prettytolar: For some, it was an easy ride while for others, it took lots of strategizing and restrategizing (going back and forth the drawing board) before securing a supervisor. I belong to the latter. The first time I contacted the supervisor I'm currently working with was in 2013 and eventually got a position in his research group in 2015 (24 months after). I made sure to keep in touch all thru. As a result, he had one impression about me, "Persistence" (which is a key attribute in research). Frustration is a key component in this process, so I would say you're on track but then, don't give up on your dreams if you truly want to go into research. Is it worth the stress at then end of the day? Sure!!! 1 Like |

I'm currently doing my graduate program at Queen’s and would be glad to assist you. Sometimes, I find it challenging to respond to PMs, in which case you can drop your email address so I can get in touch with you. Cheers! 3 Likes |

tommee: Monopolising admission application process in this present day and age still baffles me. I would suggest that you send the school an email and let them know that you have contacted the agent and deemed it preferable to apply to other schools instead due to their unfavourable admission application policies. In as much as they're giving you admission and transferring knowledge to you, it's not free, you're also using your hard earned money to acquire the knowledge. Good luck in your search. 3 Likes 1 Share |

SURGEE: Congrats Surgee on your admission at uWaterloo. Please recheck the funding information again. Your total funding package is most likely going to be $27,000 and when you remove tuition, you'll have about $8,320 left as your stipend spread over 12 months instalment. The only scholarship in Canada that gives you such big bucks to the best of my knowledge is Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship which is for only PhD candidates. 2 Likes |

zeongeon: True talk bro. The only reason is this : Exponential rise of technology is and will continue to cause loss of jobs. Population is also on the increase, in addition to the leaders as you rightly stated. A job that'll take 100 people in those days requires less than 10 people now because there are automated machines to do those jobs and employers are loving it the more because it saves them operating costs. That's why I'm a strong advocate of entrepreneurship today cos that's the only solution. Find a problem people are facing, look for a solution and bridge that gap. Unfortunately, these are not taught in our schools these days. We're taught to become employees. It is well with us. 2 Likes |

zeongeon: @ bolded... For the fact that our parents went thru civil war for 3 years, don't you feel we're better than them? Also, an average youth of these days doesn't want to go thru stress. He or she just wants to build a duplex or drive 2016 model car overnight. Have you ever imagined how far they walked those days? Some of them go to school walking over 5-10 kms everyday. They go into the forests to fetch firewoods, they go to the stream to fetch water and the list goes on. Bros, our parents really suffered. I don't envy them. 3 Likes |

hustla: You're welcome bro. The PGD doesn't have any role to play in you getting your PR. You just have to get the right info and work with it so you can be on ground and know the best time to apply. About the business, when you come to Canada, we can talk... 2 Likes 1 Share |

hustla: Hello sir, good questions!! I don't know all the answers to these questions but I'll answer the ones I know to the best of my knowledge and I'm open to corrections as well. PNP is Provincial Nominee Program in which. each province nominates qualified candidates to apply for Permanent Residency. How hard to apply for PR after doing PGD? I honestly don't know; what I know for sure is that some provinces are relatively easier to get PR than others. Make your research for those provinces and relocate there once you finish your PGD. Accepted for coop and end up getting good job? Like thesoj said, IT related fields are easier to get a PR. Besides that, I don't have any idea. Does PGD /PGC really have its part in not making someone get PR later on easily or its tired to getting and sustaining a job? Can you rephrase this question please, thank you. For people who leave school to hustle for a year, does it affect them or their PGWP if it's masters they're putting in for? If you wanna leave school to hustle, it's best advisable to leave during winter so you can work all thru the summer and resume by fall. Anything beyond that can end up putting you in a tight corner (no personal experience though). How do you get to do express entry after your studies? If you have work experience already, you can apply for that. Otherwise, you'll work for sometime before being eligible to apply. How easy is it to combine schooling and working? Not an easy one but with the present condition of Naija, it's very necessary for survival. I prefer schooling and business though rather than working. I hope this helps. 3 Likes |

thesoj: The boss, I agree with you on your 1st paragraph. In that case, it's better left out. Thanks for the heads up. About PGDs and PR, my point is that a masters graduate in Ontario that doesn't get a PROFESSIONAL job after graduation can get PR thru the PNP program. This is not possible for PGD graduates. Also, the point based system for PR thru EE as someone earlier pointed out favours Masters and PhD graduates more than PGD. I have a very close friend that did 3 years College program and has been working since the last 2-3years on a professional job, his PGWP is expiring soon and his point on the pool is not up to the minimum. He was faced with only 2 options... 1)Leaving Canada 2)Going back to school . He had to choose going back to school to remain legally in Canada and will pay another 1 year tuition fees. On getting jobs after graduation, no one is spared. I know of a Masters graduate in Chemical Engineering at uWaterloo that didn't get a job for more than a year. There are many such similar cases for masters graduates. Whereas there are PGD graduates that finished and got very good jobs upon graduation. What matters most at the end of the day is what you have to offer to the company as an individual not the certificate. We're making the same points though, but coming from different angles. I agree with your points 100%, just made my points clearer so I won't be misconstrued. Much respect!! 3 Likes |

Hello guys, The rate at which the thread went fast in the last few days got me thinking if there's a rain of good news on the applications for Colleges from CIC. I was wrong though. I saw a format of a mail someone sent to the Immigration minister. Unfortunately, that mail won't be very effective (sorry to be blunt about it). This is because you left laying down your complaints professionally and focused more on complaining about the Master's and PhD receiving preferential treatment. More like being jealous about the positive outcome of their applications. A better way would have been thanking them for this opportunity of coming into Canada to develop their workforce with our skills to start with. Then proceed to sell your skills a bit, then present the challenge you're having with CIC in your home country, then thank him in advance for the anticipated positive outcome. And finally, include your name. (This is best if you've filed a CSE and no response yet because you'll include it that your application is past the normal processing time and you've filed the CSE according to their instruction but no response yet). Doing it this way is most likely to yield positive outcomes. Sending a mail and hiding your name renders the mail invalid cos it has no identify. And those using multiple email addresses, do you know that when the mail is tracked further, the IP address is from the same system and doesn't make sense(not fully sure how this works though). Honestly they don't care about your feelings but what you have to offer them, so by sending a professional mail, you're selling your skills further and laying your complaints too. Hence, killing 2 birds with 1 stone. Also, instead of complaining on every page, why not start making intensive research with that same time into universities that might accept you and proceed with application as a plan B, if at the end your application is approved, you might even decide to attend the university instead. Finally, some of our brothers that have attended Colleges in the past might have contributed to this plight the College applicants are currently facing. Some leave their studies and start hustling for money . Also, at the end of the PGWP, while the masters and PhD graduates in Ontario qualify for PNP and get PR, the College graduates that couldn't get their PR because they're not eligible for PNP and couldn't meet up for express entry end up doing all sorts of illegal things to remain in Canada. Some that have US visit visa migrate to the States and stay instead while waiting for any good news. I mix a lot with friends and hear stories. So I got my facts right. I pray that at the end of this delay, the qualified College applicants will be greatly favored so that everyone can come to Maple land and pursue their dreams. 23 Likes |

Congrats to everyone that recently got their TRVs and preparing to come to Maple land. The honest truth is that upon arrival to Canada, another chapter of your life begins. Going to school, making good grades and most importantly getting jobs after graduation. Getting a professional job after graduation is even more difficult than getting visa itself but you'll definitely get something doing to pay your bills in the interim. I believe the waiting time for visa is a way of preparing the applicants for the realities in Canada after graduation. To those that were denied recently, don't give up on your dreams. Try to step up and reapply. You'll get it in your next try. @NonelikeGod : the possibility of getting a visa for a nanny is very very low. You have to manage your program with your 2 children. That's the Western world for you. The only nanny you can have is a daycare plus your mum (that's if she's chanced to spend good time with you in Canada). 7 Likes |

For the fact that I've followed this thread from Part 3 when I started my Canada waka in 2013 till date makes it very absurd and inexcusable to buy the reason that one doesn't have time to go thru this thread to get the information he/she needs to secure his future. From the very second I came across this thread in January 2013, I took about a week and read thru all the previous pages and started responding from day 1 as a guru. I hear people ask questions here and address them to the gurus... Who is a guru if I may ask? A guru is someone that has taken his/her time to digest the invaluable info on this thread and knows his/her way about the most critical points to be noted as per visa processing. The person doesn't necessarily have to be in Canada or need to have gotten the visa. Please guys, take the time and read the previous parts. It's for your own good. If you do, the rate of visa denial will definitely reduce a bit. Regards my people. 8 Likes |

Very funny comments indeed. Just a few question for everyone castigating network marketing based on personal experience/that of others .... 1) People have made it and are still making it in this business. Have you ever gotten close to any of them to know how they made it? (And mind you everyone started from the scratch) 2) when you joined at first and failed did you ever make a review of why you didn't succeed the first time. If you didn't, then you didn't really learn any lesson. 3) Do you think that if you get a physical shop today, go straight to the market and buy products without learning about the business and the skills for success (of course every business has success skills needed), you'll succeed? Why would you think differently about Network marketing? (over 60% of people that start this business today, get the products and rush off to the streets without developing the basic skills, and then end up blaming everyone when they fail) The honest truth is : 1) That there are scammers out there taking advantage of greedy Nigerians. 2) If someone at any point tell you that there's this business you'll start today and start earning millions instantly, it's either he wants to scam you or not telling you the truth. If in this Internet age, one still falls for such story, the person needs a special examination... 3) It's very wrong and unprofessional to cajole someone into a business without telling the person everything involved in the business so the person can decide if he wants to go in for it or not. 4) Network marketing is not for everyone, to succeed, you must be persistent, patient and determined, and work towards personal development each day. 5) if your main aim for joining the profession is to get rich overnight, you'll give up sooner. Have at the back of your mind that this profession is an incubator for personal development. Reman strong in times of self doubt. 6) A professional doesn't just get you started, but helps you to succeed in any business. Personality of the person inviting you matters. Someone advertising something else while actually doing another thing is totally condemnable and spells total desperation. Advice: Times are hard, before you part with your hard earned money for any business, make your intensive search so you'll know what you're venturing into. N/B: I'm a network marketer on my 2nd missionary journey, after the 1st one crashed and I never realized 1kobo from my initial investment till today. I decided to risk this 2nd opportunity and give it a try after learning from and analyzing the lapses I had in the 1st business; and has accepted whatever the outcome will be, though it's been good so far. Life itself is a risk after all!! May God bless our hustles... 6 Likes |

slimbeauty3: Lower case next time please.... The summer resumption date should be clearly stated on your acceptance letter. Have you been called for medicals yet? You could defer to fall session if you dont meet up for spring. Cost of living is in the average, as Kingston is relatively a small city. When you get your TRV, accommodation shouldn't be much of a problem. Don't get worried about things beyond your control, it only makes you end up imagining negative outcomes. Pray about it every morning, and let the Divine power take control of the rest. 3 Likes |
