President Goodluck Jonathan last night met with the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos in his bid for votes from the nation’s commercial capital. The state has the highest number of voters.

Sources said among the people he met with were Chief Olabode George, who has just completed a jail term for contract splitting at the Nigeria Port Authority (NPA) and the governorship candidate of the party in the state Dr. Ade Dosunmu. Other leaders of the party were also at the meeting.

The President came direct from Benin Republic where he went on a visit at the weekend. He was accompanied to the meeting by his Chief of Staff Mike Ogiadomhe.

Sources said the President is worried that the Lagos state PDP governorship candidate has not been receiving the full support and cooperation from the generality of the members of the party. The party is split along various groups.

The dominant group –the establishment- is led by George while 2007 governorship candidate and Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Ghana Mr. Musiliu Obanikoro is heading the Solidarity Group. The Mandate group is led by Former Works Minister Adeseye Ogunlewe. There are also smaller groups.

The President according to sources has been trying to rally the party behind Dosunmu so that the party will not go into the election deeply divided.

It was gathered that settling the crisis in Ogun State also topped the agenda as embattled Governor Gbenga Daniel was said to be at the meeting. Governor Daniel’s men who lost the PDP battle in the state in court, to President Olusegun Obasanjo faction, have moved to little known Peoples Party of Nigeria (PPN).

The President is believed to be ready to stay till Tuesday in Lagos to be able to sort out the problems in the southwest including Oyo State where the party is also bitterly divided. Many party members have vowed to work against the candidacy of Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala.
Not Surprised. .Buhari is an Illiterate. . ex soldier and coup plotter
so he will see nothing wrong with the system. .

Of course a system like that will always allow the Buharis of the world with Little or no education rise to the top
while better qualified ppl never make it

Again he wishes to govern Nigeria with little or no education. . .while GEJ the PHd Holder is there

This would never fly in a civilized country

why do we accept nincompoops and charlatans such as Buhari as presidential candidates

Its laughable i tell ya. .kind of like getting pinochet to come contest in chile
or one Brazils many ex military Generals to come contest in Brazil of today

If we want to be a responsible member of the international community
then we have to leave the likes of Buhari behind. .

WILL U SAY THAT SINCE BILL GATES WAS A SCHOOL DROP-OUT, YOU WILL NOT ACCEPT A JOB FROM MICROSOFT OR USE THEIR PRODUCTS (OFCOUSE U USED A COMPUTER TO TYPE THE RUBBISH ABOVE)?

Genius100:
It's obvious some people on this thread do not understand what constitutes a systemic problem. You can either have isolated issues or a systemic problem. When you can't even point to a single aspect of our educational system that's world class, that should be enough proof that there is a systemic problem.
Ur name is Genius but u sound far from anything genius-like.

If there is anyone who lacks the basic understanding of ordinary 'systemic problem' then it is you.
For the reason that People like GEJ bagged fake PhDs from the Nigeria schools or that our youths record a 90% failure in WAEC/NECO does not mean that the system has failed. For your information, you can only say the system failed after it has been operated to full capacity, funded to full capacity and replace all the bad eggs, half-done Lecturers who are sabottaging the system.

GEJ's attempt to change the system by scrapping the NCE, converting all polys into Unis (as Obj attempted), changing from 6-3-3-4/9-3-4 to something else and other egocentric steps were met with stiff resistance by stakeholders. Now he has distributed Universities to every village.

SOYINKA SHOULD GO AND TELL HIS ANALYSIS TO THE BIRDS.

WAS IT NOT THE SAME SOYINKA THAT FALTERED DURING HIS TIME AS 'ORDINARY' FEDERAL ROAD SAFETY?
HE BECAME SO CORRUPT THAT IBB HAD TO SAY TELL MOCK HIM. SINCE THEN, HIS CRITICISM OF IBB HAS REDUCED.

HOW CAN HE COMPARE THAT TO BUHARI? THAT HANDLED BILLIONS OF MONEY UNDER ABACHA, YET DISTRIBUTED FIRST-CLASS BUSES TO EVERY FED COLLEGE, INSTITUTIONS, DRUGS FOR HOSPITALS, ROADS TO VILLAGES ETC

I attended a Fed Govt college in Kogi and we had buses with PTF on them.

I went to a Poly FPI and there were PTF buses.

I attended hospitals with PTF drugs.

I did my IT at Benue state and most roads especially around Gboko/Mkd were PTF roads

I went to FUT and we had PTF buildings

Tell me why i shouldnt vote Buhari far above Jonathan.
I was a Ribadu supporter before I joined Nairaland.
I supported Ribadu for returning Ibori's Billion Naira bribe to CBN (Lamido confirmed it)

But from the mind-blowing support Buhari enjoys and his strictnes towards corruption, it is better to vote him

Gbawe:
My brother , some of your criticism are correct and relevant . I will not attempt to hold brief for Buhari but I think he is one of the best men to lead us as per the Nigeria we have today. I don't fall in the camp of those who believe the Nigerian President has to have everything . You don't build a city without first clearing the Jungle . The crude tractor required to clear the jungle is just as important as all the infrastructure and built entities that will make the City great. Right now the most important qualities for the Nigeria president to have are unshakeable political will , integrity and sincerity . i think Buhari has those qualities . This is why I can overlook some of his shortcomings. Today we have compromised individuals leading virtually every sector to the detriment of Nigeria . This is so because PDP President , by nature of why they are imposed on Nigeria , lack sincerity , integrity and genuine political will .

I have no doubt that Buhari is one of the few Nigerians who would be brave enough to make the likes of Gani Fawehinmi (RIP) or Femi Falana our AGF. I do not doubt that Buhari could make Col. Umar head of the EFCC while virtually every Nigerian PDP President (including GEJ) would settle for a Waziri-type individual , to aid "business as usual" for a few , instead of an incorruptible character like Umar . Under Buhari we will not see Katsina-Alu , or his type, as Cheif Justice of Nigeria. Instead we will see someone of integrity who can deliver Buhari's vision of strong Institutions built by strong characters . The long and short of it is that Buhari is not really required for his ideas . We have wonderful Nigerians who are brilliant , patriotic and desirous of doing their bit to move us forward . Many of those folks don't 'do' politics . They need a character like Buhari , with supreme executive power, to bring them in and protect them so that they can carry out progressive and far reaching reforms across Nigeria . By the time Buhari leaves we may be closer to the type of sanitised nation folks like Fashola and duke can lead with progressive ideas and vision. let us not forget that Democracy is a journey and not a destination . Buhari may be the right driver for this stretch of road Nigeria has to cover in our democratic Journey.
GBAWE, U HAVE BRAINSSSSSSSSSSSSS I BEG. AS A CONSTRUCTION PROFESSIONAL, THE BUSH-CLEARING ASPECT MADE MORE SENSE TO ME.
BUHARI=BULDOZER TO CLEAR THIS ROT, RUST AND WRECK THAT PDP HAS INFLICTED ON US.

We are not voting the VP in, and clearly when people go out to vote, they are casting their vote for Buhari, and nor Bakare per se.

and talking about intellect, it is obvious that John Oyegun can match Bakare, skill for skill, rhetoric for rhetoric and definetelly idea for idea. So in terms of ability to deliver, ANPP would seem to be the right choice, as Shekarau is clearly miles ahead of Buhari.
Stranger, I dont get ur point,
U should be living a million KM from Kano to talk like this.

SHAKARA-U tormented Xtians terribly using his Sharia Enforcement group, he denied churches of C-of-Os making them have to lie that they r building a residential building b4 they are given. Most of them who cant lie will wait forever.
When he started nursing the Presidential idea, he began to make an Igbo, a Kogi man, and so on to become Special advisers to give a good impression. Also, he will not and CANNOT win Kano as tCPC and PDP are the leading contenders for the sole of Kano.

Buhari has managed Billions of our Money in different capacity, yet he cannot be charged by EFCC or ICPC. Kano governor who won kano twice on Buhari's fame who now wants to contest against him simply because as a Principal, he is experienced orator. If it comes to oration, Shekarau cannot stand with Bakare who is experienced in that.

WHEN BUHARI SAID THAT ALL THE LAWS ARE THERE AND THEY ARE IN ORDER BUT THE PROBLEM IS THAT OF IMPLIMENTATION,
I AGREE TOTALLY.

IF YOU CHECK THE DIFFERENT SYSTEMS, 6-5-4, 6-3-3-4, 9-3-4 AND SO ON, IT IS CLEAR THAT THEY ARE FANTASTIC SYSTEMS, BUT TO IMPLIMENT THEM,

THEN ANOTHER PRESIDENT EMERGES, HE WANTS TO CHANGE THE SYSTEM, WHO WILL CONTINUE IT TO MAXIMIZE ITS BENEFIT?

IBB WOULD HAVE RETAINED THE 6-5-4 SYSTEM HE INHERITED FROM BUHARI. ALL THE SAME, BUHARI HAS SAID HE DOESNT BELIEVE THE NEW CURRENT ONE SHOULD BE CHANGED, SO LEAVE IT AS IT IS

I also like this post below:

Shekarau is very intelligent man but lacks honesty and is surrounded by crooks. He is your typical Northern politician, very eloquent in his posture but lacking in drive and desire to effect change- please visit Kano and you'd realize that Shekarau is just a waste of time. Ribadu and Buhari on the other hand might not come across as eloquent but they have the guts to take on the system, and by all standards are introverted in nature. Ribadu's problem is that he lacks a political base (especially in the North) and this he really needs to work on if he hopes to via for elective position in the future. Irrespective of the outcome of the debate, I still stand by my choice of Buhari because he is the only one who can put and end to the likes of IBB, GUSAU, ATIKU, OBASANJO, ANENIH, GEORGEAND NZERIBE!

BUHARI IS NOT AN ORATOR.
HE WOULD HAVE STATED HOW HE HAS THE SKILL OF SPORTING TALENTS
HE WOULD HAVE NARRATED HOW HE SPORTED SHEKARAU AND HOW HE RODE ON HIS POPULARITY WHEN HE WAS IN ANPP TO BECOME THE GOVERNOR TWICE!!!!!!!

BUHARI HAS THE SKILL OF DISCOVERING GREAT MEN: IDIAGBON, TUNDE BAKARE, YINKA ODUMAKIN AND A HOST OF OTHERS WHO SOME PEOPLE CLAIM ARE NOW BETTER THAN HIM

IS IT EASY TO CONVICE A PASTOR TUNDE BAKARE TO BECOME A RUNNING MATE? IF YOU THINK SO, THEN YOU DON'T KNOW BAKARE ONE-ON-ONE

THERE WAS A VERY TEMPTING QUESTION THAT BUHARI WOULD HAVE FALLEN FOR.
IT IS ABOUT PRIVATE INSTITUTIONS.
HE SIMPLY RESPONDED 'ANYONE WHO CAN AFFORD CAN PUT HIS CHILDREN IN PRIVATE SCHOOLS' HE DID NOT DENY THE FACT THAT HIS CHILDREN ATTENDED PRIVATE SCHOOLS.

AFTERALL, ALL OF OUR PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES, NO-ONE HAS HIS KIDS IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

I THINK IT WAS EBELE THAT KEPT OUR KIDS AT HOME WHILE HIS (NOT BORN BY PATIENCE) WERE IN AMERICAN INTL SCHOOL ABUJA.
INSTEAD OF OWNING UP AND APOLOGIZING FOR THE COSTLY OVERSIGHT, HE STILL DENIED

IN THAT ZONING MEETING, HE CAME TO REPRESENT GOV. ALAMS (HE BEING A DEP GOV.) YOU SEE HOW GOD TAKE CATHCH AM?
