V.O - Your research, what is your research interest? (I was almost lost because this wasn’t in the proposed transcript I prepared, and I didn’t prepare for this question since my program was course based) Me - Environmental protection, policy and environmental laws (I just said the next that came to my head at that time, but was in line with my interests)
V.O - Tell me about this your research interest. (I didn’t prepare for this question, so I just started to talk about my course instead)
Me - (He stopped typing and started to look into my eyes this time, he was trying to put me off but I looked back into eyes while being tensed) Environmental protection and policy involves the process of evaluating the social, economical and political factors that affects the environment when considering development. -The questions can come in any format and they’ll come from the answers you give too, so be over-prepared and know how to wing your way with the answers you have in your head or what you have prepared.
-Like two of the guys that got denied there, from what I heard, were asked if they’ve traveled out Nigeria, they started to say they’ve been to Ondo state, Ogun state, I’ve been to about 22 states in Nigeria. Please answer according to what you filled in your DS-160.
-Read details in your I-20 & DS-160 well. There should be no conflicting details in them to your answers.
God bless everyone who posted their transcripts, experiences and advise here, I learnt a lot. God’s Grace be with everyone. |

Buksss: My point still remains, you do not know the exact reason for refusal, you just have an opinion. And I’m not saying it should work for the person, I just gave a valid point to prove your point wrong because you sounded so sure. But bless your soul. Love and light True. I think people just try to build reasons around ones story especially when it's not approval. An approved visa does not mean the person has no flag. There are a lot of factors that do play in this thing, people shouldn't forget that. |

fairheart: This is exactly what the embassy wants: If you're not ready, do not contact them for appointment!!! This is why they are not allowing any student to pick from the appointment website, as they know most students with far resumption date will not allow those resuming early to book. I also believe this is why they shut down the 6-day slots initially planned. If you are not ready for interview, don't bother contact them as they will likely give you close date . When you are ready, be sure that they will give you date, even if it is in December. Right now, it should be clear to all of you that Lagos will be interviewing F1 applicants from today 9th of October. When you are ready, they will give you a date! What if I fill the form now and send it when I'm ready. Pls what's the email again. I sent one on that Saturday too. I only got an automated mail. No form yet |

MasterforceII: Hi,
Congratulations on your scores. Great scores and great profile indeed. What branch of electrical engineering are you looking at? Communications? Embedded systems? or are you going for software engineering?
I guess you're going for Fall 2020? If yes, there's ample time to build a very solid and competitive overall profile. Ace your TOEFL, start building your SOP, engage in extracurricular and volunteer opportunities, see if you can publish a paper (e.g your final year project if it's not already published), build your programming skills, start a project, publish on github, etc.
About the schools, you've made a great selection but like people have noted, it's better to spread the risk. I always refer to the US news ranking (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1NrfFVlPHZzXIPUOc_PZXiX-uzb3nmazn/view?usp=sharing) for my list of schools. You should apply to at least 5-6 schools (so start saving up ) - one from top 10, 2 from 10 - 30, 2 from 30-80 and 1 from >80. In selecting schools, you should also identify the schools with ongoing research that aligns with yours and identify prospective advisors that you can mail for funding opportunities (there are email templates on this thread to help with that).
Goodluck with everything. sent a mail already. Pls reply with ur whatsapp number |

frostsc: The magoosh is an online prep for the GRE that contains videos, exercises, lecture notes, etc. But you need to pay to get all these and B.Y Mafit gives you that access.
I don't know if it has changed, but modules are covered in phases. You should be able to flow whenever you join though. Though they start new modules somewhere in between your class, so, even if it looks like abracadabra at first, you'll fit in gradually. The classes are interactive, so, you can always ask questions if not clear.
As per materials, the Kaplan is a good starting point. I would suggest you start with the Kaplan and magoosh with the Manhattan online prep accompanied with the lectures first. For me, I used the lectures as the major guide then used the materials to research more on what was taught in class. That worked for me cos I was able to use those mad shortcuts they taught. Others could have different combinations based on what worked for them. I've seen someone who used Grubers and said it worked like magic. thanks much bro. God bless |
