the discussion is not just about what they do with tithes but rather the legality of Christian tithing in the first place
I don't think it matters , tithe is a form of giving , it just stipulates that type of giving as tenth percent of your income , modern day Christianity or new covenant ones , should not be stuck on 10 percent , actually in the early church, the tithe was not mentioned because they gave what they could afford or what came from their heart , some even gave lands and houses to the church , they gave so much that there was nobody poor amongst them , I believe they gave more than 10 percent ,

go and read hebrews 7.12

since the priest hood of d levites changed thr is need for the change of the law of tithing.....

you guys should learn to read the bible to ur own understanding and not to ur pastors understanding

go down and read vs 27 whr it said no need for sacrifices since Jesus offered the ultimate sacrifice.

meaning invoking the name of Jesus and living his way is d means to salvation

you are taking the bible out of context again , for example , the law in the old testaments says do not steal or commit adultery , honour your parents etc, will you say that because Jesus has paid the ultimate sacrifice for yours sins , you can now commit adultery and steal..and dishonor your parents ? ..the bible was refereeing to the actual goat and other sacrifices that the Jews were doing under the law, it is no more required because of the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross

Jesus didn't endorse tithe, rather he used it to rebuke the hypocrites (Pharisees and saducees), he said they are always good at paying tithe but ignoring the important aspects of the law (love, care, forgiveness etc). During that time, Jesus was yet to be killed, yet to resurrect, his death transformed all that for Christians. Before then, there were no Christians, so except you're claiming to be a Jew, I don't see why you should be basing your belief on an old Jewish practice which is no longer pracized by the Jews. (Prefer to my previous post above for details).

Abraham didn't pay tithe, what he did was a one off payment from the spoils of war, please go to your old testament to read that aspect. He gave 1/10th of the spoils of war to the king of Salem, not from his own property! That is not tithing! Tithing lessons can be found in leveticus 25. Numbers 18 and deut 14. Those are the books that laid down how tithing was ptacized then.

Malachi 3:10 wasn't talking to you, it was talking to the priests, read the preceeding chapter to understand Malachi 3. Read Malachi 2!

May the truth finds it's way into us.

Paying tithe and trying to gain God's favor through it "devalues" the death of Christ and the freedom it brought along. His death was a fulfillment of the law and no Christian not even Jesus paid tithe in the new testaments.

Show us one verse where any of the early Christians pay tithe, what they did was sharing all that they had amongst themselves. Read acts and also Galatians. Ephicians and collosians can help you understand the practise of the Early Christians.

Be like them and stop trying to be like a old Jew (the Pharisees and the saducees)
I disagree with you , Jesus did not say people should not pay tithe , this is very clear . Tithing did not happen under the law . as I said before ,tithing is not for everyone and its optional under the grace we have now , you should focus on your country men that have abused the sacred offering of tithing ..
As per tithing in the new testament it was not mentioned in the Bible ( except in the book of Hebrew ) , , I believe if tithing was made a law in the new testament ,it will limit people , people gave more than 10 percent in the early Christians days , lets not get stuck on the word tithe , it means 10 percent of you income , early Christian gave more than 10 percent exceeding the law sef ( some gave lands and houses to the church , that's why flourished my than the modern day Christians and no one was poor , I believe Christian of nowadays should give more than 10 percent , again it should be optional ..our of your heart not by compulsion ..

...and Jesus as died...so no need to for a sacrifice...he as made himself the sacrifice...please don't cherry pick the scriptures...read the whole Hebrew 7...read it to verse 27
verse 27 says who ( Jesus ) does not need daily sacrifices ,like those high priest to offer up sacrifices first for his own sins and the sin of the people , he did it once for us ..I love this verse , here the Bible was comparing Jesus with the old priest under the law with regards to daily killing of goats etc. and forgiveness of sins , the text says we don't need to do that anymore because Jesus did it for us , the ultimate sacrifice , the text was not talking about tithe but about sin and sacrifices ..and the status of Jesus has an High priest forever . to prove my point the tithe occurred before the law , so the bible text was not focus on the tithe . Now if you agree accordingly to the text that Jesus is your high priest ,you will not have problem in giving 10 percent of your income to his Kingdom , its totally optional and up to you

iamkneeyi Yes , I agree with you ....but tithing is not a sacrifice , it is an offering to be plain , as I said before , it is optional and not by compulsion , actually Moses added tithing to the law because of its benefits copying the acts of Abraham . If you see Jesus as your high priest then you will not have problem with honoring him with the tithe via your church or pastor . Again , tithing is not for everyone and it is not compulsory as some pastors say , we are under grace , you are right

Interesting.... Truth be told you have done a lot better than all the GO who's commented on this issue one way or another.
You backed it up with a biblical passage not sentiments which is fair enough but still arguable.
Still its one sad Topic... Even heard one pastor saying how can one expect one of canal mind to understand the things of the spirit, yet as Christians I think our main purpose after doing all possible best to make sure we live a life that will make us worthy of God's kingdom is ' to also ensure we preach d gospel so others can benefit'
How do we now expect the canal minds to understand Jesus is Lord yet we can't expect them to understand the whole idea of Tithe.
As for the other pastors the have replied with sentiments (God help the church... If it's sentiments that Christians are using to preach d Gospel)

Best reply so far I'll read more on it Stay Blessed
thank you bro , I appreciate , our problem in Nigeria is that we have elevated pastors to be super humans and angels , we think they are perfect but they are not , the way we worship pastors in Nigeria will make the devil jealous ,hence the problem

you have to understand one thing blackpanda, we Nigerians have elevated pastors to be Angels and super beings , they are normal humans beings prone to mistakes and errors , maybe even worse , and that's the major problem with our society , I have been in ministry for a long time ..these pastors are normal guys ,yes than can be anointed by God ,but they are not exempt from human errors ..God can flow through anybody but does not mean that vessel is perfect ,of course overtime they should get better ..I don't see pastors as perfect beings like Nigerians do, , I actually check the bible myself not newspaper or daddy freeze or nairaland to confirm what they are saying , off course some pastors are time wasters because they don't preach the bible ..regarding the KICC fraud investigation , it actually happened by it was a church official and he has been sacked , Nigerians, our problem , we worship human beings not God , hence we have this problems with pastors , I will love to be a Nigerian pastor , the honor and glamor is too much ,it will make the devil and God jealous :-)

Quote the scriptures here let's deliberate on them
OK .I will mention only 3 for now , not to prolong the issue
Malachi 3 :11 -benefits of the tithe
Mathew 23:23 -Jesus endorsing the tithe
Hebrew 7 , 1-21 - the new testament explanation of Jesus being a high priest in the order of Melchizedeck

honestly , I understand what Daddy freeze is saying , but he should not be against the tithe or tithing itself .. he should stress the abuse the Nigerian pastors have done with the tithe .. tithing is scriptural but it is also optional ,

my take on the tithe is that it is not for everybody , if you don't feel like paying tithe, don't , if you have the revelation or feeling to pay tithe ,pay it with no compulsion , nobody should force you to pay it , as a preacher I will advise ( optional )you to pay the tithe because we worship the God of Abraham and Jesus Christ is now our high priest in the order of melchizedeck - the priest that Abraham first paid the tithe to , have you noticed that melchizedeck did not force Abraham to pay the tithe , Abraham paid it out of reverence to God ..and he expected God to be his protector , bottom line , tithe is optional and not for everybody
The issue here is that Christians don't like reading the Bible for themselves and ask questions , the Bible is clear about tithe

Priscy01:
The Senior Pastor of Kingsway International Christian Centre in London, Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo has joined other pastors to react to OAP Daddy Freeze tithe teachings.

Pastor Matthew called out Freeze for living a ‘sinful’ lifestyle and trying to preach to people on what to do. According to him, Freeze should shut up!

Ashimolowo during his sermon said;
“Once and for all let’s settle this matter, on the power of the tithe. Some bunch of yoyo somewhere should not determine what you pay. Some guy who beats his wife, throws her out, throws his children out of the house, broke his son’s knees, should not determine what we believe. He drinks alcohol, sleeps with women and he’s trying to preach”

Freeze replied…
“Haaaaaa! Has it come to this?

See the way he is defending tithing with so much passion, I hope this same passion is extended to bringing home our brothers who are currently enslaved in Libya.

I didn’t hear ONE single bible verse, just sentiments and emotions in this defense.

Who is this ‘Yoyo’ now? Mention his name make we know am. and I hope there is proof to back these allegations up and they are not just ‘hear say’ from an false interview conducted on an embattled pot of stale bitterleaf soup.

Whoever the ‘yoyo’ is, one thing is certain, he cannot determine what the body of Christ believes, only the BIBLE can do that, so until you can come out with a superior argument to explain where Jesus our high priest, or the disciples our first pastors collected tithes, it looks like the ‘yoyo’ is the one speaking the biblical truth and no amount of subbing or name calling can override the scriptures.

If the ‘yoyo’ drinks alcohol, lets remember Jesus drank alcohol too.. he was called a drunkard by the Pharisees.. the teachers of religious law who burdened the people with unbearable religious yokes and put up similar fights when Jesus drove the money changers out of the temple!

A man can’t be seen drinking pap, Fanta or lucozade and be called a drunkard, can he? ~FRZ

LadyGoddiva:
I cannot even believe the comments I’m reading here. Like are you fuckiñg shitting me?? Even from fellow ladies too?
Things is, Nigerians are too close minded and backward thinking. A lot of things can constitute as rape. It’s not only when a random guy abducts you and forcefully has sex with you while you scream and fight back can be considered as rape. The basic thing that defines rape is CONSENT! Whether she was wearing only her panties in the man’s bed, even if she was twerking naked for him, as long as she said NO, then he had no right to try and perform any sexual activities on her.
And since when did agreeing to cuddle him automatically imply consent to have sex with him? He even went on to give her orals and strip her. Thing is, even if she may not have fought back, bottom line is, she didn’t want sex to happen. And he went on and did what he wanted anyway. That’s a more subtle kind of rape.
Nigerians really need reonrientation of their mindset when it comes to the issue of rape. I’m seeing a lot of bs comments like “why would she go to a guy’s house when it’s not her boyfriend” and “why would she wear only shorts in his bed and why would she sleep on the Same bed with him?” The thing is, irrespective of the circumstance surrounding the story, she didn’t give her consent and the man had sex with her against her wish. It wasn’t consensual sex thus, it can be classified as rape. Too bad she’s just speaking up now.
she already gave consent with are actions , actions speaks louder words , use your brain for once , just once

In many ways, religion in Black Africa is bad for people's IQs. There is something about the way a black man practices religion that is different from the way other races do. Some of the most inventive and innovative peoples in the world are highly religious folks. In fact, people who are trailblazers in science and technology in the Western, Arab and Asian worlds are religious faithfuls.

For many of these folks, their faiths don't seem to get in the way of reason and everyday logic. I know this because you can only be creative and innovative if you do not abandon reason and logic. God gave us capacity for both.

I believe the reason is simple. The brand of Judeo-Christian faith we practice in black Africa kills brain cells. It renders people dumb. That's why so-called Christians would buy the picture of a man who claimed he took the selfies in heaven. That's why they'd eat grass and drink petrol at their pastor's instructions. That's why they'd defend tithing even without solid scriptural backbone.

There's something about the mind of a Black African Man that pollutes Christianity. Still trying to figure out what it is.
I like your thinking bro , I ponder about these things , I will add my point, I personally think , it is laziness and over spirituality of our people that has made religion not work for us .... either idol worshipper , Christian and Islam, for example , a typically religious Nigerians believes God is in charge of everything , if it bad then it is God , if it good then it is God , if nothing happens then it is God , bottom line nobody can be held responsible , man do have God given responsibilities .
we don't believe in research or hard work , spiritually means applying Knowledge and affecting your environment for the good of mankind , but an average will love to pray all night so that God can come down from heaven fix everything , do their roads , fix their electricity . listen to an average Nigerians prayer , its about tearing stronghold down , God bless me and kill my enemy etc. ,based on my work or experience with God , I realized he has provided everything for man but its takes a knowledgeable and hard working man to discover these things , , I love what apostle Paul said , I labor very hard within the strength that God has given me or within me .
it is complete madness for a human being to pray to God to help him do what he is empowered by God to do ..nothing wrong with prayer ,
but its not done properly in Nigeria ..people that are praying properly do get the right result .
