Former Niger Delta militants in Imo state have urged the federal and the state governments to honour the amnesty agreement reached in 2011 or face the bombardment of oil company facilities.
The former militants who are part of the third batch of the ex-militants in Imo state have accused the federal government and the Okorocha-led administration of refusal to document and train them on the amnesty programme as they did to other former militants, The Sun reports.

A businessman, Uba Emmanuel Abraham is entangled in a legal battle with a popular Lagos-based cleric, Pastor Lazarus Muoka of the Lord’s Chosen Church Inc., over some properties at Jakande Estate, Lagos State and Independence Layout Enugu, Enugu State.

The Majority Leader of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Friday Sani, has accused James Faleke, the running mate to the late governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Kogi State, Abubakar Audu, of being responsible for the crisis currently rocking the state legislative chamber.

The House of Representatives on Wednesday took over the Kogi State House of Assembly. The development followed the crisis in the Assembly over the impeachment of its Speaker, Mr. Momoh Jimoh-Lawal.

At a plenary on Thursday in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, Sani said the decision of the House of Representatives to take over the Assembly was illegal because the leadership of the state legislature had approached the Federal High Court, sitting in Lokoja in suit no FHC/LKJ/16/16 to stop the takeover.

Sani said it was clear that Faleke was allegedly trying to bring down the administration of Governor Yahaya Bello.

He said, “It is clear to me that Faleke cannot distance himself from what is happening in the Assembly because he is determined to bring down the government of Alhaji Yahaya Bello at all cost. The decision of the House of Representatives to take over the Kogi State Assembly shows that there is a vested interest which poses danger to our democracy.

“In 2012, when Bello Abdulahi was impeached as the Speaker of the Assembly and Jimoh Lawal was made the Speaker by seven of 25 members of the House, Faleke, the Speaker of the House of Representatives,Yakubu Dogara, and the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, were all in the House of Representatives at that time but they did not invoke Section 11 (4)of the constitution in spite of the petition submitted by Abdulahi Bello.”

In his speech on the floor of the House on Thursday, the Speaker, Umar Ahmed Imam, called on the National Assembly to note that the Kogi State Assembly was not unable to perform its functions.

According to him, the issue concerning the legality of the impeachment of the former Kogi Speaker are to be determined by the Federal High Court.

He accused the House of Representatives of disobeying an order by the Federal High Court restraining the National Assembly from interference by seeking the appearance of same before it .

The Speaker said that the action of the House of Representatives, despite the court injunction, was not only prejudicial but an abuse of court process.

Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has called on more women to join the state’s governorship race before the primaries in June, saying that women must be bold to vie for political offices as men were unwilling to yield the ground to them on a platter of gold.

Speaking at an event put together by his wife, Iara Oshiomhole, to celebrate the 2016 International Women’s Day, Oshiomhole said that women have the number to win political offices and should leverage on their number. He said: “I am happy that a woman has stepped out for the governorship primaries. It is important that we do not expect that men will get to a point where they will be tired of domination and will say, ‘you know, we have dominated you enough, you women, come and take over power.’ It is never going to happen. The only way women will take power is not to wait for men to beg them to do so.

They have to stand their ground because in Edo State, two out of every three votes are cast by women. “It, therefore, means that women have the numbers, they have the patience and what it takes to contest and win elections. It is not about money. If it were about money, I wouldn’t have been able to contest and win. The first thing is your heart, your conviction and then your brain and God has given everything to women.”

At least 3 people have died from a fresh outbreak of Lassa Fever, while 10 members of a family are currently infected with the virus in Bauchi State.

The Executive Chairman Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Ibrahim Gamawa, who said this yesterday in Bauchi, added that the 10 new cases were recorded in a single family at Jaye village in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of the state.

He said the outbreak started after a 78-year-old man died of the disease without seeking professional medical treatment. Gamawa said: “Investigations revealed that the deceased contracted the virus from Liman Katagum, where some cases of Lassa Fever were found in November last year. “The victim was put on traditional treatment from patent medicine stores for a number of days before he died. 10 persons contacted the virus and samples of their blood were taken to Irrua laboratory in Edo State, where they were confirmed positive.” “They are now on admission at the state isolation centre of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching hospital, Bauchi.”

The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress has said it holds the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, personally responsible for the killing spree in the state.

The acting National Chairman of the party, Chief Segun Oni, said this at a press briefing in Abuja, on Wednesday.
According to him, utterances credited to the governor ahead of the upcoming rerun in the state have turned the state into “a killing field.”
The APC said it was drawing the attention of security agencies and other relevant bodies to the latest string of gruesome politically-motivated killings targeting the APC members.

Oni said, “As chief security officer of the state, we hold the governor responsible for what is happening in the state. He has to sit up.”

The party noted that the violence was directly linked to the March 19, 2016 Rivers State rerun into the National Assembly and state House of Assembly.

Oni added, “Rivers State has been turned into a killing field, with APC members being murdered on a daily basis. APC members in Rivers State are fast becoming endangered species.

“On Saturday night, March 5, 2016, masked gunmen first shot dead Franklin Obi, the APC ward chairman in Omoku, headquarters of Ogab/Egbema/Ndoni council and then beheaded him. The gunmen went ahead and killed his wife and 18-year-old son, Bestman.

“The APC NWC also received reports that four APC members were recently killed in Obibi, Etche Local Government Areas in Rivers State. Gabriel Cookey was clubbed to death in Opobo, Opobo/Nkoro council. In the last two weeks, over 30 APC members had been killed in different parts of the state.”

The APC described the security situation in Rivers State as clearly an affront to the Federal Government’s power to protect life and property within its territory.

The party also appealed to security agencies to, as a matter of urgency, rise up to stem the tide of killings and other forms of violence in the state.

It insisted that contrary to claims by the state government that the killings were as a result of cult-related violence, the killings were politically-motivated.

The APC described the killings as a real emergency which was distressing, tragic and a huge source of worry to the party.

In his reaction, Governor Nyesom Wike described the allegations as “baseless, irresponsible and out of tune with the realities on the ground.”

Wike, who spoke through his Special Assistant on Media, Simeon Nwakaudu, in a telephone interview on Wednesday, said, “The violence is cult-related, it is not political. The governor is working with the relevant security agencies to bring the situation under control. It is cheap for anyone to try to make political capital out of the misery of our people.”

The Federal Road Safety Corps has commenced thorough investigation of the ghastly auto crash which claimed the lives of the Minister of State for Labour, Mr. James Ocholi (SAN), his wife, Blessing and son, Joshua.

The FRSC has specifically interrogated the driver of the SUV on his hospital bed in the National Hospital, Abuja, and security personnel attached to him. The Assistant Director, Information and Protocol, National Hospital, Abuja, Dr. Tayo Haastrup, stated this in an interview with THE PUNCH on Tuesday night.
According to him, officials of FRSC visited the hospital in connection with the investigation of accident.
