Chinese authorities have arrested a law professor who published essays strongly criticising President Xi Jinping over the coronavirus pandemic and accusing him of ruling "tyrannically", according to his friends and colleagues. Xu Zhangrun, a rare outspoken critic of the government in China's heavily censored academia, was taken from his home in suburban Beijing on Monday morning by more than 20 policemen, one of his friends said on condition of anonymity. According to a text message circulated among Xu's friends, police also searched his house and confiscated his computer. Xu published an essay, titled Viral Alarm - When Fury Overcomes Fear, in February blaming the culture of deception and censorship fostered by Xi for the spread of the coronavirus in China, where the outbreak was first reported in December last year before spreading globally. "The cause of all of these lies, ultimately, is the axle - a reference to Xi - and the cabal that surrounds him," Xu wrote in the essay that appeared on overseas websites, adding the chaos in the virus epicentre of Hubei province reflected systemic problems in the Chinese state. "It began with the imposition of stern bans on the reporting of accurate information about the virus, which served to embolden deception at every level of government," he said. Most recently in May, before China's delayed annual parliamentary meeting, he wrote an article accusing Xi of trying to bring the Cultural Revolution back to China. Al Jazeera's Sarah Clarke, reporting from Hong Kong, said his arrest on Monday was confirmed by several sources who feel his critical articles may have triggered his arrest. "According to his friends, his wife said she received a phone call from police saying that he had been arrested for soliciting prostitution," Clarke said. "His friends say he had been put under house arrest in Beijing a few days before - between June 30 and July 4 - so they had gone to his house to welcome his release, but as a result, they found that he had already been arrested." Police and public security authorities in Beijing did not respond immediately to requests for comment on Monday. 'Playing with power' Freedom of expression in China has always been tightly controlled by the Communist Party, but critics say the grip has become suffocating under Xi. In his February article, Xu wrote: "China is led by one man only, but this man is in the dark and rules tyrannically, with no method for governance, though he is skilled at playing with power, causing the entire country to suffer." gone to his house to welcome his release, but as a result, they found that he had already been arrested." The law professor at Tsinghua University, one of the country's top institutions, had previously spoken out against the 2018 abolition of presidential term limits in an essay circulated online. He was reportedly barred by the university from teaching and conducting research last year after publishing an article that was critical of the government. Space for independent discussion has shrunk further this year as Xi's government has sought to deflect blame for the coronavirus, which scientists believe emerged from a wild animal market in Wuhan. Chen Jieren, a former journalist with Communist mouthpiece, the People's Daily, was convicted in May of "picking quarrels and provoking trouble" and for posting "false" and "negative" information. Ren Zhiqiang, an outspoken Chinese Communist Party critic and millionaire property tycoon, was also detained after he penned an essay fiercely critical of Xi's response to the outbreak. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2020/07/china-arrests-law-professor-criticised-xi-coronavirus-200706105910775.ht |

Can we all see the harm and pain, CNN, Democrats and WHO has cause the whole world? They discourage Covic 19 patients from taking Chloroquine because Trump mentioned it, to Make Trump Clueless to the world, while many lives could have been saved... |
A new study has found that the antimalarial drug hydroxychloroquine helped COVID-19 patients better survive in the hospital. A team at Henry Ford Health System in southeast Michigan said Thursday that a study of 2,541 hospitalized patients found that those given the drug were far less likely to die, CNN reported. Dr. Marcus Zervos, the system’s division head of infectious disease, said 26 percent of those not given hydroxychloroquine died, compared to 13 percent of those who got the drug. “Overall crude mortality rates were 18.1 percent in the entire cohort, 13.5 percent in the hydroxychloroquine alone group, 20.1 percent among those receiving hydroxychloroquine plus azithromycin, 22.4 percent among the azithromycin alone group, and 26.4 percent for neither drug,” the team wrote in a report published in the International Journal of Infectious Diseases. The study came a little more than two weeks after the Food and Drug Administration yanked its emergency use authorization for hydroxychloroquine as a treatment for the coronavirus in hospitals, citing a lack of evidence it worked and that the risks outweighed any potential benefits. The agency said the drug, along with a similar version called chloroquine, which is normally prescribed to treat malaria and some forms of severe arthritis, was “unlikely to be effective in treating COVID-19,” according to a statement. “Additionally, in light of ongoing serious cardiac adverse events and other serious side effects, the known and potential benefits of CQ and HCQ no longer outweigh the known and potential risks for the authorized use,” the FDA said. https://nypost.com/2020/07/03/hydroxychloroquine-can-save-covid-19-patients-lives-study Lalasticlala people needs to see this

An Iranian Christian convert sent into internal exile by Iran’s government after it jailed him for six years for his peaceful evangelism has criticized his banishment as a form of harassment. Iranian authorities had ordered 33-year-old Ebrahim Firoozi into exile in the southeastern town of Rask in Sistan and Baluchistan province last November, leaving him about 1,600 kilometers from his home in the Tehran suburb of Robat Karim. He had been released from Rajaei-Shahr prison near Tehran in October at the conclusion of a six-year prison term for Christian evangelical activities designated as national security offenses in the Islamist-ruled nation. Before his detention and trial in 2013, Firoozi had served a half-year in prison for proselytizing in 2011. Firoozi’s 2013 sentence included two years of internal exile at the conclusion of his prison term. An Iranian court extended his period of banishment by 11 months in March as punishment for making a brief departure from Rask in December 2019 to deal with family affairs in Hamedan, where he was born a Muslim in 1987. The court accused Firoozi of violating the terms of his internal exile by taking an unauthorized leave of absence that lasted several days. He later told overseas Christian organizations that he had sought permission for the trip and proceeded after receiving no response from authorities. Firoozi made the trip to Hamedan to resolve issues related to the death of his mother in December 2018 while he was in prison, he told the groups. In a Thursday phone interview with VOA Persian, Firoozi criticized Iran’s government for sending activists such as himself into internal exile, saying it does so in order to legally harass citizens who reject its agenda once they have left prison. The former prisoner of conscience described the conditions of his internal exile in Rask, a town of about 1,000, as tough. “Rask has no hospital and only one pharmacy that lacks essential drugs. If you get sick, there is no place to go,” he said. Firoozi said he is barred from leaving Rask’s boundaries and must report to a local police station every 24 hours. He said five other former prisoners also have been exiled to the town. In his March interview with California-based Iranian Christian group Hovsepian Ministries, Firoozi said he decided to convert to Christianity after discovering online videos about the faith and studying a bible when he was living in Tehran in his early 20s. He said he knew he could get into trouble with Iran’s Islamist authorities for sharing his knowledge and love of the faith with other Iranians, but was determined to continue doing so because he believed he was doing nothing wrong. Firoozi said that during his years of detention, Iranian judges offered him freedom or reduced prison time in return for renouncing Christianity, but he refused to contemplate such a step. Speaking to London-based Iranian Christian rights group Article 18 in April, Firoozi said he had been treated well and even offered housing by Rask’s predominantly Sunni Muslim community. “As soon as it became known that I was only there because of my beliefs, these dear people accepted me as a guest on the first night,” he said. Iran prohibits its Muslim citizens from converting to another religion. Muslims make up 99.4% of Iran’s 84 million people, according to U.S. government estimates. Iran’s refusal to recognize the Christianity of converts means it only recognizes two main categories of Christians. One category is Armenian and Assyrian Christians whose presence in Iran predates Islam, and the other is citizens who can prove they or their families were Christian before Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution. Iran’s post-1979 constitution recognizes Christians as one of only three authorized religious minorities, along with Jews and Zoroastrians. It requires members of these minorities to register as such but bars converts from doing so. As a result, Iranian converts long have been denied the same rights as recognized members of Christian communities. The U.S. State Department’s latest annual report on religious freedom in Iran, published earlier this month, cited human rights activists as saying Tehran continued to target Christian converts last year with arbitrary arrests, physical abuse and other forms of harsh treatment. https://www.voanews.com/middle-east/voa-news-iran/iranian-christian-convert-criticizes-irans-banishment-harassment?

married couple brandished firearms at a group of protesters who marched through their upscale St. Louis neighborhood Sunday night on their way to the home of Mayor Lyda Krewson. The male homeowner stood barefoot on his Renaissance-style porch in the Central West End neighborhood while carrying a semi-automatic weapon around 6 p.m. local time, while his wife pointed a pistol at the gathering. The couple confronted the group of about 300 protesters after they breached a gate in the neighborhood, according to a local NBC affiliate. A video on Twitter showed the woman pointing the firearm at passing protesters while shouting protester wearing a T-shirt that read, “Hands up, don’t shoot,” then urges participants to relocate into the street in an attempt to defuse the situation. The protesters were en route to Krewson’s home to demand her resignation after she released names and addresses of residents who suggested defunding the police department, the report said. The couple’s “Midwestern palazzo” home was featured in St. Louis Magazine in August 2018 after they completed a major renovation. In the piece, they showed off their dome gilt ceiling and curved double staircase of marble leading to the second- and third-floor landings. “The glass in the windows” is from the second-floor reception hall at the 14th-century Palazzo Davanzati in Florence, Italy, “and the shutters, at least the ironwork, are probably original,” the couple told the magazine. https://nypost.com/2020/06/29/st-louis-couple-draw-firearms-on-protesters-outside-their-home |

The Israeli military says two rockets have been fired from the besieged Gaza Strip towards Israel amid rising tensions as the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu prepares to announce its first steps in a controversial plan to annex parts of the occupied West Bank. Sirens sounded in the Israeli district of Sderot late on Friday, medics said. It was the first reported rocket fire from the Gaza Strip, which is administered by Hamas, since early May There were no reports of injuries or damage in the area. It came a day after the armed wing of Hamas warned Israel's annexation plans amounted to a "declaration of war". Beginning as soon as July 1, Netanyahu's government could begin annexing areas in the occupied West Bank and the strategically important Jordan Valley in line with United States President Donald Trump's plan for the Middle East. The plan proposes to establish a demilitarised Palestinian state on a patchwork of disjointed parts of the Palestinian territories, not including occupied East Jerusalem, which Palestinians claim as the capital of a state they have long sought. The proposal has been rejected in its entirety by the Palestinians and widely condemned by the international community. Mohammad Shtayyeh, prime minister of the Ramallah-based Palestinian Authority (PA), has called the annexation plans an "existential threat" and said the Palestinians will respond with their own measures. The PA has already cancelled all agreements with Israel and the US. Meanwhile, the United Nations and the European Union say the plans threaten the possibility of reaching a peace agreement in the long-running Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Arab countries have also warned the planned annexation could affect security in the region. Hamas and Israel have fought three wars in recent years, with the latest in 2014 killing 2,251 Palestinians and 74 people on the Israel side. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2020/06/rockets-fired-gaza-strip-israel-army-200626193401296.html? |

Joe Biden has a slew of proposals for new economic programs, and the tax hikes to pay for them. But the Democratic presidential candidate doesn’t have much to say about his economic plan, even though the nation’s in a deep recession and some fresh ideas might be welcome. Yahoo Finance has asked the Biden campaign several times for an interview with a Biden economic adviser able to comment on the candidate’s plans. The campaign hasn’t responded. The New York Times wrote on June 11 that “few aspects of Joseph R. Biden’s presidential campaign are shrouded in as much secrecy as the counsel he receives on the economy.” Biden has reportedly formed an advisory committee with more than 100 economists, who are sworn to silence regarding their participation. Why so sketchy? Part of it probably involves a strategy to let voters focus on President Trump’s negative marks for handling the coronavirus pandemic and an outbreak of racial unrest, rather than Biden’s own ideas. “The Biden campaign would love to make this election a referendum on Donald Trump and not a choice between the two candidates,” Washington policy analyst Ed Mills of financial firm Raymond James says on the latest episode of the Yahoo Finance Electionomics podcast. “The more Biden talks about his policies, the more it becomes a choice between the two candidates, and that is an opening for Trump.” Biden’s whole campaign has been in stealth mode, as the coronavirus pandemic forced the cancellation of campaign rallies and the former vice president laid low at his Delaware home. Biden has been holding online events with supporters, and he has shown up for a few in-person events. While bashing Trump, however, he’s saying little about his own policies. Axios recently reported that Trump is frustrated by Biden’s low profile and is trying to develop a “smoke him out” strategy that goads Biden into speaking out more and gives Trump more opportunity to attack Biden’s remarks (or mistakes). The chances of tax hikes going through Biden’s economic plan involves a variety of tax hikes more modest than those proposed in the Democratic primaries by Senators Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren. But they’d still be a substantial change from the Trump status quo. Biden would raise the corporate tax rate from 21% to 28%, establish a new minimum tax on large companies, raise income and capital gains taxes on high earners, and repeal some corporate tax breaks. He’d use the additional tax revenue to finance new spending on clean energy, expanded health care, more college aid, infrastructure and other initiatives. There are two scenarios for Biden’s economic plan. If he wins the presidency but Republicans maintain control of the Senate, he’d have difficulty getting tax and spending hikes passed and most of his ideas would remain on the shelf. If Biden wins and Democrats take over the Senate, his tax and spending plans might be more likely to pass. But it’s not a given that Congress would raise taxes with the economy still struggling to recover from the coronavirus recession. Americans aren’t necessarily opposed to the tax hikes Biden has proposed. Trump, of course, signed a major tax cut in 2017, with a large reduction in business taxes and other tax cuts for the wealthy. Lower earners got tax cuts too, but they were relatively small and the Trump tax cuts remains unpopular. “There is a sense a lot of voters have that that tax cut did not individually help them,” Mills says. “In polling data, you actually see a pretty large swath of Americans in support of reversing that.” Biden won the Democratic primary because he seemed like a moderate compared with the likes of Sanders and Warren. But Biden has been drifting toward some leftist proposals, in an effort to appease Sanders and Warren supporters who can provide an important edge in November. Biden has adopted Warren’s idea of a minimum 15% tax on companies that report a profit to shareholders, even if they use legal tax breaks to lower their federal tax payment well below that level. And he favors the Green New Deal in principle, even if he doesn’t embrace specific provisions that would heavily regulate the energy and transportation sectors. One idea Biden hasn’t adopted is a wealth tax on multimillionaires. Trump isn’t shy about distorting and belittling the views of his political opponents. He refers to the Biden campaign as “radical left Democrats” and at some point will probably attach the socialist label to Biden’s tax plans. Biden may have to answer such charges, especially in the three presidential debates scheduled for September and October. But with Trump’s poll numbers sinking amid a pandemic, a recession and a revolt over racial disparities, he’ll let Trump campaign against himself for as long as possible. Trump trails Biden in the polls, but if you start to hear Biden saying more about his tax and spending plans, it probably means Trump is mounting a comeback. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/why-youre-not-hearing-about-bidens-economic-plan-144915816.html
