Earlier this month I was holiday with my family in Nairobi Kenya. this is our first family holiday with my 2children and wife. We were in many of the shopping malls but not Westgate. we just came back 2nd week of September. the question on my mind is what if I was still in Nairobi at time that the terrorist struck, how would I have been? |
pls tell us oo. we are looking for where to migrate to |
What certified skill do you have. New zealand could be an option. check out their immigration site. |
@dasparrow in entourage to nairobi is me, my wife and oir two children. And I paid for their flight ticket since they are above two. Think of it what do you need agent for. Accommodation, flight, airport pick up, tour guide. No way men there more than enough info on net, but be careful of scammers. When you get info from anywhere always backcheck with at least two or three other places. The fact that the info is on net doesnt make it right. I wish you well. |
@dasparrow one of the things I have learnt over time is that you can do a lot of things by yourself through the help of internet. Most information are just clicks away. I found out that agents normally factor in a lot of fees into whatever service they are rendering. So the best way to do it is to go on the net and ask as much questions as u can. You still have time now you can cover a lot to the extent that you can become authority. My trip to kenya cost me 800k including shopping money for people back in niger and my safari tour to two different places. But I am not sure I would have gotten that if I had used an agent. So start searching for info right now on nairaland and google. I wish you well. |
Well it pends on what you intend to go for. Are you going for holiday or what? if it is holiday, you will get a single entry visa i think for one month or so. however how many days do you intend to stay. |
Well some of the apartments also have account number they can advise u to pay into. But I was unable to pay thru atm card. But u can do a direct transfer from a bank. But there are charges. The more number of days the lesser your bills for hotels. But most apartments do minimum of 5days. |
@pendo89 I was prepared for the trip just that I had challenge paying for accommodation thru paypal. However I believed I got a better deal organising my travel and visit by myself. When I compared what I spent to what many of the companies were offering as per cost. I had done more than enough research before going. Thanks all the same for your advice. |
@tundedaluja you will get your tourist visa at the airport fir 50 dollars. But ensure you have your yellow card and hotel reservation. Though most accommodation are listed on wimdu or holidayletting. However payment most times is by paypal which does not include nigeria. Then make sure you have your spending money. However it is not a rigorous process though I went with my family may be that is why it was so easy. |
A leading telcom company wants to recruit immediately direct sales executives in Lagos. minimum qualification is SSCE, but the candidates must possess strong selling skills. Well behold I got there and there stand the property a 3storey building with such a lovely landscape in an environment that could have been described like wuse in abuja. Alas the mgr was not around but I got his number spoke with him and he gave a two bedroom apartment to me at 7000ksh. Service apartments with all that I need for my family. |
@pendo89. Thanks. Well the next day being sunday I went into flagged a taxi man and I said to him, pls take me round town I need a self catering apartment. He charged 2000ksh. So we moved around then he took me to an apartment that I was the previous nite. The moment we got there I told him that I have been there and there is vacant room moreover the price is out of the roof. 12, 000ksh per nite for a two bedroom apartment. Just then we saw some taxi men and he asked them about vacant apartments and they pointed to one just the road directly opposite us. |
@jennykadry, tell me what is on your mind. is it that you doubt solomonwis |
What about the immigration process. Has anybody in the how try to do it before. What are the challenges. My score is 110 and minimum requirement is 100. |
Thanks guys for your comments. I think I need to make something clear, when i said restaurant management i mean to work in established restaurant chain there, since i have so much experience in that and i have managed international brands in Nigeria before now. sorry about not clearly stating what i mean. |
thanks. well i am also looking at opportunities in each country, but competition by other immigrants make Australia a not too attractive one for me. |
Dear nairalanders. What is your view of new zealand skilled immigrants programme. I am beginning to give it a serious thought with my family of two children. I am just getting tired of staying back here in niger. But note I work and I earn close to 10m in nigeria. But I also have basic requirement in restaurant management. Your candid thoughts. Regards |
In ethiopian airline most of the air hostesses acted or worked as if over stressed. Some easily irritated. When you make a request they quickly act like they are coming to resolve it only for them to never get back to you. This happened severally. To request for extra of anything is cunningly frowned at. Well for me I wont go near their door step again. Especially with those their air hostesses looking very old and worn out mtheeeeeew |
Just arrived lagos. Now to Ethiopian airline what do I make of their service well that is gist for another time. But guys I wasnt impressed with their service. |
You dont mean it that u av been to the site. You this woman self how many things have u done in this your short life. Are u still trying to search for yourself. Or trying to develop variety of skills to prepare you for a big role in d future. Well I can only wish u well in all ur endeavors |
It is very early in the morning. Infact I av to be on nite vigil. |
@aineki bet u will luv it in lagos. You can feel the energy and zeal as u move around. Also you see large number of people going on their differend daily activities. |
Thanks bluerange. How is ur radio production training going. I made enquiries about the bricks used in the biilding and I learnt it is actually cut from a type of stone. |
@ bluerange u are very right. Fuel is very costly here but transport so cheap. @ disguy I am tempted to upload pix but I really dont want to reveal my identity. Especially my wife is a very private person. But I did upload much on my facebook. But thanks all d same |
Lessons or what I ponder over. How come the east and southern africans are so different from we west africans in the way they live, build houses and roads and food. They copied europeans or british tootoo. Or may be I am wrong sfomebody should tell me more. |
Things we wish we had enough time and cash for are; my daughter wanted to go fishing but we couldnt, there was horse race that we missed and the next meet is I think is sept 22nd. Missed the great migration and the flamingos on lake nakuru. But there always some other times. |
And my holiday is coming to an end. It has been sweet and fun. But 1week was damnn too small. Was at one of the villages today. Need to catch flight back to Nigeria. @aineki, bluerange, mosthigh and Disguy thanks all for your comments and support. Was at massai market at city centre today was able to get so much stuff to go home with. There was a motor fair but couldnt participate due to cash constraints for 4 of us. |
Yep I noticed the brick system. One of my mentor in agric business ones told me about when we were trying to device means of building durable farm house for pigs. You know pigs required cold place to sleep. I think this bricks are made from laterite which allows the house to be cool all through the day. That also explains why d house are without ac all year around. I dont know why we cant copy all these things from these people. These people leave simple and organised life. Well we will get there some day I hope. |
Mine took long oooo. I dont know what happened but I must have been up to 16yrs. |
@ bluerange. The kids are so excited you know when they feel they have stories to tell when back to school. I stayed in lavington which is upscale area. But I saw the buses at city centre. I dont want to join the buses cos I am scared for my family. But if it had been only me I would have done so.but the accommodation we got is so lovely. Even friends that we made in nairobi keep ogling at it. But at least it so much change from my PH and Lagos life |

@aineki I was fortunate to get a lovely apartment off Ole dume road at 7000ksh for 2 bedroom service apartment. |
