I was able to buy in less then an Hour from diamondbank at the rate of 200 at 2% transaction charges.
For now diamond remains your best bet for forex.

I need a little clarification with the form A thing, the few times I have used it, the payment with straight to the school for tuition but you said something about the money being ttransferred to your personal account, how does that work please? Can you elaborate.
@ d bolded, sorry about the waste of cash... At times, one gets too busy to respond in here especially when school is in session.

All you need is exactly the same docx you used to pay your tuition fees. Your school account details will be replaced with yours. And the reason in this case will be for UPKEEP & LIVING EXPENSES. You can transfer a tangible amount at once.

You welcome
A bit of info for the purchase of BTA. You might not get it immediately you request for it. The bank will have to bid on your behalf which might take 3-7days.In addition, some banks might give you a ^Not available^ answer bt inform them that you are not getting it right away but you want to request for a bid tender through them to CBN. You will only need your flight ticket, visa page and Int passport to present in the bank.
In the cases I'm aware of, one can actually finish it within an hour if the currency in question is available in that branch.

All that is needed is to have an account with the bank and have the naira equivalent breathing healthily in your account.

The problem is the exorbitant exchange rate these Nig banks charge for using atm outside the country.
GTB na confirm thief in that line. They will charge 13-17naira more of the normal cbn exchange rate and 420naira per withdrawal (suicide mission).

For the prepaid card from First bank, it is a good idea bt dnt try the atm withdrawal cos u will be chrge 3% of the naira equivalent of wht u will be withdrawing (killer pass). But advantage of the card, you won't be charged for using POS or online transactions for the card (so cool).

Have been monitoring the card exchange rates for sometime now.I will soon get a bank wit low and constant rates for withdrawal outside the country.
Diamond International visa card is okay in my opinion. You can also give Fidelity bank a try.

NigerianNewbie:
Good morning house.

There are 2 questions I'd like to ask.

1. What's the best way to move funds out of the country now, since there's a restriction on cash that can be moved physically (CAD 10,000 or so, not sure), since one cannot open a Canadian bank account from here to do a transfer? Also, considering the restrictions by banks on foreign currency.

2. From experience and personal opinions, what's the most reliable Nigerian bank to bank with from Canada?

Thank you all.
Hello,

I'll advise you get a PTA (Personal Travel Allowance) from Diamond bank or Fidelity bank (The 2 banks I know with the lowest exchange rate when I did mine 2 years back). The max you can get with this is $4,000USD which you can come to Canada with and convert back to CAD as soon as you open your account at any of the Canadian Financial institutions.

In addition, if you still need more massive transfer, initiate the form A transfer before leaving with your bank (1st or Diamond bank is ideal in this case too cos of their low rates) by telling your account officer about your intentions. When you get to Canada, open an account, send down your bank details back home and let one of your family members complete the transaction for you (reason for payment is usually tuition and /or upkeep). All that will be required is your bank details, admission letter, NYSC discharge cert, Degree cert (not too sure).

Lastly, since the placing of the annoying limit of $300/day on offshore withdrawal from ATM by CBN, this option has further being advisable for POS transaction (there is no charge as well as limit for POS transactions with your debit cards, master or visa).
I'll advise Diamond bank for offshore ATM transactions as well cos they have one of the lowest conversion rates and their charge is $240 per withdrawal.

Also note that visa card conversion rate is lower than mastercard irrespective of the financial institution.

N/B: While I was taking my courses during the fall session, this study about the different transactions was ongoing all thru as well. So, basically talking based on personal experience.

Did your uncle/the company write any letter of sponsorship/affidavit of support on your behalf? Did the company state the amount that will be made available to you?

Besides your sponsorship docs, your school info and program is on point.

Honestly, certain oversights can pull through during normal times but in peak periods, anyone applying should be extremely careful with everything so as not to give any room for delay.
