The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-west has insisted that the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) must first ask the Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Adeyemi Ikuforiji, and the House of Representatives Minority Leader, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila to resign before the party can be taken serious on national issues, especially those bordering on corruption. The PDP said it was ridiculous that the ACN could claim that Ikuforiji, who has been charged to court because investigation on his case had been concluded and a prima facie case established against him cannot be asked to resign while at the same clamouring for the sack of Dr. Doyin Okupe, Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan over yet-to-be substantiated report of his investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged contract scam. The PDP Zonal Publicity Secretary, Hon. Kayode Babade, said in a statement issued in Ibadan yesterday that if anyone must be sacked or asked to resign from office, they are the Lagos Speaker, who is facing trial for alleged theft of over N7 billion public fund and the ACN leader in the House of Representatives who was reprimanded by the Supreme Court of Georgia, United States of America for defrauding his client of $25,000? The PDP said; “While we will not defend anyone for committing crime, we must state that we will no longer sit back and allow these gang of hypocrites in the ACN to harass, blackmail or intimidate our members. “With the seal and vigour they have been approaching this issue of Okupe, it is obvious that there are more to it than meet the eyes and what we can conclude is that some people are afraid of the man Dr Doyin Okupe and are out to distract him. “If not, what has the former Benue State Governor, Senator George Akume, who is now the ACN Leader in the senate done since 2007 that he left office on the alleged contract scam involving Okupe? “A man of Okupe’s standing took your money in 2006, eloped with it and you are now talking about it in 2012, six years after, that to us put a lot of question marks on the claim. “Again, you claimed the man was being investigated by the EFCC and his arrest and interrogation was not reported in any newspaper prior to his appointment as SSA Public Affairs to the President? All these do not simply add up and the certified fraudsters, ex-convicts, identity and documents forgers in the ACN should know that Nigerians can no longer be fooled by their antics. “On this issue of Okupe that it has been flogging and over flogging, the ACN should simply padlock its stinking mouth. Most importantly that this same ACN is playing the ostrich on the criminal trial of Ikuforiji, conviction of Gbajabiamila for swindling his client of $25,000 and other illegalities being committed by its governors in the South-west.” |

http://www.cnn.com/2012/08/17/business/world-rich-list-singapore/index.html Asia is set to have the world's wealthiest residents, with city-state Singapore heading the rich list. Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea will do well, too, according to by a new survey that predicts which countries will be home to the wealthiest citizens by 2050. By one measure, they are already are. Singapore's per capita income is estimated by Knight Frank and Citi Private Wealth's 2012 Wealth Report to be the highest in the world at $56,532 in 2010, measured by purchasing power parity. Norway follows at $51,226, then the U.S. ($45,511), Hong Kong ($45,301) and Switzerland ($42,470). (The International Monetary Fund listed Singapore 3rd in the world in 2010-11 by per capita GDP, behind Qatar and Luxembourg, which weren't included in the Knight Frank report). By 2050, the Wealth Report estimates the world's wealthy citizens will be dominated by Asia: Singapore ($137,710), Hong Kong ($116,639), Taiwan ($114,093) and South Korea ($107,752). The only western economy projected to remain in the top five is the U.S., with an estimated per capita income of $100,802. Danny Quah of the London School of Economics predicts that by 2050, the world's economic center of gravity will be somewhere between India and China, the report notes. In 1980, the global economic center lay in the middle of the Atlantic. Some of the world's super-rich have already crossed the Pacific. Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin, a native of Brazil, moved to Singapore in 2009 has since renounced his U.S. citizenship. Jim Rogers, the co-founder of the Quantum Fund with George Soros, also moved to the former British colony in 2007. "I have moved -- I have sold my house in New York. I have moved to Asia and my girls speak Mandarin, speak perfect Mandarin ... I'm preparing them for the 21st century by knowing Asia and by speaking perfect Mandarin," Rogers told CNN recently. "It's easier to get rich in Asia than it is in America now. The wind is in your face. (The U.S.) is the largest debtor nation in the history of the world," Rogers added. "The largest creditor nations in the world are China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore. The assets are in Asia. You know who the debtors are and where they are. Look at Greece. Look at Spain. I mean, I don't like saying this. You know, I'm an American, too. But facts are facts." The report's list of fastest growing economies between 2010 and 2050 also gives more credence that the world's wealth is moving toward Asia. Of the top 10 fastest rising economies -- Nigeria, India, Iraq, Bangladesh, Vietnam, the Philippines, Mongolia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Egypt, respectively -- all but three are in the region. Old World economies will have the worst growth performance in the next 40 years, the report predicts: Spain, France, Sweden, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, the Netherlands, Italy and Germany are at the bottom of the list. But Japan and its aging population will have the weakest projected growth of all economies, Knight Frank estimates. However, just because the denizens of Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan are projected to live in the world's wealthiest regions doesn't mean all will share in the wealth. In the report Tina Fordham, Senior Global Political Analyst at Citi, warns that the dissatisfaction with income inequality shown in the Occupy Wall Street demonstrations "will gain momentum, and that there could be a long-term recalibration between governments, businesses and society as a result." On Monday, a court ordered the protesters of Occupy Central in Hong Kong, one of the last outposts of the global protests sparked by Occupy Wall Street, to give up its encampment at HSBC's headquarters in the city. |
I am happy for you, i have always been in love with that country. Are u married? is it permanent resident? if yes how did u do it? |
I am so suddenly tired of leaving in this country with all the depressing news coming from her daily. I have always been an advocate of staying back in the country, but suddenly i lost all form of attachment and solidarity due to what you all know, security ,low quality of life and many more. I also want to give my children some form of internation exposure by leaving abroad. However, I have strong positive biased for a country with country side life but well organised and developed. Zimbabwe was a country i once stayed for 3months in 2003 that i fell in love with, Harare, Victoria Falls, Bulawayo name it. Clean and well organised, however that cannot be said of that country anymore due to economic challenges and her running battle with European countries over land redistribution. Please i welcome ur lovely suggestions. Regards & Best wishes |
the interesting thing is all the bees that did that will all have to die. |

I used to hold El-rufai in high esteem until when returned back to Nigeria to start blabbing like a typical Nigerian politician who has lost out in the scheme of things. Used his ex-ray on budget until I realised that he was using that medium to sell both ACN & CPC governors in other to make both parties look good in preparation for 2015, this midget of a guy is a typical Nigerian playing on our minds to achieve their selfish goal. Please read between the lines |
Is it not ironic that a plane from abuja to lagos just crashed in lagos, but none of the TV station is covering this some are even showing church sermon of Bakare. What a country |
Just watching it bbc, mubarak of egypt jailed for life |
@ poster, Accept my sympathy at how you have been treated at your place of work. This is what our society has turned into and until we stop putting emphasis on university education as only source of survival, we will never develop in this country. See below my views, and that is why I keep wondering why people keep making same mistake of going to POLY or run PART TIME program, however our society looked down upon such qualifications (so sad), my views 1. Did you serve, that is NYSC (another means of stiffening people) 2. If you did i will advise you go for any university degree even b.ed part time, university degree is universal knowledge, it is to provide foundation for integration into any society. 3. Furthermore you could apply for a post HND degree in any university, normally u start from 300 level 4. Please do not be deceived a post graduate qualification does not make u equal to university graduate may be on paper, but nigerian employers dont think so, this is reality 5. I know you can cross to ANY Organisation if you do part time because your NYSC cert has covered up the other questions employers always ask, service Also do not go to do any professional exam, it is not equal to university education, u also cannot say how many years you will spend to qualify, what if you never did. 6. take it from me, I studied education, but i worked in a multinational, it was never an issue, but then what is wrong with b.ed, u can teach and become a professional thru certification, ask those who teach in lekki british international or saint saviours pry sch in ikoyi. Regards & God bless as you try to better your self. |

A transcontinental movie, Dr Bello, produced by Black Ivory Communications and featuring a handful of Nollywood and Hollywood stars like Isaiah Washington, Jimmy Jean Louis, Genevieve Nnaji and Vivica A. Fox is the first beneficiary of the $200m intervention fund for Nollywood promised by President Goodluck Jonathan in 2010. The Managing Director of Nexim Bank, administrators of the fund, Roberts Orya, says, “I am delighted to announce the inauguration of the production of Dr. Bello. It is also symbolically the inauguration of NEXIM’s support for film production, with Black Ivory Ltd. being the first beneficiary client to avail a facility for film production under the bank’s creative arts and entertainment facility.” According to Orya, the fear of loss of revenues and piracy, which had always impeded financial intervention in the industry, will be mitigated with the film’s initial release in theatres. He says further, “The Nigerian creative arts and entertainment industry has done creditably well in the socio-economic development of the nation. The industry has, by recent estimates, created over one million jobs – directly and indirectly and generated a minimum of $500m in revenues annually. The industry is also widely adjudged as the most prolific in the world producing over 2500 films yearly in the past three years. It is instructive to highlight, however, that the bulk of the benefits derivable from films production is from theatrical film exhibitions. While the Nigerian film industry is on the right path towards enhancing sustainable growth and development, there is still room for improvement in areas of adoption of digital standards and the establishment of quality exhibition infrastructure.” Film maker and chief executive officer of Black Ivory Ltd, Tony Abulu, opines, “Many distinguished and internationally-recognised Nigerian artistes living in the Diaspora have teamed up with great indigenous artistes to produce what is billed to be Nigeria’s foray into the international community. With what we are witnessing today, I can assure you that Nollywood is about to fly. We cannot continue to depend on our oil revenue. We have to begin to make products ourselves and we have to begin to package it for the international market, and those stories must be of an international standard.” Scheduled for release later in the year, Dr. Bello tells the story of a brilliant cancer specialist, Dr Michael Durrant, who is emotionally troubled having lost his 10-year-old daughter to cancer. With a nagging wife who blames him for their only daughter’s death, he forms an unlikely bond with a likeable but sick seven-year-old boy. As time went by, the boy’s illness deteriorates and he is convinced to seek the help of an unorthodox Nigerian doctor, Dr Bello, who is known as a miracle worker. The boy recovers after Dr Bello administers a strange potion on him but the hospital finds out and suspends Durrant. His wife also leaves him as a chain of events begin to unravel. Haitian-American actor, Jean-Louis, who plays the role of a Nigerian medical doctor in the movie, Phat Girls, says, “Here I am again in Nigeria. This is the third movie I will be doing as a Nigerian and it is the second time I will be playing a medical doctor. I think I have been adopted somehow to my new country. I am very happy to be playing the role of Dr Bello. I am looking forward to mixing with Nollywood. People in America don’t understand how such a feat as the second largest movie producers in the world is achieved in Nigeria but it tells them that things are changing. I think it is up to us now to take it to the next level and I am happy to be a part of that project.” |

Hello Nairalanders. I need your views on certain issue bothering me. My son is 3.5 years old, but he cannot count 1-20 neither can he write figure 1 he tends to confuse it with 2. The only number he can write is 2. he does not talk about what he learns in school and he is complete opposite of his sister. who often share with you in discussion what she is doing in school. he is very smart, relates well and discusses very intelligently. H does not watch cartoons like children his age, he cant remember many things he has learnt in school, but he likes doing things with his hands. What do you think. |

This Eko Ile i dont know if he or she is a girl or boy, but she is a bloody tribalist and a very big fool. As a yoruba man i am always ashamed of his or her myopic views on issues always coloured with tribal sentiments towards ACN as a party for yoruba. God will save you from your shallow thinking. |

I watched the live broadcast, and i felt nothing but disgust for this uncouth guy called gov, i never liked him , but i decided to listen to him that day, that probably i was biased, but all thru this guy said nothin but continued swipe at his predecessor and perceived enemies, he went on self praising trip like an egomaniac on the loose, at that point I felt only pity for Osun state.
