The Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-ife, Vice Chancellor, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede, has made clarification as regards the University's plan to build an airport. The Vice Chancellor made it known during an entrepreneurship event organised by First Bank Nigeria yesterday. It will be recalled that it was widely reported some days ago that the University Vice Chancellor said that the University will soon have its own Airport which was widely reacted to on social media. However, during the event - the Vice Chancellor, who was seemingly surprised by reactions of some students towards the proposed plans and the unfounded allegations by some students that the fund purportedly allocated for their welfare will be diverted to finance for the airport project, said he was amused by the reactions of some students. "Very recently, we said that the University was going to have her own airstrip and then I understand that some students were going round the halls of residence saying that it is the money for their welfare that is going to be used to build airport in the university." "It was very amusing that we still have some of our students thinking like that. If you have a question on anything, you ask. You don't go around saying things that are not possible," he said. He further stressed that the University management have plans in place to bring this proposed airport into actualisation, noting that the University management have a 30 year old agreement with some West African countries and that they only renewed it to foster and fast-track the realization of the project. "Over 30 years ago, this University established a regional center for Aerial training and surface, part Of that program was to have aerial strip for the training and others. And 9 governments from West Africa signed an agreement to say that they are supporting that aerial strip in Obafemi Awolowo University." "So what we were doing was to renew that and we have spoken with them and they have agreed. And we also have the land to be able to do that, so we are not doing anything that is not possible." He said. http://oaukilonshele..com/2019/10/oau-vice-chancellor-clarifies-statement.html?m=1 Cc: Lalasticlala, Mynd44, Fynestboi

Penboy:Okay For those Predites, what they did was to convert their final PD score to 40 points , their UTME score to 50 points and their Olevel grades to 10 points. For example, if a predite scored 320 In UTME and his final PD score is 85 and he had 9 points out of 10 in Olevels, the score breakdown will look like this: UTME score ÷ 8 = 320 ÷=8 = 40 Final PD score ÷ 2.5 = 85 ÷ 2.5 = 34 Olevels = 9 So, the final aggregate score of this particular predite will now be: 40 + 34 + 9 = 83% |
Penboy:Cut off for Medicine is 78.5% for both UTME and predegree candidates It wasn't separated |

SEARCH Daily Post Nigeria Daily Post Nigeria EDUCATIONAge barrier: JAMB tells candidate what to doPublished on August 17, 2019 By Nsikak Nseyen The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Saturday advised candidates of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to always read and strictly adhere to instructions contained in the examination brochure before registering for the examinations. The board’s Head of Media and Publicity, Mr Fabian Benjamin, gave the advice in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Abuja. Benjamin spoke to NAN against the backdrop of concerns being raised by the public on the fate of some candidates who sat and passed the UTME with high scores, but were not sure of their plight as they did not meet the age requirement. NAN reports that one Ekele Franklin, a 15-year-old candidate, who reportedly scored the highest at the 2019 UTME, but who may not be offered admissions into University of Lagos (UNILAG), his choice of institution, because of his age, is one of such examples. According to Benjamin, the board, in its examination brochure, states the age limit for admissions into tertiary institutions in the country, but because candidates hardly read the item, fall victims to the unfortunate circumstance. “Although universities have different requirements for entries into their institutions, where some may be stern with the age limit, others may be flexible. ”Some schools will never admit one who is not up to the required age into their institutions, even after scoring high marks in the UTME and other examinations. “It is not peculiar to Nigeria alone, it happens in other countries too,” he said. Benjamin therefore urged prospective UTME candidates to be cautious and become acquainted with, as well as follow all the instructions stated in the procedure so as not to fall into problems. He also said that admissions process for the 2019/20 would commence on Wednesday, Aug. 21, as the board was working tirelessly to ensure a smooth process. Meanwhile,JAMB, on Friday disclosed the result cancellation of another candidate of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME. JAMB said the candidate, Kingsley Unekwe’s result was canceled because he altered his score. https://dailypost.ng/2019/08/17/age-barrier-jamb-tells-candidate/ Cc: Lalasticlala, Mynd44, Fynestboi

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has cancelled the unified tertiary matriculation examination (UTME) result of Kingsley Unekwe for altering his score. The board said 18- year old Unekwe was caught inflating his original UTME score from 201 to 269. He becomes the fifth person whose UTME result has been withdrawn and cancelled by the board. JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, disclosed this to reporters when Unekwe and his mother appeared before some officials of the board in Abuja on Friday. The registrar said Unekwe had edited the original score allocated to him by the board and presented it to his parents as the original result. He said the boy’s parent had called the board, alleging irregularities in their son’s result, leading to their invitation to Abuja from Awka, Anambra state. Unekwe, in the presence of his mother and officials of JAMB, confessed to have tampered with the original UTME result allocated to him by the board. He said his original score of 201 didn’t meet the requirement to read medicine which his parents wanted him to study at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He explained that to make his parents happy, and proud, he had to edit the original UTME result to meet their expectation of him becoming a doctor. Unekwe appealed to the board for clemency, feigning ignorance of his crime. But JAMB registrar said the boy would be handed over to security agencies for prosecution. Prof. Oloyede said: “Anybody who does post-result infraction, will have their results withdrawn by the board. “You are the fifth person. Two of them are already being prosecuted because we showed them clearly that they forged their results to deceive their parents who are desperate, like your parents are to study medicine. “We will prosecute you for attempting to damage the image of the board. We told your father that we have all the facts, if we find out that the facts are not correct you will be prosecuted.' https://thenationonlineng.net/jamb-cancels-utme-result-of-another-candidate/amp/

Onyiuke Akachukwu Matthew, a former student of Nigerian Tulip International Colleges (NTIC), Abuja, can conveniently be described as a whiz-kid or a genius. In the May/June 2019 West African Senior Certificate Examination (WASSCE), he obtained 9As. He wrote the November/December 2018 WASSCE as an SS11 pupil and got 4As, 3Bs and a C. Same year, he sat for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and scored 270. Throughout his secondary education, he obtained As from SS1 to SS111 (97.31 per cent.) He was on NTIC scholarship (100 per cent) from JSS1 to SS111. In the mock examination, he scored 9As and won JETS competition to represent the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). In UTME 2019, his school, teachers and parents were expecting a high score but till date, JAMB has not released his result even when other candidates’ in the same centre in Abuja were released. The board alleged invalid entry into the exam hall. Onyiuke Nimo is Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State. He insisted he went through the same screening like other candidates before being cleared to enter the exam venue. He suspected JAMB is holding onto his result because he scored above 380 in the UTME 2019. He told Daily Sun: “I do not expect to be given any score less than 370 to be modest. But to be precise, I see myself getting a score within the range of 380-390, considering the thorough and painstaking effort I put in to make sure I left no stone unturned during my preparation for the UTME. “I am someone who likes breaking records. I wrote the UTME last year and got 270. At that time, I was elated but deep down I knew I could do more. My preparation started last year (2018). I read all the topics in the textbooks and even more. “To test myself, I wrote the WASSCE for private candidates in which I got 4As, 3Bs and a C. It still wasn’t enough. I answered all the past JAMB questions I could lay my hands on and solicited the help of my teachers when I had a problem with any question. “When I was done with this, I proceeded to take simulations of the JAMB CBT both at home and in school. In each of those mentioned, I recorded nothing less than 320. Few weeks to the UTME, my school, Nigerian Tulip International Colleges, Abuja, organised extra lessons and CBT classes to prepare us.” He spoke of his reaction when he checked the result and it read invalid: “I was shocked. I wrote my exam in one of the best centres in Abuja where no case of examination malpractice was reported. My schoolmates who had written alongside me had gotten theirs. “I am not an emotional person so it did not get to me. We had a WAEC Chemistry paper to write, I had to go through the trauma of preparing for that paper bearing in mind that my UTME result has been withheld. I kept my calm though.” What is going through his mind right now? He responded: “A lot. Firstly, I am shocked at how insensitive, inhumane, inconsiderate and evil people can get. This is the height of wickedness. The UTME result was released in May and this is August. I have been waiting for that result for almost four months. “My school and parents have on several occasions written to JAMB, starting from the day after the results were released and still no single reply. I am totally disappointed in JAMB. They are a disgrace. They have failed. I read the JAMB news on the internet every blessed day and you just need to see the contradictions in their statements. “I see people praising the JAMB registrar for a job well done but to be sincere, if they look closely, they’ll see that he and his workers are totally confused. They lost this year’s UTME as much as they’d like to admit it. They are punishing innocent candidates like my self without an inkling of what we are passing through. What they have demonstrated this year is pure evil. “I didn’t meet him (JAMB Registrar) in person but delegates from my school did. They asked him to explain ‘invalid entrance into exam hall’ but his reply was that he does not deal with people in person. He asked them to open a ticket, which they did on June 14, but till this very day, we have not gotten a reply. “My parents and I paid a visit to the JAMB office in Bwari and we were told that I didn’t thumb print. How absurd! That is the most embarrassing thing you can tell someone of my person. I personally made sure that my credentials appeared on the screen after thumb printing before and after the exam and I’m ready to swear to it. “They claimed to use CCTVs but I do not know why that has not been used. They claimed to be arresting those found wanting in the area of examination malpractice. If they’re sure of their claim, why haven’t I been arrested? Another contradiction! People who cheat do not visit the headquarters in Bwari.” He explained how he achieved the WASSCE feat this way: “I read day and night for JAMB but it worked out that that knowledge was very helpful in WASSCE. My experience from WASSCE also helped as I saw similar questions in both exams. I met my teachers who were familiar with the WAEC marking scheme and they enlightened me on how to go about answering the questions. The support from my teachers was massive and it went a long in giving me confidence to get such a result. “Most importantly, I am lucky to have the background that I do. My father is a lawyer and my mother is an engineer. They have been drilling me from childhood. I got A1 in English and Civic Education and I owe that to my father whose spoken English I greatly admire and to me, second to none. “I got A1 in Mathematics and Further Mathematics and I owe that to my mother who is mesmeric in that aspect. I will like to say that my teachers are the best set of teachers a student could ask for. They were with me through this setback from JAMB. My school, Nigerian Tulip International Colleges, Boy Boarding, Abuja, has really been my home away from home. “I will like JAMB to take note that some of their questions this year were not correct. It is appalling that an exam of this calibre can produce such uncharacteristically wrong questions. They should take time to go through their questions in future so as to avoid giving people doubts about their professionalism. “For example, I was asked: Who propounded the Theory of Mutation? The answer is supposed to be Hugo De Vries. I was disappointed not to see this among the options. An examination body like this should not be known for these mistakes. I would like to also give credit to WAEC for taking time to ensure that these mistakes in JAMB were not repeated in their exams.” Why did he opt for Medicine and Surgery? His answer: “Passion. I really can’t see myself doing anything other than Medicine. I believe I can make breakthroughs in that field. Dr Ben Carson is my role model.” Onyiuke will be 18 years old in September. He attended Mount Olive School, Onitsha, Anambra State, where he maintained the first position throughout. He was awarded the best graduating pupil in both cases. At Nigerian Tulip International Colleges, Abuja, he again maintained his position at the top. He was awarded the best graduating student as well as the best science student. Principal, NTIC (Boys Section), Mr Muazu Omeji, said: “Actually, Akachukwu’s performance in the May/June 2019 WASSCE is outstanding. But as a school, we are not new to such performance as our students have always excelled in WAEC, JAMB and other external examinations. “Through similar performances, a good number of our students have won various scholarships to several universities across the world. One of our students who just graduated with a record-setting-performance at MIT was employed by Google even before writing his final papers at the university. “Coming back to Akachukwu, he is a goal-oriented student with a trait of discipline and diligence. He is also an avid reader who effectively combines reading, recreation and sport. His feat in the last WASSCE did not come to us as a surprise because he has always demonstrated ability to excel in both curricula and extra-curricular activities. “For instance, he never took second in his class, he never scored less than A in any school organised examination. He was the overall best in FCT in the 2018 Cowbell National Mathematics competition. He was the overall best in Abuja in 2019 edition of JETS competition. He was the best writer in the World Scholar’s Cup 2018. “I wish to commend the management of NTIC for providing the enabling environment for him and other students to operate. Without the conducive class and hostel environment, well-equipped library and skilful teachers, his talent would have been suppressed. “The school is bothered that his JAMB result is still yet to be released. Reasons for withholding the result are not known. We have written a couple of letters to JAMB but nothing has happened till date. More worrisome is the fact that no explanation was given as to the reason for withholding the result. I want to use this chance to further appeal to JAMB to release the result as it is already causing the innocent boy a great discomfort.” Akachukwu’s father, Mr Chidi Onyiuke, said: “Considering his academic antecedents, we were expecting not less than 370 in the 2019 UTME.” He described the action of JAMB as depressing, embarrassing and most unfortunate: “We believe it is deliberate because of his probable high score. The inference of ‘invalid/ unauthorised entry’ is that he was not the person that wrote his exam. “The implication of not releasing his UTME result will deny him admission into the university to study Medicine which is his choice of course.” He confirmed that he wrote a letter on June 16, 2019, which was received and stamped and a copy sent to the Federal Ministry of Education as well as various complaints in their ticketing portal. He and his son visited JAMB Office, Bwari, Abuja. His next line of action is to approach the National Assembly and thereafter proceed to the law court for redress. He revealed that if necessary, he might send him outside the country to study. Proprietor of Royal Academy, Ibadan, Oyo State, Chief Laide Oluwaseun, appealed to JAMB to explain why it refused to release his UTME result. He insisted the young lad could not be involved in examination malpractice: ‘’JAMB needs to consider his academic feats, appeal letters from his school, dad and check the CCTV at the centre he wrote the UTME to confirm that he actually wrote the UTME himself.’’ Source: https://www.sunnewsonline.com/withheld-utme-result-whiz-kid-tackles-jamb/amp/

Four leading commercial banks in the country have offered free scholarships to first 100 candidates that wrote this year’s unified tertiary matriculation examinations. The banks are offering the top 100 UTME candidates scholarships to study in tertiary institutions of their choice across the country. The list of the 100 candidates that came top of the UTME would be forwarded to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board this week for action, The Nation learnt. The Head of Information of JAMB, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, confirmed the offer to our reporter in Abuja on Monday, adding that some candidates would have the opportunity of their names appearing on the lists of the four banks because of their UTME scores. However, Benjamin failed to give the names of the banks, saying the commercial banks have asked that their identities be kept secret. He said the scholarship offers were a demonstration of the acceptability and confidence in the board’s products. Dr. Benjamin said: “About four banks have indicated interest to sponsor top 100 candidates. Two banks have requested for top ten and two for top hundred candidates. “We will submit the names of the candidates to the banks this week.” He explained that the conduct of the 2019 UTME had witnessed a dramatic turn of events with many startling discoveries and the capacity of the board to navigate such emerging threats. “As a result of the handling of the crises and performances, many corporate organisations have called on the board to furnish it with top scoring candidates to offer scholarships to study in tertiary institutions of their choice. “There are banks which are demanding the top 100 UTME candidates for scholarships. This is a stamp on the approval of the board’s products and efforts at repositioning the conduct of public examinations in Nigeria. “The fight against examination corruption should therefore be fought on all fronts. This is because of the board’s belief that the first manifestation of corruption is cheating in an examination,” he said. Benjamin urged corporate organisations seeking for UTME candidates to sponsor to vary their stipulated conditions for scholarships. “Otherwise the same 10 top candidates would benefit from multiple offers, thus depriving other equally qualified candidates the fruits of sponsorship,” he said. He added: “In this regard, a proviso that the board should provide top scorers who must not have benefitted from any scholarship programme will address the challenge and spread the benefits to other deserving candidates. “These organisations, including the candidates, are to, however, note that scoring high in the UTME alone is not a guarantee for admission as other factors such as the Ordinary Level results and the post-UTME will have to be incorporated for a holistic cut-off score.” https://thenationonlineng.net/four-commercial-banks-offer-varsity-scholarships-to-top-100-utme-candidates/amp/

Tunde Oyekola, Ilorin The University of Ilorin has said it has yet to trace the academic record of Biodun Fatoyinbo , the embattled Senior Pastor of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly. Our correspondent learnt that the UNILORIN could not find the cleric ’s name on its graduates ’ list . The Director of Corporate Affairs of the University of Ilorin, Mr Kunle Akogun , said they had checked their academic record unit in the registry and could not find the name of the pastor , who has been accused of sex abuse by Busola Dakolo . He said , “I have not got any feedback yet from our Academic Records Office . We have been checking , but we have not got anything on him , probably if we know the year he was in the university or the year he graduated or his course of study , that would make it easy for us to trace his record .” When our correspondent visited the university on Thursday, the record of Fatoyinbo had yet to be traced at the academic record unit of the registry . However , it is believed Fatoyinbo attended UNILORIN but did not take his final examination papers for some reasons . However , a source claimed he moved to Osun State Polytechnic, Iree , where he obtained a Higher National Diploma certificate . Unconfirmed reports claimed he attended University of Benin , Edo State after leaving University of Ilorin without completing his studies. Meanwhile , members of Ilorin branch of COZA seem not bothered by the rape allegation levelled against Fatoyinbo by Dakolo . Members , who attended Wednesday ’s service at the church opposite Mount Olives Anglican Church and Princess Luxury Suit on Pipeline Road , GRA , Ilorin, looked totally unruffled by the rape allegation . Efforts to speak with Pastor Olusegun Soetan , who is in charge of the church , was not successful as the ushers insisted that he could not be seen until next week . But one of the ushers , who identified himself as Japhet Akinola , said the church which started some years ago and holding services on temporary places including Kwara Hotels and the Stella Obasanjo Multi -purpose Hall , moved to its permanent site a few years ago . Akinola said , “The allegation made by that lady against the Senior Pastor has no substance .” https://punchng.com/weve-yet-to-trace-fatoyinbos-record-unilorin/

The tension that ravaged the campus of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-Ife, Osun State, for a couple of weeks, over threat of a bloody attack by cultists, has subsided with the arrested of leaders of Vikings Confraternity (VC) of Oduduwa University, Ipetumodu. A gang of cultists, under a pseudonymous “Cultists of Aloha clan” had threatened to invade OAU campus today (Saturday, June 1) “to rain bullets of death, sorrow and grief on innocent students”. This threat caused panic on OAU campus and many students fled while those remained on the campus were apprehensive of their safely. OAU management reacted to the threat in a statement, signed by the Public Relations Officer of the University, Mr Abiodun Olanrewaju, in which he assured that security agencies were on top of the situation. The issue had been trending online with the hashtag “#WinterInOAU”, putting parents and guardians of the students in fears. A top security operative told Daily Trust that: “There is a strong heat between OAU students and the cultists of Oduduwa university and a threat letter was issued by the cultists, promising to invade OAU premises on 1/6/2019.” However, the tension seemed to have subsided with the arrest of the leader to the dreadful cult gang on Friday by the Anti-Cultism Squad of the Osun State Police Command. A senior police officer told our correspondent that “security networking was utilised by men employed by the Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Ige and they have arrested four leaders of Vikings Confraternity”. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/winterinoau-tension-doused-as-police-nab-notorious-cultists.html

Ota: Home of Maths Champions Congratulations!! |
With seven representatives out of 12 contestants in the second group of the semi-finals, Ogun State has secured three slots in the finals of the ongoing 2018 Cowbellpedia Secondary School Mathematics Television Quiz Show, sponsored by Cowbell Milk, the leading brand of Promasidor Nigeria Limited. The outstanding performance of Gabriel Akogun of Welkin International School, as well as Juliet Ekoko and Enoch Adelekan, both of The Ambassadors College, all in Ota, placed Ogun State ahead of other states in the finals. In the junior category, Akogun, who qualified for the final along with Chiedozie Uzochukwu of Nigerian Tulip International College for Boys, Abuja, defeated Iyunade Ogundana of Greater Tomorrow Model College, Ado Ekiti. Other contestants whose Cowbellpedia journey ended at the semi-final were Ngozi Nworu of Bishop Otubelu Juniorate, Enugu; Toluwani Olatunji of The International School, University of Ibadan; and Beverly Ukoha from Top Faith International Secondary School, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. Akogun, son of a teacher, scored 97 per cent in the qualifying examination and expressed confidence about his ability to win the ultimate prize. For 14-year-old Chiedozie, who recorded a perfect score in the qualifying examination, held in February, the glory goes to his parents for firing his interest in Mathematics. “My goal is to win the competition and I will be very happy if I win because it will be a good compensation for all my efforts,” he said. In the senior category, Ekoko and Adelekan sealed the fate of their four rivals: Amara Aronu, Emmanuel Igban and Oreofe Daniel, all from The Ambassadors College, Ota, as well as Ayomiposi Adiji from Preston International School, Akure, Ondo State. Ekoko, who was the 2016 junior category winner, said her experience on the Cowbellpedia TV quiz show was exciting and interesting. “I have been a champion and I will feel very great to be crowned champion again.” On his part, Adelekan expressed relief for reaching the final and prayed that he becomes the champion to make himself, his parents and his school proud. In the spirit of the 20th anniversary of Cowbell and Mathematics in Nigeria, this year’s prize money has been doubled as winners in both categories will receive N2 million each with an all-expense paid educational excursion abroad; while the first and second runners-up will receive N1.5 million and N1 million respectively. The teachers of the top prize winners will be awarded N500,000, while those of the first and second runners-up will receive N400,000 and N300,000 respectively. Also, each of the winning schools will be presented with Mathematics textbooks, desktop computers and printers. Meanwhile, preparations have commenced for next year’s edition of the competition. According to the organisers, the 2019 Cowbellpedia registration portal is now open for secondary school students across the country.
