Our region southwest is the biggest beneficiary of Nigeria. In terms of ethnic category, the Ibos have leveraged on the opportunity that one Nigeria presents the most. The have also suffered the flip side the most. The irony of one Nigeria is the fact Ibos have aggressively permeated all regions the most yet they want separation. On the other hand We Yorubas are the ones who want one Nigeria the most, yet we are the most resistant to integration. It is safe to say we are the most selfish. We don't want separation because we can't govern ourselves and we have no friends and traditional allies both within and without Nigeria. |
When sarduana and balewa were killed, the northern political bloc fought back real hard using their Hausa/ fulani cum Islamic shared interest and value to mobilize their people people. When they 'won' they imposed such values on the country. When awolowo, our late sage was jailed, we couldn't fight back because we have a weak small bloc without friends. Likewise, abiola was killed, we couldn't fight back. We only protested with green leaves in our region until his wife was murdered too, we then swallowed our anger and resigned to our fate. Until the SE/SS bloc decided to nominate our son OBJ. The north can't get away with such act with SE/SS . The country will go up in flames and the military will split. If the SE/SS come back to power, they will use shared interest of so called "Judeo-Christian" values and cultural affinity mobilize their people and also project these values. We Yorubas have no friends because we have no shared values with any region. We only pretend we have no problem simply because we can't muster enough regional clout to project our interest. That is why they gave us presidency. They know they can easy take it back. The same reason Tinubu will be restricted in terms of actions. Nigeria will not last forever. Cultural and regional affinity will determine the future not some silly presidency. |
crixlight2:you are always talking about presidency as if our lives depend on it. Being supported by another bloc for a political course is a temporary alliance. But friendship based on shared interest and cultural affinity is permanent, that is why I talk of voting pattern. It always reflect cultural affinity. We have no friends in Nigeria. If Nigeria were to break up today, voting blocs will form negotiating blocs. That is when you'll know we are alone. |
Iamgrey5:they are in their fathers houses in Ibadan. You and I know this is happening steady. |
Odogwuzack:the most successful yet we are being dominated by Ibos in Lagos. Do you know how many of my Yoruba friends that have relocated to Ibadan from Lagos because they can't afford Lagos rent again, While Ibos buy up everywhere. You must be kidding me. |
Iamgrey5:it's not true. Jonathan faced book haram frontally until they accused him of "civil war revenge" |
Yoruba bloc is a small voting bloc that is why Tinubu can be a president and fulani will take over Kwara. He cannot offend the north. If someone from south east / south South and middle belt comes to power, he will be bolder to execute his policies because he comes from a larger bloc. |
Iamgrey5:which party won governorship election in Kwara 1999? |
Iamgrey5:Ogbeni, you are talking about support and politics and I am talking about regional affinity and blocs. In politics, the larger the bloc the bigger the bargaining power. If a man gets supported by another bloc other than the one he belongs to, he is bound to play to the tune of that bloc. That is why Tinubu's government will be lethargic. He will be too careful not to offend the north because southwest alone cannot defend him 'in case'. Just being president is not everything but what you achieved with it is the end. |
Iamgrey5:there is no side note. Muhammed lawal of APP won governorship election in Kwara 1999. |
Iamgrey5:the southwest did not 'produce' any president in 1999. Obasanjo won on PDP platform not on AD. That shaped his administration. Infact, our people even accused him of not being Yoruba. Friendship and interest are inseparable. Friends are allies because they share common interest. Someone can help you not because he cares for you but because he wants to spite another. In that case you must watch such person. Yoruba has no friend that is why many are saying Tinubu can't be saved if he loses in the tribunal. |
Everybody in Nigeria is familiar with the fact that Southeast and south South region is a single political bloc ie SE/SS. Also the North East and North West zones also forms a single political bloc often expressed as ' core north'. Since independence, our Yoruba southwest region has remained a stand alone, lonely region in the Nigerian political space. I say this with evidence. This is so sad despite our decades long bridge building adventures. Let us check voting pattern which the most credible way of assessing region affinity and alignment. Delta and Edo which were once part of the western region always vote in a different direction from the south west during election while even Kwara always vote with the north. Conversely, south South states once part of the old eastern region has maintained same voting pattern with Ibos through ages. Any political party popular in South east ends up popular in South South as well, including Benue State Northeast states also vote in line with Northwest showing some sort of affinity. But in our case, neighbouring states don't share our sentiment like other major tribes. This should be disturbing to every omoluabi. Is it that we are not playing our cards right? Why are we so lonely and rejected? In 1999 for instance, APP regarded as Hausa fulani party, and an offshoot of NPC cleared all northeast and Northwest (core north) PDP regarded as and Ibo party and an offshoot of NCNC cleared SE/SS and Benue The AD regarded as a Yoruba party and an offshoot of AG couldn't go beyond the single southwest region. Infact Kwara voted for APP in 1999 and has continue to vote contrary to southwest pattern. The only reason APC is winning in Kwara is because of the CPC factor. This is not so with Rivers, crossrivers, Akwa Ibom Bayelsa and even Benue. They always vote with Ibos. Even Delta/ Edo once part of western region voted for Ibo lead PDP in 1999 and still do so. The most shocking being two months old labour party foray into presidential bid. A party we Yorubas call IPOB Ibo party. They managed to clear SE/SS and Benue. Our southwest Yoruba region has no friends. Regional affinity is what will decide the future of this country and not political patronage. We need a change of attitude to endear ourselves to our neighbors, at least. |
MS247:wow... you're not just current, you are a current. |
The interesting thing about the Kanu guy is that Nigeria has fixed themselves in a crossroad having grossly mismanaged the situation. A government inability to convince it's own court on the propriety of the trial of someone they call a "terrorist" is a moral low ground. For instance, if he is released now, he has proven himself tough and worthy having additional followership. If you keep him for a longer time, frustrations resulting from extreme hardship in the country will be expressed as a widespread call for his release both from the masses and ruling class. History has proven this as a reason most freedom fighters incarcerated for a long time always win. Lastly, if he is ever allowed to die in prison, his supporters who I suspect to behind attacks on security formations in the SS/SS will find legitimate reason to unleash full-scale assault on defense formations and government infrastructure in the East. Those who will pretend "it doesn't matter" can go and ask British about the horror unleashed by the Irish republican army which culminated in the independence of the Republic of Ireland. Our government never learns. |
I think at this point we need to respect our hosts. |
Good for her. Her teacher are prolly Ibos too. If I say my people are useless they will say I am criticizing Yoruba too harshly. |
Raskimonojendor:You response examplifies my point. |
Yorubaland is an explosive waiting to go off. If you are not a Yoruba, you won't know this. Our people are known for covering up problem instead of solving it, while keeping eyes on others, notably Ibos. Pathetic! |
Occurstaem:Every tribe is complaining about us and you call it character assassination. Isn't that playing the ostrich? |
My people as usual. We Yorubas need to change. This is so embarrassing. |
My only advice is to the young girls, and that is: Stay away from men who talk too much like reno. They are very useless. |
Hmm |
I don't believe the story. That's about 8billion Naira. No one can carry such physically. |
Mynd44:I guess the Imo tribunal and appeal court's decision against uzodimma were right then? |
There is no station that is not biased. However TVC and AIT are out of the equation since they are owned by career politicians. That erodes any credibility one ever expected. Only channels and arise are owned by career journalists. However, Arise has by far been more fearless in holding politicians accountable. Even some awards channels used to win Arise has taken them from channels. No station grows by having a pro government sentiment in a democracy. If channels don't up their games, even agents of the ruling party will stop watching it. |
Complete misrepresentation. |
Parachoko:The case can go both ways as the issue of locus standi has never been decided at the supreme court. Zamfara case was thrown out over technicalities of originating summon. Also, Ebonyi case was dismissed because petition was filed out of time. Two occasions can warrant voiding of candidature. Nomination from two parties and nomination for more than one constituency. I doubt if someone can be off the hook for being nominated for more than one constituency on the ground that the petitioner is not an aspirant of the party. |
This one he is sounding this way hope they've not planned something. |
